Not getting much response at the InDesign Forum so I thought I would take a shot here......

I am building a catalog for pdf output web & CD, a page has 4 book publications on it. Each has a picture/button of the cover that when clicked opens a iPhoto slide presentation on the book contents. The .mov file is iPhoto's largest formate output. When the "interactive frames" for the .mov files are placed on the page they overlap each other, the book descriptions, picture/buttons and .mov windows. A random click on the page (it is almost all active)can start the slides of another book on the page. Aaaand if I place the .mov window say low on the page near the triggering picture it plays half off screen. The location of the .mov window on the page appears to be linked to the top left corner of the interactive frame. It makes a confusing mess of overlapped .mov windows. Can I hide the interactive frame or make it inactive so the .mov can only be triggered by the programed button?

I should think so. If the .mov is on one button hidden from start, only the button should make it show and play. I hope someone more clever than me can help you, I have puzzled a bit with these features and my conclusion is that creating buttons and using the show/hide option can take you along. Adobe Bridge Always Opens CS2

Recent thunderstorn activity caused several rapid cycling of power on and off to my computer. Now have some change in behavior as how Adobe Bridge and PhotoShop CS2 interact. Previously I could open Bridge (ver. 1.0.4.6) as a standalone app and make my raw edits. Now upon trying to open Bridge, CS2 always opens first and then Bridge. CS2 always remains in the background. I am not able to open Bridge as atandalone. While this is not a major problem, it is certainly different from the workflow to which I was accustomed. I reinstalled Bridge and ACR 3.7 but same symptons present. Should I reinstall CS2? Any ideas??

I never had CS2, but in CS3 open PS and in the preferences section there is an option to "start Bridge on login". I don't recall an option to start PS at startup.
Might check the OS startup preferences.
If all else fails you can reset the preferences for Bridge and Photoshop. Believe for CS2 you have to press and hold down the ctrl + alt + shift while clicking on icon to start program.

Can I create a template PDF (or other file) in InDesign, that my client can update images in?

I've designed a brochure for a client, and they would like to know if I can make a version where they will be able to swap out the images (and text) to update it for future projects.
This is perfectly fine by me, as I am taking on other clients and may not be able to do this for them in the future. I also know how to create the text in this way, as I can set up each header and body as a separate "form" they can fill in with Reader and save... however, I don't know how to make it possible for them to edit/replace the images without them having something like Acrobat.
Is it possible to create an interactive frame they can "upload" an image to and then save the PDF? They are a small business, so I'd rather not tell them they have to buy additional software. I'd also like to make it as easy for them as possible.
I am also aware, however, that even if an image can be embedded, a PDF may not be able to resize an image to fit within such a frame. I can, however, write an exe that will resize the images for them if needed. I just don't know how to get them into the PDF...
A template like this would probably be simple in HTML, but unfortunately the design of the brochure is beyond my ability to reproduce in Dreamweaver, and I also assume printing an HTML document would be a nightmare for the print shop lol.

You can use the same forms method for images, but it gives you no control over postioning in the frame or scaling/cropping.
The bottom line here really is that this kind of editing should be done in ID, and if they want to do it they probably should invest in a license, even if it's just a month-to-month subscription when they need it.

Installing and Controlling Photoshop's ScriptListener Plug-in

I've long wanted a way to control Adobe's Photoshop ScriptListener Plug-in. Yesterday I stumbled onto James A. Taylor Photoshop script vScriptListener.jsx which is dated 9/19/2007. This script can install and give you some control over the script logs that the plug-in writes to while your in Photoshop. With this script GUI you can see the current size of the Script log files, clear a log file, edit a log file and lock a log file from alteration by the ScriptListener and the script. I like this script so much that I created an action for it just so I could open its GUI with a function key. James wrote this script in the CS2 time frame some path have changed and now we have 64 bit and 32 bit Plug-in and different plug-in folders. I changed the script to work with Windows XP install paths. The install ScriptListener part of the Script will therefore not work in a dual install 64 bit and 32 bit environment. However the GUI will work if the ScriptListener Plug-in is installed in your Photoshop your 64 bit and 32 bit setup. What I don't like about the vScriptListener.JSX and the LastLogEntry.jsx script is that their use is recorded into the logs that the ScriptListener writes from an Action or Photoshop menu File>Scripts>... . I like vScriptListener.JSX GUI for managing the log files would even like to see it active all the time and not interfear with Photoshop other then locking and unlocking the logs. I'm a windows user and kenw it would be an easy job to do using a dos bat file. I'm sure X could write a JavaScript application to do the LastLogEntry function external to Photoshop if he wanted to. Will DOS ever die? Here is my Windows Bat file which I created a shortcut for on my desktop that positions a three line Dos Window for its user interface at the bottom right of my screen.

Make an animation program

Hi, all
I wanted to know if there is a way, or a script, to make an interactive frame by frame animation program in Adobe flash cs6.
Basically a REALLY condensed version of flash, with just simple capabilities, like drawing, saving, onion skin, etc... And also
be able to publish it. I know it may sound like a rather difficult task, but I am up for it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Apple has a developer's kit if you want to program your own visulaizer, but I, also, am not aware of any ready-made programs that will create a visualizer for you.

Make JTable ignore button mnemonics?

I'm creating a Swing app with a JTable and a JButton with a mnemonic. The app works as desired when I click on the button, but when I use the key combination for the mnemonic, any subsequent click on the table throws
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.ArrayStoreException: java.lang.String
 at javax.swing.JTable$1.setValueAt(JTable.java:476)My guess is that because the table is using the DefaultTableModel it interprets the keypress for the button as an attempt to edit the cell data. Is that correct?
I suppose one solution would be to extend AbstractTableModel as described in the tutorial and prohibit cell editing. Is there simpler solution?

How do I reload PS CS5 since there is no more support?

I have PS CS5. It was originally a PC version, I contacted Adobe when i ditched my PC and went Mac several years ago.
Now my profile page no longer has PS CS5 listed, I do not have an install code and my Photomerge is gone.
I contacted customer support and found that CS5 is beyond it's life support from customer service.
i need to do a complete reinstall according to someone that contacted me from Adobe communities.

I am looking for the best way (or any way) to interact between two different frames in the same indesign template as well as from one template to another. It's for a DPS app which needs to carry some button initiated data from one page to another and then present it in a table.

There is no simple way to do it, as itunes wont let you use it on another computer without wiping the contents first.
However if you really want to transfer songs to another computer then you could try this;
* make sure that your ipod is accessible as a disk drive (ipod options)
* when you plug your ipod into the computer you want to transfer to make sure you select "no" or "cancel" when it asks to wipe the contents. Leave the ipod connected and quit from itunes.
* go to "my computer" and access the ipod directly. You probably have to select "view hidden files" from windows. You will see a lot of folders with odd names like ZX838aff with similar named files inside.
* copy these files to a folder on your computers hardrive. Now remove the ipod and start itunes.
* import the files from the folder you made in the last step.
* Now your music is on itunes, but with unrecogisable names.
This is the only way I have found to do it, but there may be another way, say with an application to do the hard work for you.

I was wondering if anyone had a script for converting multiple text boxes into interactive buttons in InDesign that will work in a PDF file?
I'm primarily using CS2, but I do have access to CS3 and CS4 as well.

CS2 JS - targetting frame labels within groups

I have some CS2 JS scripts that cycle through sequentially labelled frames but they fail if the target frame happens to be part of an object group.
Is it possible to target frames via their labels whilst they are still grouped together or perhaps grouped with other objects?

How to use Adobe Interactive forms with ISR frame work in Webdynpro forJava

Anybody worked on Adobe Interactive forms with ISR frame work in Webdynpro for Java in ESS/MSS development.
We have already searched in ISR_Cookbook_2004, however we didn't anything related webdynpro for java in that.
Any information regarding this will be of great help.

There are a number of issues here. A form that you created with LiveCycle Designer (XFA) cannot be used with FormsCentral. An Acroform, the kind you can create with Acrobat, can be used with FormsCentral, with certain limitations, one of which is skip logic. A dynamic XFA form allows for this type of thing, but as mentioned, they don't work with FormsCentral. You can set up an Acroform to show/hide or activate/inactivate fields based on selections or entries made in other fields, but you'd have to set this up in Acrobat, not FormsCentral. So you can set up something roughly equivalent to a web form's skip logic, but you'd have to learn how to do this in Acrobat using JavaScript. There is a separate Acrobat JavaScript forum here if you have any questions.

Is it possible to place a video into a circle frame for export as interactive PDF?

I've been trying to figure out how to embed video files into a circle shape frame for export as interactive pdf. Every time I export the document as interactive PDF, the video frame reverts back to a rectangle shape. Basically what I'm attempting to do is embed a .gif like animation of a face (saved as mp4 because it's my understanding that PDF can't support gif files) in a circle frame that plays on document load when exported as interactive pdf. Any suggestions, bypasses, solutions would be much appreciated.

But you missed a couple steps in your directions:
(1) Make a rectangle filled with Paper color.
(2) Make a circle filled with None (this will be the mask for the movie).
(3) Move the circle over the rectangle. Select both and choose Object > Path > Make Compound Path. This creates a paper-color rectangle with a hole.
(4) Position the rectangle-with-hole object over the movie to position the mask.
(5) Use the Buttons and Forms panel to make that object into a button. Give it an action of playing the movie.
(6) Choose File > Export > PDF (Interactive).
It works because the button (which has interactivity) is atop another object which has interactivity (the movie).

How to Add Media to a Custom Frame That Preserves to Interactive PDF

What I'm doing/trying to do:
I have a custom object that I want to use as a frame in which the video would be placed. The object is a somewhat rectangular frame that I've custom made to fit over a portion of my background image.
Adobe InDesign interactive pdf exports don't play any html embed codings I add (even after making sure the http:// is present) nor does the InDesign accept any of the video from URL links I put in from YouTube or Vimeo using the Add Media function. Therefore I tried using the actual media file and uploading it to my Adobe Indesign file. However, the video won't play or appear in my custom frame when I export it, but the video file will play when I plop it in without a frame. Before exporting I get the message: :
So:
A) What urls will Adobe Indesign ACTUALLY accept since all the ones I've used so far don't work?
B) How do I add a video file to a custom frame that fits appropriately into the frame?
C) How do I get URL based media to work in interactive pdfs?
D) If I can't do what I'm trying to do as an interactive pdf what file should I be saving it as so that I can make it work?

I have never yet heard of anyone who has successfully played a YouTube or Vimeo streaming video from an interactive PDF. You could search for some kind of a third party utility that claims to convert that to a video format. You should aim to create an MP4 file, preferably with H.264 encoding. I've also never read the description of someone who has done such a conversion, though it is theoretically possible.
You will be unsuccessful in masking a video to play in a non-rectangular frame because in a PDF, the interactivity also is display above anything else on the page.
