CS2, RAW plug-in, Nikon D90

I have a friend who has CS2 and a Nikon D90.  Does anyone know if the Adobe RAW Plug-in works to recognize the D90?  Thanks in advance!  The Plug-in worked for me in CS4 the first time I tried :-)

This is typical of the default NEF RAW conversion of Aperture and the best thing you can do is set up a few presets to apply to all of your RAW images to get a tone curve and colors that is pleasing to you as a default. The in camera JPEGs / embedded JPEGs (that you first see during import) are treated to the Nikon "Picture Control" settings that are set on the camera - the RAW's as interpreted by Aperture are not.
I have written extensively and even have a few downloadable presets on my site - look for NEF...

  • CS2 RAW plug in not working :o(

Hi guys, i have CS2 on a windows 7 laptop. I have recently started college and im desperate to be able to open RAW files. i have downloaded the plug in, but i still cant open them. any help in simple terms would be great. my camera is a nikon d90 NEF RAW is the file type. thanks : o)

Open the DNG converter application. It looks like this:
Then you run through the four sections. First you browse to the folder where you put the D90 NEFs. Just leave that folder selected - the app doesn't convert single files, it converts whole folders.
Same for destination folder, except you can choose to just save in the same folder.
In 3, rename the files if you like, or leave at "document name".
In 4 you pick ACR version compatibility. Since you're on CS2, that'll have to be "2.4 and later". You can also choose to embed the original NEF in the DNG, so that it can be extracted later. Not necessary if you also keep the NEFs, but do one or the other so that you can use a newer ACR version later with full functionality.
Hit "convert". When finished, you have a folder of DNGs that can be opened in ACR 3 (which is what you have).

  • CS2 RAW Plug-In

I need to update Photoshop CS2 with the latest RAW plug-in. I've found the file on the Site for CS3 but not so for CS2. Any help greatly appreciated.
Also, I received an error message in Bridge (CS2) stating that my RAW plug-in may be corrupt and should be replaced. Is there a separate RAW Plug-in for Bridge?
    Thanks,
    Lyman

    >What is 'ACR'
    Adobe Camera RAW.
This is the software which enables you to open RAW files in either Photoshop or Bridge.
It gets updated about four times a year with improvements and modules for newly-introduced cameras.
Unfortunately, CS2 can only use the updates of the ACR plug-in up to version 3.7 you have to be using CS3 to use the newest ACR 4.5.

  • RAW support for Nikon D90

Any idea on when Apple will support RAW NEF files from the Nikon D90?

In the meantime you can do what a lot of professional photographers do: use Adobe's DNG Cconverter to convert the RAW file to the DNG format which iPhoto does support.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Camera Raw plug-in Nikon 800E

I cannot open a Nikon 800E NEF file but I can open older NEF files.
About Plug-in shows Camera raw 8.2
Adobe does support Nikon 800E and I have the latest.
    Can you help?
    Systeminfo
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 14.1.2 (14.1.2 20130923.r.427 2013/09/23:23:00:00) x64
    Required plug-ins:
       Camera Raw 8.2
       Camera Raw Filter 8.2
       Chalk & Charcoal 14.1.2

An obsolete version of Nikon transfer, one that came with your previous, much older, Nikon camera, does erroneously modify something in the header of files, that makes the unrecognizable to Adobe software.  If you want to use Nikon Transfer, use the version that came with your new camera.
You can correct this corruption issue using a utility at the following location:
    http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html
I expect you’d want to use the 14-bit option.

I have CS2. I shot RAW files with my Nikon D90 and now cannot open them in PS.  I heard there was a plug-in to download for this, but cannot find it. Help?

You would need at least CS3 with ACR 4.6 to natively edit NEFs from a D90 in PS:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
It might also work to use the DNG Converter 4.6 or newer to convert the NEF files to DNGs and then those might open in your older CS2 ACR, but I’m not sure, since it’s a 9 year old program I haven’t used in years.
The DNG Converter can be found, here:

  • How can i view nikon images in photoshop? i have cs4 so the camera raw plug-in is not an option and i've lost my disk from the initial purchase of the D90.

how can i view nikon images in photoshop? i have cs4 so the camera raw plug-in is not an option and i've lost my disk from the initial purchase of the D90.

The NEF file only gives a little "nef" icon.  i was able to convert the NEF to DNG on the old computer and then brought the files over to the new computer.  On the old computer, the NEF files were depicted as little jpeg's so I would be able to see a picture of what each file represented.  On the new computer, both the NEF files and the DNG files are depicted with icons, "nef" or "dng", but not as little pictures.  On the new computer, though, I am to import the DNG's into Adobe and edit them so that is working regardless of whether or not a picture is present for the icon of each file.  I've downloaded the DNG converter from Adobe and will try the conversion directly on the new computer when I get home from work.  I do appreciate your responses and will let you know how it works.
I am curious then, since right now the files are represented by little "nef"'s and little "dng"'s: If I also download the viewNX (spelling might be wrong, sorry) from nikon, do you know if that maintains the file as a RAW format file but allows a picture representation of the RAW file for the icon?  (That would make it easier to choose which RAW files I would choose to edit and which to not even bother with as an initial culling if that makes sense.
    Cheers.

  • CS2 Raw File issues with Nikon D90

Just saw the post  on Nikon D90 non compatibility with CS2 raw file format. Questions are where to go from here. Running Windows XP with a AMD Athlon (tm) XP3000+ 2.16 ghz 448 mb ram. Is Cs4 or  Cs5 compatible with my system. I used a D70 for years and had no problems. What is going on here? I can probably add ram to get the 1000 mb of ram but what about the rest? Is there another alternative other than a new system?

    Caution!
Before plunking down the $$$ for CS5, look for the several threads around here where people are discovering their older AMD processors are not compatible with Photoshop CS5!
    For example:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/630771
I'm not familiar with the processors in the AMD lineup, but it's possible yours will not run Photoshop CS5 until such time as Adobe releases an update.

  • How do I install camera raw 4.6 (for Nikon D90) in Elements 6 for a Mac?

I need to install camera raw 4.6 (for Nikon D90) plug-in on Elements 6 for at Mac?  I'ved downloaded the plug-in but it does not seem to work.  I've got Elements 10 on my desktop Mac but I am using Elements 6 on an older iBook G4.  Any help will be appreciated.  thanks.

For PSE 6, get the .plugin out of the download, then go to your hard drive>library>Application Support>Adobe>plug-ins>file formats and remove the old plug-in, then put just the new .plugin file in there instead. Older versions of PSE can't update ACR from the help menu the way PSE 10 can.

  • I have a new Mac.  I installed my Bridge CS4 that I ran on my old mac.  When I import RAW photos from my Nikon d90 they come in with an .NEF extension.  I need to install a converter but cannot find one.

I have a new mac.  I installed my Bridge CS4 and Photoshop CS4 that I ran on my old mac.  When I import RAW pics from my Nikon D90 they come in with the extension of .NEF.  Apparently this is not a readable form for Bridge as the picture does not appear.  I believe I need a converter to convert .NEF to .dng but I can't find one.  Any ideas?

You do not need to convert to DNG.
The NEFs from your camera model have been supported since ACR 4.6 and 5.1.
What you need to do is update your ACR plug-in to version 5.7, the latest and last version for CS4.  Right now, you are probably on ACR 5.0, the version supplied with the original release of Photoshop CS4.
Be aware that the Adobe updater is extremely unreliable when it comes to CS5, so that you must do the update manually.  There are detailed instructions on the ACR 5.7 plug-in download page.  You MUST follow those instructions to the letter.

  • Photoshop CS3 unable to import Nikon D90 RAW NEF Files?

I'm working on MAC with the latest OS and CS3 Photoshop and Lightroom 1.4.1 I'm looking for a way to import the latest Nikon NEF RAW files into Adobe. Will I need to wait for Adobe RAW 5 plugin? I cannot open the latest Nikon NEF Files from the new Nikon D90 slr camera...Any suggestions? Or a date for the new Camera RAW plug
    in??
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

ACR 5 will NOT work with CS3, only with CS4.
    For CS3
and your camera you need ACR 4.6, a nominally beta Release Candidate downloadable from Adobe Labs.

  • Nikon D90 and CS2

Now that I bought a new Nikon D90 camera, I started trying to take photos using Nikon's RAW mode (.NEF). However, my Photoshop CS2 cannot open them the .NEF files. I have read on these forums about downloads that are available for different Photoshop versions and different cameras, but don't know which download would apply to my Nikon/Adobe combination. The Nikon D90 is not listed. Your help would be appreciated. (I use Windows XP.)

Your camera was released long after development for Photoshop CS2 and ACR 3.x had been discontinued. There will never be direct support for your raw files in Photoshop CS2. You would be wise to upgrade to Photoshop CS4, which does support your camera, and ACR is much more robust. If that is not an alternative then you should download the latest version of the DNG converter and use it to convert your NEF files to DNG files. Then you will be able to want to those files in Photoshop CS2 using ACR 3.7.
I should have known that Ramon would beat me to it. :)

  • Open .raw images on my PC from Nikon D90

How do I enable CS4 to open photos with a .raw extension?

D90 raw files should have an NEF extension not a RAW extension.  They are called raw files because they are raw sensor data, but the extension of the file is something else that differs by camera manufacturer.  NEF for Nikon, CR2 for Canon, etc.
If you are asking how to open a D90 raw file with an NEF extension, then your CS4 needs to have its Camera Raw plug-in updated to at least ACR 5.1.  What version of the ACR plug-in does your CS4 have, currently?  You can check by doing Help / About Plug-in / Camera Raw (on Windows).  Not sure what it is on a Mac, maybe Plug-in / Camera Raw.
