CS2 re-activation on Vista?

Sounds like a double problem!  But my CS2 worked well on Vista.  I had no problems either installing or activating it at all last year.  Until to solve a different problem, HP wiped my computer and reinstalled Vista, but it was up to me to reinstall my software.  This time, the computer claimed that it could not reactivate (although it did install without problem!) because my serial number is wrong.  Which is not true.  Adobe was as unhelpful for me as for anyone else using CS2, simply repeating that CS2 does not work on Vista, I should buy the new version, then closing the case.
Can any of you serious techies (I am 65 and techie only for those over 60!) help me with a workaround?  Did I need to de-activate my earlier installation on the same computer?  I am totally lost!
Thanks for your consideration,
Best regards,
Barbara Landy

To install on Vista follow the following.
Follow these steps:
1. Deactivate if on an old computer and being installed onto new computer
2. Initiate install of CS2 onto new computer or same computer
3. When prompted where to place the program in the specified folder provided, don't select okay right away....before you do, delete the parentheses from the (x86) or whatever number it gives you within the parentheses, then continue as usual.
4.  Continue installing as usual.
I found this in the forms and followed the instructions to just remove the parentheses and the install worked.  I installed C2 on a Vista 64 bit HP

  • CS2 non-activation link fault

We have CS2 Photoshop which we uninstalled on one computer and reinstalled onto a second computer. We are having issues with activating it on the new computer. I downloaded the link which allows you to use CS2 without activating it, and used the new serial number alongside the link but am still unable to use Photoshop. A message keeps coming up telling me to enter in a valid serial number. I have entered in the serial number from the website several times and get the same message. Please can someone help with this?!

  • Flash CS3 Activation in Vista Business 32bit

I'm posting this here since I just don't know what else I can
do... Flash customer service seems to be clueless.
We have a volume license for 10 installs of Flash CS3 Pro.
We've installed 2 of these already on XP machines without any
problems at all. Next, I tried to install it on my 32bit version of
Vista Business. I've ran into issues here, and I had to download
the file from adobe in order for it to install properly (it would
not install from the DVD). In any case, I've got Flash CS3
    installed on the Vista machine.
However, when I try to activate it using the serial number
provided, I get an error screen that says "Too Many Activations"
and it points me to where I can buy another key or enter a
different serial number. At first, we thought there was something
wrong with our license, but since then, two other people have
installed Flash CS3 on their XP machines using the same license,
and none of them have a problem. However, each time I try to
activate under Vista, I get the "Too Many Activations" error.
We've contacted the volume licensing department, and they
decided it was not a volume licensing error and gave us a phone
number of their tech support. We next called the tech support
department, and after many transfers, uninstalls, reinstalls, etc,
technical support decided it was not a technical issue and sent us
to the activation department. We then called the activation
department and they told us they do not deal with volume licenses,
and sent us back to the volume licensing department!
It seems pretty clear that Adobe has no clue how to fix this
issue, and no department is willing to even take a serious look at
it. On our final call to the volume licensing department, we spoke
for a while and they told us this issue will take a bit longer to
fix and that they will call us within two days. It has been 5 days
now, and it seems Adobe has decided to ignore us. This is extremely
    frustrating.
If anyone has ran into this issue when attempting to activate
under Vista, and has a workaround, could you please post something
about it here? Thank you very much.

Here is a little update for anyone who may be experiencing
    the same issue...
I was able to find the phone activation screen. In the screen
shot I posted above, you can click next while having the first
option selected. It will go to another screen that allows you to
select phone activation via "other activation options" link (or
    something similar).
    However...
I attempted to activate over the phone. The phone activation
failed, and I spoke to a person who determined that this is not an
activation issue. I was then transferred to the volume licensing
department (sound familiar? scroll up), and they said they do not
deal with activation, and transferred me back to the activation
department. The activation department again said it was not an
activation issue, and they attempted to transfer me back to the
licensing department... after I complained that they just keep
bouncing me back between the same departments, they again said that
they will escalate the issue, and will call me back (the EXACT same
response I received several days ago when I spoke to them). So,
again, I'm waiting for a phone call back from Adobe which will
    probably never come. Good luck!

  • CS2 Mac activating problem

I use a Mac G4 OS Leopard. My hard disk died on me, and my applications were on that disk. I can't de-activate the CS on that HD. I have two other HDs on the computer, so I installed the CS on one of the extra HD but the problem is that I can't activate the CS on the extra HD. It says the serial and name don`t match. I have had my HD die on me one other time and I was able to install CS2 in a new HD and activate it, but I'm unable to activate it this time. The HD that died prompted me that the disk is not repairable so quickly save the date you need to save. I saved what I needed to, but that's all. I'm not sure I should try to re-format the HD that died and install the CS on that HD, because if it doesn't work I will have wasted a day on a useless HD. I hope someone out there can HELP.

    Hi
Thank you for asking . It just says that my name and serial # don`t match,
illustrator does not even open this morning I tried PS and the activating
page came on saying the usual thing that I have a 30 day grace period if I
    don`t activate right away.
I know CS2 is old but it really is the best environment for my work and for
    the time being
I want to keep it that way, at least for awhile still .
I have this CS2 installed in my laptop also, is it maybe the software
thinks I have installed it into to many computers, because the on on the
messed up HD is not de-activated.
So I am planning to re formate my messed up HD and see if it is still
usable, but I am afraid it might only be temporarily and have to go through
    the whole process again.
I really need help this is work and deadline don`t wait.
Thanks it is good to know Adobe cares cause your call centre was not
helpful and brushed me off, and this was a international call cause I am
located in Japan. The CS in english version so Adobe Japan said  they can`t
    help.

  • Adobe CS2 Installation,  activation and using

Adobe Sucks!  Now that I have got that out of my system! Yes it is my Fault!  Here is the problem.
Adobe makes great products that are over priced.  (Creative Suites-$2500.00 Retail even upgrades)
CS2, Yes it is an older version.  Still is a fine product.  Original computer that had CS2 installed, finally bit the dust and went to Electronic waste recycle.  New computer (Windows XP Sp3-Got Windows XP just to run Adobe CS2)
Installation of SW completed wiht no errors.  Installation activation complete with no errors.  Run In Design - "Personalize Your Software" window appears and asks for input of serial number.  Input serial number (as on Box, CD, etc.) error message states "Serial number entered is not Valid. Please check and re-enter"  It is correct and valid serial number.  program closes.  When runing Photoshop first screen appears with error box stating "Photo Shop can not find valid Serial Number"  Same serial number entered during installation and activation of software package.  Called Adobe on phone - on hold for 1.5 hours listening to elevator music.  Contacted on line chat for help.  They said that the problem could be resolved only  on the phone.  Called on  phone again.  This time was able to talk to Adobe Technical Rep.  All I heard was "CS2 is to old and not supported by Adobe".  Buy a new package ($2,500.00) again.  No discount for upgrade.  No on line Adobe support, No phone Adobe support, Sorry for the inconvience Adobe Support.  Can anyone help make Adobe CS2 work?  or Do I throw it away and write off Adobe as a Software company and find someone else?

It refers to XP 64 but holds for Vista 64.
I don't remember CS2 but I don't recall InDesign being included in the web suite...It was part of the web bundle with Design and Macromedia Studio.

  • InDesign CS2 not exporting PDF (Vista)

I just got a new desktop computer at work with Windows Vista Business. Unfortunately there was not budget for the CS4 upgrade, so after reinstalling the Adobe Creative Suite 2 and copying over all my preferences and pdf job files, I thought I was all set to go. I loaded all my pdf .joboption files, locating the temp folder I copied them into and loading through InDesign (File | Adobe PDF Presets | Load), and then proceeded to try to export a PDF. Nothing happened. I know there is nothing wrong with my .joboption files because I've used them at work and used them at home (both WinXP systems) up until the very last day that I got my new computer setup.
I was able to export a PDF using the default .joboptions that came with InDesign. So, I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm guessing it's something to do with Vista, perhaps the location or a file setting or something. Has anyone run into this and how do I fix it? This is impacting my work and it is highly critical that I fix it,  ASAP. Please help.
    thanks,
    Kathleen

Unfortunately I am well aware that CS2 is not supported on Vista and that I am flying in the dark here. So far as day 1 goes, I am not experiencing any issues with InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator yet, with the exception of the PDF export issues. I have a couple ideas about that though, so hopefully I get it resolved soon.

  • CS2 future activation ?

When I bought Photoshop CS2 I understood that when Adobe withdrew support ie when two further editions were available that Adobe would make software activation available. Is there a special site/program for this ? I use Photoshop as a hobby and its purchase was a signicant sum to me, and I cannot afford later editions nor do I need their extra options.
While companies need to protect themselves against piracy, their customers need to feel they can continue using an asset they have payed for.

From what I have read there is no longer a 20 activation/deactivation limit set and has been lifted. As long as you deactivate the software before you remove it or update your system you are fine. As long as the serial number is valid and your connected to the net it should work. Now if you use both activations on two seperate computers and you fail to deactivate the one then you will have to call in to have it activated.
Adobe will not give free tech support for software problems or install problems for CS3, CS2 on down. Same thing will happen with CS4 when CS5 comes out (maybe? who knows)

  • CS2 Repeated Activation request

I have an old install of CS2 on my machine as well as the newer CS3 install. I do some teaching and so like to go back to CS2 on occasion to get screen shots for people to show them what a dialog looks like, etc. The first time I tried using CS2 after installing CS3, I got a license issue error dialog box and it just quit. The next time, I got a license / activation dialog, which went to a reactivate dialog, then a register dialog. All seemed to work fins and CS2 worked again. Now however, I get the Activation error and the second reactivate dialog each time I start CS2. This doesn't seem to have any impact on my CS3 install.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Thanks

    Mac Pro 2x2.66,1GBram

    CS2 standard
    hello,
I hope I'm just overlooking something.
I want to transfer activation of CS2 standard to another mac.
When I launch InDesign, go to Help>Transfer Activation the command is dimmed and cannot be selected.
How do I undim it? The CS2 product was correctly activated and has been in use for over a year.
    Thanks,

    Buko,
That could be it. I believe it a group license.
I will proceed with the installation on the other Mac, see if any hiccups occur.

  • InDesign CS2 crashes on boot (Vista)

    Hi there
I have just installed InDesign on this machine, and as soon as it tries to initialize, I get "Adobe InDesign CS2 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
When I try and start ID again, it searches for a solution, and then loops back to the same error message.
    Can anyone offer a solution?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there
I had already set that up, and it had no effect, but Ive just gone back into the properties, and disabled visual effects. InDesign launched with this error:
the installer seems to have written the wrong AUM Application ID
But then seemed to run fine... Ill test it with a couple of jobs, and hope for the best.

  • CS2 Download & Activation

It is some years since I purchased CS2 for my business but had registered with Adobe and recorded my Serial Number within my account.
The PC on which CS2 has been running for all that time has just died and I have had to replace it. But I can't find the CS2 discs and so I have looked online for a copy of CS2 that I can download - shouldn't be any legal issues as I own a licence?
anyway I found what appeared to be a legitimate download and put it onto my PC. The welcome screen asks whether I want to load the 30day demo or whether I have a licence and, if so, requires the serial number. So I go onto my Adobe account, copy the serail number into the welcome screen and immediately receive the message 'Serial Number Invalid'. The speed of this respone suggests to me that the 'Serail Number Invalid' check is being done locally on my PC rather than my contacting Adobe. Could it be that my Serail Number is a UK one and the program that I have dowloaded is rejecting the format?
How can I obtain a UK copy of CS2 that will accept the Serial Number recorded on my Adobe account? I even have my original purchase receipt for the software and so can prove ownership.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Chris

Yes, there are different ones for different regions and different licensing models and they all have different serial number ranges, but which one fits your needs is really impossible to tell if you haven't made any note of it or at least the invoice that lists the package code. So rather than spending endless days searching and downloading Mexican, Japanese or whatever installers from shady sites on the Internet that will not help you at all, do the sensible thing: call your local support, have them tell you which installer you need based on your serial, then ask around locally at companies that may use Adobe products, on your hometown's Facebook group or whatever if someoen would be willing to borrow his install media/ make a copy....

  • Question about CS2 on Windows Vista 64 bit

Hi! I am having the following problem with trying to use CS2 on a new machine running Windows Vista (64bit). Can anyone shed some light or suggest a solution? Thanks!
I recently tried to install my CS2 suite on an HP G70t, running 64-bit Windows Vista. I installed, uninstalled, and installed again the CS2 suite. The installation goes OK, but when I start the programs, Illustrator simply shuts down, InDesign gives an error message that the serial number is invalid, and Photshop gives the followng error message: "Your Photoshop username, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application
cannot continue and must now exit. " I verfied my activation and registration with a phone call to HP Customer Service --these are fine. I tried to use the Adobe web support, but they refuse to provide any assistance for CS2.

Thanks, Michael. I had read in one of the Adobe documents that although CS2
didn't support Vista, it had been reported that it did upload and work with
minimal problems. Perhaps that just isn't true.
    Appreciate your response.
