CS3 Layer Window default

Last December Scot herring wisely told us how to change the default in the Color window (Topic: Illustrator CS3 color swatch display). This works beautifully; much appreciated. Now is there any way to have my long layer/sublayer list in the Layer window come up as I left it when I last closed the doc, at at least all closed so I don't have to manually close every layer each time I reopen the doc? In the Preference settings Scot mentions the AIWSPrefs (which I take it means 'Adobe Illustrator Window Preferences') I see the following options for layers. Has anyone found if any of these would solve my problem? None appear to address this issue.
/AdobeFlashTextPalette\ DockGroup (AdobeFlashTextPalette)
/AdobeFlashTextPalette\ DockCode 65536

I don't know what you mean about "creating from new in the root and your user" but it sounds like it may just be a corrupt Finder pref.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist and delete that file. Then log out and back in or restart.

  • Restoring Layer Window

In the Layer Window, each Layers' image box just has an image of a paint brush, not the photo/modifications in it. How can I restore the default, so that each Layer shows the photo/modifications in it?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Right click the little brush icon, and chose something other than None for thumbnail.
Or you the panel dropdown (top right corner) and choose Panel Options near the bottom of the list, and you'll find the thumb options there.

    Hello everyone,
I was having the same issue:
"Setup Error. Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance. Quit."
If you receive this error also, press Quit and follow these steps:
    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. Administrative tools (in classical view)
    4. Event Viewer
    5. Application
You will see something like this:
Double-Click for error (emphasized by red color). I have an error like this:
"Error 1327.Invalid Drive: E:\" if you have the same or e.g. Drive F:\ ir whatever letter, you should solve this problem extremely easy - just insert USB-flash into computer (it will launch as E\ or whatever disk) and than run installation again. It will work than.
Setup doesnt start if disk is offline.

  • Full Steps to run CS3 in Windows 7

How to run CS3 in Windows 7....Full Steps
How to work with old software in Windows 7 Ultimate.....(That is the software that I used for Adobe CS3 and it worked beautifully. Other versions may be slightly different, but in general, the same steps apply.)
Note: This is written with the issue of Windows 7 will not run software designed for XP or Vista.
    What you will need:
If you have Windows7 Home or Home Premium, you MUST upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise.
Otherwise, you will be wasting your time and money trying to figure out how to do it with other processes.
If you need a good software to partition your hard drive, to run other types of operating systems, I recommend Paragon Partition Manager 10.0 Professional, but for Windows 7, you will not need it.
What you will need, after upgrading your computer and operating system to the one's listed above is two downloads from Microsoft.
The first download: XP Mode Software
The second download: Virtual PC Software
This link and address will take to you to Microsoft to first run a system check to see if your software and hardware are compatible and able to run the additional needed software.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
This page will run the needed test to see if your system is compatible to run the next steps.
Once your computer passes the compatibility tests, it will then present you with two links to download the necessary software for Windows 7 to operate in XP Mode for your older software.
    Installation:
Download and install 1st: XP Mode
Download and install 2nd: Virtual PC
Once installed, restart your computer and if needed, you will need to get into the BIOS to turn on Virtualization Technology.
This next step is based on the HP Pavillion Elite e9260f PC. Your system may be different, but these instructions will follow based on the system above and Windows 7 Ultimate.
On the first start up page, you have options at the bottom to get into the BIOS.....F10 is the option to stop startup and enter the BIOS.
Move over to Power Options and you'll see Virtualization Technology.
Arrow down to that setting and hit Enter. A small window will open with Disable and Enable.
Choose Enable and then F10 to save and exit.
Then let the computer go through the start up process again, all the way to Windows Desktop.
Once you are up and running, Go to Programs through the Start button.
Click the folder named: Virtual PC
Then click on : XP Mode to finish setting up. (this process is literally setting up an XP Operating system, so follow the instructions it offers carefully.)
Once the setup is complete, you will be given a User Name and a choice of a password. With this mode, you must enter a password.
The next window to appear will be for XP Updates. Turn that on for a very smooth setup for the rest of the process.
Once this is done, then you will see the setup process taking place.
When XP Mode finishes installing, it will ask about the settings for Virus Protection, just click that you will manage the virus protection yourself.
Then, you are set up with XP and are now able to install Adobe CS3 software and other to work with.
The internet works with the XP Mode desktop, but virus protection is possibly not enabled on the XP Mode, so I recommend not using the internet through XP Mode to search the web. Use Windows 7 for that.
When setting up CS3, disable your antivirus software to prevent any conflicts while loading.
Put your CS3 disk in the disk drive and instead of letting it run automatically in Windows 7, on the Start button of XP Mode, go to and click RUN.
Click Browse for the DVD-CD and then Explore the disk for the Autorun file.
Then you will be presented with the Adobe install window and just follow the instructions for Adobe from there.
It may ask for the RAM to be at a minimum of 1GB. Just ignore this for now and you can make adjustments later, within the software.
Once Adobe CS3 has finished loading, it will may ask for a restart.
Close the XP Mode Window at the X and it will then say, "Going into Hibernate."
Do a shutdown or restart in Windows 7 and then go to Programs and choose, Virtual PC, click on XP Mode and it will then open the XP mode again.
Go to the Start button to Programs, Choose your Adobe CS3 program and go to work!!
    You're Done!!!
All old software that you were working with before, will operate the very same as it did when it was on a straight XP or Vista computer.
Hope this helps and after finally getting all this information, which did not come with my new computer, it was a VERY SMOOTH transition.
    Enjoy!!! and you are welcome....
    The Cajun Lady

I don't quite understand your question....The issue before was that Photoshop CS3 will not run
in Windows 7 as a stand alone program, making it necessary to have Windows XP Mode to run it.
They said here at Adobe that the CS4 upgrade and stand alone software was designed to run in Windows 7, but CS3 was not and would not be changed, that the only option was to upgrade to CS4.
I felt that was a little unfair to the one's that got CS3 in the past year and from what I understand, CS5 will be coming out soon.
This doesn't particularly apply to Adobe, but to other software as well.  I had read that iTunes will not work in windows 7 and has to have XP Mode to run.  There was an issue that I read in a forum about the "Bonjour" file had a conflict with the systems folders and I experienced the issue of it causing my registry to drop out with each shutdown.
Once removed, drivers and software had to be reinstalled and activated, only to have it do it again for the required shutdowns during setup.
Once I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, and removing Bonjour from the system, the problem went away and I haven't had to reinstall anything since.
So that is something to also think about, before trying to upload any software that is related to Apple/Mac on the Windows 7 platform.  If it has to use the Bonjour file, you will be much better off to upload directly to XP Mode instead, as there are no issues with XP.
Basically, it's a "trial and error" process to see what works and what won't within Windows 7.  All the information is brand new to me and so I'm still asking questions myself.
    Thanks for asking.

  • CS3 and windows 7.

I have cs3 and windows 7 64 bit.  I was able to run cs3 in xp, but everytime I try 7 it hangs up right before it asks for my serial number.  The installation is perfect, everything goes great, but when I open cs3 it opens up a blank cs3 window, and the curser timer starts and that is all.  when I click anywhere it says "not responding".
I have heard of this before in this forum... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/377888
The guy was running vista and got it to work through this.... http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3750
But I am running windows 7 and vista doesnt work on here, is there a license thing for windows 7?
I have been looking for weeks!!!!
    I reformated my pc twice!
    Someone PLEASE help.
    Thank you.

Little confused here. How can CS3 install perfect when the serial number is not installed?
When you install PS CS3 on Windows 7 you have to install the software itself as Admin. Put the disk in but don't install. Choose explore the disk or open and then look for the PS CS3 folder. Open the folder and locate the .exe file. Right click on the .exe file and select run as Admin.
Before you do the install ensure windows defender is turned off. Ensure any anti-virus is not running. If adobe reader is installed remove it. ensure no other adobe product is running in the background.
I do not have CS3 installe but when CS4 is installed on windows 7 it will hang around 90 percent complete and will take 10 to 15 mins to finish. Might not be true for CS3 though....
    After install, reboot computer.
After reboot, go to start, all programs and right click on PS CS3. Choose properties, compatibility, and check run as Admin. Hit apply then ok to close.
Click on PS CS3 to see if it will start. If it runs update to 10.0.1
Now if you have any problems running CS3 after all this right click on PS CS3, properties, compatibility, and check run this program in compatibility mode for: Choose Vista SP2. If you have display problems then go back to this tab and check disable visual themes and also check Disable desktop composition.
Hudechrome, a regular poster on here, has installed CS3 on Windows 7 before so maybe he might chime in with his words of wisdom (or something like that). I am not sure if he did what i wrote to install CS3 on windows 7. I error on a caution side of things.

  • Can't install CS3 on Windows 7

I know there's a similar discussion in this section, but I'm having slightly different issues with my version. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I bought my copy of CS3 (Design Premium) used via Amazon.
There are a couple different things going on. First, while I understand that this software takes up a lot of space and will require some time to install, mine is taking an exceedingly long time. I've left the computer running for hours - as in 5 or 6 or more. The place it gets stuck is the installation progress window - those progress bars do not move the entire time, and I also notice the disk drive stops making noise, so absolutely nothing gets installed and no progress toward installation happens.
Also, I did have CS3 on the computer previously as a trial version (I did not enter a serial number) and uninstalled it once the trial ended, so I still have the downloaded setup/installer and I tried using that, assuming I can just enter the serial number included in the purchased version. I get told the serial number is invalid...though that may be because the previous version was the full suite and I just kept a couple programs. When I installed CS3 that last time, I don't even think it took an hour to install (I only installed Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Flash). So I have no clue why it won't install now. Note I uninstalled the old version before trying to install the new one, mostly because I couldn't run any of the programs.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The computer is not very old - only about 4 months old, no viruses, not used much, so there shouldn't be anything going on to interfere with installation. Also, I did get CS3 for Windows, so the OS is not the issue either. Is the fact that my version is pre-owned a potential cause for problems? Like maybe the previous owner never deactivated the software before selling it? Are the previous version and current version somehow conflicting with one another despite uinstalling?

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, try again. and if you bought it used, you will have to run a Transfer an Adobe product license to handle activations properly.

  • Can Reader pick up the Default Page Size of a printer that is not the Windows Default Printer?

We have a web based application that generates PDF documents via Crystal Reports.
We are using Adobe Reader 8
The PDF pages are displayed within an Internet Explorer window where the the users then print the document.
The application is designed so the user only gets one chance to print the document (ie they cant come back and change printer settings if they happen to print the document out incorrectly)
The document needs to be printed on A3 paper, full duplex.
We have a printer set-up decidated to the printing of the documents generated by this application.  The default page size of this printer is set of A3.
If we set this dedicated printer as the Windows Default Printer we have no problems at all.  The default page size (A3) is picked up and the document is printed correctly.
If any other printer is set as the Windows Default Printer (eg one that has a default page size of A4), the users must obviously select the correct printer from the Print Dialogue Box -however when the user selects the dedicated A3 printer, the page size remains as A4 (page size of the Windows Default Printer).  This means the user must remember to change the paper size to A3 each time.
Out users find IT a struggle at the best of times - anything that makes the process simpler is very welcomed!
Is there a way to ensure the default page size of the printer is respected when that printer is not the Windows Default Printer?
    Thanks!

    No.

  • Photoshop crashes when rearranging layers in layer window.

Photoshop crashes when rearranging layers in layer window.  I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended on a MacBook Pro purchased 5 months ago. I have tried restarting the computer.  I am able to rearrange layers with the hot keys.

    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.
Does turning off OpenGL in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

  • CS3 on Windows 7 and 64 Bit

    Hi all,
We are looking to obtain a new workstation for our graphics designer and we are currently running CS3 on Windows XP.  The new workstation would be a 64 bit version of Windows 7.  I have done a bit of browsing on the Adobe forums and found a couple of older articles and forum posts related to this.  I thought I had read Adobe had tested CS3 on Windows 7 and it works but I was reading some forum posts saying people had issues doing the install.  Also, it seems like most of the apps in the CS product line are native 32-bit, would anyone see any issue with running the product on a 64 bit platform?  Right now, we just don't feel the need to upgrade to the latest version of CS.  Can anyone let me know their experience with this configuration?
    Thanks!

Creative Suite 3 has never been tested on Windows 7.  You can find the system requirements for Master Collection CS3 at http://www.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/software/creativesuite/mastercollection/systemreqs. html.
You are certainly welcome to try the installation and report back any errors which you receive.

    Hello!
I recently sold my Macbook Pro and have a now useless fully licensed CS3 production-premium for Mac, and need to trade it for CS3 PP, Windows!
If anyone out there is interested in a trade?... you can reach me: [email protected]
I would be willing to trade the whole suite just for PS, AE, and Premier CS3, or just PS, and AE CS3!

Just got off the phone with Adobe... and they will not do the transfer, unless I upgrade to CS4
Trade is my only option at the moment.

  • OTF/PS fonts have recently stopped rendering in Flash Pro CS3 on Windows 7/64

Recently, a number of my OTF/PS fonts have stopped rendering when used in Flash Pro CS3. The fonts appear in the fonts menu, render properly in the font preview popup in the font menu, but the fonts fail to render on stage when used, with certain exceptions:
--If Bitmap Text is selected, the fonts appear (but aliased)
--If Anti-alias for animation is selected, then the text appears when text insertion is active in the text box, but vanishes when focus shifts to another element, tool, selection
In all other cases and for all other settings (yes, including black text with 100% alpha on a white background, etc etc), the text shows solely as transparent. You can select the text (although not see what you're selecting), cut and paste, and as you change the font size, kerning, justification, bold, italic, etc, the text boxes resize as normally expected; simply, the text does not show up.
The fonts work normally in all other CS3 and Windows applications, and up until about last week (Dec 12 or so), used to work fine in Flash.
The problem fonts appear to be (primarily Open Type Format) Post Script Outline fonts.
I have installed all Windows updates, Flash Pro CS3 updates, deleted the Flash user config files, deleted and reinstalled the fonts, and copied the fonts to the C:/user/Program Files/Common/Adobe/Fonts folder.
There were no new installations (applications, fonts, etc) around the time when the error started showing up, aside from possibly Windows updates.
Given the timing (worked fine Tuesday, failed on Wednesday), I believe a Windows update may have been at least partially responsible, though perhaps it's the Mayan apocalypse.

It works, but there are known problems with installation and use so you should consult the Adobe support forums. If you're trying to install it on a new PC, just get the latest upgrade package from Adobe. You'll get A LOT more out of the latest version than you would CS3 since CS3 doesn't support the newer technology and lacks hardware acceleration.
