CS3 Classroom in a book "Chapter 9" Error

Iv been working through the Classroom in a book for
dreamweaver CS3 and in chapter 9 it talks about xml and Creating
Interactive Pages. The files included have a xml file as well as a
suposidly compleated and working example page that is how my page
should look after i'm done with the chapter. Problem i'm haivng is
this. Both my page AND the adobe provided example page give me an
error message and isnt working and i cant figure out what is wrong
:/. I'm not ver knowledgable of xml, but i dont see how it could be
something i'm doing wrong becuase even the example page provided by
the book doesnt work. The error message i get is in the form of a
box with a red heading on top that gives the message "Exception
caught while loading clients.xml: [object Error]".
the xml file is attached. Any help would be great. ty very
much in advance :). Let me know if you need any aditional info to
figure this out :).

What is the question (for the benefit of those of us who do
not use the web
interface to the forums)?

Has anyone read Dreamweaver CS3 Classroom in a book? I am
    having problems with Chapter 9. When I view spry_final.htm in IE7 I
get the following error, "Exception caught while loading clients
xml[object.error]". Works good in Firefox. Any ideas?

See - not everyone here is using the webforum. In fact, most
    of the people
who consistently post answers are not - we are coming in via
    newsreaders and
the NNTP mirror of the webforum. So, when you reference a
    previous thread,
with a link to something that could be months old, it does us
    no good.
That's why I requested a restatement of the symptoms.
Now - that said, I still have very little idea what you are
    describing. On
the other hand, it probably doesn't matter, since I am not
    versed either in
this particular book/chapter, or in XML processing (I assume
    that's what you
are doing). So - I'll back away and let others jump on this
    thread....

    Hi,
I have the book Adobe Illustrator CS3 classroom in a book but I have miss placed the CD.
does anyone have an online copy that I could download as it has lessons on it that compliment the book.
    cheers.

    Hi Monika,
My apologies for such a late reply, life has a way of showing up in very interesting ways ...
Thank you for your reply and suggestion, much appreciated.  I didn't find the title "Adobe Illustrator 10, Classroom in a Book" in either AdobePress.com or Peachpit.com, the title is to old and they no longer carry it, which is why I posted the question here in hopes of someone still having a copy of the CD and perhaps be willing to share the exercise files.
I guess I may have no other recourse but to try ebay and the like, as you suggested.
    Thank You

  • DW CS3 Classroom in a book

I just purchased DW CS3 and the subject book. I've
gone through the first four lessons and I'm finding errors on the
book. Some thing just don't work in DW the way the book instructs
me to do things. I'm finding errors in typing too. Most I can work
through, some I can't. Has anyone used this book to learn DW CS3?
    Thanks,

  • Flash CS3 Classroom in a Book Page 49

Hopefully there is someone out there that is faviliar with
the book.I am a 3 hour long Flash newbee and don't pretend to have
a clue about Flash vocabulary/terminology, but here is my problem.
On this page I'm asked to drag a rectangle with the
seclection tool accross the bottom one-fourth of a drawing that has
a bitmap fill. It is supposed to then let me create a gradient fill
in just that part of the drawing. However, when I drag the
rectangle across the bottom, it selects the whole drawing.
Is there a missprint in the book? Did they leave something
out of the instructions? Or (most likely) am I just a raving
    lunitic that can't read?

    JayWoody,
    > Is there a missprint in the book? Did they leave

    lunitic that can't read?
It might be a misprint -- unfortunately, typos/errors do
    happen in most
reference books I've seen (including a handful in one I
    co-authored). I
haven't read the Flash Classroom in a Book, but after reading
    what you
wrote, I can imagine why your selection might always grab the
    whole image.
It could be that what you have is actually an imported
    bitmap itself,
rather than a shape with a bitmap fill. You'll know right
    away by selecting
it and looking at the Property inspector. If it's still a
    bitmap, that
panel will say so. If it's a shape with a bitmap fill, the
    panel will say
shape. You'll only be able to select the way you want if the
    object is a
shape. If the object is still a bitmap, select it and go to
    Modify > Break
Apart. That turns it into a shape.
If that's not it, post a reply and we'll figure it out. :)

  • Flash CS3 Classroom In A Book Page 75 question

I'm very new to Flash. I've just completed lesson 2 in
Classroom In A Book and come to the last page (pg. 75) where it
concludes with a neat tip: "To use this animation in other
projects, you can copy all keyframes from the main Timeline and
paste them into a new movie clip symbol, which you can then place
wherever you want to use it."
Neat tip, but I'm such a beginner, I need the step by step
method of how to do what it says. First of all, there are lots of
keyframes in this lesson. Do I shift-select each one of them and
then Edit>Copy to the clipboard and then paste the clipboard
contents into the library somehow? This statement flies right over
the head as the book has not covered copying keyframes or anything
    like this so far.
Help from more experienced users is my only hope now.
    TIA,
    Ken

"To use this animation in other projects, you can copy all
keyframes from the main Timeline and paste them into a new movie
clip symbol, which you can then place wherever you want to use it.
"To use this animation in other projects, you can copy all
    keyframes..."
To select the frames you want, left-click on the first frame
you want (and by frame, i mean first key frame...it'll be easier
for you this way) then hold down shift and left-click the last
frame you want (and by frame, i mean either frame or key frame).
you can tell these frames have been selected because they're
highlighted black. Next right click on the last frame you selected
    and select Copy Frames.
    "...from the main Timeline..."
By main timeline, they mean the timeline you're currently
working on. There's no secondary timelines really unless you're
trying to edit something...but that's another lesson.
"...and paste them into a new movie clip symbol,..."
Alright, after you've copied the frames, go to Insert (it's
in your menu bar), and select New Symbol. Name the symbol and
select Movie Clip. After doing this, it'll take you to the timeline
for the movie clip you've just created. (i guess this could be
considered a secondary timeline since you're editing this new movie
clip by pasting the frames there).
" ...which you can then place wherever you want to use it."
Right-click on the blank keyframe in the timeline, select
Paste Frames. And there you go =)
Also, as a sidenote, if you want your whole animation to be
copied (everything in your main timeline), right click on any frame
(frame or keyframe in the main timeline), select Select All Frames.
They'll all be selected, then just follow the steps starting with
    the right-click -> Copy Frames.
    Hope this helps =)

  • E-book of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book do you get disc?

I was going to purchase an e-book of the above referenced book, but I know the hard copy comes with a disc of project pictures and misc. items for the activities. Does the e-book come with links or anything to that stuff? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

if you bought it from the respected store It will lead you inside Link inside area in which only adobe product can give you the clue about that, usually ebook is kind of manual to use all the other followed material so you certainly will need to read that e-book

  • "Photoshop classroom in a book" chapter 12 wine glass disappears after 3D layer merging. the object didnt disappear it is just smaller, it is labeled objmesh is the 3D panel.

you can select the objmesh layer in the 3D panel and scale the image up to see the wine glass. It took me a wfhile to think of this because the book does not tell you to rename the wine glass file when you import it. So if you are looking or the words Wine, or Glass, or both you will not find them. Once again the Wine Glass layer is labled "objmesh"

the book i have does not state which edition it is. But as you can see, i found the file, it was just mislabeled. i osted this just in case someone else has the same problem.

  • CS4 In design Classroom in a book Chapter 10 - can't move library image on to pasteboard

I have opened the indl library file and can see all 14 photos and icons.
When I try and use the selection tool and click and drag a photo or an icon to the pasteboard I get a dull bleep and nothing else happens.
The layer does not have a lock icon (my first thoughts).
I am a novice on in-design, and I am hoping this is a simple question.
thanking you all in advance for your assistance.

    PawPrint,
Peachpit Press has this downloadable errata:

The library used in Chapter 10 was created in a pre-release version of InDesign CS4 and does not work properly. Please replace it with this library.

  • CS3 - Classroom in a Book - Help for real beginner please!

I'm literally only on lesson 4 of this course so please forgive my ignorance!  Using the Quick Selection Tool the course tells me to "  Choose Edit > Copy and Edit > Paste to paste the selection on a new layer."  I get a message which says "could not complete the Copy command because the selected area is empty".
I'm sure there is a simple explanation but I just can't find it - please can anyone help this pure beginner from going entirely mad?
    Judy

Is the layer that you want to copy from the active layer?  In the example below I used the quick selection tool to select some of the image (you can see the "marching ants" in the lower right corner), but since a new empty layer is active and not the layer I want to copy from, the error message you describe is displayed.

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Classroom in a Book Chapter 10

While converting my vertical menu library item to a Spry Vertical Menu, my <div.content> element dropped down on the page. Pages 244-45 offer a "fix" for this issue (deleting the second ul.MenuBarVertical rule) and I did this, but <div.content> still isn't returning to its origional position (i.e. it's still dropping to the bottom right of the vertical Spry Menu Bar Menu Bar 1 (side_content) and directly to the right of the div .sidebar1).
I'm running DW CS5.5 on my machine, will this make a difference?

Thanks for the suggestion, Hans.  Unfortunately, I'm using a different type of Spry Menu than what Gramps was referring to.  Attached is a screenshot that might help provide a visual of what's going on.  Main_content should float to the right of side_content.  I've tried resizing the width of the Spry Menu in side_content, but that doesn't seem to work.  Instead, main_content will either float further to the right, or it will slightly overlap the sidebar image placeholder.  Any suggestions? I can provide code if needed.

  • Is there a Classroom-In-a Book for SB CS4?

    Aloha Friends,
I just purchased Creative Suite CS4 sometime ago and I've been having a great time learning each one of the programs. I've purchased the CS4 Classroom in a Book for many of them, but I can't find one for SB CS4.  I see there is a SB CS3 Classroom in a Book.  Would that edition suffice with even the content in the dvd that comes with the book?
    Thanks for any help.

I too used to be a book person for software training. In the last year I have begun using video tutorials. So much easier to carry around with me! I started with lynda and later cancelled and moved over to www.designprovideo.com and macprovideo too.
I decided to buy the Soundbooth tutorial because with the high def download I keep it for life and it plays in this special player that has instant "mac esq Spotlight" search features. It's like an index for a book but better. You type in a word or part of a word and the player shows you any individual videos (from all tutorials) related to your search!
Another reason I bought it instead of streaming it is I have transfered it to my iPhone yesterday. So I was watching parts of the tutorial on the way back from a meeting with a client. No net access needed. Way cool! Sure, there is the screen size limitation - but It suprised me how much I could get from the tutorial by listening and following the action on the screen.
Still, I will miss books when they eventually are replaced by ebooks and videos.
