CS3 Hyperlinking problems

I'm creating hyperlinks (I've tried hyperlinking the text and buttons) - and once I export to a PDF they're not working. I made sure to check the hyperlink button when creating the PDF. I've checked and double checked that the url's are correct. They won't even go from one page to another within the document.
I feel like I'm missing something very simple but just can't figure out what it is!

Acrobat 9 PDFMAKER for Word - Relative Hyperlink problem

In the past I have successfully use Acrobat Standard 6 PDFMAKER with Word 2003 to preate PDF files with relative hyperlinks. I have a large massively hyperlinked PDF document collection which I distribute on DVD and hence need relative hyperlinks because people's DVD drives have different drive letters. The PDF links produced by Acrobat 6 PDFMAKER have only a single "F" entry in the CosDict and that entry is the desired relative path. The PDF files I make are PDF 1.4. These work with Adobe reader.
Acrobat 9's PDFMAKER for Word 2007 appears to be unable to produce PDF 1.4 files with relative hyperlinks that work in Adobe Reader. I get PDF files with Annot entries containing a correct "F" entry with a relative path, BUT there is also a UF entry with an absolute path. I have reported this as a bug because it appears to me that the PDF spec says the UF field is a PDF 1.7 feature. I'm speculating that the presence of this undesired absolute path in the UF field of the Annot object is why Adobe Reader (and Foxit Reader) won't follow the hyperlinks as relative paths. Foxit complains about not finding the absolute path.
Is there a way to coerce Acrobat 9's PDFMAKER to produce truly relative hyperlinks from Word 2007? Am I wrong is diagnosing the problem? I am using Acrobat 9.4.2. Is there a newer version that has fix this problem?
Any suggestions for how to produce PDF files with functional relative hyperlinks from Word 2007 would be appreciated. Since my document collection is very large (1000,'s of files in a directory tree) I'd like to be able to automate this. I have successfully written VB script code to automate running PDFMAKER but the relative vs absolute hyperlink problem persists whether I make the files one at a time from Word or in a batch from VB.

I don't believe Word 2000 is supported by Acrobat 9

CS3 reinstall problem - asking for uninstalled CS4 beta

I have a PowerBook G4 with 1.5 Gb RAM running Mac OS 10.4.11. I have the CS3 Suite installed and last year downloaded a beta copy of Fireworks CS4. After using it a bit, I uninstalled Fireworks CS4 with the Adobe uninstaller.
I recently had a problem with Bridge and decided to uninstall and reinstall the software. I uninstalled Photoshop CS3 (in order to uninstall Bridge) and when I began to reinstall Photoshop, the installer ask me to insert the Fireworks CS4 disk! Since I don't have that disk, I hit cancel and the install terminated (I tried this multiple times and rebooted each time)
I then downloaded and ran Adobe's CS4 Cleanup app. It found NO CS4 apps to clean up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Neil and Buko for your input. Here's where things stand now:
1) I uninstalled FW CS4
2) I uninstalled CS3
3) I ran Cleanup Script
4) I repaired permissions using Disk First Aid
5) I reinstalled CS3
The problems with Bridge remained (sluggish, won't display icons properly, won't show a preview image, won't operate the folder list, etc.).
So I called Adobe support. Unfortunately, because I am having problems installing CS3 and NOT CS4, support is NOT FREE. The rep was helpful though -- she pointed me to document number 331594 (Diagnosing Bridge problems) and told me to start there. I followed EVERY step . . . disable start-up scripts, reverted to original preferences, cleaned up the cache, disabled the folder windows, and the problems remain.
Guess I'll have to pay . . .
Lesson learned: don't trial Adobe software. That's when my problems began.

Adobe Reader, Telnet Hyperlink Problem

Hi, I met a telnet Hyperlink Problem in Adobe Reader.
When click the Hyperlink (like telnet://a.b.c.d), Adobe reader gives me a Alert:
Acrobat does not allow connection to: telnet://a.b.c.d
And I also need to open this telnet hyperlink in web browser with Adobe reader plugin.
Would you please give me some help?

Acrobat and Adobe Reader recently closed off access to custom protocols. Telnet is a standard protocol, but I can't see Adobe leaving it working.

Premiere CS3 Reinstall Problem

I am currently running Windows XP Pro on a Matrox Axio system in which the CS3 Creative Suite was already installed for me upon purchase. As of late I've had problems with Quicktime (Premiere and After Effects no longer see it as a compatible format) and I was hoping that as a solution, I could reinstall Premiere and After Effects from the original discs.
This theory might work but when I get the disc to the Progress portion of the reinstall, it asks me to "insert CS3 Production Premium Disc 1 into drive \\prod\Adobeapps". I don't claim to be an expert but I just cannot figure out what the installer is asking me to do and I'm very frustrated. I tried a multitude of Quicktime-related fixes that didn't yield results and I was really hoping to try this particular fix to see if it works. Does anyone have experience with this error? If so, what was your method of bypassing it?
If this helps in any way, Quicktime stopped working with my system when one day Premiere couldn't get past the CompilerAIFF.prm during the initial program load. I went back a few hours on a system restore and when I got Premiere up and running again, Quicktime was no longer a viable option. I've tried totally reinstalling stand alone Quicktime (and I did use the Windows Installer Clean Up to remove iTunes and Quicktime before the reinstall) and I've tried repairing Quicktime in the Control Panel, and helped. In fact, attempting to repair Quicktime led to a "fatal error on install" and put me back where Premiere got hung up on the CompilerAIFF.prm again.
Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

Viewing large Illustrator CS3 files problem

I use bridge to browse through previous work in created in Illustrator CS3.
Problem - when viewing these files in Bridge some files (whatever their dimensions) show as large thumbnails and others (with the same AI dimensions) are small and do not seem to stretch in Bridge?
Can anyone explain how to stretch the thumbnail in Bridge.

Sorted - I need to save the CS3 file with 'create pdf compatible file' checked in the options, and it then opens as a large thumbnail in bridge.

Bridge won't launch from CS3 - intermittent problem

Hi folks I dont think I am alone in experiencing this problem as a quick google threw up other sufferers but the suggested fix update everything at the Adobe website has not fixed the problem, so I am hoping that someone here can shed some light. Problem 1; Bridge will sometimes not open from CS3 - ie when I click on the icon , or if Bridge is set up to open automatically when CS3 opens, I sometimes get an error message that reads error 2:Photoshop is undefined. Line: 1 ->photoshop10.invoke bridge (false, false, ); When this happens Bridge will still open fine from the start menu, so it is not disastrous but is annoying because the keyboard shortcut <shift ctrl W > won't work either (to close a file in CS3 and bring the Bridge window up on screen) - a similar error message is received when using Shift Ctrl W as when trying to open bridge. Problem 2; the fly out menus will not remain on screen. Eg if I have a layer and want to access the blend mode menu - if I click on the menu in the layer palette the menu appears for a second and then disappears. Problem 3: If I try to create a new action as soon as I click on the "new action" in the actions palette the word "scripts" appears multiple times in the action - it just produces line after line of this until I click the button to stop the action. Problem 4 (may be related to problem 2 ?); in the crop tool - I can't get the cursor to remain in the width and height boxes - so I can't control the dimensions of the crop (which is currently stuck at my last size of 3 x 4 cm - not much use to man nor beast). Most frustratingly of all - these are all intermittent problems. Things I have tried - updating CS3 and bridge from Adobe site, opening CS3 and bridge before any other program, not running any other program at the same time, uninstalling and reinstalling (after disabling all antivirus etc stuff), but so far nothing works. I am using a 1 year old Dell PC, lots of RAM and hard drive available, only working from internal drives, no new hardware or software loaded (although there might have been a windows update - but this occurred after the problems started and has not noticeably changed things). Windows XP pro. Recently done whole system scan for viruses etc and no problems found. Please help, this has been going on since I loaded CS3 a few months ago and it is driving me nuts. Amanda - One consistent recommendation that has fixed a lot of problems, especially if program worked before, and does not now, is to reset preferences. This is not the same as uninstalling and reinstalling, as the preference file is not affected with that operation.
Since it is intermittent problem this will probably not help, but worth a shot.
When it does not work is there some process that is running, like a anti-virus scan, or?
What about startup scripts in Bridge? Disable any you do not need.

PDF with hyperlinks problem

Hi all.
I have a PDF document that I generated from a word document. The word document was created using Office 2007 on a windows XP PC. I converted the document to PDF using Acrobat 9.0 Standard. Upon conversion, the hyperlinks within the PDF file worked fine for me. My PC has IE8. I sent the document to the administrative assistant in our office to review the PDF document. When she clicks the links, she gets the security window asking her to allow or deny PDF access to the web. She clicked the button to allow the link, and then nothing happens. No browser window opens. I checked her machine and it's an XP box with IE7 on it. She is using the acrobat reader 9. I asked a few other folks in the department to try clicking the links and their computers acted as expected. I do not see why problems exist. The only difference I could find on the problematic PC was that the Bing and Google toolbars had been installed. I tried disabling them and that did not solve the problem.
The boss in my department wants to insure everyone in our department (all 9 of us) can open the links within the PDF before we declare the document in its current PDF state complete and ready to distribute. I have been searching Google for assistance. I found out how to use the link tool to modify the links so they run JavaScript code "app.launchURL("http://www.somesite.com", true);” instead of using the open a web link command. That way a new browser window is opened with every link click rather than using an existing open window and having the user possible missing the opening of the link. I’ve now tried both methods and am still at a loss. Both methods bring up the security window, but fail to launch the browser.
All help is greatly appreciated.

There are a few possibilities. First try removing the toolbars rather than disabling them. See if there is any security configuration in IE and Reader that is stopping the weblink from opening. It is possible that the issue is with a security setting within IE that is causing the problem. To check this out see what happens if you view the pdf from within Firefox.

How do I fix these hyperlink problems?

Here's my situation. I'm a copywriter at an ad agency and I just published a site in iWeb to showcase my work.

These are the type of hyperlinks I'm having problems with:
A text box that links to another page.
A thumbnail image that links to a larger jpg.
For example, if you are on the page that shows my print/magazine work ("PRINT")... you'll see a list of brands/clients, but two clients- "Sealy" and "Midway Airlines" won't be hyperlinked.
And when you're on the same page and you click on "Thomasville Furniture" it'll take you to a page that has 3 small thumbnails. For some reason, the first two aren't linked, but the third one is. (I've noticed that a lot of thumbnails that are located in the middle and to the left of the site don't link up, while those placed to right of the page do. What's up with that?)
I've made sure the links are correctly linked in iWeb... I've checked to see that nothing is behind the link... I made sure that boxes weren't touching or overlapping... I've saved in iWeb before I tried republishing a page. And now I'm just scratching my head.
I've asked three other people at work... and they're all stumped.
To kill me softly even more, I've got a couple of hot job leads... but I can't forward anyone a link to my half-working website. Aaaarrgggh!
So this is my S.O.S. signal. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
In case it matters what kind of machine I'm working on, I'm on an Intel MacBook Pro/ 2GB /2.16 GHz. And I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.8 and iWeb 1.1.2.

"Some of your links are in the nav layer"- what exactly does this mean?
When I turn on "Show Layout" I see a thicker gray line that cuts across the top portion of my page. Is that suppose to be there? Do text or thumbnail links have to be above it or below it?
A friend thinks that I should make sure the boxes for "Include page in navigation menu" and "Display navigation menu" are unchecked in the Inspector.

Hyperlink problem when exporting to PDF

We are using Crystal Reports XI R2 and having a problem when exporting a report to PDF that contains a Hyperlink to "A File". The hyperlink works correctly when previewed inside Crystal but when it is exported to a PDF the text does not appear to show any hyperlink at all. Am I missing something or is this a bug?

Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).

If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).

Adobe CS3 Extended - problem w Bridge - picture displayed wrong in Horrizontal Filmstrip mode

Recently started have problems with Adobe Bridge (CS3 Extended) after it did an automatic update from Adobe for my CS3. The problem is that the panel where the picture appears in "Horrizontal Filmstrip" is now positioned to the far right - partially off the screen; plus, whatever action done previously is showing through the panel area where the picture should have been. Doing "refresh" does not help.
Tried to reinstall the whole program but the problem did not go away. Then uninstalled the whole Adobe CS3 suite (which includes Bridge); then reloaded the probram; and, then the problem went away. As soon as I downloaded the updates from Adobe again, the problem reappeared. Anyone no what to do?

Did you try to reset the preferences by holding down the ctrl key and starting Bridge? You will get a reset window, choose all 3 options.
A re-install will not affect this file so if contaminated before it will be contaminated after.
Also, make sure you have the latest video driver, as this affects the filmstrip mode.

Well, who told you it was for a Mac? If you bought it at a retail store, you should be able to take it back there and exchange it for a Mac copy. If you bought it used, you should demand a refund from whoever you bought it from.
Of course, that is all assuming it's actually a Windows copy, and there's not something else going on... What does it say on the CD? My Photoshop Elements CD is very clearly labeled "Macintosh."

Hyperlink problem when converting Word to PDF

I am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard version 7.1.4 on a Windows 2000 environment.
I am using Word XP/2002 SP3.
I have a couple of problems when converting Word to PDF.
When converting a long link which is in 2 lines, PDF just takes one line into account, not considering the whole link
When I have hyperlinks that links to a web page, the link works fine in Word but in pdf, it gets the few words after the url address making the link not work. For example. I have a hyperlink that http://www.google.com/ and after this I have the words: "This is a sample text". The hyperlink in pdf would then become http://www.google.comThisisasampletext
Do you have any ideas how I can correct this?

To get the cross references, you have to use Convert to PDF (PDF Maker part of the Acrobat product). However, you first need to go to the print menu and set the printer to the Adobe PDF printer. Close the print menu and then do a reflow and link update of the document (ctrl-A, then F9 I think). This is needed to get the links correct since WORD reflows the document based on the printer (problem with them going to the wrong place).
Printing to the Adobe PDF printer (the step of print to file is not needed, just print to the printer and the rest is automatic) does not include the links. PDF Maker is a PreProcessor for the Adobe PDF printer that adds PDF Marks to the PS file before it is sent to Distiller (OK, the printer when used normally creates a PS file and then invokes Distiller to complete the process - your steps did with the Adobe PDF printer is the same process done manually).
Summary:
1. Fix document after setting the printer to Adobe PDF.
2. Use PDF Maker (create PDF button)

JS CS3 : Hyperlinks.add(y,z) always recreates the same object :-(

I am trying to create hyperlinks from an index. The command works fine except that doc.hyperlinks.add(source,destination) always rewrites the former one. They don't stack and I need them to do this way.
Could you help ?

Once again, thanks for your care on my topic.
Sorry for "stacked", my frenglish stroke back ;-)
I mean that the standard behaviour of adding hyperlinks is like that in the hyperlinks palette :
h1
h2
h3
but in my script, the last hyperlink in the palette isalways replaced by the new one. I don't have a case like I describer but this in the palette :
h1 is replaced by h2 which is replaced by h3, etc.
So at the end I have only one Hyperlinks when I want 3 of them. As I said, I launched the script 3 times and expected to get 3 different hyperlinks but in fact, I get always the same replaced hyperlink.
I place screenshots asap.

h1p.jpg are the h1 properties.
h2.jpg is the capture of the palette after I launched the script the second time. The second hyperlinks replaced the first one.
