CS3 and printing to an Epson 7800 (Mac OS10.5)

I have an Epson 7800 printer. With Photoshop CS3 not all the print setting choices are available(after hitting "Print" from the first, new Print Dialog window). I get the new Print Dialog window, but when I hit Print and then try and choose Print Settings or Color Management (for example) they are all crossed out. When will an update be available that corrects this? Right now I have to access printing thru CS2 so that I can set everything as needed; in particular, turning off the printers Color Management! As a further note, on the Epson 7600 everything is available via CS3 and the new print dialog window--there is no problem. Again, the problem seems to stem from CS3 plus the Epson 7800. Thanks.

I had this problem in April 07. Wish I wrote down how I solved it because I upgraded to Leopard and have the same problem with the lines running through color management etc in the print dialog box. I found one guy on the Mac helpline who knew the answer. It was a simple fix.

  • Photoshop CS3 and Light Room color issues on Mac

    Hi,
I'm a photographer and I work mostly on my Mac. Recently however I started having issues when editing in Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 as the colors are very off from Lightroom.
I attached these 2 images to show the differences.
From Photoshop or directly from camera into Lightroom images look fine but after being edited in Lightroom and exported they look all brownish - green in Photoshop and on any other computer as well in print.
I try to research it a bit online and it seems it all has to do with color profiles but can't get to the bottom of it.
I tried to change the lightroom from ProPhoto RGB to Adobe RGB 1998 but it does not seem to work.
The Photoshop is set on Monitor RGB and all images from Photoshop are fine on other computers and in print.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks.

Well, I think what you need to do is get a better grasp on the fundimentals of color management-which is a bit beyond the scope of what the forums can offer you.
The bottom line is that Lightroom & Photoshop CSx (meaning past CS or actually even back to 7) can and does make use of display profiles (you can't turn it off even if Photoshop has a setting that makes you think you can). An image in Lightroom and Photoshop is always color managed...outside of an app that is color management, all bets are off.
Save, assigning and converting to profiles are all very different. Photoshop CS3's color settings are absolutely critical because that's how you deal with managed and unmanaged color.
Until you learn different, I would suggest that you set your CS3 color settings to North American PrePress 2....if you want images for the web, Convert To sRGB or use the new Save For Web (which can now do the sRGB conversion-finally).
For other uses and purposes, I would suggest that you seriously consider using Adobe RGB-until such time that you understand the implications of using Pro Photo RGB.

  • Can I use CS3 and CS6 both on the same Mac?

    Hello
I just purchased the upgrade from CS3 ti CS6 web and design premium MLP TLP.
Before to install I need to know if I can use both CS on the same Mac, to avoid problems with old files and be sure I could work.
Also I need to know if I can install CS6 on the two Mac internal hard drives, one with Snow Leopard MacOS (10.6.8) and one with the Lion MacOS (10.7.x). In some cases I must use Snow Leopard for compatibility issue with other software.
    Thanks a lot

Installing on two partitions uses two activations, but can be done with no issue. There is no issue on running CS3 and CS6 on the same Mac. However, there is no guarentee that running CS3 on a newer machine will be totally error free. But I think for the most part you should be ok on Snow Leopard.

  • Illustrator CS3 and CS4 crashes on two different Mac Pro systems

We have two Mac pro systems. Both are running 10.5.6. As of this morning both systems crash when trying to save files from Illustrator CS3 and CS4.
I'm not sure if this started with a corrupted file, and when we tried to work with it on both machines it effected both.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Do use TimeMachine for data;
    SuperDuper for imaging the system;
Clone the system at least twice: known good backup image and for testing.
Clone or image can be just a sparse image created with Disk Utility.
I would also keep user accounts separate from the system and on 2nd drive.
Rather than reinstall, use alternate systems. You may even need to do what others have learned to, one system for specific task or configuration.
    Use different user accounts.
Don't rule out plist or preference settings or corruption.
Normally I use Disk Warrior to keep a system maintained but TechTool Pro (5.01) will do more to check files for integrity and errors, and useful addition.
If I was building a sytem today, I'd probably use 10K WD VelociRaptor or two for system, some scratch drives in stripped RAID for editing and saving work, and then media drive(s). With 3 backup sets of work.
Apple now sells OS X 10.5.6 on DVD, replacing the 10.5.4 (and 10.5.0, shame there is no upgrade program) so they must feel 10.5.6 is gold. Not all software and hardware though does, but Sonnet just posted updates for their SATA Tempo card drivers. When it comes to production, newest and latest is not usually best.

  • Cs3 and printing

I have CS3 InDesign and an old HP Laserjet 4M printer. It seems i can't print from ID. It reads the ppd because all the options for the printer are there and when I hit print it downloads as it should. The printer's lights blink as they should when it's reading the data. Only problem is, when the printer is finished reading the data, it goes back to "ready" and doesn't actually print anything.
If I save the ID files as a PS file and open it in Preview (Mac), the file prints fine. Anybody know why I can't get a native ID file to rpint to the laserjet?
    thanks

  • Mountain Lion and Printing on an Epson R1800

I have an Epson R1800, which according to Apple, is supported in Mountain Lion. Now, this printer worked nearly flawlessly until upgrading to ML. Now that I have, the printer just kicks out sheets of blank paper and I am always told that the printer's media isn't loaded correctly. I have tried deleting the printer and adding a new one in the Sys Pref as well as trying the Gutenprint drivers. Nothing is allowing me to print. Has anyone had any issues like this, or able to aid in troubleshooting this?

    Dave,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
“Offending Command” could be a number of different issues, i.e., font(s), LZW compression of tiff images, memory etc.
Is this a new problem, i.e., printing from the G5 to the Epson 3000 worked before?
Can you find more info on the error by using the Console utility?
What application and version are you using?
With Stylus RIP, are you using Classic (since the RIP is for OS 9) on the G5?
Have you tried printing the document(s) directly from the G4?
Alternatively, try making your doc a PDF and then print the PDF doc.
If the doc is a multiple page, you could try to isolate the problem by printing a certain page(s), or deleting an image (if there is one).
Hope this helps and let us know what happens.

  • CS4 and Printing to an Epson Stylus Photo R800

I am printing to the above printer and using the Epson Luster Premium Paper. I still get confused about how to set the print settings in Photoshop. Do I choose the document/proof, do I let the printer or Photoshop control the printing, and in the printer dialog box, do I choose ICM/OFF?  Is there a clear set of instructions for consistent prints? I am trying to print B/W and took my PS file and used the Lab Lightness Channel technique to turn my color image into a BW. Should I being doing something to this image before trying to print? Flatten? Any help will be appreciated.
    Regards

    You're on the right track.
In the Photoshop print dialog, under color management, choose
    1. Document
    2. Photoshop Manages Color
    3. Under printer profile, pick the Epson-provided profile for the paper you want.
Then click "Print Settings" to open the Epson printer driver dialog. There you do two things:
    1. Choose the paper type (this is important as it controls the amount of ink)
    2. Choose ICM, and tick "Off". This turns off printer color management.
I don't have your Epson model, but AFAIK it works the same in all of them.

  • CS5 print dialog missing Epson 7800 profiles

Is there a simple way to get my Epson printer profiles to load onto CS5. I'm normally quite good at solving these things by myself, but this case has me well stumped. Help anyone?

Again: in CS5, the profiles that the driver says belong to the selected printer will show up at the top of the menu. Any custom profiles you have built for that printer will also be in the menu, in the normal alphabetical list.
If there are no profiles at the top, that is because the driver hasn't identified any profiles as belonging to the chosen printer.
If there are no additional profiles listed, that is because there is a problem with how you installed them on the system.
We haven't seen any problems with this yet.

  • All CAPTURE AND PRINT files saved on my mac are blank -what is the problem

I installed the Capture & print Add-on on my Macbook Air and captured areas of several web pages and saved them to a folder on my desktop. All the add-on files are blank with zero data captured.
What must I do to remedy this.
    Many thanks for assistance.
    Ant Johnson

How did you save them? Did you paste the captures into an image editor and save the image?
Support for that extension can be found here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2318993

  • I cannot printany web pages or emails over a wireless home network. My OS is windows 7 and am using an Epson printer. I know I have the home network set up correctly as i can print files over the network.

I cannot print any email or web pages over a wireless home network. I know that I can print my files over this network, just not anything from the web or emails using Firefox. I am using Windows 7 and printing to an Epson.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== when I set up the wireless home network.

The most likely reason for this is that the wrong printer is chosen in the File->Print window.
In Firefox, go to File->Print and click the dropdown box with printer names. Ensure that the correct network printer is selected, then try printing again.

  • Need to upgrade, concerned about running epson 7800  from 10.6

My G5 is dying, and might have to get a new Mac Pro. Does anyone know if I'll be able to use my existing icc profiles in CS2 on Snow Leopard, to print on an Epson 7800? I have print editions in progress, and need to be able to continue working in the same color environment.
Can I possibly get a new Mac and run 10.5.8 on it instead of 10.6?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Epson's Web site does list a driver for OS X 10.6 for that printer. In addition, this Apple page
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#epson
    does mention a "Gutenprint" driver.
Can I possibly get a new Mac and run 10.5.8 on it instead of 10.6?
No. In general, a Mac can't run a version of OS X older than the one that first shipped with it. However, you could buy a used Mac that runs OS X 10.5.8. MacTracker (http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/) will give you information of the version of OS X that was current for each model.

  • Very New to Graphic Design and Printing

Hi - I have recently gotten into graphic design for print...invitations, etc, and I purchased an Epson R1900 for my studio.  This is my first printer purchase and I am also very new to CS5 (self-teaching over the last 2-3 months).  So, you can only imagine my printer frustrations...first I had color management issues (still do, but much closer than before due to online research) and now I am trying to load custom paper and print from Illustrator (also using Mac with OSX 10.5.8).  I keep getting a message saying "The source selected in the printer driver is not appropriate for the paper that is loaded in the printer."  What is going on?  I can't have printer issues every time I go to print something!!!  Please help me!

In your Applications folder there should be an Epson Printer Utility. You need to change to the custom size there at the driver level and then again in your print dialog when printing the file.
Many problems with Epson Printer Drivers. In my case I could never get the printer utility to show up on my Mac (even after updating drivers, resetting my printers, troubleshooting with Epson, etc). I finally gave up and started using my PC to print to this printer, so I could change to custom size and roll fed.
    Good luck.

  • LPI/DPI not changing dot size in Illustrator CS3 when printing HELP!

I'm having to us my wife's laptop which is an HP running windows vista. I am using Illustrator CS3 and printing with a Ricoh Aficio AP610N Adobe PostScript3 printer. All this I could do on my laptop before it messed up and it would work fine. Now though on my wife's laptop when I go to print a spot color with any type of halftone or gradient mesh and I change the lpi/dpi in the print dialogue box down to say like 25 or 30 from 106 the dots are still printing out very very tiny. There not printing out 25 or 30 dots per inch. There still at like 106 or 225 lpi/dpi. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! Why wont they change to what I set it to??? Am i over looking something??? Again all this worked fine on my laptop I could change the lpi/dpi to 35 and they would print out big I could actually see them. And now on my wife's laptop they just keep printing out small real fine dots. The only difference between my laptop & hers is mines was a 64bit & hers is only a 32bit. Please help me someone!!!!!!!!!!!

Look for printer settings in the printer's driver dialog that overide document halftone settings. Some HP laser printers, for example, have a so-called "resoution enhancement" setting that is on by default, and that overrides the document halftone rulings. It's quite possible you have turned such a setting off on your machine, but have not done so on your wife's.

  • Saving and printing documents

Anyone know how to save documents and print them on Epson Stylus 600FW? I´ve got the Epson iprint App but I can`t find the documents. I can print photos, that means he finds the printer but no documents

You need an app to handle the documents. Documents to go, Pages or another one. files are associated with apps so if you don't have an app to handle the file, the iPad doesn't deal with it.
If you want to experiment, find a free document reader app, open your documents (most apps either have a file transfer protocol or you can e-mail the files to yourself then open them in that app) and see if you can send them to the printer.

  • Wireless print server that works with Macs and Epson R1800?

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a wireless print server, which I could use as if the printer was connected directly to my Mac. So basically, it just needs to have printing over IP port (like port 9100 on HP JetDirect) and drivers for Mac OS X (or ideally, no special drivers needed at all). Devices that do sharing of the printer only over LPD (older Unix), SMB (Windows), IPP (Cups / newer Unix) or similar protocols is not what I'm looking for here.
The reason why LPD, SMB and IPP are not an option is that I'll need utilities such as Epson Printer Utility to work over the network too.
It looks like Linksys, Belkin and some other have products that allow access to the printer over port 9100 (standard HP JetDiret's port) as if the printer was connected directly to the computer. However, for the most part I was able to find only success stories for Windows users.
Windows has standard driver that allows connection to the printer to be easily switched from USB port to network port. Does OS X comes standard with that feature, or is the special driver needed?
Most importantly, has anybody had success with printing from Mac through wireless print server (any brand) to Epson R1800? Did the Epson Print Utility (checking the ink levels, checking and cleaning the head, etc) work? Any special drivers needed?
    Thanks

direwolf has hit the nail on the head - the Epson driver won't work for IP printing. The Epson driver is a Carbon driver, where they build the comm protocols into the driver instead of enabling use of the standard protocols on OS X (that are part of the CUPS system). You'll need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocol(s). The printfab driver is a CUPS driver.
Exception - the Apple Extreme/Express/etc print servers have firmware that make them work like Macs - Mac-to-Mac sharing works with USB-only drivers! I hesitate to recommend the Extreme/Express, because Apple can't seem to get all the kinks out.
