CS3: Nav bar won't display in Dreamweaver

I'm really new to Flash CS3 and I've created a nav bar with
rollover text buttons. The button links work but the color changes
don't. The big problem, however, is I'm not really sure how to best
move the SWF file over to Dreamweaver. I saved the file, published
the file, and then I exported the SWF file into the Dreamweaver
library. When I drag the file onto my DW page, it's a big gray
square.
What is the optimal method for moving a Flash file into DW?
Do I move it as an image file or a movie file? Is there a ritual
dance I should perform to have the actual image and its buttons
appear on the DW page?
Thanks for any help,
Kathy

Which half? The top half? The left half? 8)
Code would help. But you may not like the answer....

  • I think I crashed my Finder - Menu bar won't display, Finder windows either

    Help!
I attached a new external HD yesterday (a Western Digital MyBook) to use as the Time Machine disk. Started a brand new backup and went out. When I got back to the house, about 14 of 250 GB had backed up but the system had hung -- no amount of key presses got anything working -- it was just hung, stuck, dead. Against my better judgment I switched off the power strip everything is plugged into and re-booted.
System came back up, but when I click the Finder or Trash icons in the dock, nothing happens. I've also got no menu bar, unless an app is running -- then I have that app's menus but not the finder ones. Also, icons for internal HD, both external HDs, MobileMe disk, etc -- don't display on the desktop and there's no way to get at them, it appears.
Is there some sort of bootup routine I can try or do I need to re-install Leopard? The Time Machine backup started over and seems to be progressing normally. If I let this finish, will I be able to restore my system that way?
    Thanks everyone...
    -- Scott

And, I just answered my own question. I repaired the disk permissions (for my internal HD) with Disk Utility and now everything is back to normal. I wiped the External HD and started the Time Machine backup again and so far, so good...
    Should anyone find this useful...

  • Menu bar won't display date

Yes, I have checked the 'diplay date and time in menu bar'option in system preferences; the time is there, but I really need the date as well. When I click on the time in the menu bar, I can see the date, but it's gray, as if it were inoperative.
Also, as long as you're reading, maybe you could suggest how I can change the preferences in mail to check spelling as I type; this is also gray...
    Thanks!

    Mike
How long has this method been available? is it a Tiger feature or has it been there all alongThis method was available in Panther although it was trickier to get right using the GUI. There was a different method in Jaguar and earlier, which used different format strings.
My finder modification dates have gone haywire after doing the menu date change.Where exactly are you viewing these dates?
I still have the problem after deleting the system prefs plist.I think Scott gave you the wrong preference list. These formats are stored in an invisible preference file: "~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist " (that's the one in your Home Library folder). But there are four formats. The Menu Bar Clock uses the second one, you may have inadvertently changed one of the others.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window followed by a return:
defaults read -g AppleICUTimeFormatStringsCopy and paste the result from the Terminal window to a post here. For reference, this is what I get:
    <pre>{
    1 = "h':'mm' 'a";
    2 = "d MMM, h':'mm':'ss' 'a";
    3 = "h':'mm':'ss' 'a z";
    4 = "h':'mm':'ss' 'a z";
}</pre>where you can see the second format is modified to have the date as well as the time. If any of #1, #3 or #4 differ from mine, I can give you a command to set it right.
You can find more detail in this User Tip: Date and Time in the Menu Bar (10.3, 10.4) and if you are interested in how things have changed, this is the equivalent for 10.2 and 10.1: Date and Time in the Menu Bar (10.2).

  • CS3 space bar won't work as hand tool

I have just set up a new computer -Vista Ultimate 64 bit and cannot get the spacebar to work as a hand tool in Photoshop. Please help! Thanks....Susan

Spacebar as hand tool is restored!! I think Dave was right about something interfering with it. The only thing that i changed on my system before this happened was that I unlocked my login in keychain access. Once I went back to keychain access and locked login again, did a restart and opened photoshop, the spacebar as hand tool was restored! So if anyone else has this problem, think back to what you did last on your system and revert to how it originally was. Hope this helps somebody out there

  • Indesign CS3 Tool Bar Won't Work

I am having a problem with my tool pallet not working as well as the above options when a file is open.  I can manually change back on each tool except the two pointers.  Is there a way to get these things to work in my preferences menu?  I am working in Vista on a pc.  Also, when a file is open and I select the selection tool (escape,v) and select an image, I can not change the size from the top menu either.

Best thing is to let the installer put it in the default location, but there are reports where the path isn't recognized because of the spaces or some such.
You can use the DOS name for the folder -- Progra~2 when that happens. There's a KB article -- let me see if I can find it.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331755.html is about installing on XP 64, but the information is the same.

  • Slicing an image to be used as a nav bar for html email

The html email that I've created renders as designed in most email clients.  It doesn't in Outlook 2007.  It was suggested that I slice an image for the nav bar so it displays horizontally as designed instead of vertically.
It's been a long time since I used slicing images in Photoshop.  It doesn't appear that Image Ready is there anymore.  I use Photoshop CS3.  Is there a straightforward document that could walk me through the steps to accomplish this?  Using the Photoshop "help" confuses the heck out of me and when I asked this question in the Photoshop forum, many looked at it but I've had no responses.  Or could it be done in Dreamweaver somehow?
The web version of the html email is:  http://www.theshimogaproject.com/email/riverrun-guests-email.html

You can't use DW to slice an image. Do you have Fireworks? It's really easy to do it in Fireworks, that's what I would use. If you need to use PhotoShop, a quick Google search, "slicing images in photoshop," return plenty of tutorials that you can choose from.

  • How to get externally made nav bar css into dreamweaver

How do I insert 'purecssmenu' made nav bar into dreamweaver? I have a zip file with just the interactive nav bar in it. There used to be an insert nav bar but that seems to have vanished in cs6 presumably because Adobe want you to use Spry!!!
I am completely new to this game but it is not helpful to be constantly told that you should learn coding.
I just want to make 1 tiny personal site. Any constructive help would be very much appreciated.

Sorry you're having such a terrible time not only getting the navbar to work, but interpreting the help here. (That's what it is... help, only you really didn't give us a lot to go on)
You need to do one of two things if you'd like people to stop "guessing" what's wrong with your page.
1.Upload your page to your server and post the URL here so others can download the source code and analyze it.
    or
    2. Copy and paste your ENTIRE page of code here so it can be seen, downloaded and viewed in someone else's Dreamweaver on their computer. Something like this:

  • How can I get Firefox 4 to correctly display CSS padding for a horizontal nav bar (works in most other browsers, incl. earlier FF)?

I have just coded a horizontal nav bar for a site with CSS rollover effects using a:hover and a: focus effects. There are no images, just HTML and CSS. The layout works beautifully in IE 6 - 8, Safari for Windows, Opera for Windows...and Firefox 3.X but behaves poorly in Firefox 4. I've hardly ever had problems with FF before. :(
    Here's the menu: http://sddlr01.hottubretailer.com/TestNav2.html
The rollovers extend below the height of the background div and the extra padding on the first and last li tag don't display correctly either. The page passes WebDeveloper toolbar CSS and HTML validation as well.
This is making me batty! Any help deeply appreciated!
    Thanks.
All CSS code is in the page for debugging purposes.

I do not understand what you mean with "the rollover will extend the full width of the background"

  • DReamweaver MX 2004 Nav Bar

As you will see from this question, I am a newbie at website
    construction.
I am working on developing a new site using Dreamweaver MX
2004. I have included a navigation bar, which seems to work OK
except for the "Down" mode. "Up", "over" and "Over when down" seem
to work OK, and links to new pages work too.
I expected that when I click on a button, it would turn to
the "Down" graphic, and then when the new page opens, it would also
    show the "Down" graphic.
That doesn't happen. Clicking on a button, shows the "Down"
graphic fleetingly, and in the new page which opens the "Up" button
shows. This seems independent of the browser - IE, Firefox etc.
Suggestions as to what is going on, and how to fix it would
    be gratefully received. Thanks
    Michael

The DW "Nav Bar" feature is a long-in-the-tooth antique,
    originally written
to support frames. It is only with frames where you will get
    the "down"
state of the buttons working properly. In all other cases,
    the Nav Bar is
an extreme example of bloated functionality that could
    otherwise be achieved
using simple image swaps on a series of button images, which
    is what I
recommend you do. Get rid of the old, and go with the 'new'.
Now - is your page a template controlled page?

  • Cs3 preview looks good but won't display some pictures online.

Using cs3.  My pages work fine in display but some .gif and .jpeg won't display once published.  Same in ie and mozilla.  http://www.cinnamonridgehomes.com/homeplans.html  Any ideas?

There should be 10 plans listed with pics on each.  I am only seeing 4 pics though all the plan names are there.  Same result on 3 different computers.  Are you seeing something different?

  • Account: All pages appear Blank, Nav Bar only displays - (Ref: CE-1694)

    Status: Investigating
    Affects: Some Users
Description:  Some members have reported logging in to Tagged and seeing blank pages throughout their account, with only the Nav Bar at the top of their account visible.
We've verified this issue on some accounts, and the issue has been reported to our engineering team for investigation.
If you're experiencing this issue, please click 'ME TOO'.

This is the url I typed into the URL portion of the target section (this works): http://damia4db06:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=570:69:17736358312604522197::NO::P69_RETURNPAGE,P69_HELPFORPAGE:2,2
After changing the target option to Page in this Application and directly typing 'P69_RETURNPAGE,P69_HELPFORPAGE' into the Set these items field and '&APP_PAGE_ID.,&APP_PAGE_ID.' into the With these values files (without the quote marks in both), the resulting url is:
    http://damia4db06:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=570:69:18148753059676044560::NO::P69_RETURNPAGE,P69_HELPFORPAGE:2%252C2
It goes to page 69 but does not pass the values correctly. P69_RETURNPAGE has the value 2%252C2 and P69_HELPFORPAGE is blank/null.
The flashlight display of the parameter/value pairs shows both values to be & amp;APP_PAGE_ID. (Ignore the space between the & and amp; in this message. In the flashlight values fields all the characters are contiguous.)

  • Flash Nav Bar in Dreamweaver

I want to create an animated nav bar in Flash, that will
remain in the left frame of my Dreamweaver doc while it opens pages
in the main frame. It looks like the proper way to do it is assign
the links to the buttons in Flash, but how do you tell Flash which
frame to load the page into in the html doc?

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...

  • Using a nav bar with Dreamweaver in Catalyst

I am trying to create just a navigation bar in Catalyst like you might in flash with animated rollovers. Then export the swift to use in a dreamweaver set of pages.
The problem I am having is trying to get the page destination set up correctly. All I can find in Catalyst is Go To URL, which would be ok but it will not let me remove the Http//
So if I fire this up in Dreamweaver, embed it, and test. It looks like a virus because its trying to go outside the parent directory of the site.
Is there a way to make relative paths, I guess is my question?

In the current version, no. If you have Flash Builder installed ( or just load up the trial), you could go into code and change the urls in there manually. One word of caution is the Flash Catalyst files tend to larger files than one can create in Flash Professional alone. If you are just using Flash Catalyst to create a nav bar, you might be better to develop it in Flash Professional. But, if you need to prototype it fast and get your client to sign off on the design, then Catalyst is a prefect solution.
