CS3 crashes frequently on Intel Imac running 10.4.11

Since upgrading to 10.4.11 Cs3 crashes frequently on saving files though not every time. It also quits on feathering selections and various other tasks. I have 2 GB RAM - 667 MHz DDR2 5DRAM, it is an IMAC 6,1 with intel core 2 Duo. 381 GB free Disk Space. We have two machines with the problem. We have "trashed" preferences, uninstalled and re-installed the program, run utilities on the Hardware. The problem persists.
Has anyone else encountered this "challenge"? Am terribly frustrated. Don't have the problem on the G5 at home running 10.4.11.

Ann,
I did do the combo upgrade (which I first learned to do a couple years ago, reading about its advisabilty from you on this forum)
Last evening, I had another KP, this time did not have anything open but Firefox. Called Apple Care, sent them the new (and very short console log, as well as resend the long one from 2 days ago prior to A&I )
He had me download rember, which tests the memory.. the shorter version we ran last night together, said no probs but it took 45 minutes ,( he felt that was long- he ran it on his mac mini, and it took a few minutes.)
I ran the Apple Hardware Test from my software disk, and it says there's no problem ( ran both the short and long versions)
On the possibility that its* not* CS2 related, he asks me to run it as long as I can using ethernet cable rather than Airport (this is a hassle- I need to find a long enough cable, as I can't spend hours in the room where the router is--( its in my husband's studio) I'm going to see if I can borrow a long enough cable) and see if I get a KP using the Ethernet cable.
He wonders if there's a hardware prob thats not showing up? ( I did get it tested at the shop where I bought it, in Jan, prior to doing the clean install - they said the hardware was fine)
sorry if I'm hijacking this CS3 discussion, thanks.

Contact Apple (call AppleCare) and for a nominal fee the discs will be replaced.  You can do that or purchase Snow Leopard (still availble from Apple for $20) and do an erase and install of OS X making the machine like a new machine.

It would depend on how old your IMac is, how mush memory you have, it it can be upgraded by OWC, etc. I have a 2006 Macbook Pro and would NOT put Mavericks on it or espeacially FCP 10.1.1 on it because the most memory it can have is 4 GB. You need at least 8 GB to work with Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. IMHO.
I would try to find a copy of Final Cut Express perhaps.
      Does this answer your question?

  • Can an intel iMac run OSX Tiger from an external hard drive?

Hi can anyone please tell me if it is possible to run OSX Tiger from an external hard drive on an Intel iMac running OSX 10.5 Leopard or later?
Or is it possible to partition the intel iMac's hard drive and add Tiger?
At the moment I am running Tiger on a partitioned hard drive shared with OSX Leopard and wish to upgrade to an intel Mac. I need tiger to run some software not compatible with newer Macs and also to access OS9 Classic. Thanx for your help.

IF you upgraded from Panther as you know you do not have an Intel based iMac. I beleive the limit of your upgrades on your current machine is going to be Leopard. The system requirements for Snow Leopard are:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply
This is straight from Apple so yes if you want to go beyond Leopard then you must purchase a new machine. My suggestion would be to begin replacing your legacy apps, you are extremely far behind and the longer you wait the more painful it will be to get current.
    Good luck.

  • Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

If the Snow Leopard install disk came with or otherwise is compatible with your iMac, you can boot from it, but that won't allow you to run software (other than the utilities that are part of the installation set). You will have to install Snow Leopard, either on a partition on the iMac's internal hard drive or on an external drive, before you will be able to run applications.
    Regards.

  • 2 GHz Intel iMac Running CS3

My iMac has 1 GB memory. I just got Creative Suite Premium for school. Will 1 GB be enough to handle the program? I've been thinking of getting more memory but I am no computer wiz. Is RAM and memory the same thing? If I did get more memory, how do you install it? Do I need someone to do it for me? How much would I need? Where to get it? Too many questions, sorry!

    Hello Rae
I would say "Yes" you should upgrade your ram, my system uses well over 1GB for the OS X, Safari and another large application like iTunes or iPhoto!
The first thing you need to find out is exactly which model Intel iMac you have!
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1463?viewlocale=en_US
This is especially important, there were two 17" late 2006 Core 2 Duo's and the 17-inch (MA710LL) with the Intel GMA 950 graphics processor only supports a max of 2GB of matching ram. While the later (MA590LL) 2.0GHz supports 3GB and can take a 4GB kit of matching ram.
    http://support.apple.com/specs/imac/iMacLate2006.html
Once you have sorted out which model, and how much ram it supports, then check out the installing instructions below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1432?viewlocale=en_US
The recommend on-line ram suppliers here in the forum are Crucial, OWC and MemoryStore.com:
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/index.aspx
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/
    http://www.memorystore.com/config_system.asp?cboMFG=26
I know there's a lot of info above, but it's really pretty straight forward! I hope you will take the time to study it, you can save a-lot of money upgrading the ram yourself!

  • Non universal programs suddenly crash on my Intel iMac

I have been running Leopard on my Intel iMac for quite a while and suddenly all non universal programs now won't open.
All were fine yesterday but now they only generate the crash report.
    All suggestions gratefully received.

Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If so, install (if your profile info is correct and you're running 10.5.0) or reinstall the 10.5.2 COMBO update, repair permissions, and see if that fixes things. If not, then something's corrupt or conflicting in the original account. Report back.

  • Intel iMac running boot camp success

I am looking at replacing my HS PC Lab and I am debating if I want to replace the labe with 17" iMac Intel machines and running boot camp on the iMac to get to my windows applications. Is there anybody out there that has purchased the Intel iMacs and run boot camp for windows applcations for the entire school day? If so, what is your success rate? Are you running Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, or Windows Vista? I have heard of schools doing this for 1 hour a day and are happy with it.

Hi there.... my 5 cent is:
I use OSX for as much as possible.
I use bootcamp with Windows XP for gaming, and get "native" PC speed. With the present version of Bootcamp I have had no issues at all. The iMac just works as a PC (but looks so MUCH better)..
I use Parallels desktop with Windows XP for all other "non gaming" windows applications with only a small impact on speed. All other for me however means only a piece of GPS software for my PocketPC - not available in OSX version....
If you want style and versatility - go for the Mac

  • Can the new intel iMacs run Classic?

Hi just wondering if anyone knows if you can run Classic on intel
Intel iMac 17" 1 Gig of Ram 1.83 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The inability to (easily?) run Classic was a big and unexpected issue for me, when I upgraded from my PowerPC 7500 running OS 8.6 to an Intel iMac. Frustratingly, the iMac had lots of software and lots of Help suggestions about how to migrate from OS 8 or 9 to OS 10... but none of it was useful on an Intel machine.
After a fair amount of work and some third-party shareware, got it all to work. Moving (exporting then importing) Quicken records was the most difficult task. The most persistent problem is the absence of extension or type/creator information on the files I've moved, which renders them invisible to Spotlight.

  • Ichat 3.1.6 keeps crashing on new intel iMac

I never had problems with ichat on my old eMac. However, since I have made a switch to a new intel iMac, ichat keeps crashing in the middle of video conversations. What's more, Safari and Mail also stop working then. The only remedy is to restart the iMac, but these crashes keep coming again from time to time.
    Can somebody help?
    Regards
    Helmut

You bought a new Mac and you can't use it because Safari crashes! Wow, such progress!
I thought Mountain Lion would use Safari 6 not version 5.
You should not have this problem with a new machine. Contact the store and ask them to install Safari 6 for you even if that means the inconvienience of having to take it back to the (real) store.

  • Can an Intel IMac running Tiger Upgrade Directly to Snow Leopard?

This may be a dumb question, but I have an Intel Imac that I've never upgraded the OS on. My fiance has a new version, and we just installed Ilife '09 on hers, but my OS isn't new enough to install it on mine. Is Snow Leopard even an option for me?

Is Snow Leopard even an option for me?
Yes, if the computer meets the system requirements. Use the Mac Box Set.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Crashing Frequently -

    Hi Everyone
PP is starting to crash every 5 minutes and it is giving us major headaches.
When we first started using CS3 it was fine but after using it a while it started crashing, we save frequently to avoid losing work but now it crashes more frequently and takes times to load. It is making it very hard to complete the project as we are wasting too much time because of the crashes.
    Information:
We are putting together 8 x 30 min and one 2 hour (sports shows). We are using 26 hours of DV footage in SD. Project settings PAL DV.
    Technical hardware:
    Intel Dual Core 2 gz
    Ram 3gb
Nvidia 256 graphics card with latest drivers.
Vista 32 bit with latest updates
Premeire Pro CS3 with all latest updates.
All Project files are stored on a external hard drive. Project file is now 30 mb.
Premiere Pro doesn't give us any error message when it crashes. Just starts going slow, then doesn't respond, then a few seconds later ' Premiere Pro has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows is looking for a solution'. it then just hangs for a few mintues then closes down with no further information. Windows doesn't come up with a solution either. All other software on the computer is stable.
This doesn't occur on a particular sequence, or when we are using footage from a particular tape etc (as far as we can see). Just seems to be quite random. We can't render or export a sequence because Premiere crashes during the process. As you can imagine on a project this big we are using many nested sequences.
We have tried renaming the project which didn't work but want to try some other suggestions.
I am not sure what information would be useful to help identify this problem. If you need any further information please let us know.
We would appreciate any help or suggestions you can give us.
    Regards, Carl

    Dear everyone,
We are having just the same problem for past month:
    - we tried almost everything: tried premier pro 1.5, and CS3.
    - we reinstalled windowsXP for about 10 times, so now we are using absolutely clean system that is installed on new hard drive (there's only windows on it, premier and necessary drivers )
    - we are using fast computer
    - we were working with uncompressed video and now we trasnformed it into DV,
Still, nothing really hepled us and it crashes all the time.
anyway, if anybody knows any solutions to frequent crashes of premier pro (1.5 or CS3), please help!
project size now about 260 mb
    computer:
    motherboard - asus P5B,
    RAM - corsar ddr2 - 4 GB
    processor - core 2 duo 6600 (2*2.4)
video editing card - deckLink extreme
2 raids (each about 2 TB)
Now, even autosave stopped working at all, and pretty often when trying to save the project premier crashes.
Does anyone know how to decrease the size of the project? but we can't break it apart at the moment because we are need occasionally all the sequences that are in the project now...
We would be thankful for any help...
    Dusan
