CS3 FTP Issues in XPSP2

Recently upgraded to DW CS3 on both my laptop and desktop,
both of which were running DW MX2004. Both machines are XP SP2. I
have an issue (across all of the hosting firms I use, 1&1,
Omnis, etc) where my FTP puts will timeout excessively. I have to
click the X in the Background File Activity window to cancel...then
disconnect from the Files pane...then cancel that operation as
well. I wait 20 seconds, reconnect, and then I can put -- after it
tells me about a Synchronization issue where I have to click Yes to
put. This happens 60% of the time on the desktop, but only 3-5% of
the time on the laptop.
Also, when I have to cancel the Put, my web server will only
show a blank page until I can successfully complete a Put. This
includes pages that have been successfully loaded previously...they
"disappear." I've been waiting to see a Dreamweaver update come
through Adobe Updater.........

Do you have passive FTP enabled?

  • Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Issue on Mac

    Background Info
My Mac laptop which I had been using perfectly fine for over a year with connecting via FTP in Dreamweaver headed off to the shop last week for an unrelated power issue. In its absence, I purchased a Mac Mini to continue with my design work. I used the migration assitant to replicate the exact settings of my laptop on my new desktop from a backup of the laptop.  The fixed laptop was returned to me yesterday.
    Issue
I went to upload some site changes I had made from my laptop and up pops the FTP error that there is no respnse from server (http://img.skitch.com/20090810-8muhscacixyxkuidwkc2yiimba.jpg). I tried again with the same result and just thought perhaps that sites server was down or similar. I moved on to another site and I get the same error, and with the third site, I decided it was an obvious pattern. I then decide to try uploading the files with the desktop that I had purchased, and it uploads without a hitch.
So any thoughts on why things would work as usual for the new desktop, but never connect (the FTP log is empty) on the laptop sitting right next to it?
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks Samantha for posting back a soution - I'm sure it will be helpful to others in the future  :-)

  • Dreamweaver CS3 (9) maxed CPU slow performance and FTP issues.

Dreamweaver CS3 (9) maxed CPU slow performance and FTP
    issues.
    Never mind...I found it.
Of course I have all the firewall, worm, scanning, phishing
filtering, full time protect, and everything else turned off when I
am working on a remote/testing site however I found the Symantec
antivirus email scan being enabled (doesn't it just interact with
my email program?) was getting in the way of DW9 ftp operations,
causing some lagging that was putting DW9 into an unstable mode
during and immediately after (10 seconds) ftp operations.
The CPU still spikes to 99% during ftp functions but DW9
works even though it's likely taxed to the max but when I turn off
email scan DW9 returned to a functioning state during ftp and
remote file view. Whatever it takes huh?
PS: email scanning only never effected DW8.02
My System Info: properly configured (as in: everything works
    or I fix it) Toshiba - XP pro SP2 – Pentium 4 - 2.3GHz
    – 1.5 GB ram – Intel extreme graphics card 64 MB ram
    – Apache 2.2 server – PHP 5 – MySQL 5 -
    phpMyAdmin – Dreamweaver 8.02 – Interakt Kollection
    3.7.1 – Dreamwweaver 9 - DeVtoolbox – Flash –
    GoLive - Photoshop - ImageReady – Illustrator – Acrobat
    – CuteFTP – Putty SSH - blabla...)

Thanks for the response. I managed to Google the 'nobody' account and found the explanation.
As you say, I assumed the 'syslogd' process had to do with system logs. I did check the console and couldn't find anything of particular interest in the logs.
I'll continue to monitor but if anyone has any further suggestions please post.
One thing that might also have an impact... my available drive space is now down to less than 5gb (runs anywhere between 1gb and 5gb free depending on what I'm running). I know this causes problems for Parallels as it keeps moaning at me, but would it cause any problems with OSX?
    Thanks again,
    Tom

  • DREAMWEAVER CS4 - FTP issues

I loaded Snow Leopard onto a new imac last week.
Since loading SL I have not been about to access remote ftp's using Dreamweaver which I have used for years I now get 'permission errors', 'password incorrect' etc.
I also have an older mac here running Tiger and CS3 - no issue accessing ftp's.
The problem I think is Snow leopard interfering with Dreamweaver.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than removing SL and reinstalling Panther.

    Hi midnight in oz;
I think there is something wrong with the data you have provided for us.
It is impossible to install Snow Leopard on a G5 iMac as listed in your profile.
Also if your iMac is new one, you will not be able install Panther on it.
Could you please provide us with the correct information so that we might be able to help you?

  • More CS6 FTP Issues..??

I see quite a few threads about problems with FTP in CS6, but nothing specific to what I'm seeing.
I can setup FTP accounts just fine and the test works as expected.  I can upload files and I don't have problems loading the pages like some have talked about (and what looks like a patch was released for).
What I am seeing, though, is that if I try to upload groups of files at a time it will often upload 1 or 2 and then just stop.  Then if I view Remote and try to refresh it shows "nothing".  So then I have to disconnect and reconnect, and then it shows everything again.  At this point I can generally upload a group of files...but only once.
It seems like everytime I upload anything I have to switch to remote and disconnect and connect again to upload something after that.
Also, the syncing is all messed up.  I'm working on a site where I made a change to my Dreamweaver template, and as such lots of files on the site were updated.  Then I went to sync but everything gave me the red error icon showing that it couldn't figure out which one was newer and I had to manually specify that it should upload my local version for everything to the remote server.
Then, about 10 min later, I made another change to the template.  I went to sync again, but once again, almost all my files were telling me it couldn't figure out which one was newer and I had to manually specify again.
What's strange is that some of the files are working fine and don't seem to have an issue...it just knows those need uploaded.  About 90% of my files, though, are forcing me to manually tell it what it to do every time.
I see in the "what's new" videos that Adobe apparently made some changes to FTP and say it's a lot faster now becuase it allows for multiple connections.  I was very excited to hear that, but now with all the issues I'm having and the other threads I see about problems with FTP in CS6 I'm almost wishing I wouldn't have upgraded.
Any information on how I can get this working the way it should be would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Adobe is working on a variety of FTP issues, and is making available a patch. You can contact the Dreamweaver team directly to get a copy of the patch: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4541472#4541472.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 FTP Issues

i have created a site in dreamweaver and as far as i am aware the site works great, i have hosting and webspace with 1and1 and have connected to their servers via ftp, i have to manually upload the site and cannot seem to get the webpages themselves to upload, only the *images* folder and *scripts* upload successfully, i have tried everything i can to resolve this but have had no luck whatso ever, any help would be much appreciated, thanks

May be you can try steps suggested in the troubleshooting document. Most of the points mentioned there are also applicable on DW CS6.

  • Adobe CS3 file issues update????

Has there been any news on when Apple is going to fix the CS3 file issues that have popped up?
This is disastrous for all pros out there. This just might be as bad as the great 10.2.8 debacle, if not worse.....

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Read:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1543369&tstart=0
As you see this is not exclusive to 10.5.3. The issue is that Adobe doesn't program their file save routines properly. As for asking when Apple will fix something, no one on this board knows. The terms of use specifically forbid speculation. And people who know what Apple is doing in the future are under non-disclosure agreement. We only know what is currently possible.

  • DW CS3 locked files and FTP issues - cannot update pages

I just upgraded to Dreamweaver CS3 and now cant seem to
update any of my web pages. I can connect to the server etc and see
my files locally & remotely but when I try check out a file to
update it I get an error message saying 'index.html is a locked
file and can be viewed but not changed'. All I can do with it is
view it. When I try to unlock any files locally nothing happens????
This was not an issue before I upgraded.....I have checked my
FTP details with a version on my pc and there are exactly the
same.....does anyone know is this an issue with mac version of
    Dreamweaver CS3?
    Help!!!

Can you post a link to your child or template page and tell
    us what you have
    changed that didn't propagate?
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes
    not propagating
    from Template to child -
    1. Rename the Templates folder
    2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
    the site other
    than root level
    3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
    will not
    propagate)
    5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
    without also
    uploading the changed local files
    6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
    and child page
    is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the
    template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with
    an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if
    this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything
    like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If
    you *have
done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DWCS3) using
    FILE | New > Page
from Template, select the template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced >
    Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing
    them. Have you
    done any of those?
    Or, read this -
    http://www.adobe.com/go/dd83ba8b
By the way, this is not an official communication vehicle to
    Adobe. We are
all just volunteers and peers here.

  • Mac firewall issues w. cs3/ftp

I'm running DW CS3 in a new Mac.
I have the native Mac firewall going, plus "Little Snitch", firewall app.
Everytime I start DW (and only on the 1st FTP attempt), I get this system message (likely from the Mac firewall - not a Little Snitch type window) ...
In the Mac Firewall, the allow rult for DW is there; I tried nuking the rule and give it permission once more, but this annoying box still comes back.
    any thoughts on this?
    thanks,
    Gary

I'm also running into the same issue. I have a public domain name, and have run Windows FTP servers for about 5 years without any problems. My ISP doesn't provide reverse DNS. So Because I own the Domain name mycompany.com that points to my public IP 24..*. , if you do DNS lookup from anywhere in the world for my domain name you will get my public IP but if you do a reverse lookup for my IP you will get random123.dyn.optonline.net. When ever a client tries to connect to the FTP it takes a very long time about 60 seconds to even get the authentication. If the Users are able to authenticate its so slow it's not even usable. What is strange is that AFP over the internet works perfect, I guess it doesn't rely on reverse DNS. I also tried to add the dyn.optonline.net zone to the internal DNS server but still didn't help.
    ANYONE have any suggestions??

  • CS3 FTP will not connect!

I am quite furious with Adobe. I paid the $450 to upgrade
from 8 to the Creative Suite 3 Web Standard package and installed
it last night. The main reason for the purchase was for Dreamweaver
CS3. I manage about 10 sites for clients and wanted to upgrade from
    Studio 8 to CS3.
The installation went smoothly, no glitches... I fired up
Dreamweaver and began trying to connect to all of my sites.
Dreamweaver could only connect to three of my 10 sites. All other
sites gave me the standard login in inocorrect or wrong password
    notice.
I then checked to make sure the firewall settings were
correct and the timeout set at something greater than 2 seconds. No
luck.. the program still will not connect to my sites.
I do a search on Google and discover that this appears to be
a well known issue with Dreamweaver CS3 but I can't find any real
answers as to how to fix the problem. One would think that Adobe
would address this on their own site but I can't seem to find a fix
    there either.
I am using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 installed. My
old version of Dreameweaver (8) still functions and can connect to
    all sites.
I find this absolutly maddening that such a well known issue
has not been corrected by Adobe. They have posted nothing about a
fix or workaround. They continue to sell a product that obviously
has issues.. one of the most important issues.. being able to FTP
from the program.. one of the features I have loved about all
previous versions of Dreamweaver.. now seemingly rendered
useless... but I still pay a premium to upgrade to a program that
    does not work.
Mad, you bet! Macromedia did not have these issues.. and just
try to get tech support to help you at Adobe.. I end up in
Bangalor, wait forever and then "Mike" puts me on hold afterwhich I
    get disconnected and a dialtone.
Has anyone been able to solve the FTP probelm with DW CS3? Is
there documentation somewhere? Is there a webpage that clearly
outlines what to do to fix this issue? I'm out $450 here and mad as
    hell!

I finally got CS3 working by removing all the sites currently
definded from the program then recreating them all over again...
That's not the way this should work and I still can't believe Adobe
has not addressed the problem in some manner. I searched and
searched for info on this issue and found nothing but posts
regarding firewall issues and 2 second timeouts.. none of which
    would have solved my problem.
Adobe's switch to outsourced "help" is a further irritant.
Several times I have called support and ended up being disconnected
when the support guy could not "fix" the problem.
I bought a CS3 updgrade for Dreamweaver months ago but it
would not install because I had the Studio 8 product. I was
informed that I had to buy the CS3 Suite to upgrade Dreamweaver. So
I was out the money for the store bought boxed upgrade.. Adobe told
me to submit a LOD "Letter of Destruction" along with proof of
purchase and they would refund the money... that was over six
months ago and I have yet to see a dime. Every time I call about it
I end up talking to "Mike" in India and the connection gets
    dropped.
Needless to say I am very dissappointed with Adobe these
days... on a number of levels.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Error: Cannot make connection to host

I have Windows Vista with a new purchase of Adobe Dreamweaver
CS3 Web Premium. I am a regular Dreamweaver user since version 2.
But this FTP situation still baffles me.
    1. I have set up all my FTP parameters as usual and have
tried to use "Passive FTP" and the "Secure FTP" settings, but to no
    avail
    2. I tried to FTP via explorer and do have access to my
hosting service. The problem lies related to Dreamweaver itself.
    3. I tried to check to see if my Windows Firewall would
affect it, but it is included in the firewall exception list.
I checked the other forum listings related to this problem,
and one of them mentions about the 60 second issue. I also checked
my site preferences and it is set to 60.
I don't want to use Cute FTP. I've been using Dreamweaver for
all these years and found it annoying to get another program just
for this. I am hoping to resolve this issue here on the forums so
that other Dreamweaver CS3 users can use FTP to upload their
    site.

  • Dreamweaver cs3 FTP Fault - Not connecting anymore

    Hi,
I hope someone may know the cause of this wierd problem
My dreamweaver cs3 has just stopped connecting to server for
    any of my sites
(i got over 100 sites and tried quite a few).
My other ftp program external to cwcs3 is fine and continues
    to work. This
using the same connection settings as dwcs3 site profiles.
    Nothing has
changed on my dwcs3 profiles but yestarday I had the daylight
    saving problem
(and last year) where i had to delete the cache file as per
    adobe tech doc.
DW no longer crashing but i think this ftp not connecting is
    only since
    yesterday.
I have also installed the various windows updates that came
    out recently.
The other machines in the office continue to work fine. All
    machines import
the same saved profiles, but if i remove the site profile and
    reimport it
still dosent connect, but repeating this on another machine
    works without a
    problem.
All machines in this floor have Vista Business/ CS3 web suite
    connecting to
a windows 2003 standard ed server running iis and
    iis/microsoft ftp server.
Same result with windows firewall disabled. Only other
    security app is NOD
anti-virus, again all machines are the same.
All i get is an error telling me to try passive etc, but i
    know this isnt
the fault as the other machines with the same settings are
    fine..
here is a copy of the ftp log after trying to connect,
    selecting a file, and
    selecting put.

    < 250 CWD command successful.

    The file "/mmdftp/carrs-billington.com/Company.asp" was
    skipped because the
old remote file could not be deleted.

If i was that anal about cpu overhead, would i be using
    dreamweavers built
in ftp with its feature 100%cpu usage. Even on my core 2
    extreme 9000 cpu!!
Thanks for the links, but everything in them has been ruled
    out. The issue
is clearly not a setting within dw. Its some sort of windows
    firewall
    corruption
Even running wf.msc (advanced win firewall config) provides
    no clues

  • CS3 Performance Issues - Productivity Crippled - S.O.S.

I was having performance issues and repeated crashes with AE CS3 on Win XP, so I talked my boss into upgrading me to CS5 and Win 7.  All was well until we hired a new guy to help me with my video work load.  He has inherited my old software and there's no money for another upgrade, so we're going to have to figure this out.
He running CS3 Master Collection on a Dell PC running Windows XP (Intel Core II Duo 2.33Ghz, 3.25GB RAM).  The graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro, which came stock with the machine.  Specs on that card here: http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/ati-radeon-hd-2400/4507-8902_7-32763888.html?tag=sp ecs.  Pretty wimpy, I know.
Anyway, my new coworker has been experiencing at least as much frustration as I was, with frequent crashes, a fickle RAM Preview and bad renders.  His machine has more RAM and a faster processor than I had when I ran CS3, but his performance seems even worse  Since CS3 won't handle AVCHD files, I've been converting our HD camera footage into 720p MPG 2 (Adobe Media Encoder) for projects he's assigned.  I suppose that could have something to do with it, but I can't see why CS3 wouldn't run an MPG generated from CS5.  Anyway, I asked him to write up a short list of the problems he's experiencing and he gave me this ...
    - rendered movies are often corrupted with red frames that flash in spots
    - when i try to render an MPEG2 at full res it will give me an error message that says:
After Effects: AEGP Plugin Media IO Plugin:
There is a mismatch between Output Module settings and Transcode Settings. Please verify your settings and try again.
    Property Data Invalid!
    MediaIO2 error: 0x400e0004
    Frame dimensions out of bounds
    (5027 :: 12)
    - when i try to render a RAM preview, often it does not render the complete work area. it takes several attempts to preview the entire selection
    - occasionally, when i bring in new media it gives a message saying 'media pending' and i will have to shut the program down and re-import the media
    - it will often (1-3 times per hour) crash unexpectedly and give a message saying 'After Effects has crashed'
    - when i try to render a RAM preview an error message pops up saying it needs at least 2 frames to render when i clearly have more than that selected
It's my hope that someone here will recognize a common thread between these various issues and be able to suggest a silver bullet that will fix it all.  I realize that's not likely.  Research to date has yielded glimpses of possible solutions involving cache and scratch discs, but there are few specifics and I'm not sure exactly what adjustments to make.  I also have a spare Nvidia GForce 6800 graphics card form my own computer at home that I could donate to this office if it would help.
I'm about to pass these issues on to our Help Desk and let them deal with it, but I'd love to be able to at least point them in the right direction, since they mostly deal with standard office software and won't have much experience troubleshooting multimedia applications.  I believe they also have the option to call Adobe for tech support over the phone, but I'd like them to have a clue if they do.  Can anyone suggest what settings, drivers or hardware might be a good place to start to get my man's system running a little more smoothly?  I'd really appreciate some insight before we start poking around blindly and I offer my thanks in advance for any forthcoming wisdom.
    Thanks!
P.S. For what it's worth, my copy of CS5 is running like a champ on Windows 7 with the 64 bit OS.  My machine has an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT for a card, which can't be much better than the "Pro" version in my coworkwers machine, right?

No legal issues, both my CS5 and his CS3 are bought and paid for.  However, if After Effects CS3 is incapable of rendering a decent looking file compressed to a reasonable file size, then I'm not sure how valuable it is to us anyway.  It seems unbelievable to me that one of the most popular industry standard video aps isn't designed to render anything more than draft quality files for client review.  Even if he renders an uncompressed file from AE, CS3 didn't ship with Adobe Media Encoder as a separate ap, so what can he do with it without resorting to third party software?  I don't get it, but I'm clearly no expert on the subject.
So, things being what they are, what file format would you suggest I convert the AVCHD file to in order for my CS3 burdened coworkwer to be able to work with them?  We are a Windows shop, so I don't know if Dave's Quicktime/PNG suggestion will work for us or not.  You've always given good advice to me in the past, so if you have an alternate suggestion I'm eager to try it out.  Just go easy on me with the jargon because I'm primarily a print designer and my video skills at this point are (obviously) intermediate at best!
In any case, I really appreciate both you and Dave taking the time to respond to my post.  This forum continues to be the best resource I have for solving problems and augmenting my understanding of these programs.  My thanks!

  • Adobe Photoshop CS & CS3 upgrade issues

I have recently obtained an original disc of adobe photoshop CS and an original disc of adobe photoshop CS3 upgrade to install on my Imac which is running lion at the moment, only to be told that power pc programmes are no longer recognised. I was intending to install the  original Photoshop CS and then upgrade it to CS3, however due to this issue i cant install the original disc.
I have read that if i revert back to snow leopard then i would be able to install these programms without issue, but the question is then if i then update the OS system to lion, would the updated version of photoshop CS3 still work, being on the back of CS? or would it stop working?
If this updated programme does not work, am i better having a partitioned disc just to run snow leopard and to use photoshop, and if this is the case would i be able to access all saved images and files when running the lion side of the partition in order to sync these with i cloud and my ipad?
    regards

The bootable Snow Leopard partition is the way I would do it.
    Borrowed from Kappy,
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting is complete quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard being sure to select the external drive as the target.
Note that you will need a Snow Leopard DVD. The above will only work for you if you can boot your computer from a Snow Leopard DVD. If you have a new model that came with Lion pre-installed then the above will not work because a Snow Leopard retail DVD cannot boot your model.
Then install your CS and CS3 and run them in SL. If the images are stored in a seperate drive/partition then it should work seamlessly.

  • FTP issues on Mac OS X Server 10.6.4

This is my first server ever working with so you'll have to bear with me
I just set up the server with FTP and all is well, but I have a few issues:
    1. When connecting to the FTP server on a Windows machine with my standard FTP program or in the Firefox web browser, it does not direct the user to the root folder I have set in the Server Admin Settings. I have it set to "/Library/FTPServer/FTPRoot", which has all the share points, but instead the user will see their home folder. On Mac it works fine, they see the share points.
    2. When connecting to the FTP server in Firefox, I get "550 (filename): Not a directory" error when trying to download a file from the list, but I can view directory listings fine.
I'm sure it just some setting I've missed, but I can't seem to find a solution to this. Any idea what's wrong?

Any ideas? Still struggling with this problem...
