CS3 DW crashes at start

Question

While doing a Vista compatibility check on DW CS3 using MS
Compatibility
Tool; DW now crashes at startup. Initially DW would seem to
start and
would show up in Task Manager as running; but would not be
running. I
shut DW down from the TM and then restarted DW while watching
TM. Both
DM and a service DkService.exe started simultaneously and
stopped when
DW now longer showed CPU usage.
I did a reinstall/repair from the CD; but, now when I
attempted to start
DW I received two error messages:
1. App Error: The app failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000142).
Terminate, OK. I terminated.
2. Next I got two (2) "Critical Stop" sounds and a MS Visual
C++ Runtime
Library: Runtime Error Program <path to DW.exe>. This
app has requested
the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this all
O.K.? :-}

What version of Windows and what are the other machine specs?
