CS3 and lightroom raw converters change colour of  5D files when importing.

The problem is that lightroom and CS3 systematically go through raw 5D..CR2 photos and change colours, even when set to "as shot". I think part of the problem is that i upped the saturation in camera, and the raw converters have been stripping this away to desaturate colours... but in doing this they have taken too much away and left photos very desaturated and looking nothing like colours that were actually there.
I have taken some with all settings on camera default, yet still there is a slight but noticable shift in colour.
anyone shed any light on this, or had similar experience.
Ali.
P.s. Using vista, but same on windows XP.

>I think part of the problem is that i upped the saturation in camera, and the raw converters have been stripping this away to desaturate colours
The main problem is that you don't understand what a raw file is...the ONLY raw converter that can read settings set on the camera (other than exposure and ISO) are those that use the camera SDKin your case, DPP. A raw file has no real rendering and the raw converter must give it one. What you are seeing change is the difference between the Canon SDK and the Camera Raw default. And note that the Camera Raw "default" is just that, a default rendering. If you don't like it, you can change it and make the changes based on camera serial number and capture ISO as well.
What you need to do is forget the camera settings (except exposure and ISO) and concentrate on learning how to use Camera Raw to get the renderings you want...

  • Adobe cs3 and lightroom

    Hi,
Are there any MB users who can let me know if these apps run well on a 2.2 with 2mb of ram, macbook. I am a photographer who is looking to go apple and for the sort of work it will be needed for the size of the MB suits my needs rather than a MBP. Any help would be great.

My partner runs phtoshop cs3 and lightroom on a 1st gen cor duo macbook with 2mb of ram, the images take a second or two to sharpen when you open RAW images, other than that everything works pretty well, if you are buying a new one you shouldn't have any problems, go for it, you wont be disappointed.

  • Mac computer: New Nikon d300s, CS3, and Camera Raw

I just purchased a Nikon d300s. I had a Nikon d50, Mac, iPhoto, CS3, and Camera Raw 4.6.0.30. With Nikon d50,  no problem opening an image from iPhoto into Camera Raw/CS3. With the new D300s, the image opens into CS3 but does not open into Camera Raw. Do I have to buy CS4?

No, you do not have to. You can alternatively use the DNG Converter, which will process your D300S NEF files into DNG files, which can then be opened in CR 4.6 in CS3. The latest version of the DNG Converter, which supports the D300S, is currently in Release Candidate phase and is available here:

To change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Lightroom won't allow me to add file during import - only copy

I'm trying to import items to my catalog.  When I choose items from my hard drive that are NOT in dropbox, Lightroom offers me the "add" and "move" options for the files.  When I choose files that are anywhere within dropbox, it only offers the "copy" import functions.  I don't want second copies of these files - I already have them imported into my computer.  It will let me import and copy TO the Dropbox files, but won't just add from them.
One detail (that shouldn't matter, but maybe) ... Windows believes that dropbox is indeed stored on the local hard drive but only through a junction trick within Windows.  The folder is actually on a very large SDXC card permanently resident on the computer.  Windows doesn't even know this as a result of the trick being used - so Lightroom shouldn't care.  Like I said ... Lightroom lets me import and copy TO those locations but when selecting files already there it makes me copy them.  I've been using Photoshop and CR forever and this has worked fine.  Trying to use lightroom for the improved elegance of the CR feature set and the ability to non-desctructively make and save raw level changes but can't tolerate duplication of thousands of raw images.
    Help!

    Thanks for the input.
Lightroom allows me to copy TO that location on an import but not import FROM it?  So I'm allowed to import and end up with stuff there, but not allowed to start with it there.  No sense at all in that design.  That's downright restrictive and really offers no particular benefit.  Hey, Lightroom designers ... change that!
This computer is a powerful ultrabook with a 512 SSD which is as big as reasonably and cost-effective available with the addition of a 256 SDXC card to handle the additional extra capacity I need.  Not too many other reasonable options out there.  This computer is constantly on the go and the addition of an external drive hanging off of it simply isn't manageable.
    Any other tricks out there?

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 64bit constantly freezes up when importing, requiring a reboot.

    Hey folks
Running Windows 8.1 As of a week ago, Lightroom 5.7.1 64bit constantly freezes up when importing, and it take a reboot for it to successfully import again. Nothing about my operating system or environment has changed (no new devices plugged in).
    This is a total pain.
    I've uninstalled/reinstalled Lightroom, but that hasn't helped.
    Can anyone assist?  Thanks.

    Hi Panda,
I basically left it - and left it - and left it. Eventually it recovered, and started importing photos. So my experience was that it will work eventually - it just takes ages, and looks like it's hanging at first.
I think I left it for three days in total. After the spinning beach ball appearing for many hours, it did start slowly importing.
    Good luck!

I want to save the position , date and time of the stage with respect to zero.I want all these in one file, nd everytime I run it it should save to the same file, like this:

    Hi,
I know the function "write to spreadsheet file.vi"
    can append the data
to file. You can use the "concatenate strings" to display the date,
time as well as data... Hope this help.

  • Lightroom and new Raw Converters

In Photoshop we will get about each 3 months new Raw-/DNG-converters.
This was in CS, CS2 and I think it will be also in CS3.
Does anyone know, how to integrate new raw-converters in Lightroom?
Will we get parallel with raw Converter 4.0 / 4.1 / 4.2 also new versions of lightroom (1.1, 1.2, ...)?

LR has a method to get new-camera support and it will, so don't worry.

  • Processing Canon G10 RAW Images in CS3 and Lightroom 2.1

I've not found a post on point. If I've missed one, sorry.
Contemplating getting a G10. After research here's what I understand. Please, correct me if I am wrong:
    1. To process a G10 image in ACR, one has to have 5.2. One cannot use 5.2 in CS3. To process the image in CS3 one has to first convert to DNG. This can be done by way of a separate converter OR in Lightroom 2.1, on import.
    2. Lightroom 2.1 will process the image in either RAW or DNG formats.
So, since I own both Lightroom and CS3 -- I will be able to use ACR in Lightroom if I don't want to convert to DNG first.
    Am I right?
I don't want to buy the camera if I can't use my usual workflow.
    Thanks.
    sjh
PS. I think my CS4 Master Suite will arrive tomorrow. But, there is a lot of odd information about ACR and the G10 out there so I thought I'd take the time to clear it up and see if I got it right.

Lightroom 2.1 does NOT support native files from the G10. LR 2.2, which will be released in December will. So for both programs you need to use the Adobe DNG converter 5.2 to convert to DNG for the time being. It is unclear whether when you have LR 2.2 and CS3 installed whether "Edit in Photoshop" will work correctly with files from cameras such as the G10. It will always work fine if you use dng.

  • Camera raw images change colour in adobe bridge

I have photoshop CS4 and import my camera raw images into Adobe Bridge.  When I view the thumbnails in bridge my raw images look vibrant and exactly like they appear on the camera but when I go to open them in camera raw edit they change colour and look washed out before I've made any changes.  Can anyone help me figure out how to correct this?

    ssprengel wrote:
My camera is set to shoot sRGB JPGs and is set to all zeros for the brightness/contrast/saturation parameters.
What is your camera set to as far as these basic toning settings, as well as any automatic things like DLighting or highlight compression and perhaps any custom curves or whatever that is called for Nikons?
First paragraph - so is mine.
Second paragraph - all other settings are neutral/zeroed/turned off, as per my post to which you responded. That is, no additional tone curves - Active D-Lighting turned OFF (why anyone would let the camera decide what to do do with highlights and shadows is beyond my level of trust) , Jpg compression is Optimal (least possible) et cetera.
Think I now have an explanation for the different displays in ACR (and Bridge) that I have been experiencing. Took a new duplicate Jpg/Raw shot with the in-camera Picture Control set to Neutral. Now, when both the Jpg and .NEF Raw are viewed in ACR, with the ACR Camera profile set to Camera Neutral, they appear, ASAICT, identical. Saved Camera Neutral as the default ACR Camera profile. Now back in Bridge, the images also appear pretty much identical.
I think what was happening previously was that I had failed to save Camera Standard in ACR as the default Camera profile, and it was defaulting to Adobe Standard, and hence it was rendering Raw thumbnails for Bridge to that Camera profile - hence the difference in appearance between the Jpg and Raw in Bridge. Unless I have got it completely wrong,  I think my problem is now solved.

  • Canon 5D Mark II, Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2.4

    All,
I know that this has to have been answered elsewhere, but I have not found what I'm looking for.
I have purchased a new Canon 5D Mark II camera which will arrive Wednesday.  As far as software on my Mac Pro, I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium, which includes (obviously) Photoshop CS3.  I am also running Lightroom 2.4.  I am under the understanding that in order to open RAW files from the 5D Mark II, you need to have Adobe Camera Raw 5.X, which is not supported by Photoshop CS3.  I also understand that Lightroom 2.4 CAN open the 5D Mark II RAW files.  First off, are both of my statements to this point accurate?  If so, can I use Lightroom to open the RAW files, do whatever adjusting I would like in Lightroom, then export the modified file (in TIFF, for example) to Photoshop CS3, and go on my way?  Or will this not work?
If the answer is no, what are my options for using the software that I have with my Canon 5D Mark II?  Am I REQUIRED, now, to upgrade to Photoshop CS4?  If so, can I buy the CS4 Upgrade for Design Premium, if my CS3 Design Premium is the Education version?
Thanks for any help on this...I'm hoping to avoid spending any more money than I need to in software just to be able to process images from my new camera.  I'm sure I could always use the Canon supplied software to open the RAW files, but I'd prefer to do so in the Adobe family of programs.

    cabasner,
I upgraded to CS4 when I got my 5D2, and I can't stress enough how much better CS4 is. It's worth the upgrade even if you didn't get the 5D2. It's more stable that CS3, and ACR is insanely better (as is the Bridge... that's actually usable now!). ACR in CS4 has Adjustment brushes for Exposure... that's right, touch-up areas in ACR and it's totally non-destructive. Vibrance has been added also. In PS, your Dodge & Burn tools have a totally new algorithm which works so much better it's nuts. You even have a Legacy checkbox to see the difference. With the insane amount of image data in the 5D2, those tools work very well. You also have OpenGL support in CS4 now, which means you can view the image at any percentage and it looks like 25/50/75/100. And since your graphics card is now used, Photoshop CS4 is FASTER. And with the Clone Tool you can see what will be put down on the image inside the tool's circle, BEFORE you press the mouse. Talk about an easy way to line up the edit! Oh, then there's all the Adjustment layers... man, talk about a non-destructive time-saving edit! And the panels now stay off to the side, not covering up the image anymore. There's more, I'm, not even remembering everything. Adobe got PS right with this version. I would spring for CS4 in a New York minute, it's the perfect partner for our 5D2s.
