CS2 message:  "Clipping Path Limited Reached for TIFF Preview"

I searched the forum and knowledge base and did not find answers than can help me with a message I received while saving my Illustrator CS2 .ai file to .eps file. The message said "Clipping Path Limited Reached For TIFF Preview". The file size is 500KB and is a chart of black and white symbols. The chart is 52 squares wide X 126 squares long, each square 1pt each.
I had split the chart into 2 separate files and the message appeared again before finishing the save to .eps format. I am running Wins XP and just recently upgraded to 2gig of memory.
Would anyone know what this message means? Any help is appreciated.
J.Chin "newbie"

I don't know exactly what that message means (or what one would have to do in Illustrator to get it to appear), but you might try saving without the TIFF preview. (Select "none" under the preview section when you are in the EPS options dialog box.)
A potential problem with that workaround (assuming it helps at all) is that some applications rely on the low-res TIFF preview for on-screen representation. EPS artwork with no preview, in such cases, will usually be represented by a nondescript placeholder box. Output to a PostScript device, however, will be unaffected.

    I am getting the following intermittent error "err connection limited reached for your ip address" since this morning. It must have something to do with changing to the SSL ports. This applies to this account and my sub-accounts.
    How do I get it fixed?

    This issue was supposedly resolved by Verizon. Are you still getting this error?

  • Converted clipping path to frame (InDesign CS2)

    I am working with files where the person has converted clipping paths to frames for the images. I need to resize the images but it leaves a blank silhouette of the hollowed out space (where the image was) and a view in the background of the full image, including the background. I'm new to InDesign and need to find out how to resize these images or how to undo the convert clipping path to frame. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    How are you trying to resize the frames now? Try Pressing Ctrl + Shift BEFORE you click the mouse on a sizing handle and drag. (you shouldn't need to press the keys first, but there was a bug in CS3 and I think it may still be in CS4 on the Windows platform).
    You can also use the scale tool (hold shift to size proportionally) or use the SCALE fields -- the third set from the left, not the second set which are height and width of the frame only -- on the control panel or in the transform panel. These scale both content and container together.
    By default the scale fields will say 100% after any transformation, and ID expects you to input percentage values in them and interprets numbers without units as per cent, but you can enter any value you like as long as you specify the units, so you can put 3in into the width field and the frame will become 3 inches wide. Scaling using the control panel is relative to the control point in the proxy on the left end, so if you select the upper left point, the upper left point of the bounding box will remain stationary and everything else will move toward or away from that.

  • Clip Paths and temp-files

    I guess that clip paths are needed for all the files I've
    pasted from Illustrator, but do I need all the temp-files?
    How can I clean up the clip paths, bitmaps and temp files I
    don't use in my project? Flash freezes a couple of seconds now when
    I add, remove or edit an item in the Library...

    Now I may be wrong (see my sig), but there is only one way I
    know to get only the files you use into the library. Copy all of
    the frames in the main timeline (highlight all frames - right-click
    copy frame), then create a blank document, right-click on frame one
    and paste the frames. That will only bring across items from the
    library that are used, leaving behind the garbage. Save your new
    document.

  • ID3/4: Clipping Path of TIFFs selectable

    Currently we are working with EPS files with clipping paths. These paths are - if not activated during import or in the menu - not selectable. If you have the same image as TIFF, clipping path is *always* selectable and can be modified (with direct selection tool). We want to avoid unwanted modification of the path, i.e. the same behaviour as EPS. Is that possible?
    best regards,
    Jörg

    Kim
    I don't think PSE4 has "clipping paths" per se; I've seen that referenced in posts about the full Photoshop CS2.
    However, you can select the item using any of the selection tools. Why don't you start with the Lasso Tool? You can trace the outline of the ice cream (you'll see a series of "marching ants"). Anything inside the "ants" will be selected.
    If you need to fine tune the selection, you can change to a small brush. Painting with the brush will add to the selection; painting while holding down the ALT key will shrink the edge of the selection. (easier to do than explain).
    Once you get the area you like, you can do a Cntl+J and this will put the area selected (the ice cream) on a seperate layer.
    Making clean selections takes a little practice but it is one of the key techniques in Elements.
    Hope this helps-Ward.

  • CS2 clipping paths incompatible with CS3 indesign

    Hi there
    I need to use photoshop images with clipping paths that were created in photoshop CS2 in a indesign CS3 doc (working on a mac OS X 10.5.4). I import the image ok, the trouble is every time I try to activate the clipping path I get the spinning wheel of doom and the application stops responding.
    The image opens up fine in CS3 photoshop, there only seems to be a problem with the path itself which I've tried copying onto other images which I know work and it does the same thing with them.
    I used the image in indesign CS2 as a test and it worked properly, which is why I think the 2 packages are incompatible.... oddly enough, I'm using some really old images which were created before CS was a glint in the milkmans eye and they work perfectly.
    Does anybody know a way around this, or indeed if this is a bug or something?
    Thanks

    It is a bug but Adobe fixed it.
    If you want to use EPS files with clipping paths, that is fine, but be aware that there were problems that InDesign recovered from about 2 years ago. I wrestled through that time with many problems with clipping and have lots of documentation I never want to drag out again.
    The thing is to have everything updated. Files that were saved will not be fixed by copying paths, you need to re-save the files in an up-to-date version of Photoshop by doing 'save as' to overwrite.
    Sorry you're having this problem, it stinks but was remedied in updates. Try one file that you know doesn't work and do the save-as to see if that fixes it. Open and save in the latest CS3 version of course.
    Get rid of your CS2 InDesign. Use CS3 only.

  • Cannot export video clips.  Get message: "unable to create video for export"

    Cannot export video clips from iPhoto to Finder folder.  Export fails with message "unable to create video for export: "
    The video clips play correctly within iPhoto.
    Software: iPhoto version 9.5 on OSX 10.9
    Hardware: Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 i7 8GB

    Yes.  I have 3,184 video clips in this library.  I tested Reveal function by randomly selecting individual video clips and in every case the Reveal in Finder function worked correctly.  I also tested this on random selections of groups of video clips and, again, the Reveal function worked correctly in every case.
    Some more info that may be relevant:
    I have multiple iPhoto libraries.  My "main" library is very large (~30,000 files) and is located on an external hard drive (2TB WD) which is connected via USB.
    The problem reported here is occuring on that "main" library.  I have not opened any other iPhoto library since installing the new release.
    While the File>Export function does not work, I have been able to simply copy and paste video clips from iPhoto library to a folder on Mac hard drive.  It appears that meta data is copying correctly along with the video content.
    I am able to import these copied video clips to iMovie.  Meta data is imported along with the video content and I'm able to perform iMovie editing functions on those clips without any problems.
    In summary, the File>Export function still fails with the message "unable to create video for export."  Copying video clips and pasting them to interim folder seems to be a viable workaround enabling me to extract video clips from iPhoto for import to iMovie.  I will run additional tests to see if I can find a pattern to the video files that are being rejected by iPhoto Export function.

  • [CS2] [JS]  Apply photoshop clipping path

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to apply the photoshop clipping path to all images in a document, If the image contains one ?
    I can't find a clipping path property of the graphic object in the reference manual...
    The loop structure itself is not a problem...
    for (var j = app.activeDocument.allGraphics.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
    Thanx
    Tim

    Hi Peter,
    I've just tried using...
    for (var j = app.activeDocument.allGraphics.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
    try
    var theEPSItem = app.activeDocument.allGraphics[j];
    var theClippingPath = theEPSItem.clippingPath;
    if ( ( theClippingPath.clippingType != ClippingPathType.photoshopPath ) &&
    ( theClippingPath.photoshopPathNames.length > 0 ) )
    theClippingPath.clippingType = ClippingPathType.photoshopPath;
    catch ( e )
    ... something strang happens when running the script. The clipping path settings of the EPS-files are changed and are correct. However, the result is not yet visible. So I still have to open the clipping path settings menu and click on the ok button... Then the result is displayed.
    Any idea's ?
    Tim

  • What is the benefit of using clipping paths for a knock out?

    I found a posting saying they need someone to knock out the background of a lot of images using clipping paths. My question is, WHY use a clipping path? I know the rule of not using a selection tool such as the Magic Wand and then turning it into a clipping path and I know why that is. But if all is needed is for the background to be knocked out, why can't we just use the selection tool in the first place and just knock out the background from there? What is the benefit of that clipping mask?

    Usually the term Clipping Path refers to turning a path into a clipping path (in the paths panel) for use in older programs such as PageMaker that don't support transparency.
    For example if one wanted to import a file into PageMaker and only have a certain part of the document visible, one would make a path (or selection) around the object
    and turn the path (or selection) into a clipping path. Sorta the same results you see in photoshop using a layer mask or vector mask.
    Also clipping paths are used in certain printing workflows.
    Without seeing the posting it's hard to say what they meant and in photoshop 6 vector masks were labeled as Layer Clipping Paths not to be confused with real clipping paths.
    Old versions of photoshop also used the term Group With Previous to denote Create Clipping Mask.

    Anyway clipping masks and clipping paths are two different things in photoshop.

  • CS6 clipping path for layer group

    Hi
    In PS cs6 i cant find how to create clipping path for layer group (apply to folder from some shape layer with alt + drag&drop) created with pen, rectangle etc tools.
    Here is how it should look in cs6 but i don't know how to do that
    Thanx in advance

    Shape Layers’ Vector Masks don’t appear in the Layers Panel in CS6 (seems like a bad idea to me, but that’s the way it is now), so you could still select the Shape Layer with a Path Tool, select the Paths, copy, select the Group, paste, Layer > Vector Mask > Current Path or command-click the Layer Mask icon in the Layers Panel.
