CS3 Can't select or fill area in live paint group

Hi, I have Illustrator CS3 on Windows Vista Home Premium. I made a live paint group and colored in the various areas. I was doing more work and noticed that some areas lost their color. I can't select them now as a live group to color.
The outlines can be selected, but not the fills. Also there are a few places where the fill spills out to adjacent area. The gap detection doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I also just downloaded the newest driver for my wacom intuos 2 and it is doing some odd things. Could that have anything to do with it?
Thanks for the help. :)

I'm away from my Photoshop system right now, so I'm sorry for any inaccuracy, but if you select the eye dropper tool in the Tools panel, then look near the top of the Photoshop main window in the options area, do you see a "Sample" selector?  Alternate settings of this selector will probably get you the behavior you want.

  • Live Paint - Selecting the Fills made with live paint

    hi
A few questions about live paint.....
    1) How do you select the fills you make with live paint by color? so you can change their properties ie, transparency, color?
    2) How do you put the Live Painted Fills onto separate layers so you can turn them off/on easily and change their properties?
    thanks

Expand the LivePaint object. Then ungroup as necessary for what you are trying to do.

  • The selected objects cannot be joined as they are invalid objects,( Compound paths, closed paths, Text Objects, Graphs, Live Paint group). You can use Join command to connect two or more paths, paths in groups; ot to close an open path.

Hi I was trying to join two Ractangle Tool objects but getting this type of Error in illustrator cs6 :-
The selected objects cannot be joined as they are invalid objects,( Compound paths, closed paths, Text Objects, Graphs, Live Paint group).

    Please assist me asap.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
This sound like a firewall issue. I would start by disabling the firewall and seeing if you can connect. If this works then you know where the problem is,

  • Using numbers as billing template.  How can I select a print area?

I'm using numbers as a billing template.  How can I select a print area so that I can continue using the same sheet for all the family's bills?

    NGM,
After deciding what you want to print, move that content to a blank Sheet. Print only that Sheet.
This may require that you do some touch-up - delete unneeded rows and columns, perhaps add some text boxes for labels and boilerplate, etc.
Edit: An easier approach might be to move everything that doesn't belong on your template to a different sheet, or at least to a different page of the sheet. In any case, once you have things segregated, print only what you need to have in the invoice based on whole page selections. You can set to print only the current sheet in the Print Dialog, and also in the print dialog you can select which page or pages to print.

  • Why won't AI let me drag the selection icon into a Live Paint group?

I routinely add paths to existing Live Paint Groups, by dragging a path that is outside the group, into the LP group. But AI won't let me drag the "selection icon" from a nested layer, into an existing LP Group. Why?
It seems I'm requesting the same action, but AI won't allow the icon to be dragged into the group. I have to either open the layer and drag the objects directly, or drag the objects into the main layer, then into the Live Paint Group. I think this is an interface flaw. Does anyone follow me and have an observation?
FYI… I realize I could jump into the Live Paint Group using Isolation mode, but that takes extra steps and makes the template less useful.

Live Paint groups can't contain sublayers. When attempting to drag a layer/sub-layer into a Live Paint group you are attempting to add a sub-layer, which Live Paint does not support.
You can drag individual objects into the Live Paint group because they are objects, not layers.
The "Layers" panel is somewhat of a misnomer, it's actually a "Layers and Objects" panel and each will have it's own restrictions.

  • Photoshop CS3, can't import RAW2 what are the steps to succeed?

    Hi
It all started with taking stills with a new Panasonic DSLR. I shot RAW2.
I tried to open at Photoshop CS3 but, though the files are recognized, I can't select them.
I seek guidance to take appropriate steps to resolve this. Thank you for your time. -n
    Steps I took to trouble-shoot:
I updated my Camera Raw plug-in from 4.0 to 4.6
I did that separatly online, without using the Update mode [Adobe Updater] in Photoshop CS3.
I then tried to update Adobe updater to 5.1.1, from my computer, but I received this message:
"Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance"
I did convert succesfully to .DNG and can review the files in Photoshop CS3 but they are over-saturated, creating
hot spots, which makes me suspect I made a mistake during convertion.

    Which Panasonic camera exactly?

What OS are you using? Your profile shows 10.7.3. If you are using Lion, you might try posting in that forum.
I am running 10.8.2, so I may have gotten the result I did because of that.

  • Can we select a particular area in the browser using Flex?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to select particular area of the flex
application in the browser using Flex and generate that area into a
image when an button is clicked?
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, you should google Flex screenshot bitmap, there are a
number of examples. As far as 'selecting' one of the examples may
show this, but you can just use a Canvas or similar for the box
drawing (set background transparent, and just use the borders, and
resize the canvas on mouse events). Otherwise you can do the
Graphics sorite drawing by hand or use something like Degrafa for
fancier, or look up quasimodo marching ants for an animated
    selection technique.

  • Cs2 or cs3 can I select a point on a curve without clicking on it?

When I have a very subtle correction it would be nice to select a point and know for sure it was input 43, output 44 and had not been input 42, output 44 because in trying to select the point on the curve I moved it ever so slightly.

  • Can I select and manipulated hidden photos as a group?

I've been through an album and have hidden some photos as they don't add much to the slide show I'm creating. At this point I would like to do some stuff with the album as it is (without the hidden photos), so I would like to delete all the hidden photos from the album. Is there any way to do this? Similarly, could I export all the hidden photos so as to archive them somewhere, or export the album without the hidden photos? Really I want a way to treat 'hidden' as a status - is any of this possible?

  • Live paint vs. just selecting shapes and filling them

I traced an image in cs5 and am not quite sure what the benefit of using live paint to fill shapes with color with the live paint bucket over selecting the shapes and filling them the traditional way. Besides being able to fill shapes with gaps, what is the benefit of live paint?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
not quite sure what the benefit of using live paint
The benefit of a "flood fill" tool in a vector program is that it can be used to create filled paths corresponding to shapes which only appear to be defined, but are not actually otherwise fillable paths.
For example: Get the Line Tool. Draw four paths in the form of a tic-tac-toe diagram. Now suppose you want to fill that middle "square" with a color.
But there is no actual square to which you can apply a fill. There exists only four open paths. The "square" is just the visual bounds of the intersections of the four open paths. A flood fill tool creates the necessary path and applies a fill to it.
Illustrator's specific flood-fill tool is the so-called Live Paint feature. It's called "live" because it is implemented as a "live effect." That is, the paths it creates automatically are not "nailed down" until the effect is "expanded." That is, the effect gets automatically re-run and re-drawn each time you modify the path(s) to which it is applied. That's why the program has to mark the set of associated paths as a special kind of object that exists just for the benefit of the feature: A "Live Paint Group."

  • Fill area between two lines

    Hello again.
I made two lines with the arc tool, but how I can fill the area between the two lines red ?
    http://s7.directupload.net/images/130830/mbqw2prt.png

Which version of Illustrator are you using?
In case it's a recent one take a look at Live Paint groups and the Shape Builder tool.

  • Thin white line between line art and live paint fill?

I am using live paint to paint cartoon character illustrations.  The artwork is brought into Illustrator CS3 and live traced.  Then I convert it to a live paint group and use the paint bucket to fill.  Everything looks fine no matter how much I zoom in.  If I bring the AI file into Photoshop CS6 I can see a thin white line between the black line art and the fill.  This is most noticeable where black meets black. I can also see this sometimes in file previews while browsing through files.  If the white line cannot be seen in Illustrator is the file ok?  I did just upgrade to CS6 if that would make a difference.
    Thank you for any help.

If the white line cannot be seen in Illustrator is the file ok?
    Without knowing specifics,nobody knows.
    "Okay" for what?
If it looks okay to you in Illustrator, then it's okay for viewing in Illustrator.
If the export of it does not look okay in Photoshop at 1:1 or higher zoom, then it's probably not okay for whatever you're going to do with that raster image.
If it's printed to a low-res composite printer, then it may be okay, because the printer may not be able to resolve the whitish pixels.
If it's printed for commercial (color-separated) reproduction, it may not be okay, depending on the scale at which it will be printed, and on other considerations partially described below.
The autotrace routine does not build traps. Typically, when you color-fill cartoon line art manually, you don't make the shapes that define the fills merely "kiss" the black line work, as would the default treatments of a stupid autotrace. The black line work typically overprints the fills, thereby creating printing traps.
Suppose a portion of your cartoon is a hand-drawn closed circle. The black line work is irregular; it varies in width, having been drawn with a marker or a brush. The circle is colored in with a medium green. There are no sloppy gaps in the original between the green and the black.
You scan it and autotrace it. Unless you apply some deliberate care to make it do otherwise, the autotrace is going to create a compound path, filled with black, and with no stroke; and a green simple path which (hopefully) exactly "kisses" (abuts) the black path. Adobe's on-screen antialiasing of the edge where the two colors abut may or may not cause your monitor to display a faint whitish or grayish sliver between the two colors.
Similarly, Photoshop's rasterization of it, or the rasterization of a raster export filter may do the same, and may actually result in some off-color pixels along the edge. (Your description of the scenario kinda raises the question of why you are auto-tracing something that you're then just going to rasterize in Photoshop anyway. Why do that? Why not just work with the scan in Photoshop?.)
So let's leave Photoshop out of the picture and assume you are autotracing it because you want vector artwork. You zoom way in to see if the whitish sliver enlarges. It doesn't, so you assume it's just an aberation of Illustrator's on-screen antialising. And then someone tells you you're in the clear. But are you? Not so fast.
Let's assume the artwork is destined for commercial (color-separated) printing. Further assume the color of the autotraced black is 100% K, and the color of the autotraced green is 100Y 50C. Three inks involved. None of those three inks are shared between the two objects. So even if the paths do, in fact, perfectly abut, there is no "wiggle room" built in for the minor alignment shifts that almost aways do occur on press.
Bottom line: Even if you do determine that the common antialiasing aberations that frequently occur on-screen in Adobe apps is just that—just an onscreen aberation, that does not necessarily mean your file is suitable for commercial color-separated reproduction.
First, you need to understand that autotracing is not the one-click, instant "conversion" of a raster image to vector artwork that far too many think it to be. Just like everything else, you don't just launch a program like Illustrator, start autotracing things willy-nilly without understanding what's really going on. Just like anyting else, you can use an autotrace feature intelligently or...well...not.
You have options. Illustrator provides an auto-trapping feature. Read up on it in the documentation so you understand what it's all about. Alternatively, you can expand the results of your autotrace, select all the black linework and apply a composite color that includes 100% K and reasonable percentages of C, M, and Y (a so-called "rich black"). Or,depending on the artwork and the desired results, you may consider doing the autotrace as centerlines so you have stroked paths, not just filled paths for the linework. That way, using the flood fill (so called LivePaint) will cause the auto-created fill objects to extend to the paths, not just to the edges of their strokes. Then set the linework to overprint.
At any rate, if you are doing this professionally, you need to read up on the principles and practices of trapping and color separation.
