CS2 usability

Hello,
Last december I purchased Photoshop CS6 from a reseller and I use this on my main OS (Win7 x64). I have an old Photoshop CS2 installer with the product key (which now doesn't work as the activation server has been disabled). Can I use this old PS CS2 on Virtual WinXp system? So, can I use the CS2 installer and serial from this page: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html? (And I hope, Adobe doesn't bundle a spyware in this version for download, right?)
Thanks.

That's the intent of that published version - to allow people with legitimate CS2 licenses who need to be able to run CS2 but can no longer activate it with their original serial numbers.

  • CS2 license config data not usable after upgrade to Tiger

    When I upgraded to Tiger from 10.3.9, I did an archive and install. Now I can't run any CS2 apps...I get the error "The license configuration data for Adobe Creative Suite is no longer usable.", then it wants to activate.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi, Scott.
    See "Troubleshoot activation problems (Acrobat 7.0, Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 on Mac OS X)."
    FYI: I suggest whenever you have problems with third-party applications, the first place to start troubleshooting is with the application's documentation, then vendor's web site. Usually their sites have FAQs, lists of known bugs, or application-specific forums similar to these Discussions. Sometimes, unlike the Apple Discussions, the questions are even answered by employees of the vendor.
    For example, in the case of your problem, the item above was found with one search of the Adobe Support knowledge base for "license configuration data" with product Photoshop.
    Good luck!

  • Adobe photoshop cs2 download on adobe website does not work-  the serial number does not work?

    photoshop cs2 download on adobe website does not work - the serial number given isn't recognised when you enter it when trying to install. the live chat at adobe cannot help and suggested that I may find the answer here. Can anyone help with this?

    Adobe has decommissioned the CS2 activation servers, so your old serial number is no longer usable.
    If you download the special non-activating version of CS2 that Adobe has made available to licensed CS2 users, you MUST also use the new serial number provided by Adobe on that download page:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2_downloads
    That S/N does work.  I double checked.

  • Photoshop CS2 activation issues

    I recently had to purchase a new hard drive for my computer and had to reinstall my copy of Photoshop CS2.  It will not activate or allow me to use it.  The Adobe website shows the product is registered to me...so I see no reason for all this trouble.  I have spend hours trying to reinstall from the original CD as well as trying from the Adobe website.  I am currently one frustrated person who is VERY upset with Adobe at this point.  If this is their way of telling me to buy a newer version of their product - it will NEVER happen.
    Any usable input would be greatly appreciated.  This is certainly holding up my photo work.  Thank you in advance!!

    The activation servers for all CS2 applications are gone now, but Adobe has made activation free versions of the CS2 apps available here, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l.

  • CS2 won't run

    CS2 won't run, says activation code no longer usable. Been running win7 on this system 3 years. Adobe says it won't activate in win7. Well, it did, and ran just fine. what's up?

    I assume when you say "Adobe says it won't activate in win7" that you talked to customer support....
    A drive change could trigger the need for reactivation.  Did you tell them that you're running from a mirrored drive?
    It sounds to me that they're being aggressive about trying to get you to upgrade when they should still be supporting you with active maintenance of their activation database.
    But unfortunately if you can't get them to adjust their database you're out of luck.

  • Bridge CS2: Scripting metadata w/o XMPScript?

    Hi,
    I need to get at strcutured data types (bag and alt) and I can't figure out how to do this in CS2, or if it's even possible. I've looked at the sample code in the scripting guide, but it doesn't seem to be of use. Here's what I've tried so far to get the first element in the alt structure xmpRights:UsageTerms field (labeled x-default):
    var tn = new Thumbnail(fileName);
    var md = tn.synchronousMetadata;
    md.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/";
    var rights = md.UsageTerms;
    Window.alert(rights["UsageTerms/xmpRights:x-default"]);
    Any suggestions?

    John,
    I think you are misunderstanding two things about the Bridge Metadata object and XMP.
    First, the Metadata object will return only Strings, not objects that represent nodes in the XMP data model.
    Second, the xpath syntax you are trying to use to access the x-default member of the array is incorrect.
    Try a script like the following:
    #target bridge
    var thumb = app.document.selections[0];
    var md = thumb.synchronousMetadata;
    try {
    md.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/";
    var usageTerms = md["UsageTerms[@xml:lang='x-default']"];
    $.writeln( usageTerms );
    md["UsageTerms[@xml:lang='x-default']"] = "Changed";
    } catch( e ) {
    $.writeln( e );
    This may be a usable workaround for you if you need to deploy scripts that run on CS2 and cannot use XMPScript.
    If you can I recommend using CS3 to develop the scripts for CS2 because it has some tools that may make your job easier. First, you can use utiltiy functions in XMPScript like XMPUtils.composeLanguageSelector() to create well-formed xpaths to use in your CS2 scripts. Second in Bridge CS3 exceptions thrown by the XMP toolkit when the Metadata object tries to get a property (ex: when a script calls var foo = md["bogus/xpath"]) will be reflected as JavaScript exceptions with the error message from the internal C++ exception. If, for example, the property name or namespace URI are bad, it's now much easier for the script writer to determine what is wrong than it was in CS2. This is one of my favorite, unsung new features in CS3.

  • Use eps files  in a 2' x 6' banner designed in CS2 Illustrator.

    I have two eps files (logos) I'd like to use in a 2' x 6' banner. The rest of the banner will use text. How can I incorporate these eps files? I'm using CS2 Illustrator. Thanks for your help.

    yourself,
    If the .eps artwork is vector, there should be no resolution issue (depending on possible raster effects/images contained).
    You can see whether it is raster or vector when you select (an embedded version of) it. Vector will appear as other vector artwork.
    Is Anti-Aliased ticked in the Edit>Preferences>General?
    Concerning the pixelation/usability, you may judge by using different zoom levels.
    You may ask the recipient about resolution.

  • Photoshop CS2 and Blackbook

    I am about to buy the black macbook and I have photoshop CS2, will it run on this computer?
    Thanks.

    Yes it works fine. It runs best with more ram and is a little slow compared to CS3 but it is usable.

  • Need help adjusting colors in  Photoshop (CS2)

    I'm not a neither a novice nor a pro when it comes to Photoshop. (Just somewhere in-between) . . . So don't understand why  I''m suddenly having problems with colors in my photos looking accurate  on my canera, but almsot  completely red and yellow in Photoshop. Initially though the camera was at fault, until I switched cameras  and still had the same problem, so figured itmust be  Photoshop.
    Since  Photoshop CS2 has all the features I need,  I've never bothered to upgrade. . . which turned out to be a problem when I tried to follow the instructions for creating  new adjustment layers. (Was OK until I reached the last step, when  my menus were different than  those in the guide.) Have spent  most of the last 2 days trying to manipulate all the options  under the Image Adjustment menu, but am running our of patience and luck.
    The problem seems to have been increasing in recent  weeks (or months), but this is the first time I've been absolutely stumped and unable to  come up with a usable solution.

    Thanks. But it looks like in all my frustration, I wasn't  sure  my original call for help had posted, so must have  submitted the same question again.
    But I just had a new thought on the problem. While reviewing a story I received from another website,  I noticed that the photos attached to the article  looked  a lot like  what I described  in my  message. It made me wonder if I have a software problem at all . . . or if it's the screen on my Mac that needs recalibration!
    It only took 2 minutes to find a website that discussed it — with sample screens to help determine if that was what I'm dealing with. Since a screen supposedly showing a mix of numbered, grey boxes looked totally white to me and I could only see the white numbers on a screen that supposedly contained boxes in varying shades of black, I think I might be on the right track. Just not sure, since I had to reach the bottom of the page before spotting the pitch for a product that supposedly will recalibrate  for me. I'm not sure I want to tackle recalibration on my own, but may call the Mac Geniuses at our local mall  and see  if my hunch is right . . .and if so, what they would charge to do it for me.
    BTW, if it sounds like a calibration problem, do you think moving my computer  from one desk top another (just 5 feet away) could have caused it? I'm not sure, since it wasn't on my mind at the time, but I think that's roughly when I first started to notice discrepancies in color.

  • XMP data find in CS not in CS2

    Our product uses the XMP SDK version 2.9.  While I would like to upgrade to a more recent version, it is not completely practical for the shipping code.<br /><br />We have encountered a file with XMP data we wrote using this SDK which is then inserted into a jpg file.  The resulting XMP data is completely read by Photoshop CS and by our application MediaBin, but when the same file is read into Photoshop CS2 only a subset of the data (specifcally the URL and the custom tags) appear and the description, for example, does not.<br /><br />Are there known incompatibilities between the older SDK and Photoshop CS2?<br /><br />I append the data (with customer data excised) below.<br /><br />Thanks for any feedback,<br /><br />Lyman Hurd<br />Interwoven, Inc.<br /><br /><?xpacket begin='&#65279;' id='W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d'?><br /><x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="XMP toolkit 2.9-9, framework 1.6"><br />    <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"<br />        xmlns:iX="http://ns.adobe.com/iX/1.0/"><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:xap="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/"<br />            xap:MetadataDate="2006-08-21T19:14:05Z"/><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:xapRights="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/"<br />            xapRights:Marked="True" xapRights:WebStatement="http://www.xxxxximages.com"/><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:mbn="http://ns.interwoven.com/mediabin/1.0/"><br />            <mbn:tag>#MB%:{88E1EC23-B253-4C79-8944-772852879E8F}ILMEDIABIN:%MB#</mbn:tag><br />        </rdf:Description><br />        <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"><br />            <dc:rights><br />                <rdf:Alt><br />                    <rdf:li>Copyright © XXXXX. XMP is a powerful metadata format and I believe that it can be written directly to any mov or mp4 format media but not other formats such as mts. I have also experimented with using Prelude, Bridge, and Premiere to try and tag my footage. The conclusion I came to was that it just isnt worth the effort yet. None of them really communicate with each other very well and the interface for searching metadata (even after painfully inputting it using their metadata panels) is slow and cumbersome. Adobe did great by creating xmp, and lots of highend propriety software solutions for broadcast seem to be using it with custom software but there is nothing at the low end for normal users. Bridge doesn't seem to have been touched in several years. Even Lightroom, which would appear to be Adobe's most natural video tagger/organiser for the prosumer, doesn't create searchable usable tag data for use with Premiere. Right now I would say a good folder structure, using Finder's tag system (if you are on a mac), and spreasdsheets are the best way to work on smaller projects. Just my $2.

  • Edit script to be usable in CS3 (place Specific Asset on Page)

    Can someone help me edit this script to be usable in InDesign CS3
    myLib = app.libraries.item("Library.indl");

    for (j = myFounds.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {

    myLib.assets.item("[SampleLibrary Asset]").placeAsset(app.activeDocument);
    This use to work in InDesign CS2 but it not working in C2.
    I tried placing the script to /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS3/Scripts/Scripts Panel/Version 4.0 Scripts /. But it did not help.

  • [cs2][JS] Search/replace by glyphID

    Hi,
    Does any know to change some special characters by glyphID?
    What I'm trying to do is ...
    app.findPreferences = app.changePreferences = null;
    app.findPreferences.appliedFont = 'ITC Zapf Dingbats\tMedium';
    app.changePreferences.appliedFont = 'ITC Zapf Dingbats Std\tMedium';
    app.activeDocument.search(glyphID=81,undefined,undefined, glyphID=79);
    But it doesn't seem te work
    Tim

    I hope you don't ever expect a keyboard big enough for all characters in your font! A typical, usable text font contains about 220 characters; Minion Pro boasts (.. checking .. please wait) 1397 characters, Arial Unicode MS has 50,377 different ones, and Unicode reference font Code2000 weighs in at a hefty 61,684 characters.<br /><br />The thing you should primarily be interested in is the characters' Unicode value. My modus operandi for replacing <br />i mojibake <br />characters by good ones is this. Select the 'bad' character and copy it. Paste into Find; if it has a unique font applied, fill that in in the Find Format box (so you won't accidentaly replace 'good' characters). Now call up the Glyph panel and find the 'good' character. Hover your mouse over it until the popup appears, showing its Unicode. Remember it :-) (you can't copy "out" of the Glyph panel). Type this number in the Replace field, inbetween <brackets>, like this: <0020> (that's a space). If you filled in a font in the Find format, set the font in the Replace format field to the correct one. Now press "Change all" and you're done, for this character at least.<br /><br />The same approach can be used to enter everything into a script. You can either copy-and-paste the Search character into your script, or select it and check the Info panel; it should display the Unicode, and you can enter it into the Search field inbetween <brackets>, the same way as you did in the Replace field.<br /><br />In CS2 (and CS), the only limitation is that you <br />i cannot <br />enter a different <br />i glyph <br />in the Replace field if your font offers more than one. These extra glyphs are recognizable in the Glyph panel by the little triangle (press to popup the variants), or because they do not show a Unicode value, just a CID. (FYI, "CID" stands for "Character ID", and is most likely just the <br />i n<br />-th glyph number from the start in the font; so nothing useful.)

  • CS2 Mac activating problem

    I use a Mac G4 OS Leopard. My hard disk died on me, and my applications were on that disk. I can't de-activate the CS on that HD. I have two other HDs on the computer, so I installed the CS on one of the extra HD but the problem is that I can't activate the CS on the extra HD. It says the serial and name don`t match. I have had my HD die on me one other time and I was able to install CS2 in a new HD and activate it, but I'm unable to activate it this time. The HD that died prompted me that the disk is not repairable so quickly save the date you need to save. I saved what I needed to, but that's all. I'm not sure I should try to re-format the HD that died and install the CS on that HD, because if it doesn't work I will have wasted a day on a useless HD. I hope someone out there can HELP.

    Hi
    Thank you for asking . It just says that my name and serial # don`t match,
    illustrator does not even open this morning I tried PS and the activating
    page came on saying the usual thing that I have a 30 day grace period if I
    don`t activate right away.
    I know CS2 is old but it really is the best environment for my work and for
    the time being
    I want to keep it that way, at least for awhile still .
    I have this CS2 installed in my laptop also, is it maybe the software
    thinks I have installed it into to many computers, because the on on the
    messed up HD is not de-activated.
    So I am planning to re formate my messed up HD and see if it is still
    usable, but I am afraid it might only be temporarily and have to go through
    the whole process again.
    I really need help this is work and deadline don`t wait.
    Thanks it is good to know Adobe cares cause your call centre was not
    helpful and brushed me off, and this was a international call cause I am
    located in Japan. The CS in english version so Adobe Japan said  they can`t
    help.

  • Keeping layer visibility overrides in CS2

    Hi,
    I apologize if this has been answered before - did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for.
    When using CS4 (6.0.3), I have no problem setting my "object layer option overrides" on a pdf file inside Indesign and having them stick when the pdf is updated.
    The problem comes when I have to use Indesign CS2 on projects.  When setting the over rides everything looks fine but when I use illustrator to make some changes to the pdf and refresh the link in Indesign, all the layers are shown and the "keep layer visibility over rides" does not do what it is supposed to do.  I have it set to only show 2 of 3 layers and the smallest change to the pdf file and a subsequent update to the link will always reset all the layers to show.  Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    From what I can tell, Illustrator CS2 does not export usable layer info. So apparently they didn't test if layer overrides would work correctly.
    It is kind of interesting that an Illustrator CS3/4 file has usable layer info in InDesign CS2, but you're correct that the layer overrides seem broken by any update to the file...

  • InDesign CS4 to reinstall after a system crash. I have bought CS4 some years ago in order to update InDesign CS2. Of course, I have my S/N for CS4 but, during the reinstallation process, I have to give the S/N of InDesign CS2 wich is lost !

    I'm unable to reinstall InDesign CS4 which was bought as an update of an old InDesign CS2. I have the serial number of CS4 but I have lost the S/N of CS2 which is required.

    Hi,
    Thanks a lot for your answer. In fact, I’ve really registered CS2 in 2002 (october 14th). But I guess that, at this time, my email address was [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> which is no more presently usable.
    So, when the installation program of CS4 requires the S/N of CS2 (because my CS4 was an update of a preceding CS2, I’ve an answer (1037-0225-5711-8675-6584-4525) but this answer is not considered as correct by the program.
    I guess this change of mail adress is the reason why I don’t find, on my personal file on Adobe, any information about Indesign CS4 (S/N : 1037-0005-3808-1893-0944-6511) nor PhotoShop CS5 (S/N : 1330-0000-7535-1483-5980-1567).
    Thanks
