CS3: Everything's pixelating upon zooming in.
I'm making my own Christmas cards. I started last Wednesday, and Photoshop worked perfectly fine. Now, anytime I zoom in I get a mass of pixelation on the image. It's happening to the brushes too. I tried another document, same thing happens. I updated Photoshop and my video card drivers, still nothing.
Quick edit: For some reason, this keeps zooming in with intervals of 100. This is the only image that does it.
Here's what's happening:
100%
200%:
300%:
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
I think what they may be talking about is this.
Or this just could be me, when you zoom in tight to get to into doing fine details I see this.
Normal
Pixilated
Mine actually looks to be an Open GL issue. if i turn off open GL support in prefrences the anomaly goes away and i can zoom to pixel level with out the pixel separations as seen in image 2.

All creative suite (cs3) programs quit unexpectedly upon startup
Hey there,
Been having some issues with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Indesign and Illustrator. Whenever I open I immedietly get the error message 'Photoshop quit unexpectedly'. I have tried repairing my permissions, no updates have been installed, everything has been working fine for nearly three years! The only difference is that I recently had my laptop sent to me from the UK to Australia as I have moved out here, so it sat unused for about two months. Do I need permissions for a different country or is it something else?

I am new to using Fireworks, but I thought it would be great since it has both vector and bitmap support. However, when I work with vector tools and a vector image I imported from Illustrator, if I zoom into the image, it appears as though it's a bitmap. Also, if I were to resize the image down 25% and then bring it back up to a size similar to what it was at, it will look distorted and the quality will have changed? Why is this? I do this in Illustrator with no such results. I thought vectors should be able to be resized up, down, or up and down and they should look relatively the same. Any ideas, what is going on?
I have screenshots of this happening which I posted on a different forum. But if you want to see the screen shots, go here.

PLEASE HELP. Thanks in advance! I would really like to use fireworks, but with this issue I might have to use illustrator and ditch fireworks all together.
JoshI realized Sitepoint wont let you see the screenshots without logging in (stupid)
Here is my graphic in illustrator:
Here is the graphic imported into Fireworks and you can see how bad it looks when I resize it.
You see how the starting image looks VERY different from the image after the resize. why?!?!?!?!?!??!? -
How do I get sharp pixels when zooming into an image?
Motion does a great job of smoothing imported images, but for my current project, I want sharp edges on the images pixels rather than blurred-together colors. I need to zoom way into an image and show a sharp mosaic of image pixel squares. Is there any way to accomplish this?
1) Motion shouldn't be blurring your imported images at all - if you scale them large enough (easiest in the Inspector), you should be able to see the individual pixel blocks of color.
2) You could always use the Pixelate filter (pretty sure it's there, I'm away from Motion right now) -
Problems using Photoshop CS3 to calculate pixel areas
Is there a known problem with CS3 Photoshop when using it to calculate how many pixels are contained within selected areas when they are complex shapes? I am trying to do some calculations and for simple areas it is very good but for other areas it comes up with blatantly incorrect values. For example if you create a matrix of tangent circles within a rectangle and start looking at the areas of the circles and the intervening spaces between the circles and or between the circles and the enclosing rectangle surrounding the edges of the outermost circles, and then start to use the "Histogram" window/panel (I'm using Mac version of CS3 Photoshop) the number of pixels is way off sometimes. I've notice that there is sometimes a warning icon in the Histogram panel that says "Click for Histogram with uncached data" and when that is done then beleivable numbers are shown.
So why would the "cached" data be so far off when doing these sorts of calculations??
Thanks for any suggestion on how to accurately compute areas this way.
-Bob
ps - I tried to post a version of the file but it's over the 2MB limit - if you want to see the exact file I'm playing with let me know and will be happy to send a copy so you can see what I'm talking about.Paolo,
What does "representative sample" really mean?
The funny thing is that for some areas (circles for example) the number in the Histogram was very accurate, but complex shapes were horriblly inaccurate (off by about a factor of 4-5). The complex areas involved combinations of other smaller circular areas, so have trouble understanding why these areas would be so far off compared to circles. None of the areas in question were rectangular, but some sides of the regions did have one or two straight edges along with the circular other edges.
Anyway, glad to read that it's a known issue and there is a way around the problem to get at an accurate number.
Thanks for the suggestion - will keep that in mind for next time I do this.

How do I change settings in Adobe Fireworks CS3 to display mm and not pixels?
I am trying to get image the exact size to paper size.Images are rectangular blocks of data...how wide by how tall, and what color in each. Kind of like a spreadsheet, only...all you see is the color data.
The dpi or ppi (dots per inch or pixels per inch) is only important when you go to print an image, and even then, it depends on the output device and the use. When you print, you can stretch or shrink any image into any physical dimension. What you want to do is create an image that prints acceptably well at the size you want on the output device in question.
The basic formula is size (in inches) * dpi = pixels.
There are other factors to consider, however. For a high-resolution printer, you generally don't need to use the printer's dpi to produce an acceptable image. For instance, if you have a 2400 dpi printer, you could probably create an image using 600 dpi in your calculation and be happy. If the print is meant to be viewed at a distance, then you can use a lower dpi in your calculation than you might if you are producing something to be held in the hand and read. For example, a banner to be hung high in a large room, could probably be produced at 200 or even 100 dpi.
Summary. Image data is based on pixels and color information. It only touches physical dimensions when you output; you must incorporate the specifications of the intended output device and you should also consider how the piece will be viewed. Let go of the concept of a graphic file being a certain physical size. It isn't. -
I looking to get a new camera and was wondering which is more important to look for:
more mega pixels or more Wide-Angle Optical Zoom.
(don't get me wrong I would look for something that has more mega pixels than a phone does)
I've seen some cameras that have 12mega pixels and 50 zoom. Canon.
then some that have 16mega pixels and only 6-10 zoom. Canon and Nikon.
Any suggestions I which one I should value more?Good question....
Some thoughts....
Yes with the Nikon D800. Macro lenses and zoom lenses are nearly redundant as you can basically crop in and still have excellent resolution. Have a look at this image where a photographer found his reflection in the bird's eye...
http://petapixel.com/assets/uploads/2012/03/example_mini.jpg
with a DSLR you have the best of both worlds. Match the resolution and DSLR sensor size to an appropriate zoom lens you need. Do you want more zoom or a lens that smaller.
want something better with low light, consider a prime or a f/2.8 zoom lens
Zoom is great, but too much zoom creations pincushion and barrel distortion
how wide do you want? Most kit lenses are limited to 18mm. However, I recently discovered Nikon's 10-24mm. It's Rectilinear to help straighten out curves. Great for indoor pictures.
Back to your original question. I crave for both....
I want megapixels for sharpness. However some cameras (especially camera phones) need a flash to capture a sharp images.
I am tired of fixed lenses (primes). My fav lens is the Nikon 18-300mm. This lens does both wide angle and telephone. Takes up less space than two lenses in my camera bag.

JS/PS CS3: identify single pixels sticking out
In a bitmap, is it possible to identify single pixels sticking out from a shape? Let's say I have this black shape in a black-and-white bitmap:
xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx
x
an 8 by 4 rectangle with one pixel sticking out from the bottom. Question is, can I find such pixels using a script (JS) and make it white?
Thanks,
PeterPeter, I added the work around to the script. It appears to fix the problem. With my basic test files.

Titles look GREAT in FCP; lousy and pixellated upon Export
I've read a couple of threads that seem to be related...I don't believe that type size is my issue...my smallest size is 16 pixels. the video is 720 x 480 ntsc.
but my titles, set in Andale Mono, look perfectly crisp and well-rendered in FCP. I have rendered all clips and transitions.
I'm stumped. Any thoughts?
thank you!
rThe problem is not in your type (although 16 point is too small for TV).
If you open one of you quicktime movies in Quicktime Player and go to menu Window>Show Movie Inspector, you will see that your 720X480 movie is not being displayed in 720X480, it is crunched into 655 X 480 or something like that.
Hence the distorted image which is most easily seen in graphics.
Why quicktime does this I don't know for sure but I think it has something to so with the square/round pixel thing.
If you take one of you exported movies and import it back to FCP you will see the graphics look fine.
To deliver the movie in quicktime (for what ever reason you have), and make it look good, you should go through Compressor.
Hope this helps. -
Mesh line artifact movement upon zooming in and zooming out of composition
I'm having a problem with my puppet tool in my After Effects composition–I'm getting this strange mesh line artifact. The layers have been imported from an Illustrator file. The boy has six puppet pin points. Hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck and head. The actual animation of the puppet looks great, however, the problem arises with the zooming in and zooming out and panning over. I'm zooming in and panning over to the boy with a camera layer and null object layer before the puppet animation and then zooming out and panning away from the boy when it is over, and it's as if the mesh outline is following my null object layer during the pan and zoom... The boy is not on a pre-comp, and I tried to put in pre-comp to see if it made a difference but it does not. I also tried expanding the mesh but it doesn't work either. Any suggestions?
I'm having a similar problem. I have an illustrator file that I have a position and rotation change (to have the hand fly in), then the puppet tool mesh to have the pointer finger move to dial the numbers on the phone. I have tried non-pre-comped and pre-comped. Both produce the same results. In the first picture you can see that the mesh doesn't change position/rotation with the pre-comp. They seem to stay where I originally placed them. And where the hand flies in and moves over the mesh, that artifact is generated. I have tried expanding the mesh and making the pre-comp layer 3d.
It's rather frustrating, and I haven't found anybody solving this problem out here on the interwebs.
***OK OK. The only way I figured out to fix this was to make the illustrated hand the exact size I need it in Illustrator. Then I just don't make the layer "continuously rasterized". -
My Photoshop CS3 stops working immediately upon loading
A pop up appears saying it has encountered a problem to stop it working correctly. I've tried to reload the software to repair it, which I'm told has been successful, but when I try to load CS3 again the problem is still there. Please can anyone advise? I've been successfully using CS3 for years and have never encountered this before.

CS5 crashes upon zooming image
Whenever I try to zoom in on an image my monitors go blank and Photoshop freezes. I've checked and updated my video driver. Still happens! I'm running Windows 7, 32bit. My video card is a GeForce 7800GTX 512mb.
Antone having this problem? If I run Photoshop CS4 this problem doesn't happen.Never mind! I turned off OpenGL and it seems to work fine.My video card must be lacking for CS5 even though it's only a couple years old.

I recently just got a new computer and moved my photoshop Cs6 over from my old computer onto the new one and have been having issues ever since. The whole interface and all the text appears blurry and pixelated. In additon, whenever I bring a perfeclty clear image into photoshop it automatically appears very blurry and pixelated. I tried messing around with the window and view settings and nothing seems to work! Any advice would be much appreciated!
I was wondering if the issue was just with Photoshop, or life as a whole.
It is unusual to hear of such global display problems that only occur in Photoshop. Is that the case BTW?
Have a look at your Preferences > Performace tab.
What are Cache levels set to? (they need to be more than 1)
Are you able to check Use GPU acceleration?
As well as the System Info you have been advised to upload, a screen grab of your entire user interface would be helpful. Don't downsize it before uploading. -
Hello,
I've been seeing for a while some intermittent, but very prominent pixelation occuring on seemingly random clips when I go to export a completed project.
The footage was shot with a Canon 5D MkIII, and I need to export to Apple TV 3 1080p 23.976. I've tried several different options (different output file-types, exporting it uncolored, and bringing it back in...) but it's continued to appear pretty consistently.
I'm not sure what attributes of a clip/effects cause it to appear on some and not others, but it's pretty frustrating!
What information about my computer/set up is best that I provide in order to get feedback for how to resolve this issue?
Thank you!Negative. The project is a touch heavy on effects, transitions and the such, but even disengaging the effects does little to resolve what looks like corrupted artifacting.
Here is a little screen shot example of what i speak of:

Zoom 100%, Shape Tool Appears on Fraction of Pixel
This has been an issue for a while since the shape tool got a major refactoring and was hoping that this would have been fixed by now, but since it hasn't I want to make sure this issue is known and people are aware.
This used to be default behavior (before CC and CS6):
When you were zoomed out to 100% and used a vector tool (shape tool), you could draw anywhere and the edges would be aligned on pixels by default because if you are zoomed out to 100% you literally cannot click on a fraction of a pixel.
Since there is now the "snap vector tools and transforms to pixel grid" option, yes you can automatically snap to pixels, but you should still be able to have vector tools line up on the pixels when zoomed to 100% and have snap turned off. I do not understand why this change was made.
Article regarding CS4/CS5 in how to align shape tools perfectly: If you have Snap to Pixels turned off, drawing at 100% zoom achieves the same result.

Looking at the web page briefly in Web Inspector from Safari 7.0 on Mavericks (Safari 6.1 on Lion/Mountain Lion would also work), there is a <canvas> element that's position: absolute that is being used as a background for the page. Because this element is positon: absolute, it's put into a layer. And because it's behind all the other content on the page, it puts everything else into a layer as well. As seen on the Safari 6.1/7.0 Web Inspector when loaded in Safari 7.0 for Mavericks:
Layers use a lot of memory, which is why Safari on iOS 7 crashes due to lack of memory when zooming back out--layers must be recreated at each zoom level.
This is still a valid bug, but finding an alternate way to paint the background (using a repeating background image with CSS) would make the page use much less memory-intensive. You can verify that there are fewer layers on the page after changing (or removing) the canvas element, and Safari for iOS should stop crashing on zoom out.
