CS2 Indesign, MS Office 2004 Powerpoint all hang after 10.5.2 update

They were working fine, and now when trying to open a file from the dialog box they hang and even a force quit won't shut them down. Any thoughts on how to fix?

I was having the same issue with Office 2004. I installed Oynx and under the cleaning tab, I cleared the User application and temporary items caches. Rebooted and viola Office 2004 apps start up great.

After doing some Internet research and speaking with a second-level Apple tech, together we came up with the following solution.
Shut down, then start in safe-mode (hold shift key while re-starting). This will clear the font cache and re-build it. After doing this, when I started Word 2004 it took some time, but it showed the following fonts as corrupt: APC Courier, Bastion, Chicago TU, Courier TU, Latinski - and indicated they should be removed. Word then started up even though I just clicked OK to those messages and didn't remove them. I then re-started Word and it came up normally even though those fonts are still in the font book. By the way, I have downloaded the freeware app "Fontnuke-1.17," but haven't used it yet. There is a shareware app, "Fontfinagler," which may also be useful if safe mode doesn't work for you.

The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

Try a Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

Why is my volume not working when I either a. Restart my phone, or b. when it gets put on the charger? This all happened after the ios 6 update and I am so FREAKING annoyed that my volume won't work!

NOthing I do gets my volume back, nothing. I wish I could get the ios 5 back just so I won't have this issue, I hate the new software!

This has been going on now since the update began.
The phone does this weather i slide the volume button to silent then back, I use the volume buttons and get that picture you see above.I restart volume off then back on. I adjust settings turning everything off include adjust volume with buttons, then back on.I check the do not disturb under settings.
I'm not an idiot, I have messed with everything, restarted, tried it on and off the charger.
Sometimes it just has no sound, like the phone doesn't realize there even is a volume as you can see in the above pic, there is no gage that even lets you mess with the volume because it's not muted, it's just not there. Then randomly at some point it comes back.
This all started after the ios 6 update, and I was hoping it would get fixed. I miss the ios5 and have been considering moving over to android with the new Samsung galaxy 3....because right now apple is not beig very technical friendly at all.

Microsoft Office 2004 still hanging after Rosetta and Combo Update

I have been running MO 2004 on my intel Mac for the past 6 mo without any issues. Recently it has begun to hang one program at at time. Beginning with PPT, then Excel, Word, and now Entourage. I did some searching and saw an article on Rosetta. I installed it from the DVD and installed the combo update 10.6.8. On restart everything worked perfectly. Each program all started up. I closed them back out and went to restart them again...just to be sure. They all are hanging again. What is happening, what can I do? Many thanks, JD

What now? Do I migrate all my stuff to the new account? If so how do I do that?
Incidentally my Adobe CS2 programs had started to hang too. Reinstalling from disc did not help. Then I found free CS2 downloads including serial numbers from Adobe and that fixed them.

Migration manager with Adobe CS2 and Microsoft Office 2004

I had already downloaded my academic copy of office 2008 as soon as I opened the computer. To my total aggravation, it too had the stupid ribbon format that office 2007 has on the pc version. Then to my total surprise when I used the migration manager, it moved all my old programs over from my macbook running 10.4.11. This included office 2004. It seems to operate just fine, but am worried about when I end up opening documents from an email or something that it will end up opening in 2008 instead. Also, when it moved my Adobe CS2 it said some type of error message about color matching. That seems to be the case in the color sliders at least, the colors don't look right, but the images seem fine when they open. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks!

Find a document you would normally open with Office 2004, and use the menu in the Finder to 'Get Info'.
In that window, you have an option to dictate which program to always open that file type with, and to apply that choice to all similar files.
Make the change and close that window.

So first of all, I've always had a problem with the Office 2004 CDs even running in my CD-ROM. Other CDs work fine, but not Office 2004 (and I've tried multiple copies). Even to install on Tiger, I had to sit there and just keep reinserting the CD when it wouldn't read and wait till the magical one time when it did and I could proceed with the install (my theory is that this particular line of CDs must achieve a specific temperature within my CDROM by spinning countless times before they'll be read )
I'm experiencing the same problem with Leopard. However, it's taking much longer for the CDROM to recognize the CD (only once so far in probably 60 tries). The big problem is that when it actually read the CD and loaded up the install file disk onto my desktop and I opened it the Office Setup Assistant was greyed out. When I clicked to activate it, I got an error message that read:
"You can't open the application 'Office Setup Assistant" because the Classic environment is no longer supported."
I have no idea what this means really. I tried looking some stuff up online about it and from what I can gather this is an issue with trying to run OS 9 apps on an OS X machine (could be wrong on that too). I've only ever had an OS X machine, so I'm not sure why I'm getting this message -- any ideas on why and how to resolve it?

I can clarify your error message for you. The Classic environment was essentially an OS9 emulator, in case you had to use an application that hadn't been upgraded for OSX. But the Apple OS no longer provides that support for OS9, so an OS9 app such as this Setup Assistant can't run at all under Leopard. But the Assistant isn't necessary-- it just saves you the trouble of going thru each Office app's Preferences and customizing your settings.
As for your CD problems, it sounds like Microsoft laid some crappy discs on you. Maybe you could exchange them?

Safari hangs after 10.4.7 update

When I was running 10.4.6, Firefox and Safari were comparible in speed.
After I upgraded to 10.4.7, I'll enter a URL or click a link to another page, and Safari will just kinda hang after loading about half of the items on a page (according to the progress bar at the bottom). Usually if I re-request a page (clicking a link a second time, or re-entering the URL) the page will load completely. Firefox loads all pages as it did before.
I've done all the permissions repair thingys.
I've tried upgrading my flash player to flash 9 (just came out today, I think) but it didn't help, though flash 9 seems to now allow me to view spiketv.com videos that I wasn't able to see before.
I also did a "Reset Safari", and I think it helped a little, but the hanging problem persists.
Has anyone else experienced this since upgrading to 10.4.7?

I'm suffering from the same problem but it started a few days ago without me installing 10.4.7. It just hangs while downloading web pages. I don't mean the browser app hangs - I can still access menus. It just fails to download web pages. This will typically happen after, say, 30 minutes of use. I have reset Safari, switched of Java and Javascript, and it all has no effect. If I quit Safari and restart it cures the problem for a short while. If I disconnect from my wireless network and reconnect it has no effect. Meanwhile Firefox works fine so that's the browser I'll use until Apple fix Safari. The hang can happen mid-page, and then from that point no pages in any tabs will download.

ICal, iChat and Mail All Crashing After 10.6.1 Update

I just thought I'd people a heads up here. While it could be isolated, on my 2.8 MBP 15" Unibody, while 10.6.0 had been working well, now under 10.6.1 Mail, iCal and iChat all hang on application launch. All three crash reports show:
Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: 0x000000000000000d, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Each of these are the 64-bit apps. I'm looking for a solution, but if anyone is aware of what's going on here, I'd love to know!

I get the same type of exception type : EXCBADACCESS (SIGSERGV)
But for me the exception code says KERNINVALIDADDRESS
anyway, 10.6.1 does nothing to fix this.

Mail Hangs after 10.5.6 update

After installing the 10.5.6 update via Software Update Mail started to Hang. Odd, it worked for about a day then turned south, very south. I have no 3rd party add-ons. Simple set up to SBC global DSL via yahoo. I can't even create a new account because Mail hangs within 5-10 seconds of launch-beach ball and force quit. I have restored a pre update version of mail.app via Time Machine, but that does not change a thing. Kept both versions. I don't know what other elements could/should be restored from Time Machine to regain pre update functionality. Please, any suggestions.

After losing hours of my life trying to find an answer, I tried mucking around myself. Found that Time Machine can indeed restore Mail, or at least it did repair my problem. Rather than replacing Mail.app and main library files, which did nothing, I restored my 'User' Mail LIbrary ( 'damaged user Account' >Library>Mail ) to Sunday before the 10.5.6 update. Be sure to Import mailboxes from the splash screen Welcome to Mail Window that will appear when you relaunch Mail after TM restore, this will restore all the mail boxes as they were, otherwise everything is empty. I now will be archiving my mail diligently, I promise, even before the new year. Seems the 10.5.6 upgrade has caused many many problems in many many areas, Mail just being the one I was blessed with. Good Luck. Time Machine is Wonderful when it is on an external HD.

IPhoto hangs after 9.3.2 update/Mountain Lion upgrade...must force quit to close.

I updated to iPhoto 9.3.2 this morning. Then, I upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion. I can open iPhoto and use it, without any noticeable problems, however, when I try to quit iPhoto, it hangs indefinitely. It doesn't crash, it just doesn't quit. In order to close it, I have to use Force Quit, which does close it. But there's obviously a problem...
I don't seem to be having any other issues, but this isn't the first time I've experienced minor issues with iPhoto on my early 2008-build iMac...iPhoto has been glitchy (slow, temporarily freezes) for quite a while...I keep thinking these updates will solve the problem, but they don't seem to help/make it worse...
Any suggestions/ideas?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Lost all photos after iphoto latest iphoto update

I have just lost all my photos in iphoto after latest update. Anyone knows whats going on?
Over 3,000 photos for last 15 years and I am devastated not forgetting I relly on apple as I own most of their products.
I see a trend in apple updates, deleting of user data as similar thing happened with email when I updated to OSX Mountain Lion way back.
Apple should know not forget user data is more importnat than updates as there is no point owning a device that will not give me confort that my data is safe.

I installed iPhoto Library Manager, and it's a great program, however I am still having issues.
I discovered today in the Day One App, as well as Mail that the Photo Browser contains the missing photos, projects etc. See image below. I have no idea where these photos are kept and when I search for the name of a photo, the photo does not appear.
I clicked on Aperture and it would like me to Upgrade, and I'm not sure if I should, please advise.
Lastly in the iPhoto Library Manager, when I select add library and click on Aperture I get the messsage attached.
Do you have any insight on this. It looks like the photos are there, I just don't know where to look.
