CS3 Acrobat Distiller Error

I am trying to create pdfs from multiple Indesign CS3 files. When I drop the files (or even just one) in distiller I get the following error that I can't figure out. All images are linked and all fonts are available.
Adobe PDF Settings: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/Smallest File Size.joboptions
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand:   Ìıÿ FÂΩ1ÔÁ˛t∑ DOCUMENT p  ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Distill Time: 1 seconds (00:00:01)
**** End of Job ****
Thank you.

Check out this script from Peter Kahrel in the Indesign Scripting forum
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1112917#1112917
It references a batch conversion file that he wrote which will do what you want.
The script name is batch_convert_CS3. You'll have to copy the link and paste it into a browser window. The old links have not been reset.

  • Acrobat Distiller Error 5 message when scanning?

Acrobat Distiller unable to create temp folder error 5 message when scanning. I can print no problem cannot scan with error?

    Hi,
Similar issues have been resolved in earlier posts - Re: Error 5 from Acrobat Distiller - Cannot print to PDF
Assuming by Error 5 that it is related to Access Denied problem:
    1. Clean up the contents of your %temp% folder.
    2. Give full permissions to the %temp% folder
Try working with Acrobat after this.

  • How am I meant to correct my Framemaker files to solve this Acrobat Distiller error?

When I attempt to generate a PDF from Framemaker 9 using Distiller 8.1 I get the following error:
%%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: imageDistiller; ErrorInfo: DCTDecodeFilter Second SOI or SOFn JPEG marker is disallowed ]%%
    Stack:
    -dict-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%"
No PDF is created. I've tried 'save as' and 'print'. I have created a PDF from this document several times before with no issues. I haven't replaced any of the screenshots in this version. Where can I find the graphic that is causing the problem? How can I solve this?
    Thanks,
    Niall.

    1. To turn "off" the graphics, simply use the esc v v shortcut (this is a toggle on/off) at the book level (no need to remove anything).
    2. Render in Error's context means, then run it again with no graphics visible (but it's obvious from the Distiller error messages that the problem is in a JPEG that can't be properly interpreted).
    3. To isolate the page containing the errant graphic, a binary search apporach means do one half at a time, i.e. the first half of the book abd then the second half, to see where the error occurs. Then split the offending half section into two-halves again and re-create the PDF until you've narrowed down to the page with the error-prone file.
However, you indicate that you're able to create the PDFs properly when printing wthout Generate Acrobat Data enabled. What is you default printer instance and which joboptions are specified?

  • Acrobat 7.0 Distiller error

I have the complete Adobe Creative Suite Premium package, and I recently have started having issues converting Documents or Spreadsheets to PDF. When I click on "Convert to Adobe PDF", after the PDF window opens, I get a Distiller error message, followed by a pop-up with the option to send an error message to Microsoft, or not to.
    The Error Message reads:
    Acrobat Distiller
    Event Type: InPageError P1: c000009c P2: 00000003
When I clcik on the 'details' tab, it points to the following 2 files:
    \\WER047e.dir00\acrodist.exe.mdmp
    \\WER047e.dir00\appcompat.txt
I have completely removed Creative Suite and reinstalled it,to no avail. I have also tried to remove and reinstall only Acrobat 7.0, with no luck. I have installed Acrobat 7.0 on another PC to see if it would work, and it did.
I am at a loss as to whether this is an error in Acrobat, Distiller or on my PC, and I do not know what steps to take to repair it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Acrobat Distiller 9 Error - Cannot Print PDF

When I try to print PDFs from any browser or piece of software, try to open Distiller directly, or even scan to PDFs, I receive the following error:
Unable to create the temporary folder.
Error: 5 - Access is denied.
I have had no problems until Monday with this.  I did not install any new software.  I have done the following:
Scanned the computer for Malware (Malwarebytes) - 0 threats found
Scanned the computer for regular virus/registry issues (AVG 2013) - 0 threats found
Repaired Acrobat 9 PRO installation - no change
Rebooted multiple times - no change
My computer runs Windows 7 64-bit, and I have Adobe Web Premium CS5 (which comes with Acrobat 9 PRO).  I currently do not have access to the installation discs, as I just moved.

jlk2011 thanks, I found your thread, and it worked!  I'm sharing what I did here and then closing the thread.
By holding the Windows key and R down, I typed %TEMP% into the Run field and hit Enter.
I found a temp folder name Acrobat Distiller 9.  I deleted the folder.  I then created a new folder with the same name, and I was immediately able to print PDFs again.  The issue was resolved.

  • Acrobat Distiller Automation Interface Error

As software developer I try to use the Adobe Acrobat Distiller Automation  Interface as described in the document "Acrobat Distiller
    API Reference",  "Windows Automation".
Now I have found the problem, that if the same user is using the automation  interface at the same time, the second user fails with the following error: The  server threw an exception. (-2147417851).
I have investigated myself into the problem I discovered that the same user  is sharing the acrodist.exe process. How can I now start
an own process to  allow parallel execution?
With two different users the problem does not occur.
    Thanks for your help
    Raphael Affolter

That's what I have done. I have created an own Mutext to synchronize access to the Distiller Interface.
But race conditions exists even with a Mutex on a fast machine because if one process is releasing and the other acquiring the Distiller interface at the same time, the second process may fail.
The documentation says: Each user of the automation interface has its own Distiller instance. There is no sharing of a common Distiller.
Therefore I have tested this and it works fine for different users (even if the EULA prohibits this).
To solve the synchronization and race conditions, even for the same user an own instance should be started or the Distiller should serialize the requests itself (to avoid race condition).
    Thanks again

  • After Acrobat 10.1.8 update, Distiller error

I recently pushed via AutoIT script the Acrobat 10.1.8 Pro update only to users who already had Acrobat X installed (a small test group in IT before deploying to almost 300). After the update ran, all of them got an error message. Title bar: Acrobat Distiller, Message: Error initializing interpreter: Fatal error, with OK and X the only options. They were able to open Acrobat X Pro successfully after this and the update had been applied. I need to get this error resolved before deploying the the rest of the users.
We're on Windows 7 Pro SP1. We did recently upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.05, though I'm not sure if these folks have both installed. I always recommend to remove Reader before installing Acrobat Pro.

  • Error Message using Acrobat Distiller

Each time I try to take my Word document I converted to a PDF and changed to Postscript and open it in the Acrobat Distiller I get this error message:
    PDF/X Compliance Report
    1.  Bounding Boxes
[Violation] Both TrimBoxes and ArtBoxes were found on the following pages:
Violations: The total found in this section was 125.
    2.  Summary
Warnings: The total found in this document was 0.
Violations: The total found in this document was 125.
This document does not pass PDF/X-1a:2001 compliance checks.
    </PDFX>
%%[ Warning: Did not pass PDF/X compliance tests. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Can someone tell me what I need to change in Acrobat to pass the PDF/X compilance test???
    Please.....

This problem drove me crazy, but I finally (sort of) found the answer. To make a long story short, I eventually realized I had already gotten my file to be in the PDF/X-1a:2001 format even thought I was still getting the TrimBox error. So, my first advice is to go to File > Properties > Custom, and see if PDF/X-1a:2001 is already listed. If so, stop there because you are already good.
If not, you need to run Preflight. Go to  View > Tools > Print Production. The menu will show up on the right-hand side. Choose Preflight. Go down to "Convert to PDF/X Compliance" and click it. Then click one of the "Convert PDF/X 1a" options (I don't know what the different options mean, so I just chose the first one). Then click the "Analyze and Fix" button at the bottom. It will prompt you to save this analyzed/fixed document as a different name. If you get any errors, google them and try to fix them. (I was able to figure a few small ones out. My second file didn't have any errors.) Run it again until it is fine.
Here is the key. Go to File > Properties > Custom, and see if PDF/X-1a:2001 is listed. If so, you are good. The mistake I made was at this point to try again to print it to a PDF/X-1a:2001 and I was still getting that Trim Box Art Box error and driving myself crazy until I finally realized that I already had a PDF/X-1a:2001 file even though I was still getting that stupid error.

  • Exporting pdf "acrobat distiller printer description not found" ERROR!

I just upgraded my g4 to tiger and I am running quark 5 on it. I can no longer export pdfs. I get an error saying "acrobat distiller printer description not found." I am stumped and I NEED to get this working!!
Anybody who knows how to fix this please let me know!
    Thanks

You may need to re-install Adobe Acrobat Pro, assuming you need the functionality of Acrobat to create PDFs. To create simple PDF's there is a PDF menu on every print dialog box that does not require the Distiller printer description file.

  • Acrobat Distiller.app can't be selected when printing to Adobe PDF 9.0

When trying to print a word 2004 doc to Adobe PDF 9.0 ( using the Adobe PDF 9.0 option from the Printer drop-down list within the print dialog box - I have CS4 Design Premium installed including Acrobat Pro 9) I'm asked to locate my copy of Acrobat Distiller in a dialog box. I point it to the correct location. However Acrobat Distiller.app within folder Applications>Acrobat Pro 9 is greyed out and can't be selected. How do I get round this?

Hello lisagig and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would be inclined to run a repair disk permissions first and if that doesn't help then I would reset your printing system. Note that this will remove all of your current printer queues so if you have a number of network printers in the list it would be handy to make a note of their network queue, which you will see via the Print & Fax > Options & Supplies > General pane shown as URL.
To add the PDF printer queue back, you will need to make the Advanced icon appear in the Add Printer pane. To do this, open Print & Fax and click to Add a printer. Control Click on the current toolbar (next to More Printers will be fine) and select Customize Toolbar. Drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar. Now click the Advanced icon. After a few seconds this pane will become active so you can select the Adobe PDF 8.0 (pdf) in the Type column. Every other column will autofill so leave them as they are except for the Print Using menu, where you will have to open, click 'Select a driver to use' and then type Adobe in the search window. This should show the 'Adobe PDF 3016.102'. Select this and click Add to complete. Now try printing with this new Adobe printer to see if the error has stopped.

  • Acrobat Distiller has stopped working (not 30 day issue)

I've been running CS6 on my Windows 7, 64 bit machine since at least October. I had the 30 day issue at the 30 day mark, but resolved it and it's worked flawlessly for months after that. Now,  I get an error message that says Acrobat Distiller has stopped working. My only option is to close that window. Acrobat continues to work to read, edit and save an already created  PDFs. Here are where I experience errors.
I can create a new PDF within Acrobat.  If I click "Create PDF" then choose a Word Doc, it gives me at least two times the error message that Acrobat Distiller has stopped working. If I keep closing that message, eventually the pdf will have been created and will be in the Acrobat window and the file will be saved.
I can't print to PDF at all. When I try from within Acrobat, I see a little window that says it's checking fonts, then the Distiller stopped working error message. When I try printing to pdf from other programs (have tried Word, Firefox), crashes.  It could be a one page document with just text, or something with pictures -  no go.  I just tested it again - now Acrobat is not responding.  I can't end the Acrobat process - have tried closing the window, and saying end process, tried ending Acrobat from within task manager, tried ending the acrobat and acrotray processes - multiple times in Task Manager and Acrobat won't close.
I don't know how to fix this. I've checked to make sure Acrobat was updated; I've updated my Windows; I've reinstalled Acrobat.  Nothing fixes it.
When I run Acrobat Distiller, it freezes seemingly in the midst of checking fonts.   Here is the text of the problem details section of the error message I get:
    Problem Event Name:    InPageError
    Error Status Code:    c000009c

I think I may have fixed my problem...  I am no longer seeing the Distiller stopped working pop up and I am now able to print to PDF
    Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
My Fonts and program are all installed on the same drive  thus preventing me from gaining access to Distiller to change the settings. Windows would not let me make any changes to the Default Font folder.
    This is what I did...
Not knowing which font(s) where causing the problem, I moved all but protected fonts (automatically labelled) from the Window's Font folder and placed them in a temporary folder.
I restarted Distiller DC and great news...the program did not crash and I was able to change the settings to temporarily not include the Windows Fonts .No more pop ups and I can now print to PDF!
What I am going to do..
Through the process of elimination, I will gradually restore the fonts I removed from from the Window's folder to find the culprits(s)
Once I am satisfied that the problem Font(s) are found and no longer  included in the Window's Font folder, I will change the settings in Distiller back (permanently) to include the Window's Font folder.
In closing, and because so many others are having the same issues, I really do think it would be prudent for Adobe to make the necessary adjustments to their program(s) to prevent this kind of issue.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9 Problems

    Hi,
New to the forum - hopefully someone can help me out. I have also tried the Adobe Forums, Quark Forums etc. etc. with no result - all are blaming Apple - so here I am. (Mod's please move this thread if it isn't in the right place).
Specs first - Quark 8.12, Suitcase Fusion 13.2.1, Acrobat Distiller 9.2.0, Mac OSX 10.5.8.
When I create pdfs from Quark (Indesign etc.) - I print them through the print dialogue box (using the acrobat PPD) - save them - and it prints like if it were going to a printer (output device) but creates a pdf. This is the way I have always done it and the way I want to continue to do it.
What I am experiencing is that even though I have specified create "Low Resolution" or "Standard Resolution" pdfs it outputs/saves them as "High Resolution" Pdfs.
The other day it was the opposite I specified "High" and it save a "Low Resolution" pdf.
The high resolution pdfs seem to be extremely large also. Previously in Acrobat Distiller 7 a high resolution pdf file of one particular document I have was 50Mb in size, the same document distilled in Acrobat Distiller 9 gives my a 250Mb pdf file!!
I am also experiencing unwanted rotation of pages with the pdf creation ie a landscape page is distilled (rotate) to a portrait page.
I have tried deleting settings, creating new documents and pasting the information in, pdfing on other computers all with the same results.
What I have found is that if I just use the default acrobat settings - standard, small, high quality etc. the files pdf fine and have expected file sizes etc.
But as soon as I make a custom setting in distiller or use a 3rd party acrobat setting that's when the problem/s occur - large file sizes, rotated pages etc.
What is also weird is if I turn "auto rotate pages" to "off" in acrobat distiller it will rotate the pages (a landscape but distills it to portrait) but if I choose one of the other settings like "individually" it pdfs OK in the right orientation.
Anybody have any ideas of why Distiller (or whatever) freaks out when I change the settings?? (creates massive pdf files, rotates pages etc) I need to be able to make custom distiller settings for various newspapers, magazines etc.
    So just to recapp:
Default Acrobat Distiller settings work but custom or 3rd party settings do not work in Acrobat Distiller. Nor do they "Stick/Stay" in the drop down menu when you select them like the default settings do - the menu defaults back to "default".
I have upgraded to 9.2.0 - reset the printers - Uninstalled the software and reinstalled it all with the same result.
Doesn't matter if I make a PS file etc and drop it onto distiller - still get the same outcome.
    Please Help!!
    Thanks

Got Distiller to work. Seems the problem was with software activation/licensing. I got different software - and a free update to Acrobat 9 Extended - from my merchant and installed it. Distiller now does not crash anymore when starting it up and appears (thus far) stable.
However, I still get an error message at start up:
    Adobe PostScript software version: 3018.101
Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range
A quick web search shows that this is also not a new problem. Some say that Distiller is not able to create PDF/X4 files and that the error is thus a bug in Distiller itself. Is that true? (I can't find a joboptions file of that name in my system ...)
Do I need to do anything about it or can I just leave it?

  • Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9 crashes on start

I recently bought a new notebook with Intel Pentium dual-core processor T3400 and Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
This weekend, I have been installing some software, including Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended.
Actually, I bought Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro just for having Acrobat Distiller (not: Distiller Server), to use in book publishing with Corel Ventura 10 and PostScript. The version I got is Acrobat Distiller 9.
However, when I now start up Acrobat Distiller 9 it shows up for one or two seconds and then crashes (just vanishes from the screen without an error message).
I found the same problem described for earlier versions of Distiller (in XP and Mac) in various online fora, but thus far I have not seen a solution described anywhere.
It seems to be a common (and long-standing) problem, certainly there must be a fix?
(I already uninstalled an reinstalled Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and also tried "Repair Acrobat Installation" under "Help" in the programme. To no avail.)
Let me know if you have an idea. Thanks.
