CS3 InDesign Place Picture Changed on Me?

I was going along, placing pictures by using Command/d.
But something changed? I was getting an image of what I was trying to place so that I could pick which one I wanted to place out of the list.
But then for no reason, all that came up was a list of images and no images to look at to see what I wanted to place in the catalog. To find an image I might want to place, I had to go open all the images in the folder and then look at the name after.
Did I hit something wrong to make it lose the images for me to choose from? Thanks.

Do you work with layers?
If yes, have they got mixed up, are they still in the same order?
If no, why not? Have items from the master been released to be editable?
Do you work with a content management system? Which on? (I know one which mixes the order sometimes, but I am not allowed to use their name, because they don't want repair their bug and don't want to see their name related to this bug in the internet.)

Help, InDesign transparency tool changes opacity of entire document

Hi. I just got Adobe InDesign CS5. I have been a very long user of QuarkXpress. What I would like to do is a linear blend of
colours in an object to a design I am doing. Then I would like to change the opacity of the SELECTED OBJECT only. But for some reason when I select the object and change the opacity, it changes it to the picture that is underneath the object to a different colour blue than what was originally in the picture I created? The picture was created in Photoimpact 11, with Pantone Blue as the colour.
First, I created a new document and inserted a PNG picture that fits on the entire document as the background, that has a very bright blue background. I want to put a rectangular text box at the top with blended colours. When I create a new object, using the rectangle tool, and then put it on top of the picture, I select the rectangular box, I right click and go to Effects and then Transparency. I select the "Select for" prompt to "Fill". Then on the right side where it says "Transparency, Basic Blending" it is selected as Normal mode and I move the opacity to 64%. When I click on ok, the picture underneath changes colours to a different colour light blue for some reason?? But the thing is, the picture colour that changes to light blue, stays the same whether it is at 99% or at 1% opacity.
Why is my picture changing colours? How can I change the objects opacity to not affect the pictures colour underneath? I have been trying for hours to figure this out. When I have done this in QuarkXpress, it doesnt affect the background picture at all. The only issue is, when i convert to PDF from QuarkXpress, the pantone blue comes out a totally different colour, like a lighter blue. But when I converted this background picture in InDesign without any other objects, it came out perfect! Please help me. Thank you.
I also want to mention that I update to the latest version of InDesign CS5 7.0.3 and updated everything else, and still it was having a problem. Thanks.

Wow. I can't believe this.
I figured this solution out.
I fixed this problem by enabling Edit-->Transparency Blend Space-->Document RGB.
Now my background picture is just fine. Before, Transparency blend space was in CMYK. I guess that was the issue?
If anyone else has this problem, just keep this in mind!.

Hard to say what is happening without examining the file.
If you like click on my blue name and email me both the .pages file and the the .pdf you have made from it.

Adobe CS3 Indesign no longer prints under 10.7

Upgraded the OS to Lion (10.7.1) and found I can no longer print documents when using Adobe CS3 Indesign. I checked with an apple rep, and they advised that they thought CS3 should still work ..... yeah, right! I believe this also affect CS4 users, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS3 software as suggested in a forum, with no joy - the problem still exists. I think Apple should provide a patch to allow compatibilty with software that worked under OS 10.6. Upgrading to CS5.5 is not an option, as the software is way expensive. How about NOT putting people off upgrading their OS, Apple?

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

When placing a png in indesign the png changes/loses its original color. Ex. the very clear blue that I am using turns dark and "dirty". ( my RGB is : 5,125, 255 - when I type this I get a " out of gamut warning" a little yellow icon. When I click on it indesign automatically changes the RGB into: 67, 117, 187)
I have worked with indesign for 6 years and never experienced this before. I am guessing it has something to due with that the png is in RGB and indesign in cmyk, but I have no idea what to do about it?

Out of Gamut means the color cannot be printed in your current workspaces using CMYK inks. You would see a preview of the converted color if you move into Overprint Preview, use Proof Colors, or there is transparency and the blend space is set to CMYK.
If this is destined for screen use, then the color doesn't matter, but you should be sure the blend space is set to RGB.

Desktop Pictures: "Change Pictures" in System Prefs no longer works.

I used to have my Desktop pictures change every five minutes using a special folder of photos. This function no longer works. The setting appears to be in effect according to the System Preferences Desktop Pictures Pane but the function appears to be broken in 10.4.5. I have trashed the Destop Pictures Preferences file in the Preferences Folder, but it still will not work.
Can anyone using Tiger 10.4.5 get this to work?

OK, that was really dumb!
The reason for the problem became abundantly clear when I quit Pathfinder. Suddenly the picture change became functional again.
So, I guess Pathfinder will not follow the Finder when it comes to settings like this.

Desktop Picture Changes to Solid Blue Automatically

I have never seen this problem. I have had one of Apple's standard black and white pictures as my desktop for years. All of a sudden (don't recall any changes to system) my desktop is solid "Apple" blue. If I change it to anything else it reverts back to the solid blue within a few minutes. I tried opening the console and viewing all messages to see if I could get a clue to what system call might be change it but I saw no messages occur as I observed the desktop picture being changed.
Can anyone tell me how I might track down what is changing my desktop picture?

I tried it and it didn't work. My desktop picture changed almost immediately after logging in. but it did lead to the solution. I noticed that the desktop picture changed at the same time as Entourage Alert's launched (this was turned on the same day that the problem started. So I turned off Entourage Alerts and logged in and out. The desktop picture has remained as selected.
I'm not interested in running Entourage so I don't care about the bug.

I will create an "swf" file that actually has better compatibility than QT if one's not using an Iphone or Ipad.

You have to sign out completely and then sign back in.
On a Mac, System Preferences>iCloud and click 'Sign out'.
On an iOS device, Settings>iCloud and click 'Delete account' (this will not delete the account from the server).
Your synced data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in (give it time).

InDesign 5.5 changes Stories IDs on export document

I'm working on a project where part of the work involve InDesign templates. The rest of code calling elements from the InDesign templates refence them using IDs (IDML component name) - including files from /Stories subfolder of template and then reading content.
One of the options that I want to give for my customers is ability to modify some of the template elements and then re-render template using these modifications.
Unfortuntely I just realized that when I open .IDML document via InDesign and the export again as .IDML it doesn't keep the same component names (IDS) for elements like Stories. Everytime on export all is changed - including file names in /Stories subfolder. It's the same behavion using export in InDesign app and calling open/export metthods via Applescript.
Is there a way to force InDesign to not change IDs (IDML component names) when I open and export .idml document ?
I've tried all the options of "Open" dialog (open normal, open original, open copy) without success.

IDML is not for utilising as a template manager.
IDML was introduced for
1. As a method to save files from later versions of Indesign to be opened in previous versions
2. For problematic old files not opening correctly in a newer version of Indesign
3. General corruption clearing of a file when it misbehaves unexpectedly.
For Templates you should save as an InDesign Template

This will allow you to use the Open commands as you want to.
Open Normal - will open the Template in InDesign ready for Editing
Open Original - will open the Template in InDesign to edit the Template file and resave
Open Copy - opens a copy of the original file to be edited.

CS3 InDesign won't install, Mac OS 10.5

I've just received CS3 Design premium, and InDesign won't install. There is no reason given, just that it won't install. Shared components and Version Cue Server won't install either. I just upgraded to Leopard on a g5 Intel system. Any ideas on what to do next?

I think I just got lucky - it hesitated a few times then finally clicked.
One of the previous posters suggested to not install Version Cue, so I
clicked that one off. Did you repair the permissions and restart before
installing? Spin around 3 times clicking your heels saying, there's no
program like InDesign?
If you can stay in InD 2 I would suggest that, expecially if you use a lot
of clipping paths. InD3 has a bug there that won't see interior paths, so
you have to go back into Photoshop to rework the image. If I had only know
that before.....
