CS3 is unable to read raw images from my Nikon D5000.

I'm a brand new user to Photoshop and to this camera.  Camera raw 5.4 plug-in is only good back to CS4.  Anybody have a fix here?

You have two choices:
1.— Upgrade to CS5; or
2.— Download the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter and convert your raw NEF files to raw DNG files that you can then open in CS3.
Incidentally, this question really belongs in the ACR forum:

  • I'm thinking of buying a new camera. Does anyone know if can I process RAW images from a Nikon D5100 or Nikon D3200 using IPhoto on a OSX 10.5.8?

I'm thinking of buying a new camera. Does anyone know if can I process RAW images from a Nikon D5100 or Nikon D3200 using IPhoto on a OSX 10.5.8?

I think you'll note that Google found the list for 10.8, amazing, isn't it
No, neither are supported for Raw on 10.5.8
    You'll need 10.6.8 minimum for the D5100
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825
and for the D3200 you'll need 10.7.4 plus compatibility update 3.1.3
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
Bear in  mind that you may also need to update your version of iPhoto too.

  • I cannot import RAW images from my Nikon Df.

    Hello,
I have a late '11 Macbook Pro that currently has OSX 10.7.5 and iPhoto version 9.2.1  and for some reason I cannot import RAW images from my Nikon Df memory card.
I don't know if I have something wrong in my settings or if my current iPhoto and/or OSX needs to be upgraded.  Is there anyone here that would be so kind to help this technically challenged old man and tell me what I need to do?
    Many thanks!

You'll need OS 10.9 Mavericks and Camera Raw update 5.0.2 and Aperture version 3.4.5 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4.3 or later, is required to install this update.
The good news is that all those updates are free as you have 10.7.
As always, back up all data before upgrading anything.

  • I'm unable to download RAW images from my Canon Rebel T2i to my flash drives. JPEGS are fine. WHY?

Suddenly I'm unable to download my RAW images from my Canon Rebel T2i to my flash drives when just a few weeks ago I was able to. What happened? I can download JPEGS just fine. No error codes, software works like normal, i see the previews and when i go to my flash drives to open the files the dated file is there but it opens with no images. I've reformatted the memory card twice now, so that's not the problem. Any ideas from all my new friends out there. Thank you.

We may need more info.  What are your flash drives?  What are you using to copy?  What computer/OS do you use?
Normally a file is a file... a computer doesn't care what type of file it is.  Whether or not any software knows how to hope the file wont impact the computer's ability to copy it.  This makes me wonder if it is being copied, but can't be opened (e.g. if the software you are using doesn't know how to deal with a Canon T2i RAW file (.CR2).
RAW is more of a "concept" than a "standard".  Every camera model's RAW file will be slightly different.  If you want to open an image in, say, Photoshop... they provide "Adobe Camera RAW" updates for their software and you'd need the update that supports your T2i (btw, when Adobe releases a "new" version of software, they tend to stop providing RAW updates for all previous versions of that software.  So depending on what version of software you use... the only way to get it to work with RAW may involve having to upgrade the software (there are some cumbersome work-arounds.))

  • I have a Mac with photoshop CS6 regularly updated. I am unable to read RAW images CANON Power shot G16 /ADOBE LISTING WAS of NO HELP

Is there any one who could let me know how to read Raw images Canon power shot g16? I tried all I could and followed the suggestions given by ADOBE but noting works. I see the images with other program but I cannot work on them.

Check your version of Camera Raw installed: Help (Win)/Photoshop (Mac) > About Plug-in > Camera Raw.
If it is less than 8.2, it won't work with this camera.
If it is less than 8.6, you don't have all the updates installed.

  • Problem importing RAW images from my Nikon D80

    Hi.
I'm having some problems importing images from my Nikon D80 when I've been taking photos in RAW format. IPhoto recognises the camera as usual, and allows me to name and describe the roll. However, it then seems to freeze and won't import the photos.
IF I stop the import, then open the camera as a disk, I can physically grab the .NEF files from their folder and drop them into iPhoto where the import will carry on as expected.
    Any ideas?

See my reply to your other post.

ACR 8.4 provides support for the Nikon D4s, and there is now ACR 8.6 for Photoshop CS6.

  • Lightroom 1.4 won't read RAW images from my camera

I upgraded from a Canon Rebel XT to a Canon 1000D (Rebel XS), and it won't read RAW files anymore. When I try to import a RAW file, it says "file appears to be unsupported or damaged."
I've read that I can download a plugin to solve this problem, but I'm not having much luck. I've downloaded Camera Raw 5.2, which says that it supports the Canon XS, but it's still not working. Perhaps I've installed it incorrectly? Please help. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but another workaround for this common issue of trying to use RAW images taken with a newer camera than is supported by the version of Adobe software you have may be to use Canon software included with the Canon XS to import the Canon RAW images to your PC's hard drive, and then import them using the Adobe software. If they're still not recognized by LR, you'd have to first convert them with Canon software to another format such as TIFF or JPG, which of course, besides being a nuisance additional second step, loses the advantage of having taken the photo in RAW to begin with, though you could do basic white balance and exposure corrections with Canon software on the RAW files before converting.
If you'll be using a lot of XS RAW photos in Lightroom, it's probably worth the hundred bucks to upgrade to LR2 which most users feel is much more powerful than LR 1.4 anyway and therefore worth the charge. The adjustment brushes, graduated filters, and improved sharpening make the upgrade worthwhile, and then LR could import your XS' RAW photos directly from the camera. However, *if* your PC is barely managing with LR 1.4, you may find LR 2.x too slow for your PC. You can try LR 2.x first for a time for free before paying for the upgrade. Check out the video tutorials on the upgrades because their use is not intuitive and you may falsely conclude they don't add much function if you don't learn how to use them.

  • Why am I now unable to read RAW files from 5dmk2 camera.

  • I cannot access my raw images from my Nikon d5300 in PSE12.

From the website, it states that PSE12 would be compatible with camera raw plug in through version 8.3, which my camera requires.  The error I get when trying to open in PSE 12 states that the file I am trying to open appears to be from a camera that is not supported by the installed version of camera raw.  How can I open my raw images in this program? If I cannot and will not be able to, how can I get reimbursed?
    Thanks

    Hi,
That would tend to indicate that either you haven't updated your PSE or you have corrupted the raw files.
Check which version of Camera Raw you have installed by loading the editor and going to the Help menu. Select About Plug-in -> Camera RAW. You need ACR 8.3
To update, go to Help -> Updates.. which should update your camera raw if not running on XP or Vista.
If you have ACR 8.3, are you using an old version of the Nikon software to download the images? - that can corrupt the file.

  • Which Updates are required to read RAW files from a Nikon D300

iPhoto 6 on Tiger can't read RAW (nef) files from my Nikon D300. Can I just update to iLife'08 or do I need Leopard as well?

    AndyMm
I'm not sure about iPhoto 08, but you will definitely need 10.5.2 for the D300.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475
So if you don't want to update to iLife 08, try update to 10.5 first, see if that works for you.

  • Imoprting RAW images from my Nikon D90 into iphotos

I'm sorry I know this must be pretty basic but I am having problems importing my RAW images into iphotos. I have a Nikon D90 and I shoot in both jpeg and RAW - when I import the images from the camera into iphoto it imports two images but they are both jpegs and of course when I upload the either of them into Photoshop - Photoshop does not open up with the RAW convertor because the image has come across as a jpeg.
    1) Have I lost my RAW images - if not how do I get them back, and
    2) What should I be doing in the future to avoid this?
Sorry to trouble you with such basic info - but you know what it is like - it can be so frustrating until you get it right,
    Thanks
    Ray

when I import the images from the camera into iphoto it imports two images but they are both jpegs
    They're not.
    Processing Raw in iPhoto
When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically creates a jepg preview of the file. Why? Because you cannot do anything with a Raw: you cannot print it, use it a slideshow and so on. However, with this preview you can work with the photo immediately. (Which kind of makes shooting Raw and Jpeg perhaps a little pointless?)
You can, however, also process the Raw in iPhoto simply by editing it. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut). The output from the processing then replaces the preview. You can choose to save your output as either jpeg or tiff in the iPhoto Preferences.
When you are processing Raw in iPhoto you will see the Raw badge on the bottom of the iPhoto Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Note: After you have processed a Raw, subsequent edits to the photo are carried out on the processed jpeg (or tiff) not the Raw. If you want to go back to the original then you need to use the Photos -> Reprocess Raw command.
Processing Raw in a 3rd Party Application
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots. Add that to your jpeg from the Raw and Jpeg shooting and now you'll have three versions of the shot...

  • I have Photoshop CS5 and am trying to download the Camera Raw plug in which will enable me to look at RAW images from a Nikon D800 . The download appears in my " Downloads " folder but when I try to open a RAW image I get a message up which says it can't

I have Photoshop CS5 and am trying to download the Camera Raw Plug in that will allow me to open images taken with a D800 camera .
It appears the download has been successful when I look in my " Downloads " Folder but I still get a message up saying the installed version of Camera RAW won't support the Camera model ( i.e. D800 ) . What am I missing ??
    Tony Fletcher

You need to download and install Camera Raw 6.7.1 for CS5. Once you have downloaded it, you need to install it while CS5 is closed.
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Once downloaded, unzip/unpack the file, and run the executable to start the update, following the instructions.

  • Is there a plugin for Elements 12 which will allow me to download/edit raw images from a Nikon D70?

I am currently using a Nikon D70 and would like to edit the raw files. I think Adobe did a Camera Raw plugin for Elements 3.0 but I would obviously like to buy the newest version of the software and need to know whether it will still meet my demands. If not, how do you get your hands on an old version of Elements?

Yes, photoshop elements 12 should open your Nikon D70 camera raw files just fine.
