CS3.3 vs. CS3

What are the reasons for upgrading to Master Collection CS 3.3 from Master Collection CS 3, besides getting Acrobat ? Any other significant change or addition ?

That's the ONLY reason.

  • Dreamwaver CS3 & Flash CS3 or GoLive 9 on Mac?

I have a PowerBook G4 with 10.5.2 on it. I am wanting to do
more interactive website design so I was looking at DW & Flash
but I have used GL 9. I have used DW MX 2004 but I did not like it
at the time. I am more of a visual type person so I prefer being
able to use the design over having to do a lot of code. I want
something that saves time because I run a small business and so web
deisigning as much as I like to do it, is not my only job.
I have been looking through all the forums and trying to
weigh the pros and cons but I am getting really confused. With all
the problems that people are talking about with DW CS3 and Lepard
is it worth it... on the other hand I have been reading that some
are not having any problems with DW CS3 on macs.
If I go with DW CS3 should I get the flash program to go with
it? or can I do an interactive site with out that?
As far as GoLive 9 goes, I like it, but will it do what I
want it to when it comes to having interactive sites and ease of
    use in designing?
Some adobe programs I have/use, are photoshop CS2,
    Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, & ImageReady CS2 (I understand
PhotoShop & Illustartor the best and have only dabbled with the
others.). Will they work with the DW CS3, Flash CS3 & GoLive 9?
and if they do how well with each of them?
I'm still a beginner in many ways with web design and using
the adobe programs so I would greatly apreciate your help on
figuring out witch direction to go in. I don't want to spend a lot
of money on something and then not like it and have to go find
    something else.
    Please Help!

You have to switch the focus back to the application and then
to the test window. Evidently between Flash MX04 (the one I have to
test) and CS3, they made it so that just clicking in the AS editor
window doesn't return the focus to the application. In that case
the Testing Environment intercepts the apple-enter and just
    re-tests the already compiled version.
If you click the application window, then click the
actionscript window, it will recompile the swf. However I
personally don't find apple-w to close the window so
    onerous.

  • AE CS3: Bridge CS3 Causes AE CS3 to Crash on Open

I just wanted to post something here to help out anyone who is running Windows Vista 64-bit with Production Premium CS3.
Both AE CS3 & Bridge CS3 work fine - however when I have bridge open first and then launch after effects, after effects constantly crashes on the title screen.
After looking for several fixes for this, I tried closing bridge. After that I was able to launch AE CS3 just fine. I can then re-open bridge and both programs run just fine.
Another one of those weird quirks. Hope this helps someone out.

Did you try it again?  Just because it crashed once doesn't necessarily mean it will crash every time.

  • Photoshop 7 vs CS3 and CS3 enhanced

Hi I love my PS 7, but my new Mac Pro doesn't so I am FORCED once again to upgrade. Can anyone please tell me that has made the jump whether I should go for CS3 or CS3 enhanced. Is the enhanced that much better and worth the extra $? Or is CS3 like the PS 7 limited edition and CS3 enchanced just the logical upgrade to Photoshop. Thanks for the help. I'm leaning towards the plain CS3 due to the high cost of the Mac Pro and did not realize that PS 7 WOULD NOT RUN, STATED UNIVERSAL BINARY and that is why we made the jump. arrrggghh thanks adobe. sorry for venting.

    >arrrggghh thanks adobe.
Why are you mad at Adobe they didn't make the OS that won't run Version 7 Apple did.
Version 7 is six years old now. Do you really believe Adobe knew Apple was going switch over to an Intel chip in 2001 when Photoshop was being developed? Version 7 was a Universal Binary to bridge both OS9 a system Apple declared was dead and the new OSX.
Considering all the hoops Apple has made Adobe jump through over these last few years I'm surprised more software doesn't work. Also the introduction of Leopard has introduced many problems with the remaining Adobe apps. CS1 and 2 will not be supported in Leopard and will not get any Patch fixes. CS3 doesn't work all that well either but at least Adobe is trying to solve the problems created by Apple.
So if you have any animosity to anyone it should be Uncle Steve for not making a compatible OS.

    Hallo,

  • CS3 to CS3 Extended font size change

We are running CS3 on intel Macs (10.5.4) If you open a file saved by this on a G5 (10.4.11) using CS3 Extended, the font size is now incorrect. eg Arial 12pt in CS3 opens as Arial 12.04pt in extended.
    Both CS3 and CS3 extended are 10.0.1
Has anyone else seen this if so how is it prevented.

As far as I know Extended offers several more functions than CS3 and so is a different application. Or is it only addional plug ins ?
    please see:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/compare/
    because of the font issue:
Which filetype do you use, PSD ?
are you saving to a network drive ? if so, please save to an internal HD, then transfer files manully (over the file explorer) to its final place (so, no direct saving to network drives).
Could you check if its actually bigger really ? Maybe its just a display thing, I mean, maybe PS CS3 inernaly has it stored as 12.04 but just shows in the dialog "12". Maybe extended is more exact in that point. So Effictively maybe both are same size actually ?

  • Very slow Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3 performance?

I'm using a MacBook Pro Core Duo 2GHz with 2GB of RAM installed, and I was reasonably hoping that when I installed the CS3 suite, it'd run like a dream.
I've found that when running Photoshop and Illustrator at the same time, with nothing else open but Mail.app and Safari, my MBP grinds to a halt for minutes at a time in mid-project. Switching between programs takes several minutes of beachball-spinning and stopwatch-running. It seems that performance degrades as I work: after working with large files, both programs are so slow as to be unusable until I restart them, or even my Mac.
My RAM is maxed out and I'm using a 500GB drive as an external scratch disk. I can't think of any way to optimize my performance... any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?

Im having the same problem on my MBPro Dual 2.4 17"! However I have had the performance issues before installing the latest Adobe suite. I too belived that purchasing the latest and greatest Apple Adobe guff, that I would have a seriously quick usuable workstation. To be honest I still get better performance from my Old 1.8Ghz G5 iMac with half the ram running the same set of apps. I also have set up for my clients (another studio) 3 brand new Intel iMacs and surprise surprise they too are not kicking the dual G5's they replaced. I hate to say it but I have recently been working on a combination of both my 1.2Ghz WinXP Athlon machine and old iMac and had a far better workflow than waiting for the MacBookto get its act together! Maybe Intel really is not the way to go, as I have also found the Core Duos to NOT multitask very well either! Apple I will never be buying a new Mac again, and don't be surprised if a 17" MacBook Pro ends up on eBay very soon! Jay please let me know if you have found some kind of solution, as running one app at a time (as suggested in a prev post) is not really what we shelled out the $$ for!

  • Illustrator CS3/Photoshop CS3 - how do they work with MS XP64 and MS Vista64?

I am building a new computer and am trying to decide whether to use XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit.
I currently have Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop CS3....but will surely upgrade to CS4 at some point.
What is your recommendation for OS choices I've noted? Any horrible experiences with either?
    Thanks.

CS3 and CS4 run without problems on my 2 year old XP64 machine at work (Dual Xeon, 8GB RAM) and should work even better on Vista 64. Apparently, if you want to use the 64bit version of Photoshop CS4 with working OpenGL, you have no choice in the matter and must use Vista64bit. For the "normal" 32bit version this limitation does not apply and it runs nicely with hardware acceleration on my end (Quadro 5500, needs the "Allow old GPUs" registry hack). Illustrator in that regard should be even less critical, as it does not use any hardware acceleration at this point except for drawing the interface....

  • Update of Premiere CS3 to CS3.2 (Mac)

    Good day friends!
I'm working with MacPro 1.1 (2,66 GHz, 2 Processors, 8 Cores, 10 GB RAM). There is a small internal SSD "HD1" (7 GB free space) for system and a big internal "HD2" (900 GB free) for programs. My registrated Premiere CS3 is a part of my original Master Collection of Adobe CS3 and is installed on HD2.
Because of native codec to Sony PMW-200 cam, it is necessary to install the update "CS3.2". Therefore I loaded down "premiere_pro_3.2.0_update.dmg". Inside of this archiv there is an install programm, named RIBSWrapper. Doubleclick onto it, installing procedure runs but a few of seconds an error window goes up with a measure that the location has not been found.
In believing that the location of Premiere CS3 should not be on not-system-HD perhaps, I installed Premiere CS3 with the original DVDs of Master Collection CS3 on the system HD1. After this I tried to update to CS3.2 again - but the same procedure has been happend as before: Location has not been found.
Does anybody knows what could be the reason for the mistake and what should I do to install CS3.2?
    Thanks for answering!

    (Germany)

    John T.,
Again, for the PC, many users have encountered issues, when installation has been to any drive, but C:\. Often, the Adobe programs will run, but similar to this case, Updating has been an issue. I do not recall any sort of fix, or workaround to that.
However, given the differences between the PC and the Mac, I have no idea if this location difference is the cause of the issue.

  • Mac pro with 16GB RAM for CS3? CS3 cant use more than 3 GB? why

    hi
does it make any sense to buy 16GB RAM for a mac pro
    only for working with CS3?
i am retouching prof. and in the moment we run CS2 on the mac pro.
later CS3 is in the pipeline.
we ordered 16GB RAM in order to work with HDR images and big file sizes coming from hasselblad h2 and h3 (300dpi, 23 x 23inch, round 50 or 100 layers, filesize 1 - 2GB per image.)
    thanks

found this article @ adobe website
    thanks for your help!
"When you run Photoshop CS3 on a 64-bit operating system, such as Mac OS X v10.4 and later, Photoshop can access up to 8 GB of RAM. You can see the actual amount of RAM Photoshop can use in the Let Photoshop Use number when you set the Let Photoshop Use slider in the Performance preference to 100%. The RAM above the 100% used by Photoshop, which is from approximately 3 GB to 3.7 GB, can be used directly by Photoshop plug-ins (some plug-ins need large chunks of contiguous RAM), filters, and actions. If you have more than 4 GB (to 8 GB), the RAM above 4 GB is used by the operating system as a cache for the Photoshop scratch disk data. Data that previously was written directly to the hard disk by Photoshop is now cached in this high RAM before being written to the hard disk by the operating system. If you are working with files large enough to take advantage of these extra 2 GB of RAM, the RAM cache can increase performance of Photoshop.
The default RAM allocation setting in Photoshop CS3 is 70%. These settings should be optimal for most users. To get the ideal RAM allocation setting for your system, change the RAM allocation in 5% increments and watch the performance of Photoshop in the Activity Monitor. You must quit and restart Photoshop after each change to see the change take effect.
The available RAM shown in the Performance preferences has already deducted an amount that is reserved for the operating system from the total RAM in your computer. You shouldn't set the percentage of RAM to be used by Photoshop to 100% (unless you are using more than 2G of RAM) because other applications which run at the same time as Photoshop (for example, Adobe Bridge CS3) need a share of the available RAM. Some applications use more RAM than you might expect. For example, web browsers can use 20-30 MB of RAM, and music players can use 20-50 MB of RAM. Watch the Activity Monitor to view the RAM allocations on your computer.
Watch your efficiency indicator while you work in Photoshop to determine the amount of RAM you'll need to keep your images in RAM. The efficiency indicator is available from the pop-up menu on the status bar of your image or from the Palette Options on the Info Palette pop-up menu. When the efficiency indicator goes below 95-100%, you are using the scratch disk. If the efficiency is around 60%, you'll see a large performance increase by changing your RAM allocation or adding RAM."

  • How can I convert a indesign cs4 document to a cs3 or cs3?

For free!? The older trial versions are not anymore available via the official Adobe channels. Perhaps a google could help.

  • Configuring a MacPro for Photoshop CS3/Lightroom/CS3 Suite usage

After hearing that Leopard is delayed for a few more months, I've decided to go ahead and buy a MacPro now instead of waiting any longer (was going to hold out until after the WWDC in June). There are a couple of important details that I'm unsure about, and wonder if anyone here offer any wisdom about them.
Right now I'm looking at the quad 2.66GHz MacPro. I'm uncertain about how much RAM to add, as I work with large Photoshop files (up to 1GB in size), and will typically have Photoshop CS3 and other CS3 apps running along side of Lightroom, etc. at the same time. How much memory will Photoshop CS3 be able to really utilize, and how much additional memory would the other applications need on top of that? I'm guessing 4-6 GB of RAM total, but would there be any advantage to having more RAM? I'm also unsure about which video card would be sufficient, e.g whether the Radeon X1900 XT is worth it versus the stock GeForce 7300 GT if I don't plan to use Aperture or two 30" monitors? I don't know how the new Adobe apps will respond to more GPU horsepower if at all.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Dual MDD PowerMac 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2GB RAM, lots of storage internal and external

How much memory will Photoshop CS3 be able to really utilize, and how much additional memory would the other applications need on top of that?
Presuming Photoshop CS3 utilizes system memory for caching in the same way that CS2 does then the answer is all of it. It's actually quite clever. For instance, if you have 6GB system memory and 3GB allocated specifically to PS, if PS needs more than that 3GB then it'll ask the Mac OS X memory manager to handle the caching. Mac OS X being as clever as it is will do as best it can and if it's available as RAM it'll provide that.
I'm guessing 4-6 GB of RAM total, but would there be any advantage to having more RAM?
That'll depend on how many applications and processes you like to be running at once. For Photoshop it's fine. I would probably suggest starting with 5GB (4 x 1GB + factory 2 x 512MB) and see how you go.
I'm also unsure about which video card would be sufficient, e.g whether the Radeon X1900 XT is worth it versus the stock GeForce 7300 GT if I don't plan to use Aperture or two 30" monitors?
Currently the Adobe CS3 design (as opposed to the video) applications don't make specific use of the GPU. That does not mean it'll stay like that, especially given Adobe has public said they are looking into doing so (whether it pans out is another matter). You might want to consider it as a "future proofing" although I don't believe it's necessary as of today and CS3.

  • Fireworks CS3 & Illustrator CS3

I'm not sure if this is more an Illustrator problem or a
Fireworks issue, but since I can post here but can't log into the
    Illustrator forum, I'll start here.
I have illustrations created in Illustrator. Black and white
images, and I want the white to be transparent, or rather see-thru
since I don't mean transparency as in opacity. What I want is for
the background to show through the "white" portions of the black
and white illustrations. So, if you have a black circle with a
white triangle in the middle, and put it on a green background, the
black circle will be black and the "white" triangle will be green.
Hopefully, that clarifies what I am trying to do.
So, in Illustrator CS3, I take that illustration and use
"exclude" and "expand" to apply it to the illustration. Seems to
work fine there. If I create a solid-colored square and move it
behind the illustration, the "white" areas show the square's color
    instead of white.
Now, when I open that illustration in Fireworks CS3, I get a
black solid image. No paths where the "white" areas should be. Just
    a solid black area.
Now, if I take that original illustration, open it in
Illustrator 5.5(!), use "exclude," save and then open that modified
file in Fireworks 1.0(!), it works just fine. I can also open that
Illustrator 5.5 file in Fireworks CS3 and it works fine.
Mind you, the illustrations are more complex than a white
triangle in a black circle. But, if Illustrator 5.5 and Fireworks
1.0 can handle them, the CS3 versions ought to be able to handle
    them as well.
Since I would expect that the CS3 versions should be able to
do the same things that the much older versions can do, I can only
assume (and hope!) that I must be doing something wrong. I would
hate to have to save all my Illustrator CS3 files down to
Illustrator 3 files (since CS3 can't save to Illustrator 5), open
them in Illustrator 5.5 and "exclude," then resave them and then
finally open them in Fireworks CS3, especially since that involves
using two Macs, since the Intel Macs don't run Classic. Seems like
I should be able to go direct from Illustrator CS3 to Fireworks
    CS3.
So, what am I doing wrong?

Found it! Compound Path instead of Exclude.

  • Contribute CS3  & Dreamweaver CS3

I do volunteer work for a pet rescue website. I started out
editing their pages with Dreamweaver CS3. When the work load got
out of control, one of the rescue members decided to help out by
using Contribute CS3. After a few months, I noticed there was a lot
of lag loading this one page we were both updating on a daily
    basis.
In Dreamweaver, in design mode, the page appeared to be fine
but when looking at the source code, there were thousands of empty
lines that had been generating for who knows what reason. The
amount of lines was over 50K. I manually went in there and deleted
all the empty lines and ended up with about 600 lines total of
code. Everything was back to normal and my helper continued using
Contribute CS3 and I used DW, until a few days later when I noticed
the blank lines were back. Not as many as there were before but
they were certainly adding up and were definitely adding to the
    loading time.
I did what I could to clean up the code and although there
are some empty lines left at the top of the file, the rest of the
file is ok now. I asked the Contribute helper to not make anymore
updates for the time being. I haven't seen any more blank lines
added since she stopped. So my best guess is that Contribute CS3 is
    causing all the problems.
Is there something in Contribute CS3 publishing preferences
that may be causing this problem? I couldn't find anything in the
manuals except something about Line Breaks but that didn't have
anything to do with the code. Could it also be a server problem?
Not sure where I would begin looking. Any help would be
    appreciated.
Here is a link to the file I am referring to:
    http://www.norcalgsprescue.com/adopt.shtml
    Thanks!

I've had similar issues, but not to the extent you seem to be
getting it. I know if you are using templates or server-side code,
the lines that do not propagage to your web client are removed, but
the source code lines are not collapsed...
Anyway, when I had a similar problem, it would putting an
extra line for each line in the html code... If you are on a
Linux/Unix Web server... go to Administer Website...Edit Role
Settings...Select the 'Editing' option on the left side of the
panel... at the very bottom, make sure 'Line Break Type' is set to
    'Unix (LF)'
    Hope that helps

  • Upgrading from Photoshop CS3 to CS3 Extended

I realize this is old software now, but its the version my company has, and they haven't upgraded...with that...
I installed PS CS3 on a laptop using a volume license.  The user had the Extended version he wanted installed instead. I tried installing it, but couldn't so I uninstalled the CS3 and installed the CS3 extended. It didn't prompt for a license and opened as CS3. So I uninstalled again and cleaned the registry of any Photoshop and CS3 entries, and even search on the serial number. Reinstalled. Still didn't prompt for serial number and opened as CS3.  I installed the Extended on my computer, it initially came up as CS3, but after inputting the Extended serial number it seemed to "unlock" and everything changed to read CS3 Extended. I was able to connect to the Adobe chat and they referred me to tech support.  Called them and they said they no longer support CS3, and to search the knowledge base.

My guess is the script works for the suite but maybe not your individual
    version type.
When you searched for your ser. no., unless you search all of c:\ with a search "within a file" tool, you won't find it.
If it were me (best with an Adobe tech support on line with you), check the registry for anything Adobe Ps CS3...note the info....make a backup file of the registry just in case if needed later for restore.  Be sure to find the ser. no. location.
Un-install CS3 as normal.  Re-check the registry to verify Ps CS3 remnants are gone as compared to above...if not fully removed; remove manually....especially the ser. no.
Then install and PC should ask/offer to insert ser. no. rather than able to find (now deleted) s/n.
