CS3 Crash on Startup

Hi there,
I've been running Photoshop CS3 Extended on my PC for 3 years and never had any problems. About a month ago I was having some issues with Flash video playing (both in IE and Firefox) and made some edits to my PC to try to fix it. These included reinstalling Flash and my browsers, though ultimately I traced the problem to Adaware (which I've uninstalled) which I had forgotten was even installed. Sometime later -- maybe a week -- I went to edit something in PS and it crashed on start up.
When PS crashes, it launches and doesn't even make it to the splash screen -- it crashes immediately with the message that PS has encountered a problem and needs to close. There's only a few seconds from when it starts to when it crashes.
I initially tried using system restore, and had a lot of problems getting it to restore to an early enough point. I then tried repairing the program by putting the original disc in, but I  discovered at that point that I was unable to access Photoshop at all -- clicking on Remove/Edit in Add/Remove Programs just made my PC hang for a minute then nothing would happen. After a great deal of fiddling around, I finally got to a very early restore point. This did not fix the problem, but it did allow me to uninstall PS. I've since uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times, with no success.
After reading some forum threads about similar issues I tried deleting out all my non-system fonts, but that did not help either.
I've also checked all my drivers and everything is up to date. Aside from Flash, there's been nothing new installed on my PC since before the problem.
I'm hoping someone here might have some insight. If I can supply more technical info, let me know -- I'm not sure what might be useful.
Thanks.

Here's what the event log says: Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 10.0.1.0, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.4053, fault address 0x00014500.
I have not installed 12.0.3 update -- I'm running CS3 and this is listed as an update for CS5.
One thing I neglected to mention initially -- I also have Flash and Dreamweaver CS3, and Illustrator CS2, and all are working fine. Photoshop is the only program I'm having any issues with.
I did a quick search on photoshop msvcr80.dll and came across at least one known issue that Adobe has addressed here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402202.html -- interestingly I do have an intellipoint mouse and the driver installed. I removed the driver and installed the update, but no change.
More searching lead me to this thread, http://forums.adobe.com/thread/377601 which suggests removing all CS3 products and using the Adobe cleaner tool and then reinstalling. Unless you or anyone has a better suggestion, this might be my next step. It sounds like a pain, but less drastic than reinstalling the operating system which I'm extremely relunctant to do.
Thanks much.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 crash on startup

I am using CS3 version 9 Build 3481 on a Mac running the
current OS. It was running fine until the university changed the
location of servers, where my site is. Dreamweaver now crashes on
startup. The 1st message displayed is "An FTP error occurred-
cannot make connection to host". I have to click OKAY, and then
another dialog box appears that says, "Failed to create empty
document". Again, I have to click OKAY and then Dreamweaver shuts
down. I tried deleting the Dreamweaver folder and reinstalling, but
    the same thing occurs.
    Any advice?

After the university changed the location of servers, did you
    update the FTP
    settings in your site definition?

I am running Photoshop CS3 on iMac with OS x 10.6.8. Photoshop crashes on startup or if it does start crashes when I try to perform a task. Startup crash gives error code -600

Fantastic!  Puting the tilde on the front of the twain plug-in has sorted it.  At least it's working until I can get the drivers off.  I tried disabling the drivers, no luck, tried removing from device manager, still no luck.  Thats something I'll need to sift through the Dell forums for.
But thankfully, Photoshop now boot and works.  Thanks guys!

  • InDesign CS3 crashing on startup

    Hi
One of our plug-ins is causing InDesign CS3 5.0.3 (release version running on Windows XP) to crash on startup. This is only affecting one customer, on all their PCs, but we can't reproduce it in-house. It happened before, to the same customer and the same plug-in, a few months ago, and we 'fixed' it by reverting from the 5.0.3 SDK to the 5.0.1. However, now the problem has returned.
This isn't much to go on, but can anyone suggest what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Charles

Well, I finally fixed it. It comes down to an issue with Visual Studio: that programs built with it will not necessarily run on a target PC that doesn't have VS. You have to run a Microsoft file called vcredist.exe on the target PC, which provides it with the missing DLLs etc. We knew about that, but it turns out that when we decided to service pack VS2005, we should have downloaded a new version of Microsoft's redistributable program.
Why only this customer was affected remains a mystery. At a guess they have installed some other piece of software that included incompatible versions of some DLLs, and running Microsoft's installer fixed things as a side effect.
The crash I was getting on one of our own PCs a couple of days ago now looks like a completely different bug introduced by my diagnostic code. I'd investigate further except I'm already sick of this problem, and all I need to do is remove the diagnostics.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

  • Flash CS3 crashing at startup

Man. I've never been so disappointed in a company relating to
its technical support. First off, I just wrote a new post (few
hours ago) about a Flash problem that it crashed during startup.
I'm still having this problem. But the big issue now is that my
post isn't even listed anymore in the forum? It was there when I
posted it. Did you guys at Adobe decide to remove it for whatever
    reason?
To add to that, I've been on the phone with Adobe 3 times
today. And as I write this I've been on hold for 67 minutes. I
called the same line from another phone and it says their hours are
up. So does this mean I'm holding on their support lines because I
called prior to closing and they just left me on hold? Anyone else
    run into this issue?
Talk about disappointing. But now that I've spoken up about
that, I'll leave my post here again in case someone can help me.
And I'd sure prefer it if Adobe decided not to remove this post on
    me.
So anyone out there that can help me I would appreciate it.
But the fact that three people from Adobe have not been able to
help, it seems it might be a lost cause. I'm running Flash CS3 on a
MacBook Pro. I was running it wonderfully for a bit over a month.
Last week I clicked on the application to open it up and it crashed
on me. I haven't been able to open the application since. I've
uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and have gotten nowhere.
I've even done a Clean Uninstall as recommended by Adobe and that
    didn't work either.
    Right now I have a $700 application that I can't even load
onto my computer anymore. Please help. And sorry for the words of
    frustration above.
    Thanks

At what point during startup does it crash? I suspect a
    corrupt font...?

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes on startup in Win 7 Prof 64 bit

    Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if this particular problem has been tackled before, if it has, I apologise in advance for double posting!
I have Photoshop CS3 as part of the Master Collection that I upgraded to from the old Macromedia Studio MX.  But recently, Photoshop CS3 crashes on start-up and returns the following error: "Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working"
I am running it on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a system with the following specs:
    CPU: Intel® Core™i7 Processor Extreme Edition i7-975 (3.33GHz
    RAM: 12 GB
    Graphics Card: 2GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5970 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11
    HDD: 2x 500 GB
I tried running it under various compatibility modes, but alas, no luck - stops right at the same problem.
I've noticed that it crashes where the loading screen says 'building TWAIN Menus'.  The software has been working without a hitch righ up until i tried installing my drivers for my old Dell all in one printer/scanner.  These DID have compatibility issues, but I cant find it anywhere on my system to remove them.  Or I might;ve removed them when applying a fix to remove it.
So I guess, it's the scanner software that is doing it.  (hence I might've answered my own question).
Has anyone experienced this problem? perhaps even with thier own printer/scanners etc?  Any ideas how this might be resolved?
Any advice or help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! :-)

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Crashes At Startup

I installed the CS3 web premium suite and all the programs
worked great, including Dreamweaver. After rebooting the PC the
next morning, Dreamweaver CS3 would not launch anymore. I
reinstalled DW but still the same problem. Startup gets as far as
reading the site cache and then totally disappears. I've tried
renaming/deleting the Configuration and the registry key
    (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9), and the DW8 site
caches. The other CS3 programs work fine.
    What now?

I can open Dreamweaver now but I don't think the problem is
    solved. Here's what happened:
I took the steps in the article you referenced and some
others, re-started the pc repeatedly with all start-up programs
disabled, and waited in vain for the promised return phone call
from a seemingly diligent guy in Tech Support. When I called Tech
Support the next day, they said that the case number and customer
ID had no reference to this problem so someone would call back. OK,
    fine. I'll wait.
I did a "clean update" of ZoneAlarm, remembering that this
had solved some other problems in the past. Later yesterday, I was
cleaning up some experimental website file directories and renamed
a few of them to make more sense of what they were.
When I tried to re-open Dreamweaver later, it paused to tell
me that it could not find the directory for the site referenced in
the site definition and I should go to Manage Sites to fix it.
Since Dreamweaver had crashed repeatedly before reaching this
stage, this was a major victory. The site it was trying to open was
one that I had set up to experiment with some of the new features
in DW CS3 after the initial installation. Fortunately, it was one
that I had renamed earlier yesterday.
The offending directory contained a page with some of the new
Spry widgets (Tabbed Panel and Accordian) and a short slideshow
that I think I made using Bridge.
So, I was able to open the Manage Sites panel and point
Dreamweaver to another site definition. It opened fine and everyone
    lived happily ever after.
Unfortunately, the problem is not solved -- just worked
    around by coincidence.
Here is some info from the Windows Control Panel's Event
Viewer about the last time that DW crashed: Faulting application
    dreamweaver.exe, version 9.0.0.3481, faulting module msvcr80.dll,
    version 8.0.50727.163, fault address 0x000142f1.
Hope ths helps Adobe figure out what is causing this crash.
Now that I can open Dreamweaver CS3 and use it, I'm really
    impressed with the upgrade.

  • Bridge CS3 crashes at startup

I've had CS3 installed on my system for a few years and for one reason or another have never gotten around to using Bridge. I wanted to play around with it today but it crashes as soon as I try and start it up:

I've tried the "hold a key to reset preferences" trick and it still crashes right after that. Can anyone help ID what the problem is?
    Thanks,
    J

If you mean hold 'Any key' then there is one of your problems. You should hold down the option key while restarting Bridge and when a menu with three options appears choose refresh preferences and try again.
    BUT
first of all upgrade Bridge to version 2.1.1.9 (and PS to 10.0.1)
That probably should solve your problem :-)
If still no luck quit Bridge go to the user library preferences folder. Inhere find and delete the AdobeBridgeCS3 plist file and delete this to the trash. Restart (again with option key and refresh preferences) and try again

It's trying to load a library or plugin that is corrupt, and crashes in the OS loading code.  Whatever that corrupt binary might be, it isn't loaded yet - so we don't know what it might be.
Best to disable all plugins and see if that solves it. Then do a disk verification to make sure you don't have other corruption on your disk.

My wife decided she wanted to use Photoshop so I loaded a shortcut on her desk top and fired it up - only to watch it crash. My account has admin privileges, hers does not. So, I switched her account and all worked. I switched her back to a regular user and crash!
I can not find anywhere that Photoshop needs admin privileges to run and I prefer not set her up that way just for safe computing. Is it indeed necessary or can some finer grain of privilege be set? Or something else entirely?
BTW, the err log shows the problem coming from the ubiquitous msvcr80.dll
    Thanks in advance
    Jerry

    Hi jkharter,
The different users will have different profiles, and probably different add-ons. One of you is using Roboform and not updated it. Try updating roboform.
Please post back with how you get on, and whilst logged in mark the thread as solved, if applicable. (That helps others find it, note breakpad only searches sumo for solved threads)

Just a guess, but it sounds like the public.dll file has been corrupted. That has happened to me when using a test version of a script.
I was able to solve things by copying the file from a working system. Be sure you are using the same version and build.

  • Bridge CS3  Crash on startup!!!

    Intel iMac - OSX 10.5.2 CS3
Opening Bridge CS3 (2.1.1.9) causes failure:
"Das Objekt konnte nicht angezeigt werden.
Möglicherweise wurde es verschoben oder umbenannt."
    Prefs deleted - no reaction
Logged in as another user - the APP runs!
    Thanks for your your ideas!

Try to delete the Bridge 'plist' file manually from the user library preferences folder.
    and/or
Run disk utility to check your permissions
If still not working change to a new user. ( but if it is not solved with system maintenance there is something very bad going on or to be happen in the near future and you better use the Archive and Install option for a fresh OSX system...)

  • InDesign cs3 crashes on startup

THis program has started to fail as well as Acrobat CS3.
    THis started suddenly.
Anybody have an idea what could be causing this?

    Hi Peter:
I am also having the same problem, worked one minute and not the next. On the splash screen it stops at initializing plug ins. I am running V 5.0.4 and the exception code it produces on the MS error report is 0xc0000005. I am running Win XP SP 3. Any help would be appreciated. I tried to send you the text file of the error report but I cannot seem to find it on the hard drive where they say it will be, let me know if you need any further information.

  • Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?

Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?
    Hi all!
I just today installed CS 3 Web Premium on my G5 (Dual 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.9, all updates installed). The install seems to succeed, and I've activated the suite, and all the other applications launch without a problem. But Photoshop doesn't. It shows the splash screen and gets as far as "Initializing Suites" when it drops off the face of the earth, and I'm prompted to send a crash report to Adobe (done).
I've tried restarting the Mac, re-installing just Photoshop, and even creating a new Admin user and trying it there, but Photoshop still crashes in the same place. So it's apparently nothing in my user account or just a randomly mucked-up install.
I did a search here for "initializing suites" but nothing came up, and even Google found just one other report of a CS3 crash at exactly that point, so a) it's not common, but b) it's nevertheless not just me. Hmm.
Has anybody seen this? I'm funkified...
    Pres

    Ramón is exaggerating.
First: find the uninstaller in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and TRY to run it even though you already deleted the application.
If it won't DO anything, go to Macinosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Preferences and delete the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings folder (and its content) PLUS the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Paths file in same location, PLUS the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file in same location.
    Then try to reinstall again.
If that doesn't work, run the cs3 clean again. Note that it is a script and that it asks you questions that you have to answer to and type in replies to for it to do anything. I fyou donät interact with it it won't do a thing. Note that it might clean out more adobe files than you would wish for.
    There are instructions here
for how to unisntall the public beta of Photoshop CS3 but you might be able to follow those also for a non-beta. There are no instructions for manually removing Photoshop CS3 at the support center as far as I can see (on the other hand it is next to impossible to find anything on the support pages by doing a search.. search for Photoshop CS 3 for Mac and get articles about Illlustrator or CS...).
