CS2 Indesign increases pdf size from CS3 Indesign pdf

Hi
I am using CS2 Indesign Version 4. When I import a CS3 Version 5.0.2 pdf and then export the file to a pdf, it increases the file from 5 mgs to 30 mgs.
I am using a G5 Mac with 10.4.11.
Does anyone know how to keep the file size down. I am told it is a CS3 thing.

No, the problem is with PDF export from InDesign 4.0.x in which there is tremendous file bloat, sometimes up to 30% or more in certain cases. This bug has been fixed in InDesign 5. Upgrade and the problem goes away!

I need to create type on a path where the characters gradually increase in size from left to right. I know that I can manually change the size of each character, but does anyone know of an easier way to do this -- possibly with a script?

This previous discussion might prove useful:

The link to the script mentioned in the above thread is broken, but this one should work:

  • Increasing canvas size from all sides

    Hello to all,

There is a way to do this; unfortunately, it's not an
    automatic feature
like in Photoshop. The approach you'll need to take is to
    update the
document dimensions (basically, the canvas size) as desired,
    then use the
Edit Multiple Frames button on the lower left of the Timeline
    panel to
manually move all assets on the main timeline. To do this,
    you'll have to
make sure all layers are unlocked. To do this quickly, click
    the
Lock/Unlock All Layers button at the top, between the eye and
    the square
buttons, until you see that all locks have been removed (one
    or two clicks
will do it). In the Modify Onion Markers button next to the
    Edit Multiple
Frames button, choose Onion All. Select Edit > Select All,
    then use the
arrow buttons to move your assets.

  • What happened to the zoom bar that lets me increase the size from, say, 100% to 125%? I just installed Firefox, and I no longer find that feature.

A week or so ago I thoughtlessly installed Explorer 10 (Chrome 10?) and immediately began having problems with my google email page and one program I use through email. I got a message that I could not download Explorer 9 to reinstall it, because there "is a newer version on the machine." And I can't find a way to uninstall a browser.
So, I downloaded Firefox and set it as my default browser.
The problem with the email page cleared up instantly; the problem with the program that goes through email got worse (and it still runs fine on a second machine in my house.)
AND---I can't find the zoom button to let me increase the appearance from, say, 100% to 125%, which I very much like to do.

  • Batch Process increases file size from 230kb - 5044kb

I'm currently using Acrobat 7 Professional.
I want to use the "Batch" process to re-convert pdf documents that were watermarked using the batch process. We're talking 1000+ documents.
The reason we need to re-convert them is because the watermarked documents are taking more than 4min/page to print, if it prints at all.
I've manually re-converted a few of the documents using "print to pdf", kept the file size at 230kb and with no printing issues.
However, since we have 1000s of these documents to do, most with multiple pages, this would be a very time consuming project.
I've "Batched" "print to pdf" and it also takes care of our printing issues, however, the file size has jumped to 5044kb. Having literally thousands of files to do - this is an issue on our file server.
I've done multiple tests with adjusting the pdf settings in the batch process... some work (and again the file size is large) - some don't allow for printing or slow it way down again.
I understand that it's a "layer" or "transparency" thing that's slowing the printing process and when I mess with it in the batch process, it takes care of the printing issues but not the file size.
Can someone help me please??? I've been working on this for a couple days now and I'm at my limits.
How can I batch process that will flatten layers but give me a manageable file size?
Your help would be GREATLY appreciated - Michelle

I don't know if it can help here, but don't I recall that wayyyy back in Photoshop 7.0 the last File - Save As you have executed sets the JPEG quality for batch File - Save As commands?  I am not sure when the "Override Action Save-As Commands" became functional, but try this:
    1.  Uncheck "Override Action Save-As Commands".
    2.  Remove the "File - Save As" step you have recorded in your action.  The action should NOT save the file.
    3.  Save any old JPEG file at the quality level you prefer, just to set the "memory" of the quality level.
    4.  Run the File - Automate - Batch, specifying input and output folders there.
    I'll bet it will work.

  • Increase screen size from 800x600 to 1024x768

Our Director program uses 800x600 resolution screen on all our files. The program was designed for 800x600. All Dir files are that size. These days a lot of laptops are using much larger screens.  Is it possible to create a projector or some function that allows the entire programs to be enlarged (maximized) or magnified to for example, 1024x768 ?
When the user chooses the enlarge the screen size  or magnify the size that function should be clicked  and all DIR files in the program should appear in 1024x768 size. If the user wishes to go back to the original size (800x600) they click the button  to use the program in the original size?
Can this be done?  Does it need to be done using a projector ? or can we embed this function in one of the opening Dxr files (the DXR file that the EXE throws you after they open the projector (exe)
    Thanks

  • Increase LiveCache Size

    Hello,
I would like to increase the size of our LiveCache and would like to know how to proceed.
Is it as simple as changing the parameter CACHE_SIZE to the new value (i would like to increase the size from 6Gb to 12Gb) and be sure that I have enough space in the MAXDB datafiles ?
Or do I have to do something else like increase/add the datafiles and then change the parameters and reload the database.
Do i have to reinitialize the LC afterwards ?
    Thanks for your answers ..
    Youssef

    Hi,
check Note 408606 - Changing the size of the data cache

  • 13 x 19 print is incorrect size from InDesign or from pdf.

For the life of me, I can't get my 13 x 19 print to be the correct size from InDesign or from pdf with Canon Pixma mark 2 9000. Paper size is correct in InDesign, Presets are correct, but without fail, it shrinks my pages by about 10-15% .... driving me crazy, I have no idea why this is happening all of a sudden after changing computers.
    Using Mac OS X
    InDesign CC
Printing straight form CC nor straight from Canon printer; same wrong size results even through everything is set correctly.
The InDesign print dialogue box does not show the CC presets.
Print preview with image no longer appears.
The only clue I can find: when I print from Acrobat, and under the print dialoge, it has the option to "choose paper source by pdf page size". when I click on this, it actually shows that the page size is smaller than what it actually is... and prints it according to this, even though, I DID NOT click on this option.
    Ideas??

    weex,
Even though you believe you have the settings correct, I suspect you don't.  It would bebetter to have more info but what is the image size on the screen?  If you have 'maintain size' selected it will decide what size to print for instance.  What paper type are you using as some paper will not allow you to print to the edges.  Even though you may not have color out that far.

  • CS2 Indesign doc - Tables have uneven thick and thin lines - made PDF - on screen some white out

Using CS2 Indesign. Doc about 100 pages with numerous tables. The lines inside the tables is uneven although I have changed the stroke size to be consistent. Once it was made into a PDF Acrobat 9 it looked much worse on screen. Uneven lines and some lines actually whited out. Really out of time trying for a solution - with an important deadline. Anyone have any experience with this?

How does it print? You can't always judge line width on screen.

  • Problems installing Illustrator and Indesign from CS3 suite

I am trying to install Illustrator and Indesign from CS3 suite.  Previously I had been running a trial version on my Mac, and now am trying to install the suite from the original install discs.  I have gone through the process of uninstalling all of the Adobe programs and then reinstalling.  When the install disc loads up and I get to the point where it lists the programs to install, in the top box Illustrator and Indesign are listed as already being installed and have no option to install them.  When I search my computer there are no Illustrator or Indesign applications.  I am able to reinstall the rest of the suite and it seems to work fine but can't seem to figure out what step I'm missing as far as reinstalling Illustrator and Indesign are concerned.

I haven't tried doing it on Vista but I would recommend looking for
Adobe clean up programs.  The problem I had was that the computer had
a trial version and then I tried to install the full version and it
wouldn't let me install illustrator because there were some random
illustrator files that conflicted with the installation process.  I
ran clean up program and it removed all adobe files.  Then I
reinstalled photoshop.  Before you start running clean up programs
make sure you back everything up.  Good luck

  • Is there a way to increase the size of the tool windows/fonts in InDesign. I am having trouble seeing the info (the font is too small)

Is there a way to increase the size of the font in the tool windows in InDesign? I am having trouble seeing the info (the font is too small)

Not possible. You'll need to go to your operating system and choose a screen resolution that displays the screen with larger pixels.
Or get a new prescription for your glasses (seriously!)

  • From CS3 InDesign-InCopy to CS5 InDesign-InCopy

    Hi all.
We are uppgrading a magazin to CS5 and when we open up CS3 documents in InDesign CS5 it´s no problem, but when we Check out InCopy assigemnts we get an error " this document needs to be converted to incopy document in order to edit it"
Any idea what this is ?
    Staale

Because the file format for InCopy files and Assignment file changed from CS3 to CS5.
When you open your CS3 docs in InDesign CS5, you should open the Assignments panel, make sure everything is checked in and up to date, and then delele it all-- use the trash can button at the bottom to delete linked content and assignments. Doing so doesn't delete any content in the layout, just the links to the external files in the old CS3 format. Delete the old INCX files (linked InCopy content) and INCA files (assignments) on the server to prevent confusion.
Personally, at this point I'd export the CS5 document to IDML, then open the IDML file back in CS5 and save it, checking pages to confirm they're all okay (they should be fine). That will prevent any CS3-era problems from munging things up in the CS5 format.
Finally, export your content back out to InCopy, with or without assignments.

  • Snow Leopard CS2 - InDesign crashes on print

    Hello!
I am hoping some one can send me in the right direction in figuring this out. I have googled this problem until my fingers are sore and have yet to see anyone with this issue. I have gone through the many many documents about not being able to export to pdf and have followed all of those directions hoping that maybe there was some correlation - still nothing.
So what's happening is we open a standard document create either text or regular box then click file print and get the crash (Problem report from InDesign below)
we can print repeatedly with only a box on the page. sometimes it will allow us to view the print preset dialogue and some times it will almost allow us to create a new print preset.
it gets REALLY buggy when you click the text tool - some times as soon as you click the tool it crashes and sometimes when you click the page. The below Problem report from InDesign was from printing with text on the page.
This is a fresh install and software update to 10.6.5, fresh install of CS2 and I have not added any fonts, this also happened before the OS upgrade. Photoshop and Illustrator seem to work and do not even stutter when printing, This is only happening in InDesign. After trying to read through the badly labeled post on here I saw one almost similar post about a printing error and there was no help offered.
I have read many times that CS2 should not run with snow leopard and have seen just as many post that CS2 does run with snow leopard. If by chance you can please offer ANY advice or support it would be greatly appreciated! We are a fairly small publishing company and this software is our only option.
    Thank you in advance!!!

I can work in CS2 Indesign on my iMac running 10.6.5 with no clichés (so far), but like this thread, InDesign crashes and shuts down when attempting to print.
However, I have no problem making any type of pdf from InDesign, and my PDF's print without any problems. So, for now, I work in InDesign, and when I need to print, I make a PDF of my document and then print it. I know it's a pain, but for now, it's all I can do to keep using CS2.
I realize the solution is updating to a CS package that will run flawlessly with 10.6. (anyone have a few hundred dollars to give to this worthy cause?).
But if anyone out there figures out a way to print from Indesign CS 2 on 10.6, please let me know. My actual needs are minimal, so CS2 does all I really need it to do for now . . . if you don't count that I can't print from it. Ha ha . . . not funny.
This is an update on my progress to resolve my problem (it's now two hours later than the text in this post above). I had a copy of InDesign CS 3 that I never installed. I decided to give it a try so I installed it. It installed with no problems and I updated it using the InDesigns update feature.
I can now print with no problems using the print dialog box from within InDesign. However, my specific print features from my brother printer dialog box won't function. All said, I rarely use those features so it seems I now have a copy of InDesign (CS 3) on OS 10.6.5 printing adequately, provided I only use the print dialog box from within InDesign CS3, which suites me fine.
    Good luck everyone.

  • Reduce File Size and Optimise PDF both increase file size

    Hi All
I have exported a pdf (our college mag) at smallest file size from Indesign CS4 for online use. The problem is the resultant file size is a little under 19Mb. Using both or either Reduce File Size or Optimise functions simply result in an increase to 22Mb. The document is packed with images however I would have thought one or both of these processes would have helped reduce the file size to a more manageable download file size.
A pdf is also produced to go to print so simply compressing all images prior to imcuding them in Indesign is not a preferable option - this would mean creating two separate Indesign documents, something which I would rather avoid if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as always.
The file reside here if anyone cares to take a look http://www.ayrcoll.ac.uk/index.php?name=UpDownload&req=viewdownload&cid=11&orderby=dateD  It's the latest release (September 09)
    Thanks
    Colin

You might want to do an audit of the PDF (button in PDF Optimizer) and try to figure out what the various parts are. It shows 58% is content streams (sorry, but I am not sure what that is), 26% is overhead, and only 12.7% is graphics. Since you are not storing bookmarks and such, you might want to try going back to ID and printing to the Adobe PDF printer for a comparison. It may be one technique is more efficient than the other.
When I used the optimizer, the file did get larger. When I used Reduce File Size, it got slightly smaller. The key may be in figuring out what the various parts are from the audit. You might try copying one page of ID to a new document and play with various versions - different fonts (all were embedded and that is probably best), variations on graphics, etc. That is all I can suggest since I would simply be playing with different ways to produce the document and looking at what is causing the bloat. When the Images are only 12.7% and the fonts less than 1%, there is something going on to produce the size, and those 2 are typically the killers. I would mention tags that tend to bloat, but you do not have any (normally used for assessibility).
You might want to try some of the preflight checks to find issues. I did the transparency check and got 170 instances in 22 pages. Flattening the page may help. There were some pages that seemed to be very bad. However, I did not get a big file size reduction. I did not get a lot of improvement by printing to a new PDF either. Certain pages seem to be part of the bloat problem. The print took a long time around pages 11 and 22.
One troubleshooting technique would be extract pages to separate files and look at the details of each page to see what is causing the issue.
    Need to go. Good luck.
