CS3 and Windows 8.1 compatibility

As above: After an system update my CS3 doen't run anymore. I suspect this update is a purpose of it. As for now, I cannot run,. re-install or even uninstall CS3 from control panel.
If I try to run CS3 setup file, it takes a long while for preparing installation and then nothing. When I re-run setup it says I must finish the previous installation process.
Any help, i.e. possible patches, appreciated.
Kind regards
Piotr Dylewicz

The general opinion is that it is not compatible. Not sure if there is an official Adobe report on this.
Here are a couple sites you can go to to read about it

  • CS3 and windows 7.

I have cs3 and windows 7 64 bit.  I was able to run cs3 in xp, but everytime I try 7 it hangs up right before it asks for my serial number.  The installation is perfect, everything goes great, but when I open cs3 it opens up a blank cs3 window, and the curser timer starts and that is all.  when I click anywhere it says "not responding".
I have heard of this before in this forum... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/377888
The guy was running vista and got it to work through this.... http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3750
But I am running windows 7 and vista doesnt work on here, is there a license thing for windows 7?
I have been looking for weeks!!!!
    I reformated my pc twice!
    Someone PLEASE help.
    Thank you.

Little confused here. How can CS3 install perfect when the serial number is not installed?
When you install PS CS3 on Windows 7 you have to install the software itself as Admin. Put the disk in but don't install. Choose explore the disk or open and then look for the PS CS3 folder. Open the folder and locate the .exe file. Right click on the .exe file and select run as Admin.
Before you do the install ensure windows defender is turned off. Ensure any anti-virus is not running. If adobe reader is installed remove it. ensure no other adobe product is running in the background.
I do not have CS3 installe but when CS4 is installed on windows 7 it will hang around 90 percent complete and will take 10 to 15 mins to finish. Might not be true for CS3 though....
    After install, reboot computer.
After reboot, go to start, all programs and right click on PS CS3. Choose properties, compatibility, and check run as Admin. Hit apply then ok to close.
Click on PS CS3 to see if it will start. If it runs update to 10.0.1
Now if you have any problems running CS3 after all this right click on PS CS3, properties, compatibility, and check run this program in compatibility mode for: Choose Vista SP2. If you have display problems then go back to this tab and check disable visual themes and also check Disable desktop composition.
Hudechrome, a regular poster on here, has installed CS3 on Windows 7 before so maybe he might chime in with his words of wisdom (or something like that). I am not sure if he did what i wrote to install CS3 on windows 7. I error on a caution side of things.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and Windows 8 Issues

I have Dreamwever CS3 and Windows 8 and I keep getting errors that can only be resolved by closing down DW and losing the work I have processed so far. I happens mostly when I use extentions such as Webassaist Data Bridge. I have visited their forum but they advised me to checkout you trouble shooting service.
    Please advise

    Hi,
If Dreamweaver is working fine without the extensions, I am not sure if we should be troubleshooting Dreamweaver. Just to be sure, Windows 8 is not a supported version for Dreamweaver CS3. It could possibly work, but wouldn't have been tested on Windows 8 as Adobe supports only the previous two versions of any software.
This is my best answer. You could wait for other experts for their opinion.

  • Mouse pointer Problem with CS3 and windows 7

    Upgraded
to a new PC which has Windows 7(32bit) as an operating system. Installed my Photoshop CS3 and everything seems ok except when I magnify in the navagator panel. Once I zoom in my mouse pointer changes to 3 hands in the navigator panel. I powered up my old laptop which has Vista and my CS3
then matched up the mouse settings in the control panel on the new PC. Used the same usb mouse on both PC's, the older Vista laptop worked fine but the windows 7 PC would get a tripple pointer in the navigation panel when I magnified. In the windows 7 laptop I then set the compatibility for Photoshop CS3 to run in XP mode but the problem did not clear. I see in FAQ for CS4 people have complained about tripple cursers in windows 7 but the replies indicated that the recommended fix did not work. Any help apreciated.
    Tom

Thanks for your solution. I by changing the setting to 125% I am now able to use CS3 without tripple pointers.
My eyesight is challenged so the decrease in text is a challenge but I can change the setting when I will use CS3 so I have a workarount.
    Thanks,

  • Thumbs Up To Upgrading To CS3 and Windows Vista

    Hi Folks,
After several years of using Dreamweaver 8 on my antiquated,
10-year old, 700MZ DELL (upgraded from Windows 98SE to Windows XP),
I finally bought a new HP with Windows Vista. Then I upgraded from
DW8 to CS3 ($199) and couldn't be happier. I used to have the old
XP "login" issue (remembering the login) and was never able to
resolve it, despite using the recommened fix I found here, so it
was something I just lived with.
But that's all behind me now. This new DW works great with
Vista and so far, I have no issues whatsoever. Looking forward to
learning more about CS3 and all it's features.
I'm a total novice... (you can tell by viewing my website:
LBIBeachRentals.com ... LOL), but if I can do it, anyone can. Many
thanks again to everyone who has helped me in the past,
particularly Peggy and Murray from OC.

downloaded the original version from a website so I don't have a
disc to reload onto my new computer. Here's my question. Do I need
to have the old version of dreamweaver 8 uploaded before I can use
the CS3 or CS4 version? Or, is the CS3 or CS4 a total package with
the old program being obsolete? I appreciate your answer!
I did much the same recently - (upgrade) from MX to CS3. I
was using a boxed set but all I needed were the qualifying serial
numbers of two MX programs for an upgrade. The applications were
self standing and I never had to install the old ones.
I would suggest turning the Vista Aero interface off -
particularly if you also have Fireworks - after that it is great.

  • Indesign cs3 and windows 8.1

I'm having trouble installing indesign cs3 with Windows 8.1.  The program says I need to upgrade screen resolution.  My lowest screen resolution is the minimum required.  I have the highest.  Any options or ideas for getting past this?

I was able to get it running with Windows 8 (64-bit), but it did take a few tries, and I have not played with all the software yet.  I have used Photoshop and Illustrator successfully, and I've opened InDesign.  I remember having to copy a file off of the installation disk to my desktop and renaming it to "AdobePDF.dll" -- I think it had 64 in the original file name.  During the install, it said it could not find that file, and that trick worked.  (I only remember because that file is still on my desktop.)
My question is: Has anyone who has CS3 running on Windows 8 upgraded to windows 8.1?
My computer keeps asking me, but I don't want to break CS3. I don't use it a whole lot, but when I need it, I want it to work.
    Thank you for any replies!

  • Reinstall issues CS3 and Windows 8.1

I am trying to reinstall my CS3 Extended on Windows 8.1.  My CD says the installer is corrupt.  I downloaded the installer from the website and it says that the installer database is corrupt.  Is here a fix?

I believe the reason is because pse 9 and pre 10 are already installed.
Some others with the same problem have mentioned that after unistalling both pse 9 and pre 10 and then cleaning out all the adobe files, then cs3 installs.
Then you can reinstall pse 9 and pre 10.
Before doing any of the above, make sure can get both pse 9 and pre 10 plus the serials from the manufacturer of your computer.

  • After Effects CS3 and Windows 7 (32 or 64bit)

Hi just a quick question.  As I'm not a real tech expert.  I was going to upgrade to Windows 7.  In the 32 bit version is the amount of RAM use limited to only 4 gigabytes? And in the 64 bit version is After Effects CS3 free to use as much you put in your computer? I have a quad core cpu and wanted to take advantage of the multicore rendering.
That's important piece of info I need before upgrading.
    Thanks very much,
    James

After effect is a 32bit application, so it won't be able to get more than 4GB of ram per process. If Windows 7 32 is like Windows Vista 32, AE won't be able to use more than 2Gb per process and more that 2,7gb as a whole because of Windows limitations.
As AE CS3 & CS4 are 32bit application, even in 64bit environnement, they won't be able to use more than 4gb of ram in a single process, but if you enable multiprocessing, each new instances of AE will be able to access to 4gb of ram also, with a max of 16b of ram.
If you have a quad core, and want to use all your processor cores, you will need at least 8gb of ram, because AE needs at least 2gb per core.
So my advice is, drop Win 7 32bit for a Win 7 x64 AE will love you more, and use more of your power.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and Windows 7

We were just upgraded to Windows 7 from XP at work and althought my CS3 suite is not showing any signs of problems, Dreamweaver has this bug where when I am browins for a site folder using the Edia Sites dialog box, the settings don't save any folders deeper than one level, so for example, if I am locating the testing server location for a site, and that location is X:\devsites\sites\site4 and during the session I dorows to that location and open that site4 folder and click ok to select it, DW CS3 only takes the devcites folder top level as the desired folder. I have to manually type the path in the testing server folder field in order for DW CS3 to accept the location. Is there any support currently provided for bugs of CS3 since CS4 is already out?

  • Encore  CS3 and Windows 7

Windows 7 advisor is telling me that it will be a minor issue to run Encore CS3 under the new platform. Does Adobe have any plans to address this issue?

Some users have had good luck with Win7. However, two recent builds seem to have broken much that is Adobe. Their systems ran fine, until one of the later builds. The next build did not fix things. Have not heard where Win7 is now. Hope that MS was able to fix, whatever broke things Adobe. That is what beta testing is all about, so long as beta testers report back to MS.
As for Adobe working on Win7, it will not happen until Adobe gets the full release of Win7. Right now, it's a moving target and is still in beta, regardless of what characters appear after the Win7 name.
I'd anticipate that CS5 will be certified for Win7, provided that it's out by the release of CS5.
Personally, I'd wait for Win7 SP1 and use whichever verson of Encore is approved for Win7, but then I have work to get out, and do not have time to beta test OS's.

  • CS3 and Windows 2000

I'm going to presume that CS3 does not support Windows 2000, as searches of the knowledgebase, Forum and FAQ yielded no info, and the CS3 System Requirements does not mention Windows 2000 at all.
Can someone please confirm this for me? Thanks in advance.

You can do that in XP (only Professional, not Home Edition) - just disable Simple file sharing in Folder options. Vista doesn't need that option - it provides the ability by default (though you have to click an awful lot of buttons)

  • CS3 dds drivers and Windows 7 64bit issue

I have photoshop CS3 working however I can't load the dds drivers. I've tried everything see below. Anyone been able to load the Nvidia dds drivers?
What is the proper proceedure to effectively install the DDS files in CS3 in a windows 7 64 bit environment?
I tried the 32 bit and 64 bit files and when I use the 32 bit file i get an error opening up photoshop that says missing D3x9_43.dll, and I don't have the option to save in a .dds format. If I uninstall the dds 32 bit program the missing D3x9_43.dll error goes away.
When I load 64 bit version no errors but I still don't have the option to save in .dds format. Kind of frustrating..................
I've just uninstalled and cleaned CS3. I've done a new fresh load of CS3. What are the correct steps from here?
Which file should I download? etc.
    Thank you in advance.
Ok, I've tried everything I can find.
I let the 32 bit dds program load to a seperate folder and manually transfered the files to the proper folders in Photoshop and still get the same results as above. I tried renaming them and removing the 32 extensions and still no go. I did the same thing with the 64 bit program and still no go.
The 32 bit program said it was still looking for the D3X9_43.dll file for some reason. I haven't tried downloading that file since I don't know where to put it.
Can someone please help me. Has anyone got the DDS files to work with CS3 and Windows 7?
    Thank you
    Bill

Got it fixed. I loaded the drivers from my old XP machine. drivers are from 2007. Don't remember where I got them from but they worked.  I can save dds files again.
    Thank you for the reply.

  • OTF/PS fonts have recently stopped rendering in Flash Pro CS3 on Windows 7/64

Recently, a number of my OTF/PS fonts have stopped rendering when used in Flash Pro CS3. The fonts appear in the fonts menu, render properly in the font preview popup in the font menu, but the fonts fail to render on stage when used, with certain exceptions:
--If Bitmap Text is selected, the fonts appear (but aliased)
--If Anti-alias for animation is selected, then the text appears when text insertion is active in the text box, but vanishes when focus shifts to another element, tool, selection
In all other cases and for all other settings (yes, including black text with 100% alpha on a white background, etc etc), the text shows solely as transparent. You can select the text (although not see what you're selecting), cut and paste, and as you change the font size, kerning, justification, bold, italic, etc, the text boxes resize as normally expected; simply, the text does not show up.
The fonts work normally in all other CS3 and Windows applications, and up until about last week (Dec 12 or so), used to work fine in Flash.
The problem fonts appear to be (primarily Open Type Format) Post Script Outline fonts.
I have installed all Windows updates, Flash Pro CS3 updates, deleted the Flash user config files, deleted and reinstalled the fonts, and copied the fonts to the C:/user/Program Files/Common/Adobe/Fonts folder.
There were no new installations (applications, fonts, etc) around the time when the error started showing up, aside from possibly Windows updates.
Given the timing (worked fine Tuesday, failed on Wednesday), I believe a Windows update may have been at least partially responsible, though perhaps it's the Mayan apocalypse.
