CS3 breaks site created in earlier versions

I originally created my site, www.inboxer.com, using
Dreamweaver MX. I upgraded with each version and had no significant
problems until the CS3 upgrade. My three biggest problems:
1. Design view no longer works. When I open a file in split
view, the design section is blank. But, when I make a minor edit,
such as adding a space character, and hit refresh, the design
appears. Unfortunately, after a few edits, the design disappears
again.
When this happens, the design view shows that it is in the
<head> tag -- even though I am editing the code in another
section. I do have a </head> tag. And, again, this code
worked fine in CS2.
I am also finding extra carat characters, <, in the code.
These carats are almost always either before the body command or at
the end of the document.
2. The library updates no longer work at all.
3. I have tried to detach from the templates and the
libraries, just so that I can edit the raw HTML, but I get an
unexpected end of file message when I try to save.
I am totally out of ideas and these problems make CS3
unusable. Do you have any ideas on how to fix the design view,
library update, or unexpected end of file?

This almost ALWAYS means that there are coding errors on the
page that were
tolerated by the earlier versions but cannot be rendered by
CS3. We would
need to see your code to know what those might be, but you
can probably find
them by validating the page here -
http://validator.w3.org

There was no DW CS2 - I assume you meant DW8.

DW would never put these extra characters in your code. They
can only be
the result of operator error.

Try recreating the site cache (SITE | Advanced > Recreate
Site Cache). If
that fails then we will have to explore your site definition
a bit.

Your pages' code is seriously hosed. I think we will have to
see the
template to go further.

itunes will not open, message says library was created with earlier version. what do i do?

Unless you just attempted to downgrade iTunes to an earlier verison this is probably a sign of a corrupt library.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • I can't open itunes - error message - created by earlier version of itunes

    Hi,
My sister used my itunes to set up her new ipod nano but now when I click on the itunes icon on my laptop I get an error message that says it can't open because it was created by an earlier version of itunes. (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Has anyone encountered this problem?
I don't dare open any old project. help!

    Hi there!
I´ve updated to latest version and then opened my project and got this error.
Then I found in a forum that I should delete the ADOBE folder in \my documents
I´ve deleted and then I could open the file again.
But the .MP4 and some other video files doesn´t open.
I saw that the 'Effect Presets and Custom Items.prfpset' file on \my documents\adobe\premiere Pro\8.0\Profile-myprofilename was causing the error.
I also saw in other forum that I should rename Adobe folder to old.adobe from \userfolder\appdata\roaming and \userfolder\appdata\local but this hasn´t solved the problem.
I tried also to reinstall Quicktime and K-Lite Codec Pack but the problem persists.
    Have you found any solution??

  • Can't open projects with Imovie 5 that were created with earlier version

I can't open my Imovie projects that I created when using Mac OS 9.2 now that I'm using Tiger and Imovie 5.
I'm not sure what version of Imovie I created them with. Do I need to find an earlier version and open them in the classic environment, or is there some way of converting or importing them?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Theoretically iMovie 5 can convert old projects, but projects created in Mac OS 9.2 can be quite difficult, for OS 9 is very different than OS X. More about that here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1677339
Your best option is to use the version of iMovie that you used originally to edit the project. If the projects are really old, that may require starting up your Mac in Mac OS 9 (instead of running iMovie in the Classic environment, which is Mac OS 9 running inside Mac OS X.)
Your best solution may be to boot up in Mac OS 9 and use your old version of iMovie to export the project back to the camera, then boot into Mac OS X and import the tape into iMovie 5.
If you don't have a camera, export to a Full Quality DV movie, then import that movie into iMovie 5.
The camera will (probably) deliver the clips to iMovie 5 as clips, while the export to a Full Quality DV movie will not.
By the way, to see which version of iMovie last edited the project, drop the project file on the TextEdit icon in the Dock. The version is shown at the top of the file.
iMovie 2.1.2 was the first version to run in OS X, I believe. The last version to run in OS 9 had the same version number, unfortunately.
If your Mac doesn't let you start up in Mac OS 9, then say more about exactly what happens when you try to convert the project. Do you get error messages? What are they?

  • How do I import images created in earlier versions of Aperture and saved to DVD as an Aperture library into Aperture 3.2.1?

When I insert the DVD into my MacPro the disk appears as though it is blank, with the little 'burn' icon in the top right
When I insert the DVD into my macbook it shows the full Aperture library structure and when I allow file sharing between the machines the MacPro can also recognises the files
I suspect I am making a basic error somewhere as the images are clearly all there.  This doesnt just occur for one DVD, I have dozens that are all perfroming in the same way when I try to import files created in an earlier version of Aperture back into the version I am now using, 3.2.1
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Reiss.

To get the old library into Aperture it will need to be upgrade. To do this you will need to copy the library off the DVD onto our HD and then open Aperture on this library. Aperture should then upgrade the library to the latest version.

  • Im having trouble exporting a file from cs3 to illustrator 6 (an earlier version). Please help.

I have an EPS file that was created with CS3 on a macbook leopard operating system and was saved according to the ( Adobe) instructions to the CD in illustrator 3.
Later I tried to open the CD on a Performa 6200 CD using a macOS 8.1 with Illustrator 6.0. When I opened the CD there was a closed lock on the top left corner of the window, the EPS file icon appeared as a gray paper not looking like your typical illustrator file. I then proceeded to click on the EPS file and a window appeared with this message: "The document "---" could not be opened, because the application program that created could not be found.  Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translator".
If there is anyway that you can help out please respond, I am really desperate.
    Thank you,

It sounds like your older performa might not know to open that EPS with illustrator. Try going into Illustrator and using File>Open. If that still does not work it may be that CS3 did not save down a version that will work with Illy 6. Options for saving a legacy EPS from CS3 are Illy ver 3, 8, 9, 10; so you would need to save down to 3.

  • HT1925 Trying to download, getting message "can't access, was created in earlier version of iTunes."

I'm trying to download to my iPOD and my MP3 and I keep getting a message that says it cannot access my files because it was created in an earlier version of iTUNES.

Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason.

  • Version 11.0.3 not displaying Files created in earlier versions correctly

Using Version 11.0.2 a pdf that was created on one computer. When you open the attachment up on a machine that has version 11.0.3, the latest adobe reader,  installed you get the blocks in the narrative field.
Using Version 11.0.3 a PDF was created and can be opened on a machine that has version 11.0.3 as well as an older version of Adobe reader without any problems.
Font embedding in the file when created is turned on.
Uninstalled Adobe version 11.0.3 from machine and installed version 11.0.0. Can open both attachments without any problems with the narrative fields. It seems that version 11.0.3 has problems opening a file, specifically the narrative, that was created in an older version.

  • CS Review not enabling for docs created in earlier versions of inDesign

I've been using CS Review for over a month now and have just come up against an issue that I haven't seen discussed here.
I'm running inDesign CS5, but when working on files originally created in inDesign CS3, I am unable to post the document to CS Review. the add pages to review button remains greyed-out.
Has anyone else come up against this?

That machine is quite capable with the exception of the RAM which is barely enough for the operating system.
RAM is cheap. Buy more and max out the machine if you can.
BTW, you'll have all kinds of trouble finding a legitimate copy of anything earlier than CS5.
One other thought, I would guess with only one gig of RAM that machine originally had a different operating system on it. I had nothing but problems with a Snow Leopard upgrade and a clean install was the only thing that fixed it.

  • Client Having Problems With Acrobat 11.0.3 and files created in earlier versions

We are noticing problems with our PDF's depending on the version of Adobe they are viewed with.
If the PDF File was created pre 11.0.3 and you view it with 11.0.3 you only see squares in the narratives from SQL/Oracle Text Fields .
If the PDF File was created with 11.0.3 and you view it with 11.0.3, it is fine.
Update.  As with most Software/Support services the correct information is not always received and must be forced out of the Customers.
The PDF files are drawing of Auto Accidents created in Adobe Acrobat and stored on a Microsoft Server Network.  The files are then merged inside a Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 SP2 Application with Data received from Microfoft SQL Server 2005 Database  through a ODBC driver to a FoxPro Cursor and then created with a Visual FoxPro Report Form. The VFP Report form page that displaies/prints the PDF file is a OLE File Object and is created / Printed through Amyuni 4.5xx Converter to a PDF file and then viewed with Adobe Acrobat 11.0.3.

There are software packages that will do those checks. So in that sense there is a way to check. However, that would be a programming task and not necessarily simple. So I really can't help you on the programming aspect (I would refer you to something like the SDK forum for programming).
To check the file, you would normally open the document properties (ctrl-D). The general tab provides the version number and the fonts tab will tell you what fonts are used and embedded.

  • Unable to open sequence diagram created by earlier version of JDeveloper

About 2 years back, we were using the JDeveloper to create sequence diagrams using the latest version of JDeveloper at that time. The diagrams were created and saved by Jdeveloper in ".oxd_seq" files.
We are now trying to open these diagrams using the JDeveloper version of Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.3.0. It is not working for ".oxd_seq" file. Is there any way we can recover those diagrams in JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0?

    Hi Drew
    Normally it's pretty simple.
    1. Copy the .CP file(s) from source computer to intermediate media. (Network server, USB drive, CD, Etc.)
    2. Copy .CP file(s) from intermediate media to destination PC.
    3. Open Captivate and open file(s) in new location on destination PC.
At no point should you ever consider leaving the .CP file on a network drive and opening Captivate and browsing to the file to make edits while it is in the network location. You always want to work locally.
Another thing to consider is that Captivate seems touchy with CP files. You will want to ensure that all PCs are using the same version of Captivate. This includes patches. I wouldn't want to save a .CP file from a patched version 4 and expect to open it without issues on an unpatched version 4.

  • Compatibility between CS3 and earlier versions?
