CS3 cannot open LR 2.1 exported DNG - resolution

This is informational and may be of help to someone else in the future.
Background: CS3 had been on my machine for some time and working fine with LR 1.3. After upgrading to LR 2.1, when I attempted to open any exported DNG files in CS3 (using open as dialog), I received an error from CS3: "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document."
If I re-inported the DNG and exported it again as DNG, that version of the file would open fine. So I decided to download and reinstall CS3 and now the initial exported version opens fine.

Do you have ACR 4.6? That's the version you need in CS3 for compatibility with LR 2.1.

  • Encore CS3 cannot open CS2 project: folder cannot be found

I created a project in Encore CS2 under Win XP, and when I try to open it in CS3 under Vista, I get an error of
Cannot open project; The folder for this project cannot be found.
Disregarding the fact that I haven't changed, moved or deleted any subfolders or files and the drive has the same letter and label as before, why the heck doesn't Encore at least give me the opportunity to direct it to the correct folder? I can do this easily in almost all other applications, like InDesign or Dreamweaver. Shouldn't this error have come up in the first few days of beta testing? (Uh, it
    was beta tested.....right?)
I tried looking in the ProjectPrefs and ProjectWorkspace xml files, but they don't have any folder info. Searches in the knowledge base, forums and newsgroups have turned up nothing. It seems my only choice here is to recreate the fracking project from scratch!

    >(Uh, it was beta tested.....right?)
No. It wasn't. The Encore team is so good at coding and spell-checking that the Product Manager and the Director of the Production Studio project both felt that beta testing was not necessary this time around.
It's really pretty impressive that so few bugs have turned up in real-world use considering that both internal and external beta testing was shelved for this release. The additional resources that would have been used to test the app were sent to the Photoshop team to ensure that the CS3 release of PS was flawless.

  • Cannot Open Excel File after exporting from Disco Plus

    Hi there,
I got a question from one user having issue with opening Excel file after exporting from Disco Plus.
The report has been using for a while and he is using Excel 2003 version and Discoverer 10g(10.1.2.2), he never got this kind of error before, just recently got error.
After exporting from Disco Plus he saved file on his desktop and when he tries to open the excel it says "Cannot be Accessed, can be corrupted...." but this is not from network drive since he saved file on local desktop or C drive.
Also not for all reports, only this particular report and only specific parameter, for example for parameter 2008 Feb opened successfully, but for2009 Feb he gets this error when trying to open excel.
i tried in excel 2007 also , i dont think this is Excel version error, am not sure.
Also after go live last week (we upgraded database from 9i to 10g) but i am not sure this causes ,since for one parameter working, for other parameter not working.
Actually we should get one window for Macro when we try to open excel, but he is not getting it seems.
Any ideas/thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

    Rod,
Thanks for your quick response on this.
Yes, we can export to other formats as well, but actually exporting is working, after saving the file on our local desktop/drive and when we try to open we get this kind messages or we cannot open the file, we should get message window for Macro to enable/disable but for this report we are not getting this either,
Also this happens only for specific parameters, like i mentioned above it works I mean excel file opens for one set of parameters but for some other set of parameters cannot open.
For example :- when we enter FEB 2008 it works, if we enter FEB 2009 it won't open the file.
    This is weird
I am still working on this issue, may be better to recreate the report again might be helpful,
    Any ideas/comments/thoughts would be great
    Thanks

  • CS3 - Cannot open RAW files

I am new to the forum. I just purchased a new PC w/Windows 7 (64 bit). CS3 was reinstalled on the new PC. Now I cannot open RAW files. The error message states "Could not complete request because it is not the right kind of document." Adobe tech support advised me that Adobe products currently do not support the 64 bit. I have no clue how to proceed. Help!!!!!

I, too, am new to this forum,
so please excuse me if this seems redundant.  Last night I downloaded an
upgrade of CS3 onto my HP computer.  It runs Windows 7.
I remembered that I had to download a new ACR software, after the RAW file would not open in CS3.  I downloaded the software, extracted ACR, but it will not open.  On top of that, Bridge is telling me that it may not be compatable with the OS of my HP.
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • CS3 cannot open original TIF file after "save as" Photoshop PDF

Mac OS X 10.4.11, Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1), 2.5 GB RAM, and the files are saved to the afp file server (Windows Server 2000 SP4 running Services For Macintosh). When saving a TIF file as a PDF the original TIF file cannot be opened again.
Once Photoshop starts doing this I have to restart the system before the corruption problem goes away. The problem with that is if I do not catch it, I might convert 20 or so files in a day before I catch the problem. Once the TIF files are corrupt, the only thing I can do is restore from backup (long process) or save as again from the PDF file to TIF to place in my InDesign file. When I open the original TIF file I get an error: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file." OR "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing a TIFF file."
Has anyone else had this problem?

    Justin,
    >and the files are saved to the afp file server
If you are saving directly to the server, that can be trouble, particularly if IT is clueless or not vigilant about network issues and maintenance. Adobe specifically warns against working across your network. Please see the FAQ and numerous topics on this "problem".
Basically, drag-copy the file to your local drive. Work locally. Save locally. Drag-copy the completed file back to the server.
Let us know if working as I've just described "solves" the problem.

  • Photoshop cs3 cannot open files

When I try to bring in a file and click on open in photoshop cs3 run on windows xp, the directory of files will flash for a second then disappear and photoshop freezes up.  I have to then go to the task wizard to end it and when I try to end it it says the program is waiting on a response from me.  Any idea how to fix this?  I have had photoshop installed on this computer for and running fine for almost 2 years.  It has been acting up for about a week.  I tried doing updates, repairing,  unistalling and reinstalling, running virus scans, cleaning up disk space and defragmenting.  Nothing has worked.  Any help would be appreciated.

The first thing that needs clarification is: are you opening the PSD in Illy or are you placing it? Opening is not recommended. Placing is okay (if it's a layered PSD, someone else will need to address that).
The second you already know: CS3 (at least) does not do well in any 64-bit OS, Vista or otherwise.
The third is: what is the size of the file you're trying to open/place. I've been unable to place any file 200MB or more (forcing me to do in PS what I'd rather do in Illy) although that may have had something to do with physical dimensions of the file I was trying to place.

  • CS3: Cannot open RAW/NEF files from my Nikon

After I reinstalled my harddisk and my CS3, Bridge and PS will not open the RAW files from my Nikon D90.
    Wgat do I do?

Niels, it's actually a nice thing that Adobe provides after-the-release updates, or you'd never have had D90 support with Photoshop CS3.  But you're right, if the automatic features of the software don't work right, you have to work through manual installations and then things can get a bit geeky.  But you're a PC/Windows user - you have to be tough!
To use the Help - About Plug-in feature, in Photoshop click the Help menu, then the About Plug-in entry, then go over and click Camera Raw...
This is the dialog you should see, if your Camera Raw is fully up to date (note the 4.6):

  • CS3 - Cannot Open Library

    Hi,
I work with ID CS3, Windows XP.  We are on a network system.  As of last week, I no longer have "library".  It is not in my side bar.  When I go to file open and select a library, I get the following error:
The exception unknown softw3are exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x78138aa0.
Click on okay to terminate the program.
I have to choose okay, and when I do ID shuts down.
    Please advise.
    Thank you
    Barb

The recommended workflow is to copy all files to the local machine before editing, then back to the network location when you're done. That said, lots of people get away with working directly on the network (including me) most of the time, but we've probably all been bitten at least once.
Check with IT and see if they have a backup from a week or so ago. If valuable assets are stored on a server, it's usually to facilitate both access and backup.
If the library isn't needed by anyone else, I'd certainly at least move a copy to your local machine, once you've got it working.

  • Cannot open message in Exchange mailbox

I am using Mail v4.4 (1082) with an Exchange server. Regularly, when double-clicking on a mail message, the message will refuse to open. This happens with read and unread messages and appears to be random.
I have tried to open the messages via double-click and by pressing "Return."
I do not believe this is a connection issue with the Exchange server, as I can still send and receive emails - I just cannot open the emails.
The only resolution I have found is to reboot.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you.

You either restart or reset your phone and the issue should resolve.

  • Cannot open DNG files in CS3 or Lightroom?

When I convert RAW files from my new DMC-LF1 camera to DNG, I can not open the files in CS3 or Lightroom. Isn't DNG supposed to be a universal format?
I do not have problems with converted DNG files from my Nikon cameras.

I use the free Adobe DNG Converter vers. 8.1 der supporter mit Panasonic DMC-LF1. I just downloaded this version and now am able to open my Panasonic DNGs in Lightroom, but not in CS3. There are no problems opening my Nikon DNGs in both programs.
This certainly leaves the problem about DNG as a universal format lasting far out in the future, doesn't matter what camera the file came from.

As far as I know DNG is supposed to be standardised format. What are you using to convert the RAW files to DNG?

  • Hi There, cannot open an InDesign document in CS3. Getting Plugin errors

I have a InDesign document created in CS4. I cannot access the file from a computer with CS3. I get a lot of plugin errors at the start up.
Please help as this is a very important document

@Naga Sai J – you cannot open an InDesign CS4 file in the previous version.
But you can export an exchange file format for InDesign CS3.
Go to File/Export and chose INX for export: "InDesign CS3 Interchange-Format (INX)"
That .inx file could be opened with InDesign CS3.
After opening the .inx file, examine it well!
Some things might have changed (things regarding to newer or changed features from InDesign CS4).

  • PC users cannot open my Pages-exported PDF documents

Has anyone encountered this? When I want to give someone a PDF, I need to export it from Pages, choose "Open with Adobe Reader," and then re-save from Reader as a different name. (If I just export from Pages, some PC users cannot open it.) When I look at the file information for these two supposed PDFs, the one that's only exported from Pages says "Portable Document Format (PDF)" and the one opened and resaved with Reader says "Adobe PDF Document." What's going on here? Is there a reason my PC friends can't open a Pages-generated PDF?

Thanks for the suggestions. Funny, when I changed the "Open With" selection inside the "File Info" box to tell it to use Reader, it it still tells me in the "General" information section that it's a "Portable Document Format (PDF)", but it does replace the "Preview" icon in the upper left with the Adobe logo. Only the version that I physically opened with Reader and re-saved lists the "Kind" of document as an "Adobe PDF Document". Wacky.
Regarding the extension, when I exported from Pages, the "Hide Extension" box was unchecked in the "Save" window, yet the file's PDF extension is in fact hidden (and the "File Info" box also says it's hidden). What's up with that? Grr.
Seems like a small bug--now I just have to get some PC-using friends to let me know which ones they can open! Thanks for your (tres rapide) help guys!

  • Cannot open image files in PS CS3 from Bridge CS3

Cannot open file in Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) from Bridge CS3 (2.1.1.9)
Tried choosing File>Open and double clicking the image thumbnail
Error dialogue box pops up and reads:
    Windows cannot find\C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Photoshop.exe
I wouldnt expect CS\Photoshop.exe to be found because CS3\Photoshop.exe upgrade is installed.
Will downloading the Adobe Photoshop update for Adobe Photshop CS3 (11/15/2007) or Adobe Bridge CS3 update for Adobe Bridge CS3 (11/15/2007) be my best bet for correcting this problem?

Thanks to Freeagent for pointing me to the solution.
    For fellow Windows XP user's:
Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types
It would have been nice if the Install Wizard of PS would have handled this automatically or had an advisory instruction to manually associate image files in Windows XP.
I thought all along this was a Photoshop CS3 / Bridge CS3 problem since Bridge was calling for both the image file and Photoshop.
If Freeagent has anyone's ear at Adobe please pass this on.
    Thanks Again
