CS3 - Auto Format doesn't compact blank lines?

In Flash 8 on OS X, using Auto Format used to remove blank
lines. I can't seem to find a way to enable this in CS3. Is it
possible?

Additional three thoughts: First, is there anything I can do while still in MS Word to enable Acrobat to see the check boxes easier? Different font? Same font, but different "character"? Etc. Second, if there is no way the check boxes can be recognized and converted, is there a way to do an after-the-fact search-and-replace, searching for the check boxes and replacing them with clickable boxes. By the way, I don't need to capture data; I just need for people to be able to fill out the form on their computer and print it. Third, if Acrobat can't do this, is there third-party form software that recognizes check boxes?

  • How do you force source formatting to leave blank lines in CS6?

I inherited some code with paragraph breaks between some lines so that there's a blank line between two lines of code.  When I Apply Source Formatting, the original blank lines remains, but when I insert a blank line & then Apply Source Formatting, the blank lines I inserted disappear.
I showed the hidden characters and found that on the lines that remain blank, there are 4 spaces & a paragraph marker.  When insert the same thing, source formatting still removes my blank lines, but keeps the ones that someone else inserted (while not using DW) by adding 4 spaces & a paragraph marker.
Is this behavior due to opening a file that was created outside of DW?  Is there anyway to get source formatting to leave my inserted blank lines alone?
    Thanks!

That worked: I want to be able to preserve blank lines when I apply source formatting, not get rid of them.  I copied the lines that didn't disappear & they were also preserved wherever I copied them in my doc.
It would be nice to know what that hidden character is that prevents the blank line from being removed, but I guess I can't tell with DW.

  • 'No blank lines' - SMARTFORM Paragraph settings HELP!

    Hi,
I'm new to smartforms. I'm creating an invoice using smartforms. In sapscript we have the ability to define a paragraph format as 'No blank lines' by checking the appropriate checkbox for that paragraph setting.
Where do I do this for paragraph formats in Style for Smartforms? Or do I do this somewhere else?
I've looked high and low and can't find it anywhere!
Any help would be appreciated in the form of reward points.
    Thanks
    Liam

    Hi,
Does anyone else have any other options? Increasing line spacing only increases the space between lines. What I really need is to supress blank lines.
In other words assume I have the following:
    &LINE1&
    &LINE2&
    &LINE3&
    &LINE4&
    where &LINE1& = 'A',
    &LINE2& = 'B',
    &LINE3& = 'C',
    &LINE4& = 'D',
If &LINE3& does not contain any values I don't want to see:
    A
    B
    <blank>
    D
    I want to see:
    A
    B
    D
This is easily done in sapscript using paragraph formats checking option 'No blank lines'. However I can't find a similar option in SMARTFORMS.
Correct answers or helpful suggestions will be rewarded.
    Thanks

  • Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I just want to type a letter and add pictures and titles, and Pages keeps changing font sizes and doesn't let me "Do it my way".  I HATE this!

Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I'm using a blank document, so I figured I could write my letter and add pictures any way I wanted to.  But NO!  Pages keeps changing the font size!  I typed a large heading as a title, and when I try to change to a smaller font for the body of the letter, it changes the size back to the larger size!  I am getting SO FRUSTRATED!  I've spent over an hour trying to get the stupid program to let me just type my letter!  Can anyone help?

The only one left is the "unsubmitted text" dialogue, which would not be a problem if I were not a Facebook user; after updating the "Richard is..." field (which does not require a manual submit to actually send) I get the above message. This is obviously Safari just not realising that the info has been sent and is therefore (I imagine) one for Apple themselves to answer!!
You're welcome Rich. Glad to help.
Not being a Facebook User, I'm not sure how to respond to the error situation. However, this would be something to report to Apple as a bug via the Safari Menu. First, open to the page in question, then select "Report Bugs to Apple".

Is the Design in Character Units set to Yes?
How are you viewing your layout in report editor? Are you viewing with Grid?
If it is Yes and with grid, try to fit your layout objects within the Grid.

  • Turn Off Auto format that drops last line of a paragraph to next page

When I am writing multi-page papers, I will occasionally experience an auto-format annoyance where, if the paragraph I have written ends with just half a life of text on the next page, pages automatically drops the last full line of text down to the next page as well. I suppose pages does not want the short line to be lonely, but it leaves a large gap at the bottom of the page - particularly when the lines are double-spaced. I often have page limits on my assignments and am trying to squeeze as much in as possible int he space I am permitted, so losing these lines of text can be a great annoyance. How do I turn this feature off? Thanks.

  • Ignore blank lines in text file using number format exception.

hi.. does anyone know how to ignore a blank line and move on to the next line? the text file contains:
    2
    bla bla bla
    112.4
    222.5
    ble ble vle
    115.5
    123.2

The problem with trim() is that it only trims spaces (0x20). In a source code file, "blank" lines are as likely to contain TABs as spaces. I would recommend something like   if (line.length() == 0 || line.matches("\\s+")) If the inefficiency of matches() becomes a problem, you can use a pre-compiled Pattern object, or roll your own isItWhitespace() method.

  • Dreamweaver Contribute Adds Blank Lines

I'm having trouble with the Dreamweaver/Contribute relationship. I work in Dreamweaver and set my client up to work in Contribute. Over time thousands (200,000) blank lines are added into the file. Normally I use Command>Apply Formatting but eventually the file is so corrupted that this doesn't work and I have to rebuild the file and start over.
Any ideas how to set up Dreamweaver/Contribute so that this does not happy. Or any other problem solving techniques greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • SQL Developer: Right-click format doesn't work right with DATE datatype

    Hi All!
Currently I'm using version SQL Developer Version 3.1.05.
Got a question regarding the 'auto-format' of syntax whenever writing in the code editor.
If you take this snippet of code and drop it into a worksheet, then highlight it, right click the mouse, then select "format" it's like it fails to add the proper spacing when it runs into the DATE datatype. I looked all through the : preferences > database > sql formatter > oracle formatting > edit and couldn't find anything regarding the formatting with date types.
Am I looking in the wrong area?? Is this a known bug? Having trouble searching for this exact issue too. I LOVE the format feature, but I hate having to go to each date type and manually spacing it out to make everything look 'clean'. I'm picky I guess :P I can live with it but figured I'd ask.

    Hello,
I put 3.1.07 as you'd suggested. Seems the problem is still occuring for me... probably a user preference though ;)
Open a new worksheet and drop this in, highlight everything, right-click and choose "format". All the keywords (varchar2, number, etc) should align on themselves making it look nice. I have mine set up to line-break after a comma. (I can't get it to format properly as I type it here onto the forums, so added a bunch of spaces to try to mimic it in this view)
    type TEMP_REC
    IS

    BOM_ATTR3 VARCHAR2(30),
    BOM_AMT1 NUMBER,
    BOM_AMT2 NUMBER,
    BAD_COMMENTS VARCHAR2(1000) );
Now, let's add another field in there, but this time a date/timestamp datatype. If you format it like this you will see that the keywords sort of 'reset' their position after it encounters a date/timestamp datatype. The date type doesn't align properly with the others.

  • New version of Flash, same auto format bugs

When Flash CS3 came out, the first thing I noticed when I sat
down to use it for the first time was that the ActionScript Auto
Format was unusable because of bugs that were present in it. One of
the bugs was that it would actually REMOVE parenthesis from certain
lines of code, and next to object initializations. This made it
unusable because it would constantly break programs. So pretty
much, in CS3 you had this Auto Format feature (that worked
wonderfully in previous versions of Flash) that was just there and
couldn't actually be used by anyone who was going to do any sort of
serious programming. This was pretty hard to believe being that
Auto format worked fine in previous versions of Flash (I can't
remember if it was in 8 or after 8 it broke).
So I take my time, go to the Flash CS3 bug reporter, and
    report the bug.
Fast forward a few years. CS4 comes out. I immediately buy
the upgrade. What's the first thing I look at? The Auto formatter.
To my dismay, it still contains the exact same bugs it did when CS3
came out years ago. I almost felt like asking for a refund. I don't
think it's too high of an expectation for a bunch of obvious bugs
    to be fixed.
Then I have to ask myself, am I the only person on planet
earth who uses the ActionScript Auto format? I used to love it to
just clean up my code and indent it. I mean right now, it's just
like "there". I don't see how anyone can actually be using it in
its current state. Adobe should either get rid of it or fix it,
    preferably fix it.
I guess my question is, to anyone really, or preferably
Adobe, what's going on here? Is this ever going to be fixed? It's
not really fair that a feature that used to work perfectly has been
broken in the last two major versions of Flash. Is there any
possible way for Adobe to send down a fix for this, or is there a
way for the user to fix it on their own?
    Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I chose this option:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player.exe
It finally allowed me to install. It is working. Adobe, I am disappointed that this update was so frustrating to install. Shame on you.

  • Pages: how do I turn off auto formatting and auto indenting!

I've got Pages 5.2.2 and for the life of me can't figure out how to turn off auto formatting!
When I hit return to move text to a new line, Pages automatically indents the new line, creating a new paragraph which is not what I want at all.
I'm using a blank template and have not altered the default settings at all.  Any geniuses out there who can help?

If not already present, turn on your document rulers via View > Show Rulers. Does a ¯ symbol appear by itself, or is it accompanied by  an inverted triangle below it? The first symbol indicates that you have a First Indent set to other than 0. The inverted triangle says that you also have the Left indent set to the First indent amount.
In Pages, if a First indent is set, any hard return will invoke a new paragraph with an auto-indent corresponding to the First Indent amount. First lines will be indented, and subsequent lines are flush left margin (unless Left indent is not 0). In word processing, we only do hard returns when we deliberately want a new paragraph. If you want to force an end of a sentence, without forming a new paragraph, with/out auto-indent effect, use either shift+enter, or control+enter.
The First, and Left indent settings in Pages v5.2.2 are here:
    Toolbar > Format > Text > Layout

  • AS3 Auto Format not recognizing comments

Something is corrupt with my Flash Professional CS5 Actionscript Auto format:
Comments within a block, such as ' // ' or block comments ' /* ... */ ' are tripping up the Auto Formattor, which returns this error: ' Error with autoformat near line: }  '.
Comments before package block don't cause an error.
When I remove comments within package block, Auto format works correctly.
How can I fix my Flash CS3 ActionScript editor Auto format?

the problem you're seeing is the least of the known problems with auto-formatter.  the worst is the auto-formatter change change well-written code to be mal-formed code.
so, while i don't think you can fix your auto formatter, what you can do is copy chunks of code to a new fla or as file and auto-format that chunk.
then check that it's been formatted correctly and nothing essential has been changed.  (ie, at least, check for errors.)  if everything looks ok, replace the unformatted chunk in your original file with the formatted chunk.
that's the wisest way to use auto-formatter.   it's also good to know and use the undo so you can always undo an auto-format botch.

  • Suppress Blank Lines in RTF Template

We are using <?if:count(current-group()[FIELD=$VARIABLE])?> in order to restrict data in a pivot table cell.
The pivot table cell uses @cell:top XML level to produce fixed number of columns.
There are two for-each-groups in the cell under the @cell tag.
Using <?if:count(current-group()[FIELD=$VARIABLE])?> works fine to restrict data but there are many extra blank lines creating bad formatting. This is because the two for-each-groups under the @cell tag. Those groups get the correct data but since @cell is at the top node of the XML the for-each-groups are repeating too many times and creating the blank lines.
Is there a way to suppress blank lines in an RTF template?

I've already tried that and the results are the same. The blank spaces still exist. I even tried using that right after the for-each-groups that are under the @cell tag. No difference.
Can I please send you the RTF template and XML? And two PDF files, one that shows the empty line spaces and one that shows correct formatting (without fixed number of columns).
    Thank you very much.

I've been trying with posix [:cntrl:] but it doesn't seem to want to work. Question: how to get the desired output?
If this has been answered on another post, please point me in the right direction and accept my apologies!

    Hi,
The simplest thing might be to use LTRIM. (or TRIM, if you need to remove them from the end of the string, as well).
If you want a regular expression:
    SELECT     REGEXP_REPLACE ( tester
                     , '(^|' || CHR (10) || ')' || CHR (10) || '+'
                     , '\1'
    FROM     test_tab
;This might be easier to understand if you let x stand for CHR (10):
    SELECT     REGEXP_REPLACE ( tester
                     , '(^|x)x+'
                     , '\1'
    FROM     test_tab
;This is easier to understand: \1 is either the beginning of the string or x. When this is followed imeediately by 1 or more extra x's, then replace that whole pattern with \1 (that is, remove the extra x's).
