CS3 Illustrator font issues on Windows 7

We just upgraded our Vista and Xp computers to Windows 7 and loaded and activated our CS3 creative suite. (Yes, we will most likely upgrade soon, but not today.) Everything seemed to go swimmingly until we noticed that we had lost about half our fonts. Even when we installed them in the Windows 7 fonts directory, Illustrator didn't recognize them.
How do you make sure the installed fonts are recognized by CS 3 programs?

I found the instructions below in the Illustrator forum--see thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/699968
If you're still stuck, I recommend that you post a new question in the Illustrator forum.
If you are on a Windows machine you need to copy the .otf or .ttf file to C:\Windows\Fonts but don't just copy them.  Use Windows Explorer to navigate to that page and then from the menu options choose "Install Font" or something to that effect to properly install it on the system.  Once you do that the font will automatically be recognized by Illustrator.  you may have to restart Illustrator for the changes to take effect, but you won't have to restart the computer--they're simply fonts, not program applications.

  • MAC to PC Illustrator Font Issues

    Hi all,
I am using a PC designing labels for a company.  Many of the previous labels were outsourced to designers who used Macs.  When I open the Mac files, the fonts don't display correctly or don't display at all.  I am trying to decide if it is worth investing in a Mac to be able to access the HUNDREDS of Illustrator files from outsourced designers or if there is some way to get this PC to find similar fonts.  I work in an environment where things are constantly changing and I need to be able to quickly update files.  As it is now, I must do major formatting every time I open a file from a Mac-based designer.  I went so far as to purchase font licenses for many of the fonts but the PC font name doesn't always match the Mac font name or if it does, it isn't the same exact typeface.  Long story short, in your opinions... do you think an investment into a Mac is worth it or is there some trick I am missing?  Just some info on my background--I am far more experienced in InDesign/Quark on a PC with limited Illustrator use and now everything is based in Illustrator.
    Any advice/insight would be helpful.
    Thank you!

Are the images in CMYK mode or do they have a color profile

them? Fireworks doesn't understand color profiles and
    generally, IF FW
can open a CMYK image, the colors will are altered to RGB.

  • Font issue on windows browsers

    Dear All,
I recently developed a site in Adobe muse, but i realize that when i look at the site on my Mac all font's look good. When i look at the site in a browser on my PC the font doesn't look right. It's a normal Arial font. You can see the issue with the character W. All w's look thinner than the other characters. And the font doesn't look that sharp.
Did I do something wrong with my export?
    http://www.vectar.nl/TEST
    Best regards,
    Dick

On a mac it looks perfect but my client told me that on a PC the font looked unsharp. So I checked on a PC also and see the same problem. Did you check on a PC? All W characters look thinner.
I agree with the font size, but it's still in experimental phase.
    Best regards,
    Dick

  • Creating Timelines in CS3 Illustrator

Does anyone know how to create timelines (needed for a trial board for a lawsuit) in CS3 Illustrator? I use Windows. I've been searching books and the internet, but haven't found anything. do I just use the simple shapes and pen tools or are their better ways to do a project like this?
    thanks! --Carrie

I did a Google search with keyphrase 'timeline software' and came up with a number of hits, right at the top of the list, including at least one product designed specifically for litigation case analysis.
Of course, you can do things like this in Illustrator using simple shapes and lines. And you can "pretty it up" using any number of features. You just won't have any interactivity. Example: I expect timeline software to enable entry and editing via an event list of some sort. Don't expect such comforts if you're going to do this "manually" in an illustration program.
Then again, I don't have AI 13 (CS3) and would not be aware of any timeline feature that might have been included since the previous version.

  • I am not able to access ANSI character ALT 0165 Symbols font (infinity symbol) in Illustrator in CS (Windows 8.1) but I can access it in Illustrator 10 running on Windows XP. Any way to download the complete symbol character set under symbols to Illustrat

I need to use the infinity symbol in Illustrator but it is not available in Illustrator in CS5 running on Windows 8.1. It is available in Illustrator 10 running on Windows XP. Is there any way to access the INFINITY character under fonts in Illustrator in CS5 (Windows 8.1)?

Thank you for your suggestion. But I do not know how to access UNICODE. How do I download Unicode fonts?
Also I have a problem working copying illustrations from Illustrator launched from CS5. The illustration does not copy correctly into FrameMaker 10 with Windows 8.1. However, the illustration copies correctly if I use Illustrator 10 in my computer with Windows XP. How do I solve this?
When I called Adobe I was just told that they do not support CS5.

  • Adobe Pro 8.0 Mac to Windows Font Issue

Here is my dilemma: We have a fillable form created in Acrobat Pro 8.0 on a Mac. It is sent to a Windows Vista (Acrobat Reader) user who then fills it, saves it and sends it to a Windows XP user (again using reader). When the XP user opens it, the characters are all changed to dots. If it is sent to another Vista user, it is fine. To me, it sounds like a font issue. Can someone give me some insight on how we might go about fixing the issue? Thanks.

How do I check to see where the fonts are embeded? Originally the form was created in MAC InDesign then imported into Acrobat to insert the fillable fields. Our grpahics person is not sure where to check the settings in Acrobat. Thanks again.

  • Font rendering issue in Windows 7 with Aero

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and using Firefox 19.0.2. Aero is enabled, but the ClearType font smoothing is turned off.
At completely random intervals, text is rendered like this in Firefox:
    http://i49.tinypic.com/vgshv4.png
Sometimes it can be fixed as simply as hovering the mouse pointer over the affected parts. Sometimes I have to mark the text to get it rendered correctly, and sometimes it can be fixed by scrolling the page.
It can happen on any sites with any encoding, regardless of the font size and color, but I noticed it's extremely rarely happens with Japanese text. It never affects the whole page, only random parts of the on-screen text, and sometimes the interface text as well. Also worth mentioning that it never happens when Aero is turned off.
Is this a Firefox bug, or is something wrong with my system? Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue, uninstalling windows update kb2670838 fixed it for me. See also:

  • [Forum FAQ]Solution for Windows PowerShell console font issue when changing system locale

    Issue description
After changing Windows System Locale to another country, users cannot modify Windows PowerShell console font to Lucida after modifying the font settings. There is also a potential bug report in Microsoft connect:
    https://connect.microsoft.com/PowerShell/feedback/details/806286/powershell-4-console-font-issue
    Reason
In most situations, this problem is caused by system locale is changed to other countries from United States, such as Chinese, French, etc. Because of this change, the code page and font of Windows PowerShell console might be changed with system locale.
For Example, if change system locale to Chinese (Simplified China), Windows PowerShell console
(%systemdrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools) properties would be changed like this:
    Solution
To resolve this problem, please follow the steps below:
Access to the path below to find the shortcut of Windows PowerShell:
    %systemdrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools.
Right click Windows PowerShell and choose Properties.
Switch to Options, check if Current code page list there, if that it is, choose
437 (OEM-United States) and click Apply. Maybe you will encounter an
Access Deniedpop-up as the following picture.  Then you need take ownership of current PowerShell File, switch to
Security Tab and obtain full control permission for current User Account.
Note: if Current code page was not list there, just leave alone
Options settings and switch to Font Tab.
Switch to Font Tab, choose the font you wished to use, click
    Apply.
After the above settings, current Windows PowerShell console font should works as you wished.
    Applies to
    Windows PowerShell 3.0
    Windows PowerShell 4.0

    Cause
This issue is due to the bootmgr file, we cannot use the bootmgr file of Windows 7 to find the Windows 8 Operating System files.
The Windows 7 bootmgr can indeed boot Windows 8.
This is on a BIOS system
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVO5aeaKeeE
This is on a UEFI system
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3-K6Fyobz0
The Windows 8 bootmgr partially loads Windows 8 before offering the boot menu.  By choosing Windows 7, the system must do a reboot.  Using the Windows 7 bootmgr, no reboot is required.

  • Can you work between mac based and pc based files using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc. without any font issues?

I work for a print company and we are wondering if Creative Cloud eliminates the font issues from designing a project on a pc and then making changes on a mac later without font issues.

I should clarify a bit...If a customer sends us an InDesign file that they created on a pc and I open it on my mac, will I be able to load the pc fonts without any issues? I realize that if they are open type fonts I would be ok but how about any other fonts?

  • Missing font issue

    Hi
I am currently still using FWCS3
When opening a document, I got the popup warning that a font wasnt installed on my system etc.
But, the font is on my system, I went into the fonts folder in windows and checked.
How can I get FW to recognise the font?
    Cheers
    Fiona

I've been having similar issues in CS4 not CS3. When I recently opened the CS3 file in CS4, all the fonts got screwed up. I contacted the developer of FontAgent Pro and they were unable to help.  It works in CS3.  Aside from the horror I have experienced with type, i run into features that are "only available for the PC" . . . even the export icon which worked in CS3 is grayed out now!  I haven't tried it yet, but I hope I can save my file back to CS3. I've used Fireworks almost from the beginning, so I am very disappointed.  I can't afford to upgrade yet to CS5, but if it's not any better, why bother.
Egads, I've lost two days just trouble shooting.
If someone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.  I'm on a Mac using OS 10.5.8
I have no problems with Photoshop CS4 or Illustrator CS4 [which still is inferior to Freehand]
Adobe's condemnation of Apple for not allowing Flash on the iPhone is unfounded.  If Flash is as buggy as Fireworks, no wonder Apple does not want to to have anything to do with Flash.  And what's with PCs having more features then the Mac, and Mac sometimes having to wait a year before they get even get the "features".
Oh yes, there is one feature in Fireworks CS4 I like.  The "Photoshop Live Effects," but that was once available in the Macromedia version and got dropped when Adobe bought Macromedia.

  • Font issue in Acrobat 8

We have been having problems with .eps files placed in Quark and exported to a pdf. In Acrobat 7 standard the fonts from the .eps file gets garbled when read on the PC. Use local fonts seems to cure this problem, but I took the pdf file and opened it in Acrobat 8 and got this message. "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XYSNP+Trajan-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Now all the surrounding text in Trajan that was input from Quark 6.5 changes to a different font when printed. Would switching to an Opentype version of the font solve this problem?
    Thanks

I have been having the same sort of problem but with Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS2, and Acrobat 8 Professional. I am the only Mac in the building (brand new system), everyone else is on PC. I am only getting the font issue with the Optima family. The school I work for purchased the font as a PostScript Type 1 outline font. We were guessing that I might be having issues because I am on a Mac.
When working in InDesign, I have to print off most of my pieces on an inkjet printer, if I try to print to a xerox laser, Indesign crashes or pops up with an error "There is a problem with the font Optima." I have been using both methods for creating a pdf in indesign:exporting to and printing as.
If I use the optima font in Illustrator I get a "can't print the illustration. There's a bad font used in the system" error.
When I create PDF's through Indesign, the PDF turns out fine on-screen, but the error message pops up "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XQFZSM+Optima'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When I try to print the PDF out on either a laser or inkjet printer, the optima font has a lot of missing letters or is replaced by a different font.
This has been very frustrating. The weird thing is that it doesnt happen with all projects that use the optima font. I have done some very small projects (envelopes, postcards) and have either had an issue or no issue at all with optima; and Ive worked on larger projects (magazines, newsletters) and have almost always-from what I can remember-had a problem.
Is this something that I can fix with program settings? Or would a Mac compatible font be the solution?
    Thanks

  • Fonts not appearing in CS3 program font lists

Certain postscript fonts (ZapfDingbats and Rubino Sans) are correctly installed in Windows 7 and available to Microsoft programs (Word and Excel) but not to Adobe programs. That is, they do not appear in any of the CS3 Design Standard applications (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator) font lists when the application is open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the fonts and CS3 to no avail. I have added shortcuts to the Common Files/Adobe/Fonts directory to no avail. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I assume by PostScript fonts you really mean Type 1 fonts. (TrueType and OpenType fonts are every bit as much "PostScript fonts" as Type 1 fonts are!)
There is a known problem with the CS3 applications with all Type 1 fonts under all Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit versions when such fonts are installed in the Windows System Font directory. The problem is fixed in CS4.
The workaround is to copy all the Type 1 font files (both the .PFB and the .PFM files - each Type 1 font has one .PFB and one .PFM file) to the Creative Suite's private font directory. Depending upon the CS version, that may be in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
                   or
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
Restart the Creative Suite programs you are using and the fonts should appear.
You may also copy said fonts into the private font directories of the individual applications (typically a directory path ending with the node name Fonts.

  • Old Macromedia - Adobe cross platform font issues

This message is more directed to Adobe.
I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype, postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC - many of the styles are not available.
In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC - our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient.
When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?

"I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform
compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign."
No, they are fully cross-platform compatible. The Adobe products you
mention, along with a very few others, are the only applications
capable of taking full advantage of the advanced features available in
some opentype fonts. And even the three products you mention don't all
necessarily support open-type in the same way.
"However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious
cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype,
postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC -
many of the styles are not available."
If you are using the same application version on both platforms, you
should have identical functionality. If you're using an older version
    of Fireworks.
The only cross-platform style issue with TT or T1 fonts is that
Windows doesn't recognize any styles other than Regular, Bold, Italic,
and Bold Italic. Also, there's a font menu difference between MacOS
and Windows. Mac display all available styles, whereas Windows only
displays the family name, and you have to select the variants from
somewhere else (typically "B" "I" "U" buttons). SOME font families
from some vendors use the style function to define such variants as
Small Caps, Light, etc. MS products get ... confused.
"In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC -
our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a
result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient."
If you're using different applications for design and rendering, and
their functionality is different, then you have a cross-application
compatibility issue. You didn't mention what applications or versions
    are involved.
"When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?"
It may be more a Microsoft issue than an Adobe issue. In addition to
the style limitations, There are no MS products that yet support
    open-type features.
Although Adobe personnel do sometimes visit here, this is not a
"talk-to-Adobe' forum. Since your problem is application related, I'd
suggest taking it to the appropriate application forumsFireworks
    General Discussion looks right.
And, as Bob said, you might also contact Adobe support directly with
    your concerns.

  • Font issue in CS5

I'm currently using Vista with CS3 and considering upgrading to Windows 7 and CS5. Is there a font issue with the Windows7/CS5 combination? I had to buy a third party font manager when I upgraded to Vista and would like to know if CS5 fixed the problem.

Can you be more specific keeping in mind that this forum is for SUITE SPECIFIC issue only.
If you have a question about a specific application please post in the appropriate forum.
Note: Do not do an inplace upgrade from Vista to Win7. You should only do a clean install after backing up all of your data and deactivating your software.
If you decide to upgrade make sure you buy the proper package. For Design Premium you must buy the CS2/CS3 to CS5 upgrade: http://amzn.to/9Vltbt

  • CS3 Illustrator & Photoshop won't scale proportionately using parallels

    Hi there
I have an Imac and am using Parallels 4.0 to access Windows XP on it. I have CS3 Master Collection loaded on Windows. The problem I have is with the proportional resizing with this software.
The issue occurs when I'm using Photoshop and the transform tool and scaling an image/object holding shift on the keyboard and using a mouse, usually this would retain the object proportions whilst scaling but it doesn't. Similarly, when I use Illustrator and try to resize an object using the selection tool and holding shift it doesn't retain the proportions either. That's just happening when I'm using CS3 via parallels and Windows. With the Mac running CS3 it doesn't happen nor does it happen when I boot straight into Windows without running Parallels. If I hold now the Caps lock key with shift it works but it's not a great fix as then when I go to type Caps lock is on etc.
I've seen this issue on forums but usually the fix is to do with Quicken or Entourage, here's an example but not a solution for me unfortunately: http://www.layersmagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1206
I'm not running Entourage or Quicken or any of the other software that seems to cause this issue.
I'm wondering if there is a conflict with the Mac/Windows and Parallels or something.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Also posted on CS Windows forum.
    Thanks, Jo
