CS3 and CS4 .fla files in Flash Pro 8 ?

Does anyone know what it takes for me to open .fla files from CS3/CS4 - in my Flash Pro 8 ?
It says "Wrong file type" or something like that...
The guy sending me CS3/CS4 is a PC user, and I am a Mac user... dont know if that matters....
Thanks,
John

You cannot open CS3/4 file in Flash 8.  Either you or the person sending you the files has to save the files down to Flash 8 versions before you can open them in Flash 8.  CS3 can save files down to Flash directly since each version of Flash can save to the previous version.  But CS4 files would need to be saved as CS3 files first, and then CS3 could be used to save back to Flash 8.  If any features new to CS3/4 are used in the files, these features will be lost in the conversion.

I have a friend I am helping to learn flash and he sent me a

Hi funkysoul - "he sent me a Flash file from CS3 saved as a

  • Illustrator CS3 and CS4 crashes on two different Mac Pro systems

We have two Mac pro systems. Both are running 10.5.6. As of this morning both systems crash when trying to save files from Illustrator CS3 and CS4.
I'm not sure if this started with a corrupted file, and when we tried to work with it on both machines it effected both.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Do use TimeMachine for data;
    SuperDuper for imaging the system;
Clone the system at least twice: known good backup image and for testing.
Clone or image can be just a sparse image created with Disk Utility.
I would also keep user accounts separate from the system and on 2nd drive.
Rather than reinstall, use alternate systems. You may even need to do what others have learned to, one system for specific task or configuration.
    Use different user accounts.
Don't rule out plist or preference settings or corruption.
Normally I use Disk Warrior to keep a system maintained but TechTool Pro (5.01) will do more to check files for integrity and errors, and useful addition.
If I was building a sytem today, I'd probably use 10K WD VelociRaptor or two for system, some scratch drives in stripped RAID for editing and saving work, and then media drive(s). With 3 backup sets of work.
Apple now sells OS X 10.5.6 on DVD, replacing the 10.5.4 (and 10.5.0, shame there is no upgrade program) so they must feel 10.5.6 is gold. Not all software and hardware though does, but Sonnet just posted updates for their SATA Tempo card drivers. When it comes to production, newest and latest is not usually best.

  • Have CS3 and CS4, removed CS3, now no ID files will open

I had both InDesign CS3 and CS4 installed.  By default when I would open an ID file, it would always open in CS4.  I forgot CS3 was on there so I uninstalled it and restarted the computer.  Now nothing starts in Indesign at all unless i actually open it with Indesign.  Also all the ID files no longer have the pink icon, its just a while square.  Is there a way to reset this?  I dont see a repair option in the ID setup anywhere.

Platform? Windows or Mac? OS Version? If you are on the mac you could probably get that resolved pretty easy with RC Default Apps
    http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/
I'd think if you didn't want to go that route you could just open CS4 InDesign, make a new doc, save it and it should get an icon. Right click that badboy and hold option to choose always open with. Toss a logout or restart into the machine and it should work for you. That RC Default apps is a real jewel though.
If you still get issues maybe see if JoJo cures it. It's nice if you have multiple versions of ID or Quack XPress.
    http://www.jolauterbach.com/products/jojo.htm
JoJo is payware but everythere that guy makes has been worth it if you need it. Rubicode's Default Apps is free.

  • Premiere CS3 and CS4 Crashes

I'm having trouble with Premiere Pro versions CS3 and CS4 crashing and am not sure why. The problem usually occurs after a few minutes of the program being opened or when we either try to scrub through the timeline or try to capture. It's very frustrating.  The machine came installed with CS4 and we have tried to remove and then re-install. We have also tried removing and adding CS3 and have had similar results. Recently we purchased a school license for CS5 although for Premiere we had to install the CS4 version and still have gotten the same results. • CS3 and CS4 Crashes (Open, Save, Randomly)

We have some users at my company that for sometime now have been having issues with all CS3 and CS4 products crashing when doing any sort of work. As the title states, the crashes were on opening, saving, sometimes randomly as well, and even renders in AE would fail.
After many trials and tribulations we finally got an error message that pointed us to something credible. The error message was "After Effects warning: GDI+ not intialized.", this happened on import of .psd file as a composition into AE. I found a thread on some Developers who were expierencing this error in their own programs, and Visual Studio.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/winforms/thread/931580d9-78ff-45d3-949b-0cf6 67d63e48/
This pointed to Turtoise CVS 1.10.1, which convientently we had installed on all our workstations. We updated to the latest version Turtoise CVS (1.10.10) and all of our troubles have gone away. Went from upto a half dozen crashes a day to zero, and even any issues we had with rendering went away.
I am posting this as it took awhile to find the cause of the crashing, and hope that it will helps someone else that this issue has frustrated.
Note: CS2 ran fine with Turtoise CVS 1.10.1

    Thanks for the post.

  • Same clip, different lengths in CS3 and CS4?

I'm trying to fix a problem I'm having importing my CS3 project into CS4 and I noticed that the clip lengths in the properties windows do not match for my files. For example, if I open my clip in CS3 (where it was originally edited) it shows it this:
    File Path: F:TapesTape 24Scene 018 - Ally & Paul Coffee (9).m2t
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 365.4 MB
    Image Size: 1440 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 1440
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00;01;54;14
Average Data Rate: 3.2 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.333
But in CS4 the properties show up as this:
    File Path: F:TapesTape 24Scene 018 - Ally & Paul Coffee (9).m2t
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 365.4 MB
    Image Size: 1440 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00;01;53;08
Average Data Rate: 3.2 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.3333
What would cause this discrepancy? I shot at 30f on a Canon XH-A1. My project settings in CS4 are HDV 1080p30. Do I have the wrong settings? How could the same clip be of two different lengths. I'm so confused!
Please respond only if you have a suggestion. I am not looking for comments about how I shouldn't switch programs midstream. I would like some honest help, however!
    Thanks!

    I've got a couple suggestions.
First would be to see if its a problem with the import or a just a difference in how CS3 and CS4 reads the files. If you import one of .m2t files directly into CS4 and not through importing the project, does it give you the same info as you listed above? (I'm assuming the file info above was derived from importing the project and then looking at the file's info.) If it is correct when independently brought into premiere, then the problem lies with importing a CS3 project and I would suggest trying to unlink then link your media. If there is no difference, then it's something else.
Second suggestion is to export an EDL out of CS3. Then, instead of importing your CS3 project into CS4, import the EDL and see if this resolves your edit points.
One note I've noticed with the EDL's in premiere, they don't import well when generated in framecount mode, but work fine in timecode mode (in CS3 this is just what your timeline time indicator mode is set at, right click the time indicator and set it to Timecode. in CS4 this doesn't work and you have to set the Display Format to Timecode under your Project Settings.)
    Good luck.

  • Is Adobe CS5 compatible with CS3 and Dreamweaver 8 files

    All,
We have eight users that are using CS3 (Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat 8) plus Dreamweaver Studio 8 on Windows XP Pro 32-bit.  Two of these users are moving to Windows 7 64-bit.  We don't have it in the budget to upgrade all 8 users.  Will Adobe CS5 Premium files (particularly InDesign and Dreamweaver) work with CS3 and Dreamweaver 8 files?
    Thanks

InDesign absolutely NOT! InDesign can only save back one version.
But...CS3 runs just fine on Win7 64 bit.
I'm not sure about what issues you'll have with Dreamweaver.
Please post followups in the InDesign and Dreamweaver forums.

  • Serial Number Issues running CS3 and CS4

I've been waiting 3 days for Adobe customer support to respond to this with no answer... Now it's the weekend and I'm without CS4.
I'm running full versions of CS3 and CS4 Design Premium (The educational versions, only InDesign CS3 is installed) and after running through a bunch of other technical hurdles (files crashing), I had to run the CS3 cleanscript to get InDesign CS3 running.  Which it now is. Perfectly.
After getting InDesign CS3 up and running, all of the CS4 programs are asking for a serial number and the one I have no longer works.
Anyone know how this might be fixed without having to wait the entire weekend?

I'm not sure what did the trick, but I tried this, reinstalled everything, and it seems to be working again. Thanks, I don't know if that did the trick, but something did.
A little frustrated with Adobe customer service though, who told me Friday to call in "Monday to Friday", only to find it was Memorial Day yesterday and they were closed! (I'm in Canada, so I took two hours off of work for nothing)

  • Display Performance Difference between CS3 and CS4

I have a computer running CS3 and a computer running CS4. When I place an image in InDesign CS3, it looks way better than when I place it in CS4. The display performance for both computers are set exactly the same. Raster and Vector images are set to proxy, transparency is set to medium quality, Anti Aliasing is turned on.
    The CS4 computer:
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Memory 4GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
    CS3 computer:
    Processor Name: PowerPC G5
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Memory 4GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
What am I missing? It is virtually every image.

"You can adjust the quality of the the display itself without altering the name of the setting."
Tried that. The end result is viewing images at the higher quality that slows down the machine.
"Also, the size and resolution of images plays a role in how large the previews are, and their quality."
The difference is very noticeable when the exact same image is placed at the exact same sizes in InDesign CS3 and CS4. Everything in the workflow remained the same, except the changing of InDesign files.

  • Enabling Installation of CS3 and CS4 products that will not install on Windows 7 64Bit.

Adobe installers are not known for their helpful or forgiving ways & I have more than once had to reinstall Windows when installation of CS3 and CS4 products has failed with patently inscrutable errors.
The background to the current issue that I was attempting to install PS CS4 on a W7 system which already had CS CS3 installed. The CS4 installer threw up inscrutable messages indicating  that the installation could not proceed and to contact Adobe (they are joking right ? Their phone & web support is notoriously UN-helpful).
After reading through threads suggesting that I uninstall CS3, apply CS3 and CS4 cleaning scripts I was in exactly same position I have found myself in on least 2 occasions with WinXP. By this time I couldn't event get CS CS3 to reinstall!
Then I decided to review the event log and found a number of installer events thrown up by the Adobe installers resembling "Error 1402. Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\xxxxxxxx".
I tracked down this very helpful solution which allowed me to change the registry permissions on the parent key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\ Components and propagate the new permissions down to the child keys.
    http://www.okino.com/conv/changing_windows_registry_permissions.htm.
My advice is to follow instructions for "A More All-Encompassing Solution" and propagate the permissions right down to all the child keys as I could see a number of separate adobe installer errors in the event log. Also note the instruction to change the Owner from 'System' to 'Administrators' in Advanced settings. This is necessary in order for the Permissions change to be accepted and replace all the child object permissions.
As with most registry changes good advice to backup your registry hive first (although I didn't; by this time I was already expecting to have to reinstall Windows) and restart your system after making the registry changes before attempting to install  / reinstall CS3 or CS4 products.
Hope this solution works as well for others as it did for me as the Adobe support on this issue has been next to useless.
[P.S. Q: Did you hear the joke about the guy who worked on product installation at Adobe rocking up at job interview with 'Adobe Installation Project Team' on his Resume? A: That that is the joke! If you wanted another job in installation development you would hardly admit to experience at Adobe ;)]

    John Joslin wrote:

My apologies John I didn't realize that I was addressing the official custodian of Photoshop.
Incidentally my advice is intended for others in a similar situation who find themselves stalled during installation and otherwise contemplating a re-installation of Windows. I believe this would be obvious to most forum participants who had actually read my original post.
