CS3 Anchor Points Disapear

i'm useing cs3 and when i try to make a path, the anchor points disapear as i create a path. when i click the point shows up, then when i release it is gone. then when i make the next point the path shows up, but when i release again the path is gone and only the stroke remains.
i feel like this might also be connected with the fact that when i select a path with the selection tool, the bounding box shows up but the path it self does not--though if i manually rotate the path or change the scale the path is visible.
i'm sure this is some simple thing i inadvertantly selected or deselected, but if you can help me out i would apreciate it very much.
thank you!
edit: i just remembered that i have problems with the direct select tool too: when i click a point the path doesn't show up. i'm sure this has the same fix as above, but i thought i'd mention it just in case.

There are two command keyboard commands that become turn off by accident a lot.
Command>Shift B hide Bounding Box and Command H hide edges in your case it is Command H.

  • Is it possible to disable anchor points in illustrator cs3?

    I just got my wacom tablet and want to disable anchor points in illustrator. I've tried hiding edge and disable auto/add delete in the preference general section.
    I want to be able to draw freely without anchor points connecting with all my shapes that are next to eachother.
    How can I disable the anchor points so it'll allow me to free draw?
    Thanks.

    Pen tool or brush tool?
    Brush tool: Double-click on the brush tool button itself in the toolbar.  Adjust settings accordingly. (specifically "keep selected")
    Pen tool:  No such luck.  Hit the command key to toggle the last used selection tool and click somewhere to deselect.  Or hit command-shift-a to deselect all.

  • Offset Path in AI CS4 added overlaping unnecessary anchor points.

    Offset Path tool in AI CS4 offen added some unnecessary anchor points, these points were hard to find because they were overlaping. But when these path were used to blend, faulty effect come. I must remove them manually. It never happened in AI CS2.

    > You could use a script to find and remove these points (JET?).
    A script could search for and remove
    coincident points. But in my experience with the problem in CS3, the abberant results of Outline Stroke, Offset Path, etc., are not consistent enough to reliably correct with a script. In some situations, the redundant points do not have identical handles. How would a script know the right handles to retain? In other situations, entirely extra trash paths are created (as when outlining strokes of dashed paths--the supposed justification for the whole train wreck in the first place). How is a script supposed to know which paths are correct?
    A proper script solution would be to replace the offset path feature altogether. But that would be a pretty ambitious undertaking.
    No, the dang thing just needs to be fixed. Others (assumed to be beta testers) have reported that it was fixed in CS4. If artilu is correct here, that is not the case.
    Adobe's history has not been good re fixing such bugs during the lifecycle of a major version.

  • Handles missing from anchor points in Photoshop CS4

    I am trying to etch an image in PS CS4, and the handles keep disapearing from the anchor points as I click and drag, when I close the path there are no handles, and when I use the path selection tool the anchor points appear but no handles, if I use the convert anchor point tool a handles appears but disapears again as soon as it is deselected. I am definitelty clicking and dragging to create the path so the handles should be present.

    If you want to show the handles that shape a section then click on that section with the Direct Selection tool (the white arrow) and not with the Path Selection tool (the black arrow).

  • Dreamweaver Linking to Anchor Point

    I am using Dreamweaver CS3 and am trying to link from an
    image to an anchor point on the same web page and play a flash
    video. I have followed the recommended way to create the anchor
    point and use the "#anchor point name" after the link to play my
    video at this point on the same web page. Every time the video
    plays in a new web page and not at the anchor point. This is the
    generated code for what I'm trying to do:
    <div style="text-align: center;">
    <p style="font-family: American Typewriter;"><span
    style="font-weight: bold;"><font size="+1">
    <span style="text-decoration: underline;">PREVIOUS

    Any suggestions?

    You won't get desired results this way. You could embed
    player code on the
    page inside a hidden division or layer and use an event
    handler (JavaScript)
    to reveal the division on MouseClick. I did something similar
    here using
    Walter Zorn's Tooltips JavaScript library.

  • Can't add, delete, convert anchor points

    Finally upgraded to CS3, and I find that I can't can't add, delete, convert anchor points on a path in certain documents. I get the "Please use the XX tool on a segment of a path. The appearance tells me I have a path. I can paste the paths into a new file, and everything works. I saved to CS2 and can manipulate to my hearts content. These are not a complicated paths (4-12 points).
    On a related note, when I tried to draw the path, the anchor point would not appear where I clicked but up and to the right or down and the left. Moving points with the mouse or the arrow tool constrains the angle and length. Moving in the transform palette, i can move it freely
    Obviously, I can copy and paste these into new docs, but is there I did in setting the original documents that caused this behavior, because I'd like to avoid it in the future.
    Sorry if this is an obvious question, I'm more of 'Shop person. Thanks in advance.

    Yeah, removing grid saved me too.  The irony here is we use grids to try and be more accurate, yet the paths can't even be found with snap on.  Really dumb 'gotchya' for anyone moving over to this software IMHO

  • Add Anchor Point tool makes entire selection disappear

    I've encountered this off and on over the last few years from Flash CS3 to CS5. It doesn't happen on everything but right now I've got some hair I'm creating and I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to add anchor points and only successfully been able to add 3 or 4. Most of the time, adding an anchor point just makes my entire drawing disappear. Has anyone else encountered this? My work has all but come to a stop because of this problem.

    Problem Solved.
    Turned on Smart Guides (cmd-U) and that seems to have taken care of it.

  • Photoshop CS5 Curves & Anchor Points

    In CS3, when using a Curves Adjustment layer, I could Shift Click on an image to place an anchor point on each of the red, green, and blue channels in RGB mode.  This process changed in CS4 and CS5.
    From experimenting in CS4 and CS5, I can only place an anchor point on a single channel.  I want to place a simultaneous anchor point on each layer.
    My question is, How do I place a simultaneous anchor point on each channel in a curves adjustment layer?

    Using a curves layer, if I use Control Shift on an image, then anchor points are inserted on all channels.  This applies to CS3 to CS5.

  • SMALL Anchor Points

    Oh My God, I loooooooove Illustrator, BUT:
    ANCHOR POINTS DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!
    When I am drawing paths with pen tool, and need to adjust anchor points or handles, they are so small! I work at 1280 rez, and seems that those tiny points were designed to drive us mad!
    In CS3 I noted a improvement on this, but even the largest size available for anchor points presentation is still small for me.
    When we design interfaces, we have to follow the Fitt´s law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitts%27s_law). According to this, "targets that are smaller and/or further away require more time to acquire".
    The productivity, related to dealing with points, would be strongly affected if those tiny anchor points could be made bigger or more responsible.
    It hurts to say but, Corel Draw´s anchor points dynamic is much better. But that´s all. All other stuff is better in Illustrator. Why Adobe doesn´t make this software COMPLETELY better than CorelDraw? Better anchor points is still missing, specially concerning to their sizes in interface.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Thanks Larry. I ended up talking to cusomer support, and they had me delete the "en_US" file in the Illustrator CS6 Preferences file. After that, it started working correctly. Glad to know my frustration with this tricky program was actually warranted this time around

  • Illustrator cc 2014 adds anchor points to guides

    What is happening with illustrator CC 2014!!! I have placed a guide to know where to add a anchor point cliked on the add anchor point tool but when i select the object i want to add the anchor point to it adds an anchor point to the guide!!!! so i locked the guide thinking that this would solve the problem it then gives me a warning sign saying please use on a segment of the path it still thinks the guide is a path!!!

    wozza,
    Are you sure you are selecting the path, not the guid?
    It may be time to look at the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Disappearing paths and anchor points

    Using a MacBook Pro with Adobe CS3, the anchor points and drawing lines have disappeared from both the outline and art views.  The lines are still visible, but none of the anchor points can be seen to edit the lines.  How do I make them visible again?

    Thank you that worked.  I am not sure how this happened as it is a complex geologic map that I was not looking forward to redoing for publication.

  • Need Help in Illustrator - Anchor Points to Dots

    I'm doing some work in Illustrator related to 3D modeling and i can export from the 3D aplication vector data to illustrator.
    My problem is i would like that the vertexs from the 3D model would show up like dots. And i dont know how to make in Illustrator.
    I see 2 possibilities that i don't know how to acomplish:
    - There is a way to make illustrator render anchor points like dots.
    - There is a way to place and object (like a circle) in each anchor point automaticly.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers

    Here is my answer
    Okay, I consider this potentially dangerous, because I don't know all the ramifications, never tried it before... but it initially appears to work. (I'm using CS3)
    Draw your path point to point.
    With the path selected, Select > Object> Direction handles
    Delete (this should leave the points, no connecting lines)
    With the points selected, Effect > Convert to Shape > Ellipse
    Specify an appropriate radius. Set fill to black after the effect is applied. Save a Graphic Style to reuse.

  • Tools related to anchor points are not working, can't add a point to paths or convert a point.

    Having a lot of issues manipulating points on paths in Illustrator CC - this is a fundamental feature of creating vector graphics and it's very annoying I'm paying for this and it's just not working. Eating up a lot of my time simply because I can't select or convert or add the anchor.

    bella,
    Presuming we are not just talking about more or less hidden Anchor Points as in View>Show/Hide Edges/Bounding Box, you may try to start on the following list (5) seems unlikely in this case).
    You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):

  • Direct select tool won't select anchor points

    I can't get the direct select tool to select an anchor point on an embedded picture. I'm trying to squash a square image, but the direct select tool will only select the entire object, not individual anchor points. It worked in version 10, but in CS3 13.0.2 it just gives me the solid points. What changed?

    >The direct select tool used to highlight the entire object, and the anchor(s) would become white circles. Then, you could move just one of the anchors at a time to make asymmetrical changes.
    Not with placed images. Not ever.
    >I can still do this with a shape I've drawn, but not with an image I placed.
    Yes. That's the way it has always worked in Illustrator.
    I have AI 8, 10, and 12 installed on this PC and on a Mac in my studio, so I'm not relying on (my failing) memory.

  • Convert anchor points to curve affecting adjacent points

    I was excited about the "convert anchor point to curve" function in illustrator CS3
    However, when i select a corner point and convert it to curve, it only extends the handlers of the selected points, but doesn't affect the exit handler and entry handler of the adjacent anchor points. As a result the curve is just a smooth round transition,not a curve.
    For instance, in FH3, if I "convert to curve" to the anchor points of a square , i'd get a circle and viceversa:
    If i convert to curve the anchor points of a square in illustrator i get a square with rounded edges.(see example below)
    I'd prefer a behaviour similar to Aldus Freehand-It gave me an accurate fast control of curves while drawing-What does other user think?
