CS3 converting not importing mp4 generated in animoto

I'm trying to import mp4 files from animoto, and not having any luck.  Any suggestions?

What is animoto, and exactly what is inside that mp4 wrapper?

  • ITunes will not import mp4-files.

For some reason iTune will not import mp4-files into iTunes. The files only contain audio, no video. I know that mp4 is a format that combines the two.
The files were generated in an earlier version of iTunes, like in 2006 or something. They were imported from CD's. I can locate them just fine on my computer and they play without problem in Windows Media Player.
The problem is that when I try to import them the way that iTunes want me to import files its like they don't exist. ITunes locates the folders and sub-folders, but its like there's no content in the folders...
I've tried changing my import settings but nothing seems to help...
Have any of you encountered a similar problem, could you fix it and how?
I've contacted Apple-support but they were unable (incompetent) to assist me...
To me it seems like the only option left is to convert all the files, like 2 GB, from mp4 to mp3.
Thankful for any help I could get solving this ***** of an issue...

iTunes can handle just about any file format that works with QuickTime and will play any file purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you've got video files that end with a .mov, .m4v, or .mp4 file extension, you can import them to iTunes with ease. However, the video especially the MP4 video must meet the following specifications: it must be encoded as 540 kbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with an approximately 128 kbit/s AAC audio track or encoded as 1.5 Mbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with a minimum 128 kbit/s AAC audio track. If not, you will fail to import MP4 to iTunes.
Even if your MP4 files meet the above specifications and are added to iTunes successfully, it may still fail to sync to iOS devices. For iPhones, iPads, and video-capable iPods play videos in more specific video formats and codecs.

  • FCP not importing mp4...

When I try to import a QuickTime mp4 file into FCHD I get a message which states, "File Error: 1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown." and that's it!
But the same file imports fine into iMovie HD with the audio and everything. What gives?
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

FCP is designed to handle Broadcast and above standards. Mp4 is not.
If you need to continue working with these types of files stick with iMovie or buy QTPro and convert it to DV.
Also, read the manual and do the tutorials... you're in for a long road.

  • CS6 not importing .mp4 files

Hi everyone.  I am switching from cs5.5 to cs6.  I still have cs5.5 on my computer and just now cs6.  The problem, I have run into is when I try to import a .mp4 video file AE cs6 tells me "After Effects error: file '132_2250_01.MP4' cannot be imported - this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported"
Yet, the same .mp4 file opens up just fine inside Premiere Pro cs6 and AE cs5.5
So, I'm working on a project and it looks like I have to finish it in cs5.5
Any reasonable explanation?  Thanks for your help.
PS-All other .mov .avi files open up just fine in AE cs6
Only files that are giving me a problem with cs6 are the ones I recorded with my Sony EX Cam.  CS5.5 never has.
    Again, thanks for any help

Well batch rendering clips before use is a fairly common practice.  For example, when I used FCP it always had trouble editing interleaved codecs like H.264 because they use poster frames, which had a tendency to get damaged during the trimming process in the edit.  Therefore, whenever editing Canon EOS footage like the H.264 clips from a 5D Mark II or 7D, you had to use an FCP plugin called Log and Transfer to change the H.264 EOS clips to something FCP could handle.  This plugin was essentially a very similar window to the log and capture window, designed to transfer your clips to whatever format you preferred to edit in, and in the case of Canon EOS footage, a Prores422 codec was usually ideal.  This process of logging and transferring all your clips to a new codec usually took hours and hours and was a very obnoxious extra step.  However, now that I'm switching to Premiere I don't have worry about that any longer.  Kevin Monahan just informed me that Premiere Pro CS 5 accepts nearly all codecs to go natively including H.264, and it has no problems with the poster frames.
The point is, I know that batch rendering your clips before use is a painful extra step, but it used to be something I had to do every single time I wanted to edit something out of Canon EOS camera, which I used all the time.  I wish I new why CS6 was having trouble with your .mp4s, but that codec is usually used for lower res video and I have a feeling they should transfer much quicker than 5D footage. Besides, I think you'll feel much better about having your clips in a reliable format like prores.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Will Not Import Any Files

I connected my Motorola DVR to my PC (Windows XP SP2)  with HD content passing through a Firewire 1394 connection.  I opened a new Premiere Pro CS3 (Master Collection) file and accidentally selected capture.  The computer immediately went to blue screen.  After rebooting I cannot import any files into new or old Premiere Pro projects.  It appears I compromised the software when I accidentally hit the capture button.  Encore works fine so I am assuming the problem is only with Premiere Pro.  Is there any way of reinstalling only Premiere Pro from the CS3 Master Collection disc set without having to reinstall the entire suite of programs?

You may be better off installing the whole suite again.

  • Flash won't import mp4 from Camtasia, demands an FLV; Media encoder won't convert to FLV; H264 isn't accepted either.

Flash won't accept the basic mp4 output from Camtasia, it tells me to use Media Encoder to convert it to FLV.
Media Encoder won't convert to F4V or FLV.
I used Media Encoder to convert to H264, but Flash will still not import it.
Could somebody please tell me the best export / convert / import options for getting Camtasia video into Flash (as an embedded video - can't do streaming).
    Any tips much appreciated.

  • Importing mp4 into Flash 8, converting to FLV

I just finished taking a Flash Video class where I understood
I could import an MP4 and convert in to an FLV using encoding tools
that come with Flash Professional 8. However, I opened a new FLA
just now and tried to import an MP4 (File -> Import Video),
Flash would not recognize the sample MP4 I have sitting on my
    desktop.
I downloaded a demo copy of On2 FlixPro and it did recognize
the MP4, is converting it to an FLV as I write this.
Did I misunderstand about importing MP4s into Flash 8
Professional? Is it in fact not possible. Or might there have been
something I didn't do or didn't do correctly before importing? If
so, what might it have been?
    Thanks in advance.

The MP4 file extension does not appear in the filetype
    filter of the
Import dialog, but if you select "All Files (*.*)," that
    should work. I've
imported MP4s (they're MPGs, after all), but the extension
    doesn't appear
under the "All Video Formats" choice. (I'm hoping this is
    what you mean by
    "would not recognize," anyway.)

  • ITunes will not import some .mp4 content, metadata problem?

I have been importing movies and TV shows for years into iTunes so that my disabled son can watch them on his AppleTV but lately I have been having a problem getting some to go into iTunes.  This batch is part of season 9 and 10 of Smallville.  I imported about half of the two seasons no problem but the other half will not import.  I have ripped all my movies and TV episodes off of disks that I own using Handbreak and WinX DVD Ripper for Mac and it has worked just fine for over 1050 movies and 6200 TV episodes and I was able to import all of season 9 and 10 of Smallville into my laptop's iTunes no problem but on my son's iMac no luck.  Both computers are running Mac OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1(7) and all content is on two 3TB external hard drives.  That is two external drives for the laptop and two for the iMac.  After burning, content on one external drive is copied to the other computer's external drive and imported to iTunes on that computer. This way I have a backup copy of all my iTunes video content and two completely independent iTunes and AppleTV's.  But on my son's computer 16 episodes will not go in.  I "command O" like normal but no import bar is noted and no content can be found.  I believe that this problem is due to metadata content.  I am also have a little trouble getting some TV content to switch from Music or Movie Media Kind to TV Media Kind and I know that this is a metadata problem.  Also some of the episodes have been in iTunes before either from the Apple Store or ripped and then deleted for one reason or the other.  I therefore believe that there is a file in iTunes that is telling the program that the episodes I now want to import are already in iTunes and therefore should not go in twice.  I have tried changing the episode names and importing, no luck and I even edited an episode using MPEG Streamclip, removing some content, and then resaving it under another name, no luck either.  Any ideas would be helpful.  I know the Media Kind problem has been address before but now I cannot find it so a link to that discussion would also be helpful.  Thank you for any help.

I have the same issue here. My daughter has an iPod Touch4 and I have been importing mp4's with no problems up until the last iTunes update. Now I get nothing. No message, not activity, nothing. Either this is a new bug in iTunes or they have now eliminated the import ability.
I am sick and tired of apple and their hand-holding, big-brother coddling. My daughters iPod is the last Apple product we have and now I think it's time to totally part ways with Apple and go all in with Android. We have already converted all our phones from Apple to Android. The Samsung Galaxy Player looks like a great replacement to the iPod.

  • Is it bad to convert .mts to .mp4, then import to iMovie?

I know i can import the .mts into iMovie 10 direclty, but I have a number of issues with that. First, if I import the .mts into imovie, that converts them to .mov and stores them as a copy in the iMovie Library. Unless I delete those .mov files or my original .mts files, I'll have to store both files (twice the storage since the .mov files are the same size as the .mts files). And if I delete the .mov files, that leads me to the second issue: I lose all the trimming work that I would do in iMovie on those .mov files. I'd prefer that (1) i don't have to store multiple copies of the same video long term; and (2) i don't lose any trimming/editing work that i do on the video files. One option of course is to just delete my original .mts files, but that seems bad for some reason. Another option I've come up with is to use lightroom to trim/edit the video files in a non-destructive manner, then export the trimmed/edited video files to my hard drive as .mp4 files, and then import those .mp4 files into imovie. Obviously, though, I want to make sure that doing this extra export/import step maintains my video at the highest HD quality. So, my questions:
    (1) Do you see any problem with deleting my original .mts files, in favor of the .mov files in the imovie library, so as not to store multiple copies?
    (2) If (1) poses a problem, do you see any problem with converting .mts to .mp4 using lightroom, and then importing .mp4 into imovie?
    (3) Any better workflow that you know of that meets my needs?
    Thanks!

In iMovie 10 you can only trim clips in a project timeline and not in an event so the only way you can save trimmed clips is if you trim before importing into iMovie.   (This is a major change since iMovie 9).
The normal way is to import directly from the camera or SD card into iMovie.  It will strore one copy in the "Original Media" folder in your library.
Alternatively (and what I do) is as you suggest, to drag .mts files copied to disk into an event or project timeline.
You can then delete them from the hard drive used by imovie but I would recommend you store your .mts files (or better the AVCHD package) somewhere else as a back-up.
This second option is needed if want to trim clips (using for example Quicktime Player) before transferring to iMovie.
    I hope this helps.
    Geoff.

If you have the original movie files, you'd be much better converting those, otherwise try MPEGstreamclip.

  • Imported MP4 clip from my HD will not thumbnail

I created a new project then imported an MP4 clip from my HD as a new event but it does not thumbnail. When the event is selected the event window says "video not found" The same clip  playsjust  fine on Quicktime. I tried closing iMovie and reopening to no avail. I also tried deleting and reimporting. It still says video not found and I cannot drag the event into the project window.

I have the same camera, and I have imported mp4 videos at 30p successfully into iMovie 9.09.
However, I'm running Mavericks (10.9.1), and I pull the SDHC card from the camera and  plug it into the slot in the back of the Mac. I did consider importing directly from the camera, but to do that you have to put the camera into Playback mode, select the AVCHD playback, and only then connect to the Mac via USB; if the camera doesn't give you dire warnings after the USB connection, iMovie won't be able to import anything: See http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KMTEI2HV1E8M/ref=cm_srch_res_rtr_alt_1 The camera import dialog in iMovie 9.09 has a dropdown menu at the bottom of the dialog on the left allowing you to choose the AVCHD or MP4 selections from the camera.
I'm now moving to iMovie 10 which while it has its problems and editing is not very intutitive, is much faster at importing from the camera and exporting the edited movie. I use mChapters from the App Store to add chapters to the exported movie (after changing the exported file suffix from mp4 to m4v in the Finder). So for my purposes, I can pretty much use iMovie 10 for the same applications as I did with 9.09.
As suggested earlier on this Thread, upgrading to Mavericks and at least iMovie 9.09 will likely allow you to use your camera as you wish. iMoive 10 will give you expanded options with the camera.

  • Air imports Mp4-File without a problem, MacBook does not!?

I have downloaded a flash file from Youtube and converted it to MP4 with CosmoPod. Then I tried to import it into iMovie08 and it worked great with my MacBook Air. But when I try to import the same file on my black MacBook I keep running into a problem: the clip gets imported into iMovie and the thumbnail pictures in the timeline are shown correctly, but when I want to view it, there is no video, only audio!?
How can that be? When there is a problem with the encoding of the source file it should effect both Macs, right? Is there perhaps a prefs switch I have to flip on the MacBook to make it work?

Have you got the same plug-ins for QT installed on both macs.

    Hi
We are looking for a software which converts SWF to MP4, we found many software which does the job but issue is file size is not optimize.
We found Adobe captivate 6 which gives optimum quality with good output but thing is we do not have batch process in captivate 6. so we request you to create a plugin or give a best option which have batch render quality and optimize in file size,

Captivate is e-learning development software not a dedicated video convertor, you are better off trying something like Adobe Media Encoder or Super.

  • IPhoto 9.4.2 does not show mp4 movies to import from SD Card

Hello mates, since last december when I reformatted my Macbook, iPhoto is not showing the movies in my SD Card when I import photos. Before formatting, it always showed the photos and movies, but I don't know what happened or what I have to do to make it show and import the movies again.
If I copy the movie from SD Card to Desk and try to import it to iPhoto, it does, but when I close and reopen iPhoto, it does not show the movie there anymore and If I open the contents of iPhoto Library and check for the file, it is there fisically.
What could be happening to my iPhoto?
    Thanks in advance.

but it still does not accept mp4 movies neither show them in my sd card when I plug it in my MBP.
Is this when you plug in the memory card into the MBP card reader? What do you see in the card when you use the card reader?  Is the Finder view preferences set to show memory cards on the Desktop when inserted into the reader?
