CS3: "Acrobat 8 Pro canot be launched..." message

I'm running CS3, and the Acrobat version is 8.1.3. When using Internet Explorer 8 OR Firefox 3.0.7 (WinXP) I get the following error when viewing Acrobat documents online: "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional." After clicking "OK" the Acrobat document is blanked out.
In searching thru the Adobe site I find that this message is caused by Acrobat not being registered, and that running one of the suite components (i.e., Photoshop) will correct this.
I have had CS3 on my PC for some time now, and run Photoshop almost daily. This error message started appearing recently, so I am wondering what has changed/gone wrong. I know one question for me is what have I changed on the PC recently, but before going into that I thought I'd see if this one has an easy fix. Does it?
Thanks, Don

  • Acrobat 9 Pro quits after launch

I just got a new iMac and transferred all of my files + apps from a backup drive. I went from OSX Snow Leopard to Lion 10.8.2 OS. When I went to launch my Acrobat 9 Pro, it said that it was part of a suite and I needed to open one of the CS5 apps. (I have CS5 Design Standard) I launched ALL of the apps in CS5, but Acrobat still wouldn't open. I reinstalled Illustrator CS5 once and Acrobat 9 twice from the original discs, but it still didn't work. (Uninstalled Acrobat first before resinstalling.) After the 2nd reinstall of Acrobat 9, I got a dialog that said "Licensing for this product has stopped working". Called Adobe support and all licensing checks out fine.
Using Acrobat Pro is VITAL to my business in preparing files for press almost daily. Any workarounds or help would be greatly apreciated.

Oops, sorry, missed that (that you did the uninstall/reinstall tango. The problem is still likely associated with having copied a whole system image or files over. Unfortunately, this is something that Adobe has to directly assist you with. Were you waiting 2 hours just to speak with someone or were you on with someone for two hours who wasn't able to help. If the latter, ask for a supervisor.
If you still can't get assistance, please contact me with a private message.

  • Acrobat X Pro | Will not launch

    Moved to a new laptop.
Deactivated Acrobat X Pro on old laptop
Reinstalled Acrobat X Pro (with Sr # - not trial version)
Installs OK. PDF Printer installed and works.
But Acrobat will not launch, after the initial 'splash' screen.
    No error messages.
    Same with Distiller.
PDF documents open with Reader only
Windows 7 - 64 bit - Same as on old laptop. Worked perfectly well on old laptop.

    Update:
Had a support ticket set up and got a call back pretty quick from the Adobe Support Team.
Unintalled Reader X - to avoid possible conflict with X Pro.
Deleted cache and pcd files from CommonFiles/Adobe PCD
Logged out of domain user profile
Logged in as a local user
Acrobat lauched, connected with Adobe, and worked ok.
Logged out as local user and logged in again as normal user.
Acrobat X Pro lauched and works fine.
Thank you for the quick resolution.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro fails to launch

We had to reinstall Adobe CS4 on a workstation. Acrobat 9 pro was installed as part of this. Acrobat 9 worked for a couple of days and now it fails to launch.
We attempted to fix the install, that did not work.
We attempted to reinstall and received 2 separate messages.
    1-Acrobat is running
    2-Speed Launcher is running.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

To download Acrobat 9 Professional :
Go to the web page : http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=acrobat_pro&loc=en
Login with your Adobe ID and Password. Now instead of clicking on the download button copy and paste the following link on the address bar and hit enter :http://trials2.adobe.com/Applications/Acrobat/APRO/9/trials/AcroPro90_ efg.exe
This is the direct download link for Acrobat 9.
Note : This link would only work from the downloads page of Acrobat 10 or downloads page of Contribute 6.5

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Pro won't launch

I have installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro as part of Creative Cloud.
Right after downloading and installing Acrobat will launch just fine.  After a few days it will not launch and will only create a process in windows task manager.
    Any help please.
I am running Windows 7, and I only purchased Creative Cloud 2 weeks ago, so it have been less than the 30 days trial period.
    Thanks

All I can suggest at this point is to go to Control Panel>Programs & Features and click on Acrobat. You will get an option to repair. When you have finished with the repair (assuming it works), then go to Help>Updates and update your installation. You can also download the update from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install 11.0.06. Last I checked, 11.0.06 will update all the way back to 11.0. This is not always the case, so looking at the last version that is needed to do updates is always a good idea.

  • Acrobat X Pro won't launch

My adobe 5 suite keeps updating and last month after update, Acrobat no longer launches.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled just Acrobat and still get same problem.  I can launch PDFs in Reader.  But nothing happens with Acrobat X Pro.

Try going to the Control Panel>Programs..., how ever you might do that in WIn 8.1 -- I guess from the settings menu. Select Acrobat X and do a repair. If that allows you to open Acrobat, then go to help and run the updates or use the updates from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows

  • Acrobat 7 Pro crashes at launch on Macintosh

I'm running OSX.4.11 on a Dual 500 G4. I've recently lost the ability to use Acrobat 7 Professional for some reason. I've tried uninstalling  and re-installing, running all updates as well. I've trashed preferences. I've tossed /Library files. It still won't launch. Distiller will launch but won't distill at all. It just processes then crashes.
Seems to have begun when I installed Adobe Reader 9. I also have CS3 & 4 apps installed which run fine. I know the conflict lies somewhere in all that but don't know exactly where. I am able to generate PDFs from other apps like Quark but I need the editing abilities that Pro offers.
    Please help with any ideas.
    O

Not sure what it it, but I'd check if it is a font conflict by turning some of them off.

  • CS3 - Acrobat 8 Pro - stopped converting MS apps Word/Publisher/Excel

    Hello,
SUDDENLY after having no trouble with this for 2 years, I get the message in the attached image whenever I try to convert a MS app document from Word, Publisher or Excel.
Also cannot print to PDF from a web page or as a work around to the MS problem
I can pdf from any of the CS programmes fine. I can even so screen captures and create a pdf from the clipboard image.
Coincidentally at the same time another weird thing happened....I found the Selection tool in Illustrator stopped behaving in its normal way and acts like the Direct Selection tool and I now have to use the Free Transform tool to change the size of an object.  The shop I do work for also has CS3, which was bought at the same time as my copy, and that Illustrator has the same problems!  We do ferry files back and forth between us, so did one of us cause this to the other?
Did something happen in the recent CPSID 46197 update for Acrobat Pro  8 1 6 ???
    More important...any help for this?
    Thanks!

OK...I found the answer to the Illy thing in the Illy forum...which is where I first should have looked!
The bounding box view was "hidden".... a click too far at the shop probably.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - I/O error message when saving

I'm trying to save an 823KB PDF file that I've worked on many times before and saved successfully in the past, but now when I try to save I get an error message that says "The docuement can not be saved. A file I/O error has occured."
I really don't want to loose the 2hrs worth of work I put into this doc. today- help! I'm on my local server at work. Here is a list of all the things I've already tried:
1.changing the file name - I get the same I/O error
    2. saving as a Word doc. - I get a message that says "Save As failed to process this documents. No file was created."
    3. When I copy & paste into Word I lose all my formatting and images
    4. copy & paste into a new PDF doc. - I get an error message from an "editor" saying that I can only author documents up to 20 pages. I don't have an option to copy and paste select pages.. only to copy the file. I did figure out a way to copy the file and move it into a new blank PDF but I still loose all the formatting and images in the file.
    5. This is an 87 page document that I'm continuing to build so printing isn't going to work
    6. Searching google or this forum- I see this problem posted elsewhere, but no viable solutions posted.
    Please help (thank you)!

You might try running CHKDSK on the disk to where you try to save the file. You might have a corrupted file directory or a damaged track on that disk. I urge you to backup what you can before trying this.

  • CS6 serial doesn't work to launch Acrobat X Pro

Only Acrobat X Pro was installed on my window desktop until I bought the CS6 last month. Before installing CS6 on my window with new serial number, I uninstalled the original Acrobat X Pro and use the original serial number to install in two other machines. When I tired to launch Acrobat X Pro, it showed a message that my old serial number has been used by maximum allowed computers. I tried to reactivate with my new serial number, but it did not work. While other products of CS6 is working, I reinstalled the Acrobat X Pro with the new serial number. However, the same error message appeared. Has anyone else experienced this? I could not find good solution online. Thanks!

    Hi
A CS6 serial number will NOT work with the Acrobat Customization Wizard. You were misinformed by Adobe support (If you can PM me a case number, I can ensure that this training need gets addressed with the agent/team in question). Only Acrobat serial numbers will be accepted by the Customization Wizard.
The usual way to use a CS6 serial number in conjunction with an Acrobat deployment is to package your CS6 suite using AAMEE 3.0, deploy Acrobat (as so-called Execeptions payload) using the commands documented in the AAMEE deployment guide, followed by a deployment of the Suite package.
This process is documented in the Enterprise Deployment Guide (linked here from the forums, and available at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html).
    Kind regards
    Henk

  • Unable to install Acrobat XI Pro

I recently suffered a catastrophic computer problem requiring that I install a fresh copy of Windows 8 and then reinstall all my software.
I subscribe to CS and used the download manager to install the applications I use. All but one - Acrobat XI Pro - installed and launched flawlessly. Yet for some reason I'm receiving an error each time I attempt to install Acrobat XI. After the error the installer rolled back the action returning my computer to its original state.
When I could not install it, I located Acrobat X Pro and downloaded and attempted to install a trial version but received another error message. I checked my system and did not find the application but I did find nearly empty file folders that contained only a short list of temporary files.
I rely on Acrobat for my business so it is imperative that I resolve this issue. I did not experience difficulties with this software before.
    Mark

I believe there is information in the CS forum about the installation of Acrobat with the suite. It is not a simple installation as with the stand-alone Acrobat, but requires some additional steps. I would suggest you ask in the CS forum or be willing to wait for one of the folks who are familiar with the steps for CS.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro not recognizing mapped drives

I have a workstation in an enterprise environment that is having issues opening files from a network drive.  When the user tries to open the file directly from the network drive, Acrobat 9 Pro pops up a message that the file doesn't exist.  If we run Acrobat Pro, and try to open a file, the only drives listed are the local drives. The workstations are running Windows 7 Pro.  Other users running Acrobat 9 Pro on our network are not having the same issues. I have seen previous posts by people experiencing the same problem.  Has anyone come up with a fix?

    Hi gk_shttrbg,
Acrobat 9 is way too old to be eligible for any bug fixes. Please check the performance in A11 and see if you still face issues.
You might want to upgrade to A11 as currently A9 has reached end of life.
    Regards,
