CS3 Bridge Thumbnail Generation

When I start Bridge and go to an existing folder, the thumbnails (previously cropped and adjusted) are re-generated (updating percentage shown at bottom left on status line).  Shouldn't Bridge use the thumbnails from the last time this folder was viewed and not have to re-generate them each time?  Under Edit/Preferences/Thumbnails/When Creating Thumbnails Generate=High Quality Thumbnails.  Does my Bridge cache size need to be increased?
Tim

If  you use HQ thumbnails, and especially with 100% previews, if can take a lot of space.  If space is limited the older thumbs are overwritten, so they have to be regenerated.  I assume that this means they are no longer indexed and that would also affect the search function.
I would recommend you compact the cache regularly to get rid of orphan files.  This can free up lots of space if you have not done it for awhile.
I have my cache on a partition of 40 gigs and I have about 19 gigs free. And yet when I visit a folder I have not seen for awhile it has to regenerate the thumbs, and I use quick thumbs.  So I  don't know how long the thumbs stay before being overwitten, or why they are being overwritten.

  • NEF thumbnails will not appear in CS3 Bridge

My XP machine crashed and I was forced to get a Vista machine. Vista 64 bit 7gb RAM and 640GB HD.
I downloaded the latest ACR 4.6 and that allowed me to see and edit NEF files in PS but in CS3 Bridge I cannot see the thumbnails only the NEF icon. I can double click and the NEF file will open in PS and I can edit as usual. I have tried clearing the cache' in the "tools" and it will give me a flash of some of the NEF thumbnails but that is all just a split second flash. I can see the metadata information just no thumbnail preview. JPEG's are fine.
    HELP!!!

    Hi:
I was having the same problem with vista 64 bit, PS CS3, bridge v. 4.6, creating thumbnails for Canon 50D.  Your suggestions above to purge not only the camera raw preferences cache but also the regular preferences cache did the trick!  Even though I have 3GB set for cache, it must have filled up.  The thumbnails created instantly.
I had already checked for multiples of the plug-in but that wasn't it.  ONly after I purged the general program cache did the thumbnails appear.
I knew it had to be something arcane like that as I also have CS3 installed in Win XP 32 bit, with the 4.6 ACR, and it creates thumbnails without any problem!
So thanks very much, you solved my problem, and I'd tried a lot of different suggestions.
It is counterintuitive I think that the program gives you three different places, tools, ACR and Bridge preferences.      No wonder people have problems sorting simple problems like this out

  • DNG File appears as an Icon and Not as Thumbnail in CS3 Bridge

    Hi
If I save a Camera Raw manipulated image as a COMPRESSED (LOSSLESS) DNG file it appears back in CS3 Bridge as a DNG Icon and not as a thumbnail.
Is there a reason for this and can I get the saved file to appear as a thumbnail.
    Many thanks

try resetting your preferences and/or purging your thumbnails cache by holding Ctrl right after you launch Bridge(you have to be fast, you'll get a dialog box if you succeeded)

  • Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
"Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.
    Thanks, CMA

I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

  • CS2 Bridge vs CS3 Bridge = Colors don't match

I was wondering why a JPG of eyewear with clear lenses shot on a white background and which have no color cast whatsoever displays with a light pink cast in Bridge 2.1.1.9 and displays it's normal 'neutral tone' in Bridge 1.0.4.6 ?
The folder they're in has both CMYK and RGB (sRGB) versions of the same product shot and only the RGB ones display with a noticeable pink cast in CS3 Bridge. High quality thumbnails is turned on and when I open the image in PS10 it's fine. The lens' RGB value in the affected area is neutral and pretty close to 232/232/232. There are no color casts anywhere.
As a test I just created a 232/232/232 box on a white canvas and saved it as a JPG. I've discovered that if I save it as a progressive JPG the 232/232/232 box displays as light pink on a white background in Bridge 2.1.1.9. If I save it as a Baseline (Standard) JPG it does not have the false pink cast. The same test images all display correctly in Bridge 1.0.4.6.
Is this a known issue or something particular to my system?

    Hi @Lommarti
Although HP does not support Photoshop, I was able to find something that might help; How to Convert RGB to CMYK in Photoshop.
If you can print from other programs without any issue, then you might consider contacting Adobe for help adjusting your color settings further.
You can also use the following document to ensure the printer is not at fault; Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640 and Officejet 5740, 8040 e-All-in-One....
    i hope this helps.

  • CS3 Bridge - Filter keyboard shortcuts on in Default Workspace?

Here's a annoying differences I notice between CS2 & CS3 Bridge, or am I missing something related to Filter keyboard shortcuts in CS3 Bridge?
I'm used to using keyboard shortcuts to filter the Bridge Contents window, i.e. pressing Command+Option+1 to show just 1-star rated files. But this kind of keyboard shortcut only works when the Filter tab is visible, as in the Default Workspace view. If I in the Thumbnail workspace view none of the filter keyboard shortcuts have any effect. Must the Filter palette be visible for the shortcuts to work or am I doing something wrong?
    TIA!

hi- thank you to both of you. the question is answered but i dont know what the etiquette of awarding the 'question solved' points is here. Because the question had two parts, Malcolm Rayfield answered both parts, but A.Carlo also kindly answered the second part, so i don't know how to give the points without excluding A.Carlo. but i guess if i can only give the points to one person, it should be Malcolm, since he answered both?

  • CS3 Bridge Cache Best Practices

I am using CS3 Bridge Version 2.1.1.9 and have a question(s) about the cache.
    (System specs: Vista 64bit SP1, CPU: Quad9550, Ram: 4GB, Video: 9800GT)
When and why should I purge the cache?
Whenever I re-enter Bridge and go back to a recent folder of images, the spinning "pizza wheel" reappears for a few seconds and seems to refresh the thumbnails.  Why could it not do this once and keep the refreshed thumbnails?
By the way, I just recently switched the Preference from High Quality to Quick Thumbnails and that change gave me a huge boost in speed.  The High Quality thumbnails were incredibly SLOW which once again begs the question just above, why does it not do it once?
    Thanks
    Jim Calvert

As I mentioned in post #4 my thumbnails stay for several weeks (I use quick thumbs).
I have a dedicated scratch partition of 40 gigs (shared with photoshop).   My Bridge catch was 14 gigs this morning, and I elected to compact thumbnails and that process reduced cache down to 9 gigs.  Compacting eliminates cached items that no longer are linked to anything.  Folders that had not been visited for at least a week still had the thumbnails there, so no rebuilding.  I use only central cache (do not export to folders).
The point of this is how big is your cache?  Does it have to be overwritten to make space for other activity?   The only other thing I can think of is that if you are using a lot of raw files it has a seperate cache.  I really do not understand this, or what purpose it serves.  But under edit/Camera Raw Preferences there is a box to set location and size of camera raw cache.  Default is 1 gig, and it has been recommended by some that this should be increased to 4 to 10 gigs, depending on you use of ACR and file sizes.
My thumbs load instantly (unless they have to be rebuilt).  I have between 400-800 pictures in a folder.
    I am using CS3.

  • Aperature and CS3 Bridge

This should be a no brainer. I use both Aperature and PhotoShop/CS3 Bridge. When I try to import images to Photoshop from my Aperature library using CS3 Bridge, rather than getting a library to choose from, Aperature opens on top of Bridge as if I'd opened the program as a stand alone.
If I try to open images from the Aperature library directly with PhotoShop, it's a bit better. At least I can see the directory, but I can't see thumbnails, so if the images aren't individually named (which they often aren't), I have to play hide and seek to open the one that I want.
How do I get images from the Aperature library to open directly with Bridge? (I can always do the work around by copying them to the desktop etc, but I'd rather save the step). And how can I see thumbnails in the PS directory?
    thanks

Thanks for your helpful response (as opposed to that of another responder who will go unnamed), though I haven't tried it The reason is that I prefer the RAW editor in Bridge. But I got Aperture before I got CS3 so my default download from the cameras is through Aperture. Too many programs, too little time. Each has attractive features; in fact I still use iPhoto as well since its slide show options are better than the other two.
Guess the thing that I need to to do from now on is to use Bridge to download. It still leaves me with about 5000 images on Aperture to get over to PS side, which is why I asked the question in the first place.
    Thanks again.

  • CS3 Bridge Crashes when I open Edit Preferences

I am running PhotoShop CS3 Bridge V2.1.1.9 under Win XP Pro SP2 and when I launch Bridge and open Edit > Preferences Bridge immediately crashes with the "Adobe Bridge has encountered a problem and needs to close". Bridge was running fine. I assume I must have corrupted a file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Ed B

I tried holding the ctrl buttom, the preferences reset, or any other window, would not launch. i tried the cnrl/shift/alt buttons, this did not work. i tried launching from quick start button, from the explorer exe, and still not able to get this to work. i even tried a few weeks back to uninstall and reinstall, but did not seem to work, i gave up until need it open now...
are there any other tricks anyone has had luck with to get the preferences window to work?

  • CS3 Bridge, no files on right click (yes, I set preferences)

I wrote this in previous thread, but it referred to CS5 so I'm pasting it in a new one.
    This is for CS3 Bridge.
Since I finally uninstalled previous CS version, now when I open up Bridge and right-click PSD image to say, open in AI, my options are only all browsers (?!) and Photoshop which is the program assoc. with PSD that I set in File Type Assoc in Bridge. Used to be able to view most Adobe programs when right-clicked before I uninstalled old CS.
It's annoying and I'm not sure how to restore/fix.
    Thanks!

Uninstalling an old version, will believe it or not, cause the file associations to revert to the uninstalled version.  Not an easy fix.
It appears you either need to start over or delve into the registry.  See this link.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/423584?tstart=0

  • CS3 Bridge and CS4 on the same machine.

    Hello Everyone,
I have adobe photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS4 on my machine.  Any known issues for running bridge CS3 and CS4 on the same machine?  Some experts at telling me not to use Photoshop CS3 with Bridge CS4, just wondering.  Thanks for you replies.

Bridge is not really a stand alone product, and tuned to work with its current version of PS.  Also, Bridge CS4 has some features changed and/or added.  So if using CS3 Bridge you might have aspects that don't work with PS CS4.
I would keep CS3 on the machine if you don't need the HD space, until you feel you no longer need the older version.  But use them as a pair as intended.  Also, only have one Bridge running at a time.
I did not upgrade to CS4, but from what I have read I see no reason to use Bridge CS3 as the upgrade is faster, less prone to crashes, and has added features.
CS4 PS on the other hand can be tricky if you don't have a newer computer with a good video card.

  • CS3 Bridge forces Windows Aero to Basic after installing Quicktime

Hi, I have been running Adobe CS3 Bridge (and Photoshop) without any problems on Windows 7 Ultimate until Apple forced me to install Apple iTunes. iTunes in turn forces me to install Apple Quicktime. Since I installed Apple iTunes + Apple Quicktime, Windows 7 switches from Aroe to Basic when I start Adobe CS3 Bridge. The following message appears: The color scheme has been changed. The following program has performed an action that requires Windows to temporarily change the color scheme to Windows 7 Basic: Program= Adobe Systems, Publisher= Adobe Systems. When I uninstall Apple Quicktime, Adobe CS3 Bridge runs without any problems again. Unfortunately, I need Apple iTunes to update my iPhone and Apple iTunes will not run without Apple Quicktime installed. Any suggestions?

    Hi Curt (and others),
I do have the latest version of QuickTime (7.6.5). QuickTime forums? Does not work, I have to login, but when I do I get error: Invalid Language ID (no idea what that means). There appears to be no other way to get into contact with Apple.
After some research I found the following 'bypass': when I disable Windows XP compatibility mode for Adobe CS3 Bridge the problem disappears. But, the reasons why I enabled Windows XP Compatibity mode for Adobe CS3 Bridge (rightclick | properties | compatibility) is that it appears that CS3 Bridge tends to loose my preferences at unpredictable intervals. In particular the setting: [V] Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge stops working after a while (few weeks). All of a sudden, double-click opens Camera Raw in CS3 Photoshop instead of in CS3 Bridge.

  • CS3 Bridge & Photoshop freezing after an hours use.

G5/2.0ghz/dual/3gigRAM/OSX58:  When I use CS3 Photoshop and CS3 Bridge at the same time, after about an hours use, Photoshop will freeze with the spinning beachball when I double click one image in Bridge to open it up in Photoshop. Anyone know of any similiar experiences?  Lord, I do not want to go through the CS3 reinstallation if I do not have to. Talk about a mindless waste of time.  jr

First thing to try when in trouble is refreshing the preferences. Restart
Bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences. Set them
again to your wishes and try again.
Also check your free space on your system, less then 10 % free space is
    often causing trouble.

  • Make Searching in CS3 Bridge more like searching within Photoshop Album

For example, in Photoshop album if I wish to see photos that contain BOTH "Tag1" and "Tag2", I click on these two tags and only those photos that contain BOTH of these tags appear.
In Bridge CS3 if I click "Keyword1" and "Keyword2", I see every photo that contains all of these individual keywords. What if I only want to see those photos that contain BOTH "Keyword1" and "Keyword2"?
Please make seraching within CS3 Bridge more like Photoshop Album.

If you click on the match box "all criteria met" seems like that should work as you want.
