CS2 Upgrade

I am thinking of purchasing a copy of Adobe CS2 on Ebay, but am not sure if I will be able to install it. I own Adobe Photoshop 5.5 and Illustrator 8. Will these be sufficient for an upgrade to CS2, or is the first version of Adobe CS needed to upgrade to CS2?
Thanks,
Paul

My experiences with Ebay and Craigs List have been the opposite of what you both have suggested here. I did look on Craigs List for my area and came across two sellers who were blatantly selling pirated software. Just because the person lives in your area doesn't mean they can't sell you pirated software. You can purchase software from a garage sale in your neighborhood that the person may have pirated. So should it be assumed that everyone selling software on Craigs list, or at a garage sale, or Ebay for that matter, is selling pirated software? No. One just needs to be aware that they are out there and watch for signs of an illegal sale.
This still doesn't answer my original question: Will Adobe CS2 install on my computer if I own Photoshop 5.5 and/or Illustrator 8 (both legitimately purchased from an online reseller)?

  • Windows 7, problems with Photoshop CS2 upgrade install

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I seem to have outsmarted myself.  Ever since version 5 I've bought the upgrade... well, now I no longer have the original version 5 disk and can no longer install and use either my CS or CS2 version.  While I do have a backup copy of my old version 5 CD copied onto my hard drive it will not install on Win7 and the CS2 upgrade doesn't recognize the backup as a valid upgrade.
When I try to install version 5 I get an error message to the effect that it's incompatable with Windows 7.  Trying to install either CS or CS2 and I get a "valid upgrade not found" error... if I let it install anyway in trial mode once it's done installing I get a "trial period is over, enter serial number".  I enter my serial number for the version I'm installing and I get "invalid serial number"  Invalid?  It's the number on the back of the CD case verified 10 times.
Am I hosed or will I have to go back to Windows XP?  I've paid for the Photoshop CS upgrade and the CS2 upgrade over the years but neither will install and run since I cannot install the last full version I own.
At the moment I'm having to use my laptop for all my photoshop work since it's still running XP and so it has a functional version of Photoshop.

    It works fine.
Right click on the "setup.exe" file on the CS2 install disc and then click on "properties", then click on the "compatibility" tab.
Click on the box for "Run this in compability mode" and in the pull down select "XP sp2".
    Click "apply" and then "ok".
Now go back to "setup.exe" and click on "Run as administrator" and CS2 should load fine.

  • Trouble installing cs2 upgrade in Windows 7 64 bit

I have recently bought a new computer and I am transferring programs.  I have deactivated cs2 on my old computer.  I am trying to install it on my new computer with OS windows 7 64 bit.  The CS2 is an upgrade from adobe Photoshop 5.02.  When I try to install the cs2 upgrade it asks for validation of ownership of Photoshop 5.02.  It does not recognize the cd when I put it in the cd player.  I have not been able to install Photoshop 5.02 onto my new computer using the cd (even when I use the compatibility trouble shooter and change settings to xp service pack 2. I have transfered the 5.02 over to my new computer via USB and can even run it.  However, CS2 upgrade will not recognize 5.02 even when I browse to the program folder.  Any other thoughts or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Find the registry keys for the program on your old machine, export them to a file, import them on the new system. regedit is your friend. Should be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe somewhere...

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade to CS4 Upgrade with CS4 trial version

    Hello,
today I bought the PS CS4 Upgrade (Win). The shipping will take 7 days so I asked myself if it is possible to upgrade my "CS2 Upgrade version" (from PS 6 full version) to CS4 by using the trail version.
    Dear Forum,
do you have a step by step guidance about that issue?
    Thanks!

Theoretically you should be able to do it, but I would advise against it because there are so many installation problems reported, especially with trials.
You have waited since September for CS4, so hang on for another 7 days and install the upgrade direct from the DVDs.

  • "Invalid Serial Number" - Photoshop CS2 (Upgrade)

Hello, I got the Photoshop CS2 Upgrade some years back and it has always worked fine. Whenever I needed to reinstall my operating system, it was a simple matter of deactivating the software and then activating it after reinstalling Windows.
However ths week, after reinstalling my Windows 7, I was informed that the Adobe CS2 activation server is no longer available, so I couldn't activate my CS2 that was installed from my CD. I read all about it on this website, and followed the instructions to download Photoshop CS2 directly from the website.
Now that I am installing the CS2 that I downloaded from here, I am being told that my serial number is "invalid". I have entered it correctly. It is very frustrating, the software on my CD has never given any problems in upgrading my Photoshop CS to CS2, but the one I downloaded is a pain. I would appreciate it if someone could help me resolve this problem.

Are you trying to install the one in the following link that doesn’t need activation if you use the serial number also supplied at the link, below, or some other one?  “Downloaded from the website” and “downloaded from here” aren’t very precise:

  • Can i purchase and CS2 upgrade, or do I have to buy new

I have CS2 and need to upgrade to Maverick.  Can i purchase and CS2 upgrade, or do I have to buy new

Adobe does not provide upgrades for CS2 applications, nor a special introductory offer for Creative Cloud Membership, unless you have at least CS3.
If you also use Adobe Photoshop, InDesign or at least two other Adobe CC applications, you'd get an Adobe Creative Cloud Membership, which will cost U$49.99 a month.  .
Alternatively if you only use Adobe Illustrator, you can get a single-app plan for U$19.99 a month.
Both those prices are based on you locking in for an anual plan.

  • Upgrade to CS4: from CS2 upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full

Ok, I've decided to go to CS4 from CS2 on my Intel Mac.  Yeah I bought CS2 unknowingly for my Intel Mac and have not been happy with the performance.
Are there any special install procedures for doing a fresh install of CS4 upgrade on Snow Leopard 10.6 (not that it really matters that it is 10.6 vs. 10.5), with CS2 Upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full?
If I remember correctly I had to call Adobe when I went from Photoshop 3.0 to CS2 with the Upgrade disc.
How might the install process go?

    Web logic should upgrade first

  • Can not reinstall Photoshop cs2 upgrade

I physically changed my hard drive and thought I had copied all relevant files, but I know have to reinstall CS2 upgrade and it is looking for my old serial number.  I have the Photoshop 5.5 discs, but not the past serial numbers. How can I now install the CS2?

  • Cannot Reinstall Photoshop CS2 Upgrade

I am migrating to a new Win7 computer. I have a Photoshop CS2 upgrade CD, but the installer wants to find an older version on the hard drive. I no longer have older versions (stretching back to 3.0). I had to replace a bad hard drive last year and was able to pull this off then, but I can't recall how.
    Any ideas?

  • Activat CS2 upgrade to new computer

    Hi
I have CS, CS2 & Photoshop 4. All with serial numbers registered for me.
I bought the first CS full version several years ago and then purchased CS2 and Photoshop 4 as upgrades.
Last year the computer that I had all this software on died! I bought a new computer and started to install the software on my new computer.
CS went on without any problems. I then installed the CS2 upgrade and it said that I had a 30-day trial period? Which I thought was strange as I had the retail packaging for the CS2 and serial number. From what I remember I downloaded the CS2 first of all and then bought the package in the box with its serial no. to use it. A few years later I purchased the Photoshop 4 upgrade and have been using it since.
When I installed the CS2 it told me I had to activate it which I tried to do but it told me that activation for this software is now unavailable. I tried to phone Adobe directly but I did not get very far as the said they no longer supported it. I have not attempted to install the Photoshop 4 because I don't think I can install it without the CS2 installed.
Every time I try to open CS2 it just say's that my 30-day trial period is over. The CS still works fine.
I have purchased all the above software in retail packaging from the correct channels, i.e. not copies of anybody else's! I am simply trying to install software that I have purchased onto my new computer and I have all the correct packaging and serial numbers, which are registered with Adobe for me to use.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks,
    Adrian.

    I have CS, CS2 & Photoshop 4.
Do you mean Photoshop 4 or Photoshop CS4?
I have not attempted to install the Photoshop 4 because I don't think I can install it without the CS2 installed.
You don't need a prior version installed in order to install an upgrade. Just install the upgrade (even on a computer which has never previously had any Adobe software installed), enter the upgrade serial number and then enter the serial number from the earlier qualifying version (even if that was an upgrade).
    But which Photoshop 4?

  • Installing Photoshop CS, then CS2 upgrade on Windows 7

I have a new computer with Windows 7 pre-installed and activated.  What is the correct proceedure to install Photoshop CS (full version), then the CS2 upgrade?  I would like to then upgrade to CS4 to take advantage of the Windows 64-bit capabilities.  Is this the right pathway, or do I need to purchase a new full version of CS4?
    Thank you for your help.

I think it is possible to upgrade from CS2 to CS4, yes. However there is no need to install CS or even CS2 before CS4 i don't think. You can just install them as long as you can proove you have the old one through the old serial number or somthing to that effect. Also, be awear that CS and CS2 are not supported by Adobe on Windows 7 as they have not been tested and may have problems running correctly. CS3 and CS4 are supported though. I personally wouldn't worry much about having issues with CS and CS2 though as as far as i know, no one seems to have many problems, and i also know that Photoshop 7 works just fine on Windows 7 too.

  • Using CS2 Upgrade under Win 8

I originally purchased Adobe Photoshop v3.5 and then upgraded to 4, 5, 6 and CS2.  I have a valid serial number for my CS2 upgrade disc but need help installing this under Windows 8 on a Lenovo Y510P laptop.  When installing the upgrade CD. it asks for a valid installation of Photoshop but the v3.5 CD will no longer install.  I'd like to continue using Photoshop but I am not interested in the monthly subscription model.  Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You won't be able to use your original photoshop cs2, because the adobe activation servers for cs2 have been taken offline.
Download a new non activation version from here:

  • Can I upgrade my photoshop cs2 upgrade to cs5?

I bought a photoshop CS2 upgrade to the original photoshop. I'd like to upgrade that photoshop cs2 to photoshop cs5. I just want to confirm that this is a valid upgrade path?

What is "various vendors"? I'd be extremely careful with that. Unless you can be 100% sure this is an authorized reseller selling of his remaining CS5 packages, this may be fraud. Counterfeited packages that were replicated so perfectly they looked like the real deal have been around for a while...

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems

I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
"You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Have the bugs of using with Vista been fixed, or still not working? thanks,
I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
What problems?  I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular).  CS3 and CS4 worked well as well.  Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.

  • How can I install my CS2 upgrade to my new macbook pro?

Help! I have a new Macbook pro and an old upgrade of CS2 photoshop (upgraded from Photoshop 6). I bought these two for a PC and was told in the Mac shop that I could run them on my fancy new machine..........apparently not, it won't install classic photoshop 6 as presumably it's too old. I also have CS2 Indesign but can't find the install button to press for that either......Am I screwed? I can't afford new programmes.

CS2 is the oldest version that can be upgraded to CS5. You may want to do that now before you lose the opportunity when CS6 comes out. You can upgrade and crossgrade to CS5 for Mac.
    Another thought...
I run CS2 for Windows on Linux through Wine. It works fine. You could probably install Wine on Mac and do the same.
The salespeople might have been referring to running your Windows software on Mac with a virtual machine... with the help of such apps as VMWare Fusion or Parallels. These let you run Windows on top of Mac OS X without rebooting into a Windows partition. See the marketing line: "It Runs Windows Too".
