CS2 in place of CS

I cannot re authenticate my Photoshop CS. Customer service directed me to download CS2, but instruction say it if for registered users of CS2.  Is this kosher ?

Yes, it is. The CS2 downloads are for CS2 users and any product before.

  • CS, CS2 & CS3 place problem

    Hi,
I was just wondering if someone could help me with the following problem:
All l'm doing is placing a text file into a text frame - sounds easy - test code below:
    ======
    set boxContent to "HDPropane:textfile.txt"
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS2"
        activate
        set MyDocument to active document
        try
set myframe to (text frame 1 of MyDocument whose label is "testbox")
            «event K2  plac» (boxContent) with «class rtfo» without «class imot» given «class insh»:myframe
        on error emg
            display dialog emg
        end try
    end tell
    ========
This works OK and will overwrite the contents each time... the problem is when you link the text frame to another text frame.... it still works fine if you run the script without having any contents in your text frames but as soon as you have some contents you get an error 'import failed'  I get the same problem in CS, CS2 & CS3
I've even tried after the 'set myframe' adding set myframe contents to "" - adding this line was a little hit and miss  sometimes it worked sometimes l got the same import failed message.
    Regards, Gary.

    Change this:
set myframe to (text frame 1 of MyDocument whose label is "testbox")
            «event K2  plac» (boxContent) with «class rtfo» without «class imot» given «class insh»:myframe
    to something like this:
set myframe to (text frame 1 of MyDocument whose label is "testbox")
set contents of parent story of myFrame to ""
place file boxContent on myframe without showing options

  • InDesign CS2 & Leopard: Place & Export dialog box areas cutoff

I am having severe problems with InDesign CS2 and Leopard, and before anyone says "upgrade to CS3", we can't.
Almost every time I go to place a graphic or export a PDF, the system hangs for a few seconds with the wheel spinning, then InDesign just quits.
I also notice that part of the dialog boxes get cut off near the top.
    Anyone have similar problems?

Even upgrading won't eliminate all the Leopard incompatibilities. If you
upgraded to Leopard from Tiger the best advice is to go back.
Have a look around this forum and the Creative Suite forum for plenty of
    conversation.

  • Illustrator CS2 cannot place an image

I have been using illustrator for a few days now and all of a sudden today it just stopped letting me place images.  I checked photoshop and was able to place a file there. I looked around and saw some others complaing about the problem but no real solution.
I started getting the error in the middle of the day after working with it for a while.  I tried to open a file and got a error stating the file could not be found.  I copied the file from the network drive it was on to my desktop and it opened but some images on the file where blank.  if I try to repair the link illustrator freezes.
    I am using
    windows XP service pack 3
    pentium 4
    2 GB RAM
    UPDATE:
After posting this message i tried one more time and it worked.  Does anyone know why this happens?

Can you make a fresh new  illustrator file and place images?
    Reset you illustrator prefs
Alt-Crtl-Shift immediately after restarting AI  on a PC.
If this only happens to certain images, let us know the colorspace, color profile and file format.
UPDATE REPLY: You server may have been using the placed images. Servers have compression, archiving, and a lot of configurations of servers are no the best. Also look out for filenames that don't use only  alphanumeric characters, that along with folders with excessive mounts of files in the can cause havoc on servers.

  • Problems with spacing in table(cs2, PC)

    Hi everyone
I have imported a excell file into indesign cs2 (using place).
When I mark the whole table I cannot change the height of the rows.
I can choose at least or exactly however I cannot change the size, that box I gray. What am I doing wrong?

A link to the your live test page would be much more productive here.
It's much easier for us to diagnose problems when we can see your page & images in our browsers.

  • Links between Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign CS2 files

I create files in Photoshop CS2 and place them in InDesign CS2 files. Is there a way in Bridge (or elsewhere) to see which InDesign files a specific Photoshop file is linked to?
    Your help is appreciated.
    MJ

So far so good with CS2, but I have not had to time to really test it in depth.
Installed Leopard onto an external hard drive connected to my iMac. If I have problems I can always boot back into Tiger from the internal drive. Once I feel safe the CS2 works fine with Leopard I will install it on the internal drive. I also have a mirror backup of the internal drive on a different external drive than the one with Leopard installed, double backup for now.
PS: The newer versions FileMaker were reportedly not compatible. I am still using version 7.5 which seems to work fine under Leopard.
I am fixing to get ready to install Leopard on the G4 iBook. Doing a backup of that hard drive first.

  • Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode

Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode document ?
I am using windows XP with Adobe Creative suite 2.
In both Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 have the same color settings.
If I take a RGB file that was created in Photoshop CS2 and place this file in a CMYK color mode document in Illustrator CS2, does this cause a problem for the output of the document ?
If you look at the ''Document Info'' window you can now see that the RGB file is now a CMYK file. Is this a good working habit ?
    Thanks in advance. :)

    >Is it ok in the long run to placing a RGB photoshop eps file into a Illustrator CS2 CMYK color mode document ?
Please explain why you would do such a thing? (Why RGB, and why EPS.)
    >If I take a RGB file that was created in Photoshop CS2 and place this file in a CMYK color mode document in Illustrator CS2, does this cause a problem for the output of the document ?
    Yes.
You are working in CMYK mode presumably because your Illustrator document is destined for output on a PostScript device -- e.g., a printing press. That means that your RGB image will undergo a space conversion somewhere in the process, and the questions are when and how?
The issue is compounded by the fact that Illustrator ignores color profiles embedded in EPS files by Photoshop. (Just another reason not to use EPS.)
By performing the conversion yourself in Photoshop, you take control of the process and ensure predictable color.

  • Create PDF files

Does anyone know of a free software that creates PDF files that can be sent to a printer?
I normally create them within QuarkXPress 8, however, when I upload them to the printer I get a message that the PDFs were not created in the latest PDF software and that a printing a problem may result.
In the past I've experienced my type being substituted by a different font which was all jumbled up and unreadable. The photos were fine.
    Thanks for your help.

Thomas and J D, thanks for your replies. I'm not that too well versed on this PDF environment.
I'm not printing my own book, but having it printed at an On Demand Printer (Viovio).
They would prefer PDF 1.6 whatever that is. I was under the impression that PDF is PDF.
I create my books using QuarkXPress 8 with jpegs of photos created in photoshop CS2 in place.
I use just 3 fonts and only 1 weight (style) of each. No option characters or accents.
    Garamond LightCondensedItalic
    HelveticaNeue LightCond
    HelveticaNeue BoldOutline
After I complete my pages I make sure all photos are flattened and check the Usage on photos and fonts.
I convert my jpegs to CMYK so I can see the difference rather than have the printer to the conversion.
I don't use any spot colors, all colors are process colors.
I then save them as Export>Layout As PDF
I check to embed fonts and save as High Quality/High Resolution.
I then use PDF Merge to combine all the inside pages as one PDF document for ease of uploading.
    The covers are uploaded separately.
In the past i was using QuarkXPress 6. This is the first book I'm that I'm using Quark 8.
The only difference I see now is that saving the PDF in Quark 8 does not have the option of saving SUBSET FONTS.
I've read that PDF files can be created in Panther, it that true? If yes, how does it work?

  • Placing DNG files for Mockup Design in Indesign

    Hi there
I am a magazine designer where i get 400-500 photo selections from my photographer. We have finally upgraded to CS5 (yes yes took our time). I used to be able in CS2 Indesign place the DNG files for mockup of the pages, but now in CS5 it says: "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation." Is there a filter available to do this or do I need to convert all of the DNG files to jpg to use in the mockups?

The ability to place Camera Raw images directly into InDesign has been a much requested but exceptionally highly-debated feature request since Photoshop started support for Camera Raw. DNG is actually just a special, TIFF-like standardized version of a raw image format that was an attempt to provide a universal container for common features of the various camera vendors' “raw” formats plus plus a common method of storing the vast amount of the individual camera vendors' and model-dependent “secret sauce” used to decode the raw image data for creating more industry-standard TIFF, JPEG, etc. images.
In many respects, a raw image is the digital equivalent of analog photography's concept of a negative, albeit not reversed in tonalilty and/or color. A significant amount of processing is obtain a usable image from raw image data. When shooting in JPEG mode with a digital camera, this processing is done in-camera and includes significant noise reduction, sharpening, color adjustment, and brightness / contrast adjustments depending upon the cameras' capabilities. All that processing is postponed to Photoshop's Camera Raw feature (or the vendors' own host computer-resident conversion software) when you elect to get raw-only images out of your digital cameras. A very large number of professional and amateur photographers who shoot raw mode always process their own images to TIFF or JPEG before submitting for any editorial review or layout. Trying to directly place the DNG file's raw image data, even for mockups, is like trying to do mockups using the negatives in the old days. Exactly what default settings would you use to use these images and how meaningful would the visual representation of those default settings be?
I have been involved with InDesign ever since the first prereleases of InDesign 1.0 (not CS1) and I don't recall any support ever given for direct placement of DNG or any other raw image format. I don't even know of any third party InDesign plug-ins that ever did that! InDesign itself was never not distributed with the libraries and data used for such conversions.
However, there are many cameras that have a mode by which both a raw image and a camera-created JPEG file are output to the camera's memory card. Perhaps you had some directories of images that had these dual image files. (Also, there are indeed only a handful of very specialized programs that produce DNG files directly. Most professional camera manufacturers have elected to continue to output proprietary “secret sauce” image formats. To get DNG files from such file formats, you need to either run a batch process to convert to DNG or perhaps Adobe's own DNG converter that can convert entire directories of raw image files to DNG.)

  • Importing Photoshop placeholder into Indesign

How do I create a placeholder in Photoshop CS2 to be able to open in Indesign CS2 and place a jpeg image in the "path" created within the layers so the shadows overlap the imported image?

    FivePicaPica wrote:
It's much better to place rather than paste a psd file (then you can get the layer options (under extra options), but it sounds like you're using the wrong tool here. Placed psd files aren't editable.
In fact, it's pretty much essential. If you paste you get only the low resolution RGB screen preview as an embedded object. Nothing you can do with that at all. Placed files are edited inthe approprite external editor and updated when saved.
I'm afraid I also don't really understand what you want to do. Are you using Photoshop simply to draw a vector shape or clipping mask? It's the "placeholder" designation, I think, that is puzzling. In ID a placeholder would be a native frame of some sort. You can draw vectors in ID using the pen tool, or modify a frame drawn with one of the frame or shape tools. Any of those can be used to hold an image (File > Place) of your choice.
If you have a clipping path or mask in your photoshop file that you want to preserve and use as a frame, Place the file, then from the ID Object menu select Clipping Path > Options... to activate the clipping path, then from the same menu Clipping Path > Convert Clipping Path to Frame. You can then use that frame as you would any other.

  • Create placeholder - photoshop to indesign

How do I create a placeholder in Photoshop CS2 to be able to open in Indesign CS2 and place a jpeg image in the "path" created within the layers so the shadows overlap the imported image?

    morrowdesign wrote:
Thank you so much for replying. In my attempts to figure this out myself, I did paste the psd file into Indesign.
Do not paste! place (command +D) the file in InDesign.
What I could not figure out is how to select the vector file or path that I created in Photoshop so I could place an image into it. What I am creating is a templet of sorts and I need to be able to change the pictures out easily and quickly.
The layer of the vector file or path is below another layer in Photoshop that has a shadow. I want the shadow to be over the image imported. Does that make sense?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

select the path in ID. but why  use paths just place another transparent shadow over it.

  • Can I link a template to several documents?

I am producing a  series of booklets which are all the same size and have a number of common pages at the back.
Is it possible to craete a template that links to each of my documents so that whenever I cahnage the template all the documents will be automatically updated?
It's getting qyuite labourious amending each document every time there is a change to the common pages.
    I'm using CS2.

    Eugene Tyson wrote:
First, in CS2 they cannot place an ID file, so they would need to
upgrade at some expense, and second, placing a multi-page ID doc is a
lot more work than adding it as the last document to a book -- I have
yet to see a script that will do a mult-page import for an ID document,
so you are stuck doing it a page at a time, unless you know of one I've
missed. In either case, the work to update is exactly the same -- you
    just update the common file.
Firstly, I explained already they could make a PDF from InDesign CS2 and place that instead. They would still need to update the indesign file and then make a new pdf. No problem there is there?
No, that works, but it's more work to revise the file and make a new PDF than it is to just revise the file. Suppose the page count changes? The book takes care of that automatically, the placed file will need to have pages added or removed.
And you have urged the OP to upgrade not only to CS3 but to make the leap to CS4, so you contradict your first argument by saying the OP needs to upgrade at some expense.
I think you misunderstood. My first choice was the no-expense method of using the Book feature (and I'd probably do that in CS4, as well). I simply meant that IF the OP chose to upgrade, he should go all the way to CS4 instead of trying to find a CS3 copy.
Why can't it have page numbering? You make an indesign file with all the data bar the master page items, running heads, footers, page numbers etc.
You place that InDesign file/PDF into the current documents that have the same template as everything else, including page numbers and footers.
Indeed, you can do all of that, but those numbers are imported "as is" and bear no relationship to the current document numbering scheme. Suppose for one version the front part is 94 pages and for another it is 135? What numbers do you want in your placed file? If the template has duplicated master items (i.e. you use the same template to make both documents), I think the situation is even worse -- you'll get stacked elements from the placed document on top of the master elements on the document page (I did not check this for a placed .indd, but it would certainly be true for a PDF).
Just with my first experience using the Book it was a nightmare, especially for a beginner. There's options in there that can turn your numbering inside out and you don't know where to look to fix them.
I still think the book option is a little extreme.
Well, what can I say to that? I've never had a problem with the book feature, but tables drive me crazy...
Every feaure requires some practice to get right, I think. The thing with numbering in books is that it takes control of the individual documents and resets the internal numbering, IF you set the book to do automatic numbering (which is the default, for pretty good reasons) and needs to be changed BEFORE adding documents if you want to turn it off.
I agree that isn't an obvious thing, especially to a new user. I would argue, though, that in this case it wouldn't have much impact. I don't see this as a problem except in the case where a document is to be both used separately and included in a book, in which case you would always need to reset the document numbering internally to use it as a standalone.

  • SRGB profile missing - CS4

    CS4, OSX 10.6.2
I have to upload book cover images to Amazon, and they require an sRGB color profile. It's automated and won't post without this profile (past experience).
CS4 only has sRGB-IEC61966-2.1, NOT sRGB. CS2 had both.
Is there a way to locate the sRGB in CS2, and place it into CS4? And if so is that okay to do?
Otherwise, I've attached a screen capture of CS2's "simplified sRGB Profile" and am wondering if I make this and call it sRGB, if it will work.
THought I'd ask before I try, because Amazon doesn't let you know if it doesn't work, it simply doesn't post, if you check after a couple of days or more.
I'm sure they had their reasons, but I wish Adobe hadn't omitted sRGB.
    thanks

    Thanks for responding, Chris.
CS2 had both profiles as default; they came with the app, I didn't add anything.
The two apparently have different specs. i.e. If you have a doc with either profile and go EDIT>Convert to Profile, then for Destination space go up to custom RGB, each will offer a "simplified" version, with different numbers/specs. This seems to imply that the 'regular' versions would also have different numbers. This is what I have based my querie on. They must be different because CS2 had both. Plus the fact that Amazon rejected previous files without sRGB. So my original querie still stands. Perhaps sRGB isn't the original, but I still need to get it into CS4, if possible.
I couldn't find where Adobe stores these profiles on the computer. If I could I'd try what I mentioned in the original post.

  • Cannot place a two-channel spot color image in ID CS2

I have a psd file that consists of two pantone spot channels. When I try to place it in indesign, it says
"Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation."
Why is this, is there any help? I have to find a way around it, I need to make a publication using only black and a shade of pantone green.
I'm on Indesign CS2, Photoshop is CS4 and I'm on Mac OSX.

PSD. I don't have much other choice in photoshop, it offers only psd formats once the file is in multichannel mode. Maybe I'm doing something wrong in photoshop?
Basically I have a photo which is originally in 4 channel CMYK. But I need to convert it two tones only, black and pantone 363 M (or some similar green). What I did was that I deleted the C and M channel and turned Y into pantone. By doing so the image automatically switched from CMYK to Multichannel  mode and wouldn't let me choose any other. I don't know if that's the right way to do it?
