Cs3 bridge preview ghost windows

I am running CS3 on a Gateway P7805-u w/ Intel Core Duo 2 CPU 2.26/2.27 ghz processor, 4.0 ram and 64 bit os machine using  Windows Vista. I am unable to use Bridge because the preview windows seem to duplicate themselves and I end up with what looks like multiple window (do they call them ghost windows?) of a preview open at once. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, updating my NVidia9800 1GB graphics card and updating CS3. The program ran fine when I first started using it on this machine. It works fine on my desktop computer running XP.
I really like Bridge and would like to upgrade to CS4, but not if I can't run it on this machine. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Simple workarounds. This is a problem with the graphics card not being up to the task.  You will also have problems with the slide mode.
A simple way to get aroiund this is to click on restore down in upper right corner.  You can expand window to max with arrows.  If you run in max mode you will get problem you describe.
Go to advanced preferences in Bridge and click on "use software rendering".  Seems to work OK in this mode, so not necessary to replace video card for this this problem.
Hope this solves your problem.
p.s.  There are a lot of problems with Nvidia 195 series drivers with Bridge and PS.

  • CS3 Bridge: Preview image too small

    Hi,
    Here's what I'm using:
    Photoshop CS3: 10.0.1
    Bridge: 2.1.1.9
    ACR: 4.6.0.30
No matter what mode I coose (lightbox, horizontal/vertical filmstrip ...), the preview image occupies a very small part of the preview pane and I find no way to resize it. The thumnail pane and the thumbnail images themselves are resizable all right.
I tried purging the cache and that didn't help.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Prabal.

    Hi,
I wanted to report another experiment that possibly points out where the problem is.
    Case 1:
I placed the preview and content panes one above the other. Like so (preview pane at the top):
Then I started pulling the horizontal separator between the two panes to shrink the size of the lower pane and this caused the preview image to starting to get bigger to fit the preview pane real estate space. Look at the image below (and note that the bigger image is not rendered correctly) and note that at the time of taking the screenshot, I did not yet release the horizontal separator:
Finally, just as I released the horizontal separator bar, the image in the preview pane got resized to its initial small size:
    Any clue?
    Thanks,
    Prabal.

  • CS3 Bridge Preview Soft

Please see Case No: 172571700 for details, however, I would love to see your developers come up with an option in preferences that would allow one to choose to see larger RAW files as sharp as they really are. Right now when I load up images from my Canon 1Ds Mark II or Canon !1D Mark III, the images in the preview pane are soft and mushy even though they are sharp. The problem is that I have to shoot sometimes in order of 1,500 images a day for certain assignments, and I can't tell if my images are in focus or not without opening them up in ACR. That takes too much time. In Bridge CS2 I never had that problem. I understand that you generate the image from the preview image in the RAW file, but even if I convert to DNG with High Res preview, the good images still look soft and mushy.
Take a look at your forum on Bridge and you will see that I am not the only one that wants a preview pane that works. I will take the hit in speed. I am sure is will be faster than opening up every image in ACR.
    Thanks,
    Daniel Root
    Portland, OR

Adding my voice to the chorus... I use a Canon 5D (among other cameras) and the previews in Bridge look little like what I see when I open the files in ACR or as converted TIFFs in PS CS3. Purging the caches (globally, and then often again for the individual folder) is an unnecessary manual step and there should be an option to build the preview directly from the RAW file (vs. the embedded JPEG as it appears to do now).
Same goes for the magnified 'loupe' view in Bridge -- it's not much use as is in terms of checking for sharpness, it looks like it's just magnifying the JPEG preview (and beyond 100% as well, it would appear), so what you see are, mostly, soft pixels resulting from the bicubic smoother upscaling and color blocks from JPEG artifacting.
    Thanks,

  • CS3 Bridge forces Windows Aero to Basic after installing Quicktime

Hi, I have been running Adobe CS3 Bridge (and Photoshop) without any problems on Windows 7 Ultimate until Apple forced me to install Apple iTunes. iTunes in turn forces me to install Apple Quicktime. Since I installed Apple iTunes + Apple Quicktime, Windows 7 switches from Aroe to Basic when I start Adobe CS3 Bridge. The following message appears: The color scheme has been changed. The following program has performed an action that requires Windows to temporarily change the color scheme to Windows 7 Basic: Program= Adobe Systems, Publisher= Adobe Systems. When I uninstall Apple Quicktime, Adobe CS3 Bridge runs without any problems again. Unfortunately, I need Apple iTunes to update my iPhone and Apple iTunes will not run without Apple Quicktime installed. Any suggestions?

    Hi Curt (and others),
I do have the latest version of QuickTime (7.6.5). QuickTime forums? Does not work, I have to login, but when I do I get error: Invalid Language ID (no idea what that means). There appears to be no other way to get into contact with Apple.
After some research I found the following 'bypass': when I disable Windows XP compatibility mode for Adobe CS3 Bridge the problem disappears. But, the reasons why I enabled Windows XP Compatibity mode for Adobe CS3 Bridge (rightclick | properties | compatibility) is that it appears that CS3 Bridge tends to loose my preferences at unpredictable intervals. In particular the setting: [V] Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge stops working after a while (few weeks). All of a sudden, double-click opens Camera Raw in CS3 Photoshop instead of in CS3 Bridge.

  • Image Colors Change in Bridge Preview Window

I edited some images first in Camera Raw and then Photoshop (CS5), all working in sRGB color space, and saved them as JPEGs.  If I select one of these images in the Bridge content pane, minimize the Bridge window, then maximize the Bridge window, the image appears correctly in the Bridge content pane but the colors are incorrect in the Bridge preview pane.  If I resize the view in the content pane, the image colors in the preview pane get corrected within a couple seconds.  Likewise, if I click on another image and then back, the image colors are correct in the preview pane, but if I again minimize then maximize the Bridge window, the image colors in the preview pane are incorrect again.
Windows Explorer displays the image colors correctly.  ZoomBrowserEX (browser software provided with Canon camera) displays the same image (same file) with incorrect colors.  When I upload these JPEGs to my web photohosting site (PictureTrail), the images appear there with incorrect colors.  That is where this issue becomes most problematic because with the colors being off, the images are useless for posting to online forums or classifieds.
It seems that the color in the JPEG is being read differently by different software, and is even being read differently under different circumstances within Photoshop (Bridge).  Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change?  Or some other issue?  Thanks.....

I have a fair understanding of color profiles and color management.  My monitor is a Dell UltraSharp U3011 set to the factory-calibrated sRGB display mode.
What makes me certain that this is not a simple matter of different color management in different applications is that Bridge is displaying the same JPEG file/image in two panes on the screen simultaneously and the colors do not match.  Furthermore, the incorrect colors in the preview pane image change to the correct colors if I resize the thumbnails in the content pane, or click on another image and then back; and the colors in the preview pane go back to incorrect if I minimize then maximize the Bridge window.  Seems to me that there must be something within that JPEG that is being interpreted differently in different circumstances that results in the "two versions" displayed within the same application (Bridge) on the same screen at the same time, and that other apps are interpreting one way or the other.
    Message was edited by: BoaMorph1
Exploring a bit further, I've realized that the same color display issue exists with the original JPEGs from my camera (Canon T1i, shooting in sRGB color space).  So it seems the issue did not originate with settings etc. in Photoshop.... but Photoshop (Bridge) IS displaying "two versions" on same screen at same time, and so must be doing something different with the JPEG info in one pane vs. the other.

  • After effects & Adobe Bridge preview Issue *freezing*

    Hello all,
I wanted to begin learning After Effects CS4, unfortunately Adobe Bridge CS4 is halting my education.
If I explore any kind of After effects CS4 preset, and preview it inside of Adobe bridge, my pc freezes. The preview window, within Bridge CS4 turns blank white while it freezes,
the Windows toolbar of Adobe bridge, says not responding temporarily, if a wait a little while around 30-45 seconds I regain control of my pc again, the preview box occasionally will show a still image and sometimes it will stay white or flicker. If I do wait the 30-45 seconds the toolbar window no longer says 'not responding' I can click to a (non) After effects preset folder, (for example) 'My family pictures' and it will operate normally but if I go back to the After effects CS4 presets again the freezing will occur once more.
What I find strange is that Adobe Bridge previewing, works absolutely fine for my photoshop documents, Illustrator documents, and any Jpeg photos I have, all after effect presets fail to preview, regardless of type if it's a still shape background or animated sprite, the same freeze issue occurs
I was wondering if anyone has helpful tips?
so far I have downloaded all important driver updates for my graphics card, my card is a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS 256, I have also reinstalled bridge and AfterEffects, I have downloaded all the relevent players.
I am a Windows vista user, also I have enough RAM I believe, just over 3 Giga
I dont know how useful the info is on my Pc spec is, but I thought it could be worth mentioning.
I have looked for a few hours to find some kind of thread with a similar problem I have been unsuccessful, I hope someone can help
    Kindest regards Julian

    Hi Curt y,
I do have the latest Quicktime player installed, I would'nt have have thought that would halt me previewing CS4 after effect still shapes and backgrounds? but.. I'm not to sure if I'm honest.
well I tried uninstalling and reinstalled my player still no sucess sadly.
do you know roughly what date all these old threads popped up?
I'm going to scavenge for them anyway in the the hope I find something useful. *must be positive*
thank you Curt y, for giving me some of your time.
    regards Julian

  • CS3 Bridge Crashes when I open Edit Preferences

I am running PhotoShop CS3 Bridge V2.1.1.9 under Win XP Pro SP2 and when I launch Bridge and open Edit > Preferences Bridge immediately crashes with the "Adobe Bridge has encountered a problem and needs to close". Bridge was running fine. I assume I must have corrupted a file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Ed B

I tried holding the ctrl buttom, the preferences reset, or any other window, would not launch. i tried the cnrl/shift/alt buttons, this did not work. i tried launching from quick start button, from the explorer exe, and still not able to get this to work. i even tried a few weeks back to uninstall and reinstall, but did not seem to work, i gave up until need it open now...
are there any other tricks anyone has had luck with to get the preferences window to work?

  • NEF thumbnails will not appear in CS3 Bridge

My XP machine crashed and I was forced to get a Vista machine. Vista 64 bit 7gb RAM and 640GB HD.
I downloaded the latest ACR 4.6 and that allowed me to see and edit NEF files in PS but in CS3 Bridge I cannot see the thumbnails only the NEF icon. I can double click and the NEF file will open in PS and I can edit as usual. I have tried clearing the cache' in the "tools" and it will give me a flash of some of the NEF thumbnails but that is all just a split second flash. I can see the metadata information just no thumbnail preview. JPEG's are fine.
    HELP!!!

    Hi:
I was having the same problem with vista 64 bit, PS CS3, bridge v. 4.6, creating thumbnails for Canon 50D.  Your suggestions above to purge not only the camera raw preferences cache but also the regular preferences cache did the trick!  Even though I have 3GB set for cache, it must have filled up.  The thumbnails created instantly.
I had already checked for multiples of the plug-in but that wasn't it.  ONly after I purged the general program cache did the thumbnails appear.
I knew it had to be something arcane like that as I also have CS3 installed in Win XP 32 bit, with the 4.6 ACR, and it creates thumbnails without any problem!
So thanks very much, you solved my problem, and I'd tried a lot of different suggestions.
It is counterintuitive I think that the program gives you three different places, tools, ACR and Bridge preferences.      No wonder people have problems sorting simple problems like this out

  • Nikon D800 "and" CS6 Bridge Preview

Mac Pro, 10.7.5, Adobe CS6 suite recently updated. I am encountering problem of viewing images from Nikon D800 in Bridge Preview. The image thumbnails are displayed in Content, and able to open images in Camera Raw and Photoshop. What do I need to do to view images in Preview once selected from Content? -Rob

Thanks for the tip. However the problem "corrected" itself. I think after updating, Bridge had to reset/refresh. I now see any selected images from Content in the Preview panel/window. The problem was that if clicked on image in Content, I wouldn't see anything in Preview. Thanks for that purging tip. That might come in handy.

  • CS3 bridge not responding

I have been using CS3 Bridge on Vista for over a year with no real problems. Recently I was using it to move some files around and it stopped responding to any command. I closed it via task manager and reopened it. It opened but did not respond to any command and did not preview any photos. I tried reinstalling and then uninstall and reinstall. No help. I went to CS3 via an upgrade from CS2. When I tried the reinstalls I was using the CS3 upgrade disc. Any suggestions to get CS3 Bridge functional again?

The prefs an caches were damaged. Reinstalls don't touch them, so nothing got fixed. You will have to manualyl delete them/ move them out of the way and let the program create new default ones...

  • AE CS3: Bridge CS3 Causes AE CS3 to Crash on Open

I just wanted to post something here to help out anyone who is running Windows Vista 64-bit with Production Premium CS3.
Both AE CS3 & Bridge CS3 work fine - however when I have bridge open first and then launch after effects, after effects constantly crashes on the title screen.
After looking for several fixes for this, I tried closing bridge. After that I was able to launch AE CS3 just fine. I can then re-open bridge and both programs run just fine.
Another one of those weird quirks. Hope this helps someone out.
    -Charley

Did you try it again?  Just because it crashed once doesn't necessarily mean it will crash every time.

  • CS3 Bridge won't start

For the first time, Bridge won't start-up either from CS3 or the XP Programs areas in Startup. I downloaded and inrtalled the CS3 Bridge 2.1.1 update and it did not help. I get the Message: The app failed to initilize properly (Oxc0000022). Click OK to Terminate. Please help if you can, thanks. phil
PS only change to my computer that I know of is I installed an ran Perfect Image defrag program

I did as you sugested: "
Hold down the crtl + shift + alt keys and start photoshop. You will be a window "Delete Adobe PS Settings File". Choose yes".  I am running XP Pro, and when I use the crtl-shift-alt keys while starting CS3, the Adobe Bridge CS3 Properties Window pops up.  Not anything suggesting to
    "Delete Adobe PS Settings File".
I assure you that I am holding the keys properly, and continuously as I double click on the shortcut to CS3.  Do you have another method that can be used to accomplish this???
I do not know if my original message was clear, but I cannot start Bridge.  When I do so, I get the following message:
Bridge.exe - App Error.  The apploication failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022).
So I do appreciate your suggestion to:
"To reset preferences in Bridge hold down Crtl key and start Bridge. You will get a reset window, choose all 3 options"
but I can't start Bridge, so I can't change the prefs.
    Thanks for trying anyway.  Phil

  • CS3 Bridge - Filter keyboard shortcuts on in Default Workspace?

Here's a annoying differences I notice between CS2 & CS3 Bridge, or am I missing something related to Filter keyboard shortcuts in CS3 Bridge?
I'm used to using keyboard shortcuts to filter the Bridge Contents window, i.e. pressing Command+Option+1 to show just 1-star rated files. But this kind of keyboard shortcut only works when the Filter tab is visible, as in the Default Workspace view. If I in the Thumbnail workspace view none of the filter keyboard shortcuts have any effect. Must the Filter palette be visible for the shortcuts to work or am I doing something wrong?
    TIA!

hi- thank you to both of you. the question is answered but i dont know what the etiquette of awarding the 'question solved' points is here. Because the question had two parts, Malcolm Rayfield answered both parts, but A.Carlo also kindly answered the second part, so i don't know how to give the points without excluding A.Carlo. but i guess if i can only give the points to one person, it should be Malcolm, since he answered both?

  • CS3 Bridge is now crashing right after opening

My CS3 Bridge, which has worked for quite a while, has started crashing immediately after opening.
I tried to repair the installation, tried to uninstall and then install again, and tried opening holding down the control key and deleting all the preferences.
Then I uninstalled, deleted all the files under the local settings/application data for bridge, deleted all the folders left under program files for Bridge and re-installed, same issue.
I also tried updating video drivers.
Still crashes. How can I fix this?

    Harringbone wrote:
I am having same problem.  I have not added any new software or updates that I'm aware of.  If anything was updated it was Adobe updater.  My problem started a week ago.  Any ideas how to correct?  Very frustrating.
You seem to be running two threads!
There a several possible causes. Try purging your Bridge cache – that can sometimes clear it.
Or check in Task Manager to see if a hidden instance of Bridge is running under "Processes". It could have been activated on start-up of Windows.

  • Bridge CS4 on Windows Explorer context sub-menu - how ?

    G'day all,
Have just moved across to CS4 from CS2, and I'm pretty impressed.
For CS2, there was a user-written script which added a command to the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer that said something like "Open Bridge here".  Bridge would launch, already focused on the folder that was open when this command was invoked.
Is there any way to make this happen in CS4?
I like Bridge as it is, with the focus being sticky on wherever it was when Bridge was last closed.  But this other facility extends its versatility ... I guess I just want everything !!
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Bran

You need to add an entry in the registry. With notepad, create a file named BridgeHere.reg with this content:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\bridge]
    @="Bridge Here"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\bridge\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Bridge CS3\\Bridge.exe\" \"%L\""
Replace CS3 with CS4 if you have CS4.
Then double-click on the file and answer yes. That's it.
