CS3 Menu Freezes

Hi,
I am attempting to have the default button activate after a pre-determined time if the operator does nothing. I am using Encore CS3 and have set the motion menu duration to 10 seconds and the menu end action to play chapter one. This works in preview but playing the DVD from the hard drive the menu freezes and no navigation is possible. Am I doing something wrong or doesn't this work in CS3?
Glyn

Glyn,
What is your Menu's End Action set to?
Do you have any Overrides set anywhere?
You might want to post some screen-caps of your Menu, with that Button highlighted, and the Properties Panel showing.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • IMac (2008) OS10.6.8 - Main menu freezes when running more than one application at a time.  Apple and 3rd party applications - all freeze the main menu.  Safe mode seems to work OK. Tried repairing permissions - didn't work.

For the past 60 days I've experienced Main Menu freeze when running more than one application at a time.  iPhoto, Preview, Text Edit, Epson Scan, Firefox and Thunderbird are the apps I use almost daily.  No matter what I do, when more than one is running they will freeze the Main Menu (top of the screen).  I've tried booting is Safe Mode and I don't seem to have a problem.  I've tried several suggestions from repairing permission (DiskUtility) to eliminating specifis login items.  Nothing works. I've posted this issue on the Apple forum several times and no one else has experienced this problem.  I hesitate to take my iMac to the Apple Store or a private Apple repair service until I've exhausted all of my options.  Do I have any more options?

Question:  Everytime an app crashes I have the option to report it to Apple - which I usually do.  But I've NEVER reported a Main Menu freeze because it never asks me to
There's really no need to submit to Apple, it's just a round file cabinet on the other end, especially with 10.6 or earlier.
This sure sounds like a resource problem...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup - Windows 7

    Hello,
Recently Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes when I launch it on my Windows 7 (64 bit) computer. The splash screen appears but then it just stops working (usually on initializing Tools). It then asks to exit or search for help.
I have read several things so far. To fix it I tried:
    - disabling the TWAIN plugin
    - resetting all tools
    - deleting the Photoshop preferences file.
    - deleting my printer from the control panel (some others said printer drivers could cause it)
But all of these did not help. Please let me know how I could fix this. It is not nice having a deadline and not being able to guarantee Photoshop will work.

    Thank you for your replys!
@Mylenium: I have not recently changed the graphics driver, anyway, this post will contain some more detailed information.
Since the system does not hang (it is only PS) I could take a screenshot of it:
    And yeah, the message from the event log was very helpful indeed, I should have looked it up earlier ^^;

  • Problems with Bridge CS3 crash freeze and burn

    Hi,
    I am running Bridge CS3 version 2.1. 100 on a MacBook Pro 3
    Intel Core Duo
    2.4 GHz, 2GB ram
I am having some serious Bridge issues. My problems have ranged from it just being very sluggish and slow to Bridge not applying a label to random crashes.
So far today here are the issues:
"Operation Cannot be completed, an unknown OS error has occurred"
    "EventHandler:2976"
Will not apply a label when using the command key or from the tool bar menu
Not responding when quitting from icon in the dock
    freezes when renaming a file
unexpectedly quit while cropping an image in PS CS3
Things I have tried to resolve this:
shift-alt-command and reset all preferences and purged cache
changing the thumbnails preferences to only process 50mb or smaller files
    create small thumbnails
(as a former pc user) I have restarted multiple times...
    Things I have not tried:
    rebuilding OS
    uninstall reinstall
    throwing laptop in bathtub
The files I am working on range in size from 4 mb up to 400 mb .psd files
    Any ideas?

I can't use Bridge CS3 anymore. It freezes on my screen and the only way to close it is with task manager. Had problems with it the first time I loaded it...a full version of CS3, no upgrade. Spoke with 2 Adobe technicians who tried to help, but being a believer in Murphy's Laws I decided to bypass their suggestions which I had already tried.
The best viewer alternatives to Bridge are:
-Fast Stone Image Viewer is shareware and handles .psd files along with RAW, TIFF, JPG, etc. Go to their site an look for yourself. It was so good I sent them the suggested contribution. Adobe could learn a lot from them.
-Use Adobe Lightroom as a viewer and to do preliminary editing before launching the file into CS3. Adobe got it right in Lightroom...how come not in bridge CS3?
-Nikon View NX is good but doesn't show .psd files.
Nikon's Capture NX is a reasonable alternative to CS3 if you get fed up with Adobe. Or go back to PS Elements!
Finally, some lecturing Photoshop gurus have called Bridge "JUNK...you get what you pay for." Correct.
Benefits of JUNK sofware is that you explore alternatives and can be surprised at what's available out there.
Conclusion: Bridge CS3 is meant to be a "bridge" to many PS products, but for me it's a "bridge to nowhere." Make it simple, guys.

  • Windows CS3 Programs Freeze When Opening Files

Windows CS3, all programs freeze when trying to open files by going through the file menu.
Able to open files when navigating with windows explorer then right clicking on file and choosing "open with"
Windows XP Professional SP3, 4 Gb Ram Quad Core Processor.
Have uninstalled and reinstalled CS3 (Design Premium)
Have deleted photoshop settings file and tried using photoshop.
Any time I try to open a new file or existing file by going through the file menu the program freezes and must be terminated using the task manager.

    Erika,
I wish you had posted that last night. LOL I'm glad it worked for you and I will tell anyone who has this problem to try that before they try my fix. I was starting to have other problems like inDesign corrupting images.
    Here's how I fixed it,
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO RISK HAVING TO REFORMAT YOUR PC.
    1. Backup entire pc
    2. Deactivate Creative Suite 3 (or whatever application you are having a problem with)
    3. Uninstall problem application or suite, then uninstall everything by adobe.
    4. Search PC for all folders and files with "adobe", no quotes, in the name.
    5. Delete all folders and files with "adobe", no quotes, in the name.
    6. Restart PC
    7. Run ccleaner and also run the registry fix.
    8. Restart PC.
    9. Backup registry.
    10. Scan registry for "adobe", no quotes. Delete every instance of "adobe", no quotes making sure the reference is truly "adobe" and not something else.
    11. Restart PC.
    12. Install adobe suite or application.
    13. Install any other adobe application you may need.
    Worked for me, but
I DO NOT   RECOMMEND THIS UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO RISK HAVING TO REFORMAT YOUR PC.

  • Bookmark menu freezes up when I try to delete or transfer bookmarks to another folder

Last March, I transited from a Mac-based XP to a new desktop with Win7. FF was working fine and I was backing up my bookmarks with Xmarks/Sync.
I used XMarks/Sync for the transfer of my bookmarks in the new machine and I upgraded from FF9 to 11. I did not create any new add-ons.
All appeared normal except that in upgrading to 12 soon after, I found that I lost the Bookmarks organizer. This was a handicap as I used it frequently to tidy up my bookmark folders. I was forced to resort to a click-and-drag method to achieve the same result and this is when I discovered that this was “freezing” the bookmarks menu list (on the LHS of FF page display). Once I had moved or deleted one item I was unable to do it again. I tried to release the blockage by moving the cursor over the page or over the header bar, it seemed to work once or twice then no more.
I had to wait several minutes between each bookmark transfer or deletion. I found that by logging off & on FF, I could remove the waiting but doing that non-stop on a large scale started causing Internet problems and besides, the unfreezing of the bookmarks stopped working with that also eventually.
I really do not know what to do.
Uninstalling and re-installing FF12 did not help. I only have 4 basic add-ons like dictionary, translator and Pop-up blocker. I use AVG "do-not-tack".
It seems to me that whenever I make a change to my bookmark list, FF is “waiting” for something else to complete it (i.e.: Foxmark/Sync?) and it is that unknown feature which causes the lengthy hanging. I am probably wrong but I really do not know where to turn for help at this point.
Anyone PLEASE? Thank you in advance.

Thank you cor-el for your comprehensive response, I have began to follow through each step sequentially and the first link already disabled half of my add-ons, which is fine with me. I do not think I will miss them.
Since FF works fine except for the bookmarks freezing, I found one option which seems to target that perfectly so I will proceed with this one first and hope that it will take care of the problem.
    Great support work, thanks again,
    Arlette

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses).  I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything.  When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears.  However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar.  I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1.  Nothing works.  The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today.  Go figure.
Edit:  I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects().  The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function).  There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative.  All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related.  I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start.  That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit:  The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking.  I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report.  Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended - freezes after few minutes

    Greetings.
Ive recently decided to give Photoshop CS3 a try. However, i am experiencing urecoverable crashes (Windows freezes, have to restart the pc) when performing various actions. It seems to be happening only when something is going on in/with the document window, or when any modifications are made to the opened image. Using menus and other interface elements doesnt seem to cause any problems. The crashes usually happen a few minutes after the software has loaded.
    Specifications:
    Intel Core2Duo 3,16GHz
    2GB RAM
    GF 8800GTS
    WindowsXP SP2
    All latest drivers

    >i'm not sure what you mean when you say "crashes". is it locking up? ending or what? just photoshop or your whole system?
As already said, the display freezes and the whole system becomes unresponsive. I can see the mouse and everything that was on screen prior to crash, but i cannot do anything.
    >you mean the whole system is frozen? NOTHING else works?
    Indeed.
    >If you computer is locking up to the point that your mouse does not move then you are simply having hardware issues or driver issues on a low level. It may only happen when using PS, but that is simply because PS is asking something of your system that the other programs don't.
Then it seems it would be best to ask on nvidia/graphic card specific forums.
I have also downloaded Photoshop CS2, same thing as with CS3. I am going to try CS1 as well, but im guessing it will be the same. Photoshop 7.0 works without any problems.
In any case, thank you for your time.

  • Drop down menu freeze

For the last few weeks, my (mid-2007) iMac, with10.7.5 Lion, has been experiencing "freezes". It typically happens when
I'm mousing over an item in a drop-down menu. I then can't quit or restart unless I use the power button. In safe-boot mode,
it doesn't seem to happen, but that disables the built-in speakers, and more. Tech tools and disk utility find no troubles. Any ideas?

  • CS3 DW freezes recreating site cache

I have a brand new iMac (2GB RAM) and just installed CS3
yesterday. I imported my old sites (exported to .ste files from my
PC) and when I go to point DW to my site's files on my local
fileserver (Windows server) all seems to go well until DW starts
recreating the site cache. It counts all the files in the site,
then on about the 2nd or 3rd file it freezes. I've deleted all the
sites I've created and tried to recreate one at a time, but still
no joy. Anyone else seen this?
    Thanks,
    Wm

    Wm,
DW could be choking on a particular file. Try moving all of
    your files
to a different folder to see if you can open the site. If so,
    then start
moving them back 1 folder at a time to try to isolate the
    problem.

  • Photoshop CS3 suddenly freezing when Saving

Can someone help me? I've been running photoshop cs3 successfully up until yesterday when after working on layers and cropping etc, i go to SAVE and suddenly it freezes up. I've got 4 RAM, plenty of space on my harddrive. (i use external drives) I did a few small steps yesterday under preferences, and even uninstalled an reinstalled. Still doing same thing. Any advice? thank you.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)

  • Photoshop cs3 installation freezes

I have purchase photoshop cs3 and dreamweaver. Dreamweaver installed with no problems but when I tried to install photoshop everything looks good until the installation gets to 8.46% it freezes during shared components. Tried cleaning up components and re installing, many times, same result.

If you bought the download from Adobe directly you can go to the My Adobe link on their site.
    Otherwise:

Make sure to follow their instructions to the letter.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 menu icons not displaying

I just recently reinstalled my OS X and CS3 Suite with the original CDs because there were some issues with Illustrator unexpectedly closing before it had even opened the desired file. The reinstalls went without problem on all applications in the suite except Dreamweaver; the application menu icons are now replaced "broken image link" icons, and my ftp connect button has disappeared as well.
Here is a screen shot of what I'm looking at in the Dreamweaver interface:
    http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e120/wbelyea/Screenshot2011-04-28at123001PM.png
I have tried repairing/reinstalling the application by itself and the entire suite, but I am still getting the same result, and only in Dreamweaver.
I have also tried clearing the .plist file and cache, but that hasn't helped either.
Has anyone heard of this happening before? I've had a difficult time finding anything similar on the forums.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes that could definitely be the root of the issue. Put your OSX disc or disc that came with your Mac and boot up to that.  Run the disk repair utility from the menu at the top of the screen (you don't need to re-install OSX).  See if it can be fixed.
And just a friendly reminder, make a backup of really important data before doing too much more.
