CS3 deactivation

hello,
i own cs3 design premium and got a new macbook pro just recently. now, i reinstalled the cs3 bundle on the new machine and want to deactivate the software on my old powerbook before removing the software there, because i've read that this is the proper way to do it.
only, there seems to be no way to deactivate my cs3 installation on the old machine - there's no "deactivate"-option in my "help"-menu in either cs3 application, as i guess there should be. in acrobat there is an "activate/deactivate" option in the help menu but it's all greyed out... maybe that's because my design premium bundle came with a volume license serial number? i also didn't have to activate it.
i just would like to know if it's alright then to just delete the software from the old machine without wasting a license...
thanks,
philipp

Mr. Brunner,
Yes, it is ok to delete the software from the old machine. Volume license distributions of Adobe software currently do not enforce activation/de-activation. Thank you for your voluntary concern and support!
Respectfully,
-Marcel

  • Adobe CS3 deactivation limits

I am quoting a very interesting article from Macfixit. May be of use to quite a few CS3 users
    Adobe CS3 deactivation limits
Adobe's Creative Suite 3 imposes a limit of 20 deactivations per license. This is causing problems for users of cloned backups. MacFixIt reader Dee Dee Martin writes:
"I always try to remember to deactivate Adobe CS3 before cloning a backup, but yesterday (along with numerous other times) I forgot so I booted up from my clone, ran Photoshop and tried to deactivate. I got a big dialog box saying "Deactivation Failed" error code 194:14, call Adobe tech support.
"I was told there is a limit (21 times) that I could deactivate CS3 and I had reached that limit. Adobe made a 'one time exception' and restored my activation count (yes Adobe tracks this stuff), but I would have to completely erase CS3 (using level 3 of their CS3Clean script) obliterating all prefs, settings, tools, printer profiles etc."
There doesn't seem to be a workable solution for this issue at present.

Actually I did use the phone number on the program's notice screen. The auto system of coarse would not work as I had 2 activations going on the software. (One of which was on the old hard drive from broken system. So, there was no way to de-activate that instance without hours of fun with hardware.)
My "error" was not realizing that the installed CS3 products are essentially tied the the hard drive on which they are installed. Actually a combination of the hard drive and motherboard, etc.
I had cloned the old hard drive's partitions to my new hard drive. All attached to the new motherboard. So it was all effectively the same OS system. Even the XP system did not require reactivation. (Though this was probably because about 2 weeks earlier XP had prompted for reactivation when I moved my boot hard drive to IDE channel 2 as IDE channel 1 had failed on the old motherboard.)
I suppose I could have dug the case out from under my desk. Detached the new hard drive, re-attach the old drive and booted. Then spend an hour loading drivers and updates to XP in order to connect to the internet and deactivate Photoshop and Illustrator on the old hard drive. Turns out that might have been faster than my call to Adobe turned out to be.
Of coarse this fun all started over the weekend when I had time to do the hardware changes. I had effectively been nursing the half dead motherboard for 2 weeks before I had a free weekend to do the hardware swap in the first place. Hadn't occurred to me that the CS3 installs would need reactivation as it was the same OS license and installation just moved to new hard drive and motherboard, or I would would have deactivated first.
Adobe's activation screen/notice required action within 6 or 7 days, not 30. I of coarse could have just fired up my laptop and de-activated it. But, then I would still have an instance that could not be de-activated from my end. Adobe had to do the de-activation on their end.
My thoughts on a better activation system. Tie it to the OS instance, not to hardware. Does that mean a savvy user could bypass. Sure. But, users of pirated software are bypassing already with less trouble.
Activation limits: they violate the basic Adobe user license agreement. The way that agreement reads, there should be no reason a user could not swap their second installed instance between a home computer and laptop multiple times a week.
Such a scenario is not that far fetched. An independent graphic artist could easily have an office, and home computer. But, occasionally need to work on the road with a laptop. Should he have to have 2 licenses to switch between his occasional use of his home computer and laptop? Adobe's activation limits say yes, although the the license effectively says no, one license covers that usage. Section 2.4 of license does not say "personal use" it says "exclusive use".
    From Photoshop CS3 license:
"2.4 Portable or Home Computer Use. Subject to the important restrictions set forth in Section 2.5 below, the primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed (“Primary User”) may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer. You may be required to contact Adobe in order to make a second copy."
Frankly I have done just that over the years with earlier versions (AI8, PS 6). Had a primary workstation at the office. Had one at home that I used occasionally for business "midnight calls" and for practice/trying new features, etc. But, also as the same primary user I had the software on a laptop so that I could work remotely on my occasional road trips, vacations, etc. There was never anyone using the software other than myself. But, it was on all 3 computers.
I don't see where that violates the words or spirit of section 2.4 of the license agreement (CS3).
Earlier license for Photoshop 6, effectively stated the same:
"2.4. Home Use. You, as the primary user of the computer on which the Software is installed, may also install the Software on one of your home computers. However, the Software may not be used on your home computer at the same time the Software on the primary computer is being used."
    Not using concurrently is understood.
    Enough said for now.

  • Adobe CS3 deactivation, computers re-installed without CS3 deactivation, how to reset licence key?

Need help, we have CS3 Design standard licences, that have not deactivated just reinstalled computers and now I'm unable to active CS3. The maximum number of activations allowed for this copy of Adobe Design Suite standard CS3 has been reached. How can I deactivate or re-use my licences? Where I need to contact, I don't want to call, wait many hours on the phone by lottery of support competence.

  • Getting Photoshop CS3 deactivated to re-install

We've had Photoshop CS3 running on two machines successfully for several years, one of the PCs was updated to Windows 7 yesterday but we couldn't find a 'Deactivation' option either. Support today claim the serial number is not valid and will do nothing further to assist us without proof of purchase which to no avail we can not find, the member of staff who made the purchase no longer works for us so we're not even 100% where we purchased it from but as far as I can tell from the packaging it's a Genuine Retail version which we had no problems installing when first done or in a subsequent install following a previous machine upgrade.
Unable to find the invoice I was looking into the monthly Photoshop CC  subscription and noticed the two prices for existing customers and new and to my suprise when I enter our serial number to verify as an existing customer up pops 'Congratulations, your eligible' or words to that effect. So how can customer support claim the serial is invalid if its eligible as an existing customer?

If you really need that deactivation. Insert your DVD-rom and you should have a repair option. Repair it and the Deactivate should be visible. I've tried that on Acrobat Pro when "deactivate" was dimmed out, it should also work on Photoshop'
Uninstall/reinstall from Software and Programs in the Control Panel should do the same thing on your old setup if you do not see repair.
I'm not sure since it's been awhile, but the uninstall from the Control Panel might have a repair choice.

  • CS3 deactivation missing

How can I move CS3 Design Standard license to another computer? There should be choice for deactivation in the help menu but it is missing.

    Paul McNicol wrote:
I have left it on line for four hours this morning, and the deactivation option is still not visible. The Help menu still looks exactly the same as in my first post. I've attached a screenprint to this post, in case it jogs anyone's memory of something.
A possibly-relevant point is that the PC I am trying to do this on is NOT actually the selfsame PC where the licence was originally installed - it is another of the same make and model, on which I have installed a Ghost image of the original one. The original one was recycled to another user (without the Photoshop software) and I don't know where it is now. Does this licencing function check the MAC address or the Hard Drive or mobo ID or anything like that? The software is fully operational on this ghosted PC so it has not "noticed" anything wrong as far as I can tell.
Do I need to try and hunt down the actual original hardware?
Now you've changed the whole scenario.
Yes, the activation is tied to the hard drive where the software was installed!
Interesting that the ghosted version thinks it's legal!
BTW, it's better to post JPG screen shots via the little camera icon in the message box.

  • CS3 Deactivation and Activation on new computer

I just got a new computer and want to add my Photoshop CS3 to the computer. When I try to activate, it tells me I have too many activations. I had it installed on two computers (as there are two activations allowed) so I tried the following
I tried to deactivate CS3 on my old computer but the option to "deactivate" is not under the help menu.
I tried uninstalling CS3 on the other computer that Photoshop was installed on
I tried the chat feature through Customer care and they told me my serial number was invalidMy computer was replaced under warranty last November (2013) and I re-installed CS3 with the same serial number I provided to the chat support and had no problems so I know it's a valid serial number
The individual on chat told me: "you need to have the invoice receipt of the software so that we can check and provide you a new CS3 serial number for the software."
The software was purchased on ebay in 2009 so I do not have an "invoice receipt"
I had no reason to request an invoice receipt in 2009 as I have had no problems with the program or installing/re-installing the program on new computers... until now...
Can anyone help me get CS3 working on my new computer?

This is a forum where users like yourself help troubleshoot problems and give advice on how to do something in the program. We have no authority on activation nor can we hand out serial numbers. In short, we are not Adobe employees.
Buying Photoshop off Ebay is one big red flag. Chances are you purchased one where the same serial number was passed around until Adobe cancelled it. You did not register it with Adobe when you first bought it, so they don't know who you are. No receipt, no proof that you owned it. You can look into your Ebay account and see if there is a record of the sale in your history. Then you can email the seller for a receipt.
That's the best i can recommend,

Broadcasting your serial number to the entire internet probably isn't going to help things in the activation department.

  • Deactivate Dreamweaver CS3 after uninstalling?

Hope someone can help me out here...
Basically, back in the day, I had Dreamweaver MX, and upgraded to CS3 when it came out.
I've recently invested in Web Premium CS5, but discovered I cannot use ADDT in CS5, so I need to fire up CS3 again to do so.
However, I've run into a problem in that I can't activate on my new iMac, as there are no activations left.
I've tried reinstalling it on my old MBP just to deactivate and then uninstall it, but run into an issue in that it wants me to insert a Photoshop Elements disc, which I don't have.
I even managed to find my old MX disc to try reinstalling that, to see if that would get rid of the PE6 request, but the disc is so old it no longer works.
Any suggestions as to how I can get CS3 deactivated on my old MPB to activate it on my new machine?
Very frustrating, as I just need it for a very few features of ADDT that work very well in my workflows.
    Thanks.

Thanks Murray - do you know how it works - would I just give them my CS3 serial and they can do something at their end that'll allow me to activate it again?

  • CS3/CS4 Creative Suites Web Premium installation conflicts

Scenario: I installed Creative Suite CS4 Web Premium using Windows XP Pro with SP3 and all the required computer specifications while I still had Creative Suite CS3 Web Premium on the computer. All went well for a while and then Flash CS3 started acting up by not being able to close the program without using Task Manager. I decided to uninstall Flash CS3 (deactivated it first) and tried reinstalling it.
Problem: I haven't been able to reinstall it. It seems that CS3 and CS4 use the same Shared Components and when the reinstall is completed, the install report shows that Flash CS3 was not installed as well as several Shared Components of CS4. During the reinstall of Flash CS3, the install occasionally asks for the CS4 disk, so I remove the CS3 disk from my primary DVD drive, insert the CS4 disk, click OK and then it asks for the CS3 disk again (ok, that's fine). At the end of the reinstall, the install report says the the shared components failed because the reinstall was looking for the CS4 shared components on my secondary DVD drive. So I then put the CS3 disk again in my primary DVD drive and put the CS4 disk in my secondary DVD drive and tried the reinstall again. It failed again and the report now says its looking for the CS4 shared components in my primary DVD drive.
Does anyone know what is going on here? Thank you for any help you may be able to supply.
You might ask why I don't just move completely to CS4 and the reason is that I'm trying to finish a project started in CS3. I could move completely to CS4, but I should be able to have both programs on my computer. At least, I would think so.

  • System Recovery...Need to Deactivate CS3???

Before I perform a system recovery (clean back to factory settings) do I need to perform Adobe CS3 Deactivation in order to install on the same computer, once recovery is complete? Thanks ahead of time!! ~Kate

    Yes!
My HDD was recently badly infected by the Win32 Vitro trojan, and to ensure it was wholly eradicated, the HDD was destroyed.
But Creative Suite was not deactived, and I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone giving my Adobe Customer ID, Licence Number, Activation Code and an explanation before I got the Authorisation code.
So de-activate if you can, and it will be a whole lot easier.
(And thank you Adobe for a free trans-Atlantic call at midnight GMT.)

  • Recently I purchased CS4 Web Design can I deactivated my old Photo. CS4 and Illust. CS3 to sell/gift

I have a full version of CS4 Web Design Premium, now my old Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator CS3 are redundant.  Can I either sell these or give as a gift to my girlfriend's nephew - they have been deactivated and removed from my computer (macbook pro).
Thanks for your insight and help!

You may sell or otherwise transfer the individual Photoshop and Illustrator products unless (1) one or the other was used as the basis to do an upgrade to the suite itself or (2) those products were student or academic versions or part of a bulk commercial license.
Make sure you transfer registration of the software using the forms available from Adobe's website.

  • Deactivating Photoshop CS3

I have just got a new laptop and want to install Photoshop CS3 on it, however it wont letme Activate the product until the copy I have on my old machine is deactivated. The problem is I cant deactivate the old copy as the Deactivate optionis not visible in the help menu, where it should be.
Can someone please tell me how I'm meant to deactivate my old copy?
    Thanks in advance
    David

This activate deactivate crap is making me hate Adobe. I can't use the $800 in software I bought at work because I can't deactivate my old work computer and put it on my new work computer. I use web standard and PS CS3 both at work and at home. 1 install of each piece of software in 2 different locations, home and work, just as the license says I can. I upgraded my home comp's drive to an SATA so I deact and react just as normal. Worked fine. Got a new computer at work, tried deactivating both pieces of software and it won't let me. So now my new work comp can't run the software I shelled out $800 for because I can't get it deactivated on my old work comp.
With the amount of computer changes and drive upgrades I do in a single year it makes it impossible to use their software anymore. Even when I follow the process by the book. I can't deactivate my old work comp for some reason so now I'm screwed. What happens when I upgrade my home comp this summer? Now I won't be able to use either pieces of software at all.
Way to go Adobe. Great way to alienate your customers who have been paying for your software since day one!!
