Switching from Quark to Indy in work this weekend . Other, more scary software in the mix, thus stress mixed with elation. No time for research, so this is a blatant brain-picking exercise.
Is it possible to discover by script the "geometric bounds" of an individual paragraph in a story, ie the coordinates of its location in a spread?
While the scripting guide is excellently informative on the topic of creating new things, it is not so hot on this sort of "forensic" scripting, discovering what has been going on after the fact.

You can get the horizontal offset of characters, so you can use that to get the X values. And you can get the baseline of the first and last lines, as well as the ascent of characters in the first line -- that gives you the Y values.
And do yourself a favor and get Script Debugger for its Explorer view -- you'll learn so much more about InDesign's object model.

Saving a flash file from cs3 to cs4 ruins the file!

Last time I used flash for an urgent commission I discovered a very heavy bug, which did cost me half a day of work and nearly the whole commission. What happened:
I saved a flash file originally created with Flash CS4 as CS3 because the Actionscript programmer did not have a newer version. When I reopened the changed file and typed CMD+S it saved the file without warning. This was momentous: when I re-opened the file, only the library contents did show up, the timeline and stage was empty. Trying to publish the movie again resulted in a program crash. Thus I had to rebuilt the whole flashfile from scratch the next day and calm down a very nervous (and important) customer. Since then I always chose "Save as" and change the format to "CS3", and – how about that! – the file stays intact.
So HOW can a software have a glitch like this be on the market? I would suggest to Adobe that the rework the whole code because flash seems to be very poorly coded. I experienced numerous minor bugs in the last years, but this one beats them all. You save a file and ruin it.
If anybody else has experienced this, I would like them to share their experiences. Not just with me – share them with the people responsible for this. Write to Adobe.

Just save. It'll open in previous versions.
BUT if you used features that are specific to CS6 (like vector strokes) those may not show up in previous versions.
If you want everything to show, flatten the image and save a copy.
If you want to show the structure of the file - avoid features that are new in CS6 and save as PSD..

I am developing a project that it has to do with the surroundings of bioingenieria. I want to obtain data of the people who have problems of cuadraplegia or fisicas limitations, that interactuen with the computer like a transmitting ultrasonico sensor in the part later of the head with a panel of nine receiving sensors parallel to the trasmisor sensor to simulate the movements of mouse in the screen and with the pulse of the captured one and extended the signal to open and to close the icons that esten in the computer.
the Problem to solve.
With mouse it manages to watch as they are the plots that one sends when it sends the information of the sensors or like the simulation of the movement of mouse. the problem is that I want to know how when one connects mouse to the computer as it is the plot of recognition between the computer and mouse, for asi to generate the movement. depending on the signals sent by the sensors. Knowing clearly that I must follow to standar of the plotted one of bit that sends mouse to the computer.

Teniendo claro que tengo que seguir un standar del tramado de bit que remite el mouse al computador.

CS3 vs CS4 - worth the $ difference?

Hi,
Just wondering, I am about to purchase CS... should I stick with CS3, and buy at a discount or go for Version 4??
anyone got any idea what the benefits to 4 are? I know I should go and spend hours in google, but i figured I could get a quick run down from the people in the know...
BTW i am running an intel macbook with 4Gb of RAM

Hard to make that determination since I don't know what your needs are. I've found CS4 to be a good bit faster (I'm not counting the tests I've reported in another thread that have to do exclusively with 100GB+ scratch disk usage) but not a night and day difference.
The CS4 UI seems much more mature. CS2 to CS3 had some big changes. CS3 to CS4 changes seem less dramatic, but finally gets it right. Not saying they can't make it better, but it seems like CS4's UI is what they meant to do with CS3.
If you're buying the whole suite, I'd definitely say CS4. Illustrator CS4 seems like a home run. However, I used Freehand for a decade before I started using and cursing at Illustrator four or five years ago. If you've always loved Illustrator it could be an unwelcome departure but to me it's like Adobe finally got a clue, took some of the Freehand concepts and turned Illustrator (almost) into a best-of-both-worlds application.
Also, take what I say with a grain (or a big ol' rock) of salt. I've only had about six hours with CS4 and so I'm talking from first impressions here.

All of a sudden I can't forward my emails because when I go to choose the people to send them too the window won't pop up. The same thing for any other site that uses a pop up window. What do I do?

It happened all of a sudden, any site that requires a new window to open to sign up for something or to choose something it just won't do it. I can't forward any emails because in order to choose the people I'm sending the email to, a new small window with my address book pops up and Mozilla won't let it happen. How can I change this back to the way it was?

Are any of your other applications going wonky, or is it just Logic?
I'm afraid I've never heard of this particular problem before, but if it were happening to me the first thing I would do is delete my "com.apple.logic.express.plist" file in Library>Preferences, then repair permissions in Disc Utility, and finally restart my computer. Then I would launch Logic and see if the problem has been corrected. It's amazing how much these two steps can accomplish.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I would launch Logic and go to Preferences>Audio Units Manager to see if all my plug-ins are properly validated.

For all the people on the fence with Creative products

To whom it may concern,
I have been using Creative lab products since the original Soundblaster series was introduced for public consumption oh so many years ago....and I have never been happier with a manufacturer when it comes to sound cards.
Not one manaufacture puts the features or quality into their soundcards like creative does, and their driver support has been pretty top-notch over the years.
Now no one is perfect, but I find it funny that after building 500+ PC's in the past 8 years, that I seem to be the only one in this forum (besides the admin and mods) that has had almost ZERO problems with their soundcards (And I personally have owned everything from a Soundblaster ISA to the Audigy 2 ZS).
I've installed countless other brands of soundcards in customer machines (And only because the customer was "a cheapskate" and deemed cost was more important than quality.) And everytime I've had a customer come back to complain about the horrible sound problems, replacing the el' cheapo soundcard with a SoundBlaster ALWAYS took care of the problem...and If had my way, I would never sell a machine without one.
BUT, as long as their are UN-INFORMED CHEAPSKATES that insist on spending the absolute BOTTOM DOLLAR on thier computers, your gonna see the same typical "my soundcard dont work, and its everybody's fault but mine" complaints in forums like this one.
Half or more of the people that post their gripes and complaints in this forum are the same type of idiots that refuse to spend more than 300.00 on a PC, expect it to run like they spent 3,000.00, then cant figure out why the thing dont work worth a crap every time they use it or try to upgrade it.
If most of these people just did some research before they just ran out to wal-mart to buy their computer, and maybe took a class or bought a couple of books (AND READ THEM), most of these complaints and gripes would dissappear.
I've found that 95% of the problems with soundcard installs has nothing with the card itself (Short of a driver issue)....nearly every problem with a non-functioning soundcard stems from either improper BIOS configuration, improper PCI slot selection for the card, or just a CHEAP / GENERIC MOTHERBOARD.
As with anything else in life.....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...if you spend 50 dollars on a junk motherboard when you shoulda spent 50.00....WHAT THE HECK DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF IT.
With all that said.... I know this was a long rant, but I couldnt take seeing how so many people in this forum do nothing but cut down on creative for problems that were most likely the fault of the user to begin with.
REMEMBER PEOPLE.....GIGO, Computers only do what their told to do.

How to populate a field in an Infopath form based on the people picker input - only OOTB approach

I have 3 lists : Resource , Project, Contract
In "Contract" list i have created a form with MS Infopath 2010. This form is used to collect data of a new resource joining a project . This form also takes the information about the resource's costs.
Scenario :
Project informations are already present in the "Project" list.
Any new resource who will be joining a project will be added in the "Resource" list at first . This list has its own form to do so. While adding this resource the form asks for the project which should be assigned. This is dealt with.
"Contract" list : In this lists form their is a people picker field where the resource email id(already inserted in "Resource" list earlier) will be typed by me. There is a field which will capture the project name.
Issue in "Contract" list:
When i type the resource email id and click on the people picker icon , the project field in the form should get auto populated with the corresponding project of the existing resource so that i donot have to type the project name again. This project info
should be fetched from "Resource" list only.
Please let me know how i can achieve this by OOTB approach .

Many apple phone users are especially fed up with RSGI Communication , Erandwana, Pune, Maharashtra, India.
Their service report No. 36679.
Allthough Mr Punit ( Technical Dept. Apple.) had requested RSGI to chance the device, still RSGI said they do not have the device ( I phone 5, white ,16GB) in stock.
Today when we contacted them they said they won't be able to replace OR order to Apple unless and until we do not keep the device with them for 3 days.
Mr Deepak of Technical Dept Apple was contacted who's telephonic Transript as proof is available with us.

I had thought this situation was solved but it just got worse. In addition to being without service for several days I am now being charged a cancellation fee for a broadband service that BT disconnected in error. BT Vision was also terminated by BT but the set up charges are still in place. Does anyone know who the relevant Ombudsman is? I called BT from America on Friday - for an hour - while someone called Aruj sorted out why there is an order 'in progress' that I didn't initiate; why I have fees relating to a problem created by BT and why there are references to a house move that didn't take place and a BT Vision service I no longer have but didn't cancel myself. He assured me it would be rectified and my bill would be reduced by 139 pounds and we would get confirmation of this later that day. I asked him what chance there was that this would not actually happen - he said no chance at all; my new bill would be 23.50.
There was no text message. An online chat person today told me there had been a fee reduction request which had been declined and there was nothing else he could help me with as he dealt only with broadband. But he would get BT Vision to email me. They always seem so helpful.............
I'm sure I'm listed somewhere as 'a problem', there's no other explanation for why I get the runaround
