CS3 Illustrator and Indesign problems

I am still using CS3 and have recently reinstalled (uninstalled from old comp) onto a new computer with double the capacity - now 8GB 64 bit OS Wind 7 Prof.  Since it has been on the new computer both Illustrator and Indesign close down on opening.  Indesign I haven't been able to use successfully, but I am using Illustrator, slowly and patiently.  The message on Indesign is basically the same each time, 'No virtual memory, free up memory' or similar.  Illustrator opens asking to relink/replace all images & graphic, but  closes down each time I try to relink through this prompt.  What I do is 'ignore' and then manually relink.  This seems to work for awhile, then goes into 'Illustrator Not Responding' will either freeze or close down, either way I loose what I have just done.
What can the problem be, apart from it being CS3, no use saying I need to upgrade, because the company will not do that.  Do I need to download a patch or update etc.  Help, getting a little impatient with it all.
Cheers
Donna

Short answer: CS3 is not tested and not certified to run on Win 7. Therefore, at the riosk of sounding rude, as far as Adobe is concerned, your problems are your own. There are no patches or magic buttons to push. All you can hope is to maximize compatibility by turning off UAC, using compatibility mode for Win XP, running with admin privileges and so on. Talk to your IT department/ person. If you can provide exact system info and the crash details, we may be able to advise further.

  • CS3 - Illustrator and InDesign quits when trying to print

    Hi.
I have posted this on the Illustrator forum as well.
I have just bought a new iMac i7 running OSX 10.7.2. I have reinstalled my version of CS3 and I can open all elements - Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
The problem I am having is that Illustrator and InDesign quit when I try to print. It happens when I use 'command P' and when I go through the file menu. Photoshop doesn't quit when printing.
I can make PDFs of the files and I can print those (although sometimes the PDF won't print through my RIP software).
OS is updated to the latest version. All printer software and RIP is the latest version. InDesign also quit a couple of thimes when I was just selecting a line of type. i
It did it a few times when selecting the same line. I restarted the Mac and all seems OK with that now but I still can't print.
Can anyone shed any light onto this? I tried Adobe and they don't support CS3 any more and their Technical Department suggetsed I try this forum.
I don't want the expense of upgrading my CS3 at the moment.
    Thanks
    Roger

I have had a reply on the Illustrator forum and it has worked for me.

  • CS3 Illustrator  and InDesign conflict

I can open Illustration App but I can NOT save files or open previously saved files (beachball)
If I re-install - everything works OK until I close Illy and then Open InDesign and work with that then close that and try to Open an Illustrator file. (Again with the beachball) I tried trashing prefs, resetting permissions, even tried it with no Illustrator plug-ins
On a G5 Mac lots of Ram

If anotehr user account works, then it could be a font or some other corruption in the OS.  Easiest, best solution, is to archive and install the OS.

  • Problems installing Illustrator and Indesign from CS3 suite

I am trying to install Illustrator and Indesign from CS3 suite.  Previously I had been running a trial version on my Mac, and now am trying to install the suite from the original install discs.  I have gone through the process of uninstalling all of the Adobe programs and then reinstalling.  When the install disc loads up and I get to the point where it lists the programs to install, in the top box Illustrator and Indesign are listed as already being installed and have no option to install them.  When I search my computer there are no Illustrator or Indesign applications.  I am able to reinstall the rest of the suite and it seems to work fine but can't seem to figure out what step I'm missing as far as reinstalling Illustrator and Indesign are concerned.

I haven't tried doing it on Vista but I would recommend looking for
Adobe clean up programs.  The problem I had was that the computer had
a trial version and then I tried to install the full version and it
wouldn't let me install illustrator because there were some random
illustrator files that conflicted with the installation process.  I
ran clean up program and it removed all adobe files.  Then I
reinstalled photoshop.  Before you start running clean up programs
make sure you back everything up.  Good luck

  • Printing problem with Epson R290 Illustrator and inDesign

I am running CS2 on Leopard and have recently purchased an Epson R290. The first time I used it with Illustrator and InDesign it worked fine but now whenever I print anything it prints a tiny version (about a sixth of the real size) of the design in the top left corner of the page. It does this both with new documents and old ones that used to print ok.

Since I posted the message about this problem I have discovered that it can be worked around by choosing a higher quality print. ie if you choose plain paper when printing from Illustrator or InDesign the printer prints a reduced size image but if you choose Ink jet mat or glossy the print comes out fine. I don't have this problem with Photoshop but that may be that I always print high quality from that application. I don't use Appleworks Draw so don't know whether this solves the problem for that application but iWork documents print ok.

  • Smart objects from Illustrator and Indesign dimensions problem

I have been trying to find an answer to this problem for 6 months now and surprised no one else has tried to find any answers.
When we import something from illustrator or indesign as a smart object, for some reason the objects width and height will not keep their  dimensions in proportion.
When the asset is first imported as a smart object it says the width and height are exactly 100%. However after that if you try to change the dimensions they will be out of proportion, usually the width will be 100% but the height will be out by about 1% to begin with. When you scale up, the percentages fall further and further apart. See image attached.
This has become a real problem for our workflow as the creative director insists we must  correct every layer which has this issue by typing in the sizes manually, but then this doesnt always fix the problem either depending on which version of photoshop you are using.
Why does this happen, and how can we fix it for good?
    Thanks, Chris.

I do not have the answer for I don't have illustrator and indesign.  I do have Photoshop and have notice that it try to match resolutions and maintain sizes but it may also scale placed object etc. There are some some Photoshop preferences setting that can effect some operations. Photoshop also has support for non square pixels.
Make some test if illustrator and indesign have setting for pixel aspect ratio and DPI resolution. Make sure all documents have the same pixel aspect ratio and same DPI resolution and that the vector object to be imported are not larger then the Photoshop document their being imported to.
Thanks for the suggestions, but none of these would be the answer. Illustrator is Vector so it does not use DPI / Pixel aspect ratios etc.

I have a CC student membership for one year, but I can only download trial versions of for example illustrator and indesign (30 days). How do I solve this problem?

If there is no billing issue,
Creative Cloud applications unexpectedly revert to trial mode | CS6, CCM
If you use Photoshop at all, you may need to install the latest update to resolve this issue. See this blog post for more information:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2013/01/photoshop-13-0-413-1-2-updat es-now-available.html
If you do not have Photoshop, then try the solution that others have mentioned previously:
Open the Adobe Application Manager (AAM).
If applicable, let AAM complete any automatic updates and restart itself.
Sign in with your Adobe ID. (Optionally, you can close AAM at this point.)
    Open a CS6 application (e.g. InDesign CC).
If prompted (e.g. you get the trial screen), click "License This Software" and sign in with your Adobe ID.

  • Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS5 crash when trying to place images. Happens around 5+ times a day.

    Hi there
This Mac is quite new and was originally a migration (using Migration Assistant) from an older Mac.
Illustrator and InDesign in CS5 were both crashing often and most of the time it's when placing an image (in either application) – it doesn't crash each time I try to place an image, but 90% of the crashes are when placing an image.
We tried lots of things, like cleaning out the fonts, clearing font caches etc. After several months of that, we decided to wipe the Mac clean and start from scratch. It has been reformatted with a clean install of the OS and only minimal additional software added. Although quite a few fonts have been reinstalled, they all validate in Font Book.
One other thing of note is that the Adobe Updater fails to complete an update and so we have had to update each application manually from the Adobe website.
I would be so grateful someone could help shed some light on what is going on. Here's an EtreCheck report. Can also provide crash reports from the Console if useful.

I installed Adobe Illustrator and InDesign on Windows 8.1. They worked great until I closed the programs and tried to open them up again. I now get the error code 16.
