CS3 Lion Error: Free Transform Blurs and Distorts Image

Pretty self-explanitory when you look at the pics:
You can see that when the image is rotated, it becomes blurry and the edges become jagged. The more the image is rotated the worse the condition becomes. I never had this problem before upgrading to Lion. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Many thanks for your replies - that's very useful.
I should have mentioned that I will always be resizing down. Also, when performing my standard method for resizing (using Image Size) I always stick to the standard Bicubic then follow up with sharpening (specific for my output). What you've told me is great as it means I can simply perform the transform of each image and then an output sharpening on the entire canvas. This should be equivalent to resizing, sharpening and then copy-paste of individual images to the same canvas.
Using smart objects (which I seldom do at the moment) is an interesting thought, which I'll have to look into. I could copy a smart object from each of my source files, resize and then perform a smart object sharpening to them...
Many thanks again!

    Hi all,
I have a problem in my BPM.
I need to capture an error in transformation Step and send it by email with a send step without alerts.
Is there a way to do this in BPM?

    Hi Mariano,
Please check the standard pattern in IR under software component SAP BASIS ->Integration process
-->BpmPatternReqRespAlert.Hope this will help you for building the scenario.
In this process we define a deadline branch to monitor the deadline. If the deadline is missed, an alert is triggered and this can be sent to an email too.

my i phone screen starts blinking and showing funny and distorted images before going blank. now it's blank, how do i get it back to normal.?

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data, but a reset can cure some glitches.
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device, explained in this article:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Don't use the backup afterwards, to rule out a software problem. If the camera is working again, restore from the backup.

  • Elements 9 - how to add the grid over "free transform" to twist an image/layer

    Hi Every one!
Im sure I asked this before, but I cant for the life of me find the post!! I think I must have dreamed it!! (shame I didnt dream the answer lol)
OK so Im now on photoshop elements 9, Is there a way to properly bend and transform a layer? I USED to for to free transform (control
+T) then click on a grid at the top of the screen which ment I could bend any part of the picture...
If I tell you what Im trying to do it might help?
Im trying to bend a rainbow.. at the moment Ive used the rectangle tool and created a rectangle rainbow, but Id like to bend it into shape, maybe even distort it a little to look like this...
    stbanabaspreschool.vpweb.co.uk/default.html

Well, I think the best way to create a rainbow would be to use a vector program, but there's a way to use PSE9 to get a rainbow effect that might be useful.
    Create a new image.
Use the fill tool with a spectrum fill (I used the "Medium" spectrum):
Create a small, tight circular fill:
Zoom in to give yourself room to work on it.
Make a circular selection around the outer edge of the spectrum, invert the selection and delete it:
Make a small circular selection in the center, delete that; make a rectangular selection covering the bottom half and delete that:
Select the spectrum and use Layer...New...Layer via Copy to get the spectrum on its own layer with a transparent background.  Then squish the spectrum:
Rotate the spectrum 90 deg. right and move it to the left of the image area:
Use Filter...Distort...Shear with these settings to pull the spectrum into an arc:
Rotate the spectrum back left, and transform it into something useable:
    The layers look like this:
It ain't perfect, but might be good enough.

  • Reflections and Distorted images - How?

    Hi,
I've seen quite a few flash files out there mimicing the
apple 'cover flow' so I know this is possible....
What I want is to have an image in a movieclip (which I will
load in dynamically from an xml file...) - I'll then animate this
cip onto the stage from the side (simple transition). All pretty
straight forward, but I also want to have the image slightly
distorted - as if its slightly rotated in 3d - and also have
    relfection underneath.
Does anyone know an easy way of doing this? I have found a
reflection class (from pixelfumes) which works well; and is easy. I
did find a distortion class, but the 2 dind't seem to work
    together!!
Can anyone help? a couple of simple classes would be better.
Just on a side note - I dont really need to animate the
distortion - simple set it to a specific angle.
    Cheers,
    Tim

you should apply the distortion first, then apply the
reflection using your own code so there's no problem with code
    conflict.
the reflected image will be your distorted image with an
xscale or yscale of -100 with a decreased alpha and translation to
    the correct position.

  • Blur and distroted image as final product? Why?

I use photoshop to resize the images and the resolution to 72dpi. I use fade filter. After I placed them into motion, export them, and imported into Final Cut Pro 5, render it, them view it on the monitor. It looks terrible blur and distroted. Why? How to fix this problem?
    Thank you
    Luis

    Ok lets break it down.
"I use photoshop to resize the images and the resolution to 72dpi."
Ok, if you want to. But, you could just import them and size them as you want in the Motion composition.
    "I use fade filter."
Not sure what that means but I'm guessing you do this in Motion not PSD.
"After I placed them into motion, export them,..."
Whoa, export them. What are you settings and do they match you FCP sequence settings?
"...and imported into Final Cut Pro 5, render it,..."
Well, if you have to render it your export settings in Motion must be wrong. Unless you mean you save the Motion project and then import the Motion Project file into FCP. Then you would need to render. You still need to make sure your setting match.
"...them view it on the monitor. It looks terrible blur and distroted. Why? How to fix this problem?"
The short answer is we need more info. Look at the things I said and get us some more information.

  • Error message when dragging and dropping images to album

I recently installed the Elements 12 upgrade on my MacBook Pro. My previous version was Elements 10. When I try to add new images to my existing albums by selecting, dragging and dropping them into an album the operation does not work and i get an error message "Error Applying Keyword Tag(s)"

    Thanks for your reply Andaleeb,
When you look at the numerous discussions on the PSE forum on this Organizer window issue it's not just a problem I had (Thread 14444851) but other users who have Elements 10, 11 and 12 are experiencing similar problems. There appears to be a serious compatibility problem with OSX 10.9.2 and these versions of PSE. Although my issue was fixed by your support staff,  the fact that many other users are experiencing this issue points to the need for a universal fix applicable to all Mac users. There is a lot of frustration out there among Mac users and Adobe needs to deal with this problem.
I am really surprised that on all the other discussion posts on this issue, there is not a single comment or response from Adobe staff! Given the lack of response from Adobe, it appears that the Adobe policy is to sit back and let the Mac users determine their own solutions.
Please pass this post on to your management so that corrective action can be initiated.
    Thanks for your help.

  • CS3 Free Transform Tool does not work at all for distortion

I tried everything, worked with vector objects of different configurations and rasterized objects. Nothing works. When I press Free Transform Tool and go to bounding box corner it become rotate or resize tool. When I click a little bit inside the bounding box and hold Command Key (I tried many keys and without keys) it just moves the whole object, it did not select just one point that I need. Envelope Mesh does not work for the same reason, but I do not need mesh tool. I have Illustrator 13.02, Mac OS 10.4.11
The Free Transform Tool functions exactly as the main selection tool. Please help.

I STILL cannot get this to work. I have tried everything suggested in this thread. I have followed the directions in the help menus explicitly. I have tried grouping, ungrouping. I have tried it on type, on type changed to outlines, on simple rectangles. Without success.
When I try to use the free transform tool and hover over a corner of the bounding box, I get either a double-headed corner arrow, a rotation arrow, or a move arrow. Using the first two, dragging the point and then holding down the control/command key results only in a scaling of the object.
Should I restart? Should I re-install? What should I do?

  • Illustrator CC Free Transform and Snapping

It seems that in CC the Free Transform tool does not snap to grid when resizing (for example) a rectangle. If I have "Snap to Grid" turned on, it only is taking effect with new objects getting drawn. Am I understanding this correctly? If I draw a rectangle, and want to reshape/resize it to fit the grid, how do I do this? It's a bit embarrassing asking this question, but CC seems to have changed some things from CS6.

I may have found a solution.
I called a buddy of mine to help tackle this with me.
Turns out, I'm trained to use the Free Transform tool in order to resize objects (and this has always worked in the past, that's what I've always done...hit the "E" key and then resize the object).
NOW, you're not supposed to use the Free Transform tool for precise snapping (which, I...I don't even have words for, because there's no reason to remove the actual option of wanting a precise move (resize) to be made...so dumb).
In order to precisely resize objects (with Smart Guides on), you must first make sure you are showing your bounding box (an option I previously had hidden 95% of the time because I hated looking at it).  So View > Show Bounding Box.  Then, with your regular ol' Selection Tool (V), you select the object, then hover over the anchor point and it will allow you to resize with the Smart Guides (and it works as well as it USED to work).
The stupid thing is this works exactly the same way as the Free Transform tool...so, I guess, the Free Transform tool is now relegated to performing transforms only when you want to ignore precision altogether (which for me...is never).  I'd like a refund for that portion of the software that I'm paying for...or something.  I don't get it.
Anyway, overly long story short.  Turn on your bounding box, use your selection tool to resize (instead of hitting E and using the free transform tool) and your resizes/transforms will align to your grids, guides and in accordance with the smart guides.

  • Free transform trouble

I cut a 6x4 piece of newspaper into small pieces & spread them face down on a flatbed scanner.
On top of the pieces I put a matte black piece of paper and scanned.
In photoshop I selected, and put each small piece onto its own layer. So each layer had a small piece of newspaper on a transparent background.
Im trying to unite the pieces back to their original state in Photoshop.
Problem: When I rotate one of the images on a layer in FREE TRANSFORM it gets distorted also with the Rotate command. I have seen many tutorials on Free Transform, tried everything, have a good idea how to use itI think. .Please Help

    Andy,
Unfortunately, Photoshop cannot do the CSI magic of taking broken pieces of glass or torn up messages and magically reassemble them. And it would be time consuming to do this as you're attempting with just Photoshop.
My recommendation would be to take the actual pieces, turn them over and assemble them by hand, use a low tack tape to hold them in place and refine their alignment. Then carefully place the reconstructed result onto a flatbed scanner. Scan at a high resolution, touch up the edges in Photoshop and save.
Hope you're not talking about shredder-size pieces...

  • Edit  / Free Transform image ( NOT PATH!)

I would like to do an edit / free transform to resize a layer in my image. I want to do this WHILE LOOKING AT a round path that I have created.
No problem in photoshop 7 , just turn on the path, select the image layer that I want to resize, edit/free transform and I can shrink the image while looking at the circular path to see how the image fits within the path.
In CS3, when i try to do an edit / free transform, instead of resizing the image, it wants to RESIZE THE PATH FOR SOME REASON. No, no, no. Leave the path alone. I want to SEE the path, but I do not want to resize the path. I want to resize the image while looking at how it fits within the path.
The only way that I see to resize the image is to turn off the path so I can no longer see the guide that i am using to determine the final image size / position. Obviously a major malfunction.
Hopefully, there is an easy workaround out there? Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    ...and another thing.
If you use the ctrl HTH workaround mentioned previously in this thread, it doesn't work for the situation where I need it the most.
I open an existing image with a circular path. I "paste in" an image from an email. What I used to do in photoshop 7 was edit free transform and i could freely shrink the image EVEN THOUGH THE PASTED IMAGE WAS LARGER (OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF) THE CURRENT IMAGE. The free transform would shrink the image to within the boundaries, then shrink further inside the path as needed. So Charles, you can see that the result of the CRTLHTH would be to size only the visible portion of the pasted image within the path. No, I need to size the WHOLE PASTED IMAGE even if it is outside the boundaries when pasted. Any workarounds appreciated. Maybe a CTRLPQHTH or something like that?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Free transform tween not working

This is another common problem that's driving me up the wall:
    - At 0 frames, I draw a blue square with no border.
    - I insert a keyframe on the 10th frame, then I move the
square a short distance and stretch it with the free transform
    tool.
    - I create a motion tween between the two frames.
Now by all rights, I should see the square gradually move and
stretch. But all Flash does is animate the motion of the square and
show the end result of the stretch. There's no transformation in
between. How can I fix this?

or - convert it to a symbol forst - then create 2nd keyframe,
use free transform tool and aply
Motion tween. You are making the mistake of using the wrong
tween for the wrong object or the right
    tween for the wrong shape.

  • Free Transform multiple objects...

It would be very nice to have the ability to select multiple layers/objects and free transform them about their respective orientation points rather than one, shared point.
For example, I am creating a large grid of items that are all in 1" X 1" squares and get them all spaced correctly on the gird, only to find out that each one needs to be increased slightly in size, BUT keep them centered in their respective squares. But the way I currently do it, I have to go item by item adjusting the sizes individually. A better option would be to be able to select all the objects, check a box that says "Transform by individual Orienation Point" and then go about resizing the one free transform box and having each object transform about their own orientation point, thereby saving me a tremendous amount of time and work.
The odd thing is, this feature has already been implemented (in a roundabout way) in InDesign already (here), you would think it would have found its way into Photoshop by now.
Feel free to let me know if I am missing something that is already implemented? Thanks!

So all your squares need to be upscaled by precisely the same amount? You can can record an Action that will perform the scale on the first. Then just re-run the Action with a shortcut on all the other layers, you can even automate the "move to next layer" step, so just hitting a single key will transform as many layers as you want one by one very quickly. Transform again (command shift T) will misregister them unfortunately.
Another option is for you to have set the squares up as instanced Smart Objects (if they are all the same). Then scaling one object in Image Size will scale them all instantly.
What you asked for is an interesting request, but its hard to see how it would be useful generally.
