CS3 freezes when started on Mavericks

CS3 freezes when started on newly installed Mavericks (from 10.8).  Last files are displayed and Regster window appears and then freezes up.  Necessary to Force Quit to get out.  I've "successfully" re-installed CS3 several times but the problem continues.  What gives?

  • Encore CS3 Freezes when Transcoding

I opened an older DVD menu that was made in Encore CS2. I made some changes to it cleaned up orphan timeline and dead links and added audio to menu. When I tried to export it to DVD it freezes when transcoding and locks my work station. I've done this several times on CS2 but this is the first time I have done this in CS3 and I get this problem. I tried transcoding seperately and my PC still freezes. The encore preview menue is great. Does the program only transcode AVI or does it do AVI and MP3. I really dont understand fully what it does when transcoding because either it didn't do this in CS2 or it did but it was flawless so I paid it know attention. Any assistance would be great.

    - I use Procoder3 to creat both .m2p & .m2v authoring files. Here i got 2 files of aprox 4.5G each making it around 9G & 8G
    - Using the .m2p files After creating the menue etc, i put it to burn but transcoding process freezes at 1/4 of the process. i try transcoding while file still in the project tab but it freezes at 1/4 again.
    - Using the .m2v file the problem occur as with the .m2p files...
    - I tried directly with the quicktime ref. Here it can't even trancode the Ref file!!! I tried transcoding it while still in the project but this option is DISABLED from the right-click menu.

Before is ok, can't remember when this problem show up.
Don't know where to go, please give me a hint.
You have to give us a hint.
    What is your processor?
    How much RAM have you?
What is your video card/ship set?
    What kernel are you running?
I spotted this in your dump:
[drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-2: switching from hotplug detection to polling
In this case, drm means Direct Rendering Management and has to do with your Video subsystem.  An interrupt is where the hardware sends a signal to the processor that something has happened that requires the urgent attention of the processor.  The kernel is protesting that the hardware is barraging it with interrupt requests.

  • Illustrator CS3 freezing at start up

Hello, I recently bought an iMac with the Leopard operating system on it. I installed the adobe creative suite 3 not long after I bought the computer and it was working absolutely fine up until I went to install the disc for my internet service. When I put the disc in it asked me to quit running programs before continuing so I quit Extensis Suitcase. Now when I go to open Illustrator (as well as InDesign) they both freeze at start up and are non responsive. I'm just curious if it has anything to do with suitcase and how can I fix this? I already tried reinstalling just Illustrator and InDesign but it is still an issue. Should I uninstall the whole suite and just start over? Thanks a lot.

I was having this same issue. I had also installed some fonts, after which Illustrator froze while "installing fonts," so I removed the fonts, but it didn't solve the problem. Illustrator continued to freeze on start up, albeit, now during "initializing."
The solution that worked for me ended up being very simple: hold down the Command-Option-Shift keys while starting Illustrator. Apparently it resets the applications preferences.
Hope this works for you too!

  • CS3 freezing when I try to scan..

I just started trying to scan things through Photoshop but after the scanning completes, CS3 freezes every time and I am unable to even save the scanned file. Any ideas why this might be happening?
I can scan directly from the scanner application fine, but I was informed that scanning thru Photoshop produces clearer results so I'd prefer to do that if possible..
I tried increasing the allowed memory usage in my preferences but it didn't help.

    That is absolute rubbish!
I tried increasing the allowed memory usage in my preferences but it didn't help.
Decreasing it might be better because PS may be starving the scanner software.
How much RAM do you have and what % is allocated to PS?
I lowered the RAM to the lowest "ideal range" it recommends, at 54%, and exited out of Epson after scanning/before trying to edit the image - the latter seems to have worked as it's not having problems now.
my coworker claimed she could see a noticeable difference in scanning straight from the Epson application and opening in Photoshop, vs. opening Photoshop first and scanning through there - she says the latter is less fuzzy so I've been told to do it this way but I have yet to test the theory. does it really make a difference in any way if you do it one way or the other?
could it just be something i can change in either the settings of Photoshop or the scanner that would make the difference?

  • Flash CS3 freeze when saving

I bought the CS3 suite a few years back and since day 1, Flash will freeze every time I save on a file larger than a couple hundred frames. I asked around on other forums when I first started having the problem, found no working solution and resigned to it just being one of those things that I need to just deal with. But now, I'm doing an animation project for school that needs to be of a decent length, so it's important that I figure this out soon. The lag gets larger as the file size increases. My animation is only thirteen seconds long and already it takes half a minute to save the tiniest edits. I fear that it will just start crashing aftern a certain point. What I find peculiar, though, is that the freeze doesn't happen on Photoshop, Fireworks, or any of the other programs that came with the suite. Just Flash. Any suggestions?
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
    RAM: 4gb
    64 X2 Duel core processor
The computer is from 2007 (Though CS3 is from about that time and it lagged back then, so I don't imagine that's the problem)
    I already tried:
Running Flash without any other programs running
    Reinstalling
    Adding RAM
    Saving extremely frequently

I haven't been clicking things fast. It happens when I try to save. It's not random. I've spent a decent amount of time on google and haven't found a solution. There are a lot of results about freezing and crashing, but I haven't found any on freezing due to saving.
I know it should be fine, but that's what's weird about it. It shouldn't be freezing like this and it's at a point where it's not something I can ignore.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 freezes when add new site section

I've been having this problem since I installed my
Dreamweaver CS3. It just freezes right up whenever I try to click
the 'new site' button or the 'edit site' button while in 'Manage
    sites' section.
It freezes up for about 30 seconds before it lets me in.
After that it's fine it's just very annoying to have to wait 30
seconds each and ever time I find a new file extension to add to
the cloaked list of file extensions.
I have 5 websites as sites and so anytime I add cloaked file
types I waste two and a half minutes.
Please help me, very much appreciated any response at all.

OK - where is your local site? On a remote, shared network
    drive?
Also, what is it you're doing? Adding a new file extension to
    your list of

  • Illustrator CS4 and CS3 freeze when saving a PDF as an AI file

I'm trying to pull apart a couple of PDFs into layers to import them into After Effects. I do this all the time and it's a pretty standard thing which I haven't had any trouble with before, but for the last couple of days whenever I try to save the PDF as an AI file, the damn thing freezes - I get the washing machine of death (I'm on Vista), the program goes greyed out and I have to restart it, losing all the changes. I've tried the following, none of which seem to make any difference:
    - Saving to a different drive (C as opposed to an external USB drive)
    - Trying to open the PDFs in CS3 rather than CS4
    - Trying a couple of different PDFs
I can't reinstall Illustrator as I'm not at the office until the new year and don't have the disks. The PDFs are small (300k or so) and so it shouldn't be their size making the machine hang, surely? I've attached a sample. Specs are - dual core Dell M6300 laptop, 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, Quadro 1600 graphics.
Any ideas would be very gratefully received....

Sorry I haven't replied in a few days (I'm at my parents' house for Christmas, so not the ideal place to sort out Illustrator problems )
This is REALLY weird. I was wondering whether Illustrator would be able to save PDFs (which are after all basically the same thing as AI files for this purpose) to get around the problem that way. I tried: it saved the thing fine. Next I tried saving what I'd just saved as a PDF, as an AI file. It saved it in a flash without any problems. (This is with the trashed prefs file - I haven't tried reinstating it, yet.) I've just loaded up a 14Mb AI file, and saved it again without trouble.
There's only one thing I can think of that has been changed since the last time I tried this, when Illustrator wasn't working. This is something which was definitely affecting Word 2007: I've deleted a couple of network printers that were on nonexistent IP addresses. (Word wouldn't load anything, even the most basic of docs - it just froze; washing machine of death, grey screen, etc.) The default printer is thus now a Canon USB thing, which isn't plugged in either, but which Windows seems happy to carry on without. Word seemed unable to continue with the network printers installed, as presumably it was trying to contact them and failing. Could Illustrator have been falling into the same trap??
Anyway, whatever the problem, it seems to be working OK now. Thanks both and hope you have a merry Christmas and New Year period.
    Best
    Nick

  • Illustrator & Photoshop CS3 Freeze When I Try to Open a Document

I have CS3 installed, and just since yesterday, when I open photoshop or illustrator and then try to open a document (just from file-open), the entire program freezes and won't let me click anywhere. I have to ctrl-alt-del to get the program closed. I have restarted my computer numerous times. If I don't have photoshop or illustrator open and go to my computer and find the file I want to open and double-click on it, it will open that document. But while that document is open, if I go to file-open, it then freezes again. Anyone know how to fix this?

That is I take it Pages '06? Which is a bit long in the tooth.
I'm trying unsuccessfully to find the minimum requirement for OSX 10.6, but yours may not be compatible with Snow Leopard.
Your contacts are no doubt using either Pages '08 or Pages '09 which as later versions can open yours but you can not open theirs.
Updating from Pages '06 is a no brainer IMHO.

    Hi Tomas,
Did I read in another thread that you have a Thomson-Alcatel SpeedTouch modem ?
Can you tell us which model and which firmware it is running ?
With some of their range it can get intermittent results.
Out of 50 Buddies you get about 10 you cna contact all the time, a similar number of now and then contact and about 30 who you can never contact.
If you Buddy list is much smaller you may not have noticed this.
Also things are subject to change when the OS is updated or Upgraded.
Can you also tell us which device is doing DHCP ?

  • Illustrator CS3 freezes when saving or opening ANY files

Yesterday while running Illustrator (13.0.0), Photoshop and AfterEffects (CS3 for all), Illustrator suddenly started hanging (spinning beachball) when I tried to save a small file. Subsequently noticed it would no longer open files, or save any other files - always spinning the beachball when opening or saving. Force-quitting says "Illustrator not responding".
I trashed Illustrator prefs - same problem.
    I re-booted - same problem.
Updated to 13.0.1 - same problem.
No problem saving/opening files in other apps.
Also tried running a previous install of Illustrator CS2, and now THAT has the same save/open beachball spinning problem, too! I've gotta get this running.
Don't know what to try next, short of a complete re-install.
Been running all CS3 apps trouble-free for 4.5 months, nothing new installed, no new fonts.
    Any suggestions?
Mac OS 10.4.1, Dual 2.7 PPC G5, 4.5 GB RAM

Donna - Fortunately I did get Illustrator saving and opening again, unfortunately I'm not exactly sure what solved the problem. I went through the routine of dumping prefs a few times, restarting, etc., but also added a string of expletives along the way, and eventually the thing just started to work again.
I think the solution had to do with the expletives, but I can't remember the exact order in which I screamed them.
Wish I could be of more help.

  • Photoshop (CS3) Hangs When Started

I just purchased PS CS3 and after spending an entire evening and morning getting to the point where the software asked for my serial number, I still have not gotten anything other than a PS window and an hourglass cursor with the window indicating that Adobe Photoshop CS3 is not responding. I am running Windows XP with all the Windows updates installed. I get the same result with the version right off the DVD or after having dowloaded and installed all the updates to the various components. I did many installs finally using the CS3 cleanup script at level 3 and this allowed me to enter my SN.
If I look at the application event log in XP I can see the following:
Hanging application Photoshop.exe, version 10.0.1.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
I looked through the forum and did not see the exact problem in other posts. Is there a switch that can be used with Photoshop.exe to log the application startup?
Any help would be appreciated. I am starting to think I made a terrible mistake buying this software based on using an older version years ago.
    Thanks,
    John

I am also trying to install CS3 on my computer and I have the same problem. I am using Windows Vista. After installing, the application hangs also just as described. I have contacted customer service who told me to uninstall and reinstall. I did and it continues to hang when opening. I contacted customer service and they told me to uninstall and reinstall. Did so and it hangs.
Several customer service of uninstall, download CS3 from website, and still hangs.
After several days I was referred to technical support, they had me uninstall and reinstall. The application still hangs with technical support on phone. After 2 hours on the phone, we were still creating new users, uninstalling and reinstalling, changing msconfig and still hanging.
Finally I was told by tech support to uninstall and reinstall again but you guessed it, it was close to closing for tech support and was told I would have to call back.
Waited until Saturday and you guessed it, tech support is only available Mon thru Friday. I have to work to pay for programs like this and can't take off during the week right now to spend all day with tech support.
I never saw and answer to the post as to what steps to take to correct it from hanging.
anyone else have same problem or can resolve it?

  • Aperture 2.1 stuck or freezing when started

After the splash screen when I see the main screen, the beachball starts and doesn't stop. Except for the beachball the application freezes? I'm not sure what to do, I've rebooted, restarted I'm out of options. I'm in the middle of uploading a wedding so the timing is horrible. Also I don't use the vault. I hope someone has a solution for me.

Have the same problem. Aperture not starting, deleting preferences did not help, permissions are fixed, rebuilding library did not help, removing plugins did not help.

  • Firefox freezes when starting a download

When I start a download and choose the destination, Firefox freezes for about 2-3 seconds before starting to download. In that time, Firefox doesn't respond and acts like it crashed.
My computer is completely new, running Win8.1 64Bit from an SSD, Core i5 Quad, 8GB Ram and Avast Antivir. FF is configured to clear the cache everytime I exit.
It's almost the same as in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/937267 but in my case, every download makes FF freeze, not only the first.
I already tried deactivating the Web Protection of Avast and the integrated scanning feature of Firefox but this didn't solve the problem.

Try using DownThemAll, a Firefox addon, it works perfect.
