CS2 on PowerPC 10.5?

There's a number of posts concerning CS2 on Intel Macs, but I haven't seen this one discussed: Does anyone know if CS2 will run decently on a PowerPC (G5) running 10.5? I'm on 10.3.9 and need to migrate....
Any first hand experiences?

Problem: I have CS2 running in Tiger on a PowerMacG5. Illustrator won't open. It tries and dialogue box opens reading: 'Could not complete the requested operation', I use PhotoShop daily no problem. Acrobat is is fine as well. I have, but do not use, Version Cue. I haven't been using Illustrator lately but did use it daily in May and June. I used Disk Utility and tried to verify and repair permissions. That was insignificant and
Background: In August, my PowerMac G5 (liquid cooled) running Tiger 10.4.11, shorted out taking CPU and logic board. I did not want to spend the 2K for another fatally flawed liquid cooled CPU, but also not able to buy a newer Mac and all required software. space and speed for the work I do. So, I pulled the HD from the defunct tower body and looked on Craig's List and found another tower that had a second HD installed running 10.5 and lots of software. I don't use that second drive except as storage for now. I do not work in 10.5 but have opened the computer in Leopard and have opened a few programs loaded on it, but not Photoshop elements 4.0 and Bridge installed.
Do I need to do a complete de-install of CS2 in 10.4.11 and then reinstall? I do not have the liquid damaged tower body and, since it shorted out never to be turned on again, I could not de-authorize the older 'body' or logic board and it did not occur to me when I left it behind. The HD is exactly the same and so I am NOT installing to a different engine, but the engine is in a different vehicle. I can't afford to lose my Pshop access so, any ideas since it doesn't appear that I can re-install Illustrator only? Sorry to go on so long. I'm sleepless.

    Hi emegemedia,
    Welcome to Adobe Forum,
Since CS2 is an end of life product, we have removed it from server.
You can download & reinstall it from https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2_downloads
You have to use the serial number mentioned along with the product.
    Hope it helps you.

  • POWERPC APP are no longer supported

I recently bought a new Mac. After installing Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium I am unable to open the program's. The following message appears : .. unable to open CS2 because PowerPC app are no longer supported. I read on Apple forum that this has to do with the new OS Maverics. Does this mean that I must purchase the whole program again ??

No, you do not have to repurchase the program. You do, however, need to make sure you install Rosetta, which will run outdated software like this still. I am STILL working on figuring out how to get Rosetta on mine since the update (without checking the Rosetta box) was already done. If you figure out how to get Rosetta after the update has been done, PLEASE let me know. That's the problem I am having...

  • Going from a PPC to an Intel Mac

Will OS 10.8 Mountain Lion support PPC apps (those I've been running on OS 10.3 up to 10.5.8 Leopard)? I think they will run also on OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, but can't confirm until I have an Intel Mac (needed to run OS 10.6). If OS 10.8 will not support them, will OS 10.7 Lion? I Know that 10.9 Maverick will not.

    Thanks, Lyssa for your reply
A good portion of the software you're running probably has an Intel-compatible version at this point.
That's true, except for one really important CAD app I need. My CAD app (Canvas X) was no longer upgraded for Mac starting about 2007. It has been upgraded only for Windows. I think this is about the same time that Mac completed its switch from PPC to Intel, which most likely explains the unwillingness of my CAD company to upgrade. I'm reluctant to attempt running a Windows CAD app on a Mac, using Bootcamp or Parallels.
Much better I think is to get the latest MacBook that will run OS 10.6
Try running Canvas X in Snow Leopard Server installed into Parallels for use in Mavericks.

No way. AE 7 (CS2) requires PowerPC support and Apple themselves have long pulled the plug on it.

  • When I try to install Photoshop CS2 I receive a message that PowerPC is no longer supported.

    Hi,
I bought a new laptop to my company to work at, and now im trying to install Photoshop on it.
Since my last 2 versions of Photoshop have been upgrades and i only have the full version of PS2.
I've been trying to install the PS2 but it keeps telling me "You cant open the installer cause PowerPC-program no longer is supported".
So i've been trying to download it via ur homepage instead (yes the products are registered).
But i cant seem to find any way to download my product from ur page? I've checked all over ur homepage but without any luck.
Is it not possible to download a product from ur homepage that i've payed quite a fortune for????
Hope i can get a reply asap.

ToreHagman did you purchase a new Intel processor based Mac?  If so then the error message will be accurate.  Looking at the system requirements for Photoshop CS2 it appears it required a PowerPC based processor as opposed to an Intel processor.
You might also be having additional problems if you are using 10.7 as Rosetta/PowerPC emulation support was dropped in 10.7 as well.

Lion is Not compatible with PPC (Power PC) based software, such as your older version of PhotoShop.  Your choices are you can either upgrade to the newer version of PhotoShop, or you can backup your data and apps, erase your harddrive and reinstall Snow Leopard.

  • CS2 PowerPC 10.5.8 re Install thwarted by Adobe d/c of activation server, need help!

I had a computer issue, had to re-install my previously (2009) installed Creative Suite 2 Premium, w/ valid SN. Completely removed all previous Adobe product, checked and repaired permissions and dumped a bunch of suspect fonts. Rebooted and emptied the trash numerous times. Installed (not really) and got to on line or phone activation, only to find out activation server is kaput. I needed an Activation Code and would have been home free. Instead, i had to go D/L the same CS2 suite off Adobes site, w/ posted SN. I AGAIN removed all Adobe product from computer, only to have new error message come up with Cue being the only thing it will allow me to re-install. The PSD, ILL and InDesign buttons are greyed out and unavailable to install. It says I ALREADY HAVE THOSE ITEMS INSTALLED. I have checked, double checked and triple checked for any adobe traces of install, out of every folder in library, preferences, applications and anywhere else. Same message comes up. After spending a long time on Chat being shuffled between departments, i ultimately get sent here. They say they can't help me as CS2 is so old. PITA. All to re-install something i legally purchased and installed years ago! I'd upgrade if this was an Intel processor. But alas, this old PowerPC is at the end of it's road apparently. Any help to get me running again so i can get some work done? Any help is appreciated.
    Tim

Went there did that. After D/L the above link(s), the installer somehow recognizes (falsely) that Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are installed, and their respective buttons are greyed out. Should i install individual components as opposed to the whole suite? I've checked and checked again for any remaining adobe product, there isn't any i can find. Another suggestion?

  • Upgrading Adobe CS2 PowerPC to Lion

Hi, I have recently purchased a new iMac running Lion software and have just realised that this will not allow me to install the current CS2 PowerPC Creative Suite that I was using on my previous Mac. What I would like to know is if and how it is possible to upgrade from this CS2 software to the new Adobe CS5 software which will be supported by my new mac without needing to splash out on the full adobe creative suite again.
    Thanks
    Scott

CS2 is the earliest version eligible for discount upgrades, and Adobe is offering 20% off the regualr upgrade prices through the end of the year. Thy also seem to have a Black Friday deal that ends today, which is 30% off the regular upgrade price.
The upgrade list can be tough to navigate, so be careful. You cannot upgrade a single componenet out of a suite package (you have to do the whole suite), but you can upgrade to a package from some (perhaps all) stand-alone products, but there are different upgraders and prices depending on your product and version.

  • How to upgrade from PowerPC G4 w/1GB using CS2 to Mac Pro w/2GB running CS3

    Hello. I have a Mac PowerPC G4 with 1GB of RAM and I'm running OS X 10.4.11. I'm using CS2 ver 9.0.2.
I have a new Mac Pro with 2GB of RAM and I'm running OS X v10.5.2.
I would like to run CS3 on my new Mac Pro.
Could anyone guide me in accomplishing this? I'd like to buy the upgrade to CS3 of course.
I can't figure out how to do this because of course I want to just load CS3 on the new computer but I want to pay for just the upgrade. And, if I buy the upgrade, I'm not sure my old computer will run CS3.
    Thanks,
    Deena

    Deena,
In addition to the previous comments, before you do this though, I recommend that you put more RAM in your computers (particularly the G4) so they don't choke trying to run CS3, your operating system, and whatever else you have running. Also check your hard drive free space, particularly on your older Mac, so that you have scratch disk space and place to store at least some of your images.
And in preparation for the CS3 installation (which is really quite easy), be sure you boot off the System Disk and use Disk Utility to repair permissions and the disk and boot off the DiskWarrior disk and run repairs as well. Repeat repair permissions after the installation. These maintenance routines will help insure that your new CS3 runs well.
You will find that you have both CS2 and CS3 on your drive. You can safely uninstall CS2 if you wish.
If you have questions about any of this, please get back to us.
    Neil

  • I have cs2. Was running on OSX Snow Leopard.  Upgraded OSX to Lion. Now CS2 will not run (PowerPC)

I would like to upgrade to Photoshop CC.  Do I get a discount for owning cs2?  How do I claim the discount?

I am sorry Josephbonds but there is no upgrade offer for Creative Suite 2.  You can find the currently available offers at https://creative.adobe.com/plans?s_tnt=62135:1:0.
