CS3 on mac - horrible performance

Can anyone on a G5 Mac, or any non-intel mac for that matter,
confirm my findings: CS3 is running slow and crappily compared to
CS2. Pull down menus are horrible (like the site list menu), just
bad. Aside from Photoshop CS3 taking longer to save files, all the
other CS3 programs are the same speed or slightly better, yet
Dreamweaver is bad. Bad enough for me to go back to CS2 so I can
actually get some work done.
I won't even mention some of the other quirks that have
changed like color pickers.
Am I alone? I almost stupidly bought a new Mac Pro just to
get my speed back that I used to have before I wised up and went
back to CS2.

I have the latest Wacom drivers for my model - it's the same driver for all Intuos and Cintiq models. Besides, as I said - the performance is perfect in all other software, except Flash. And also as I said - in Flash CS6 the performance is better than CS5.5, but not better than CS3... It is acceptable though, because it's rare that I will draw such fast lines - in my case I can see a clear difference in performance if I draw fast or slow. I have tried to compare results on my older MacBook Pro and I get similar results...

  • Anyone using a 12 Core Mac Pro? I have HORRIBLE performance issues .. Help!

After the latest 10.7.4 Mac OS X update I have extremely horrible performance issues with AE ... and they were not so great before the update.
It is still stabilizing ... but an 1:19 clip in SD is taking 12 HOURS TO analyze and stabilize. !!!
The 12 cores are barely being used and this problem has been an issue since I purchased the suite over a year ago.
Does anyone else have problems using AE on their 12 CORE MAC PRO?
REPLY ONLY IF YOU HAVE A 12 CORE MAC PRO PLEASE.
There must be a problem because since the update ... Adobe Encore is PERFECT .. and ALL 12 CORES MAX OUT and the encoding is quick!!
I also have major problems between PP and AE using Dynamic link .. and slow renders in PP.
Everything else works fine .. other apps / other vendors.
    I am calling Adobe today.

Only half of my hyperthreaded processors are active when using AE "Warp Stabilizer". This issue was addressed before in the Forums. There was no solution. I dont' know if it is any better in CS 6.
Also the automatic saving of all linked compositions while using the dynamic link feature bewteen PP and AE causes huge inoperatable waiting times .. unbearable. My guess is that the new "Global Performance Cache " fixes this ... which I consider update to a terrible problem .. but they sell it as a feature ( Ill go into that later.
    Question:
What RAID card are you using?
Do you use the Warp Stabilizer?

  • Who uses Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac OS X?

    Howdy,
I'm curious to know how many of you here use Dreamweaver CS3
on the Mac? Not bothered bout you Windows users, I've used it on
there and it's fine (although bulky and slow).
I made the switch to mac a long while back, and coming from
Windows and HomeSite (oh how much I love homesite!!!) the natural
move was to go to Dreamweaver. So I bought a retail copy (along
with PhotoShop CS3) for quite a bit of cash, and I don't use CS3 as
its pretty damn awful on OSX!
By the way, I NEVER touch the WYSIWYG part of Dreamweaver
(wish I could delete all WYSIWYG stuff from it, as that what slows
    it down I'm sure)
To name a few bugs (I'd like to know if you experience these
    too):
    1. It's very slow and bulky, I mean just moving the cursor to
a new line in code view is slow, just doesn't feel good. It
actually feels like its about to crash on me any minute! And I'm on
a 6GB 8 cOre 2.8GHz Mac Pro... so its not my Mac :)
    2. I set my toolbars up to my own preference (i.e. I like to
have the "Standard" menu showing and the "Document" one not) then
suddenly out of the blue "Standard" has gone and the "Document" one
is there. Sometimes I boot up and all is good, open a document and
it disappears (along with the line numbers on the left), right
clicking says its still there but it isn't.
    3. Certain folders on the left file view REFUSE to close! I
collapse them, open another folder up (uncollapse) and what do you
know, the other folder pops open again. Close and open dreamweaver
its open again... I've never manged to close this particular
folder, dreamweaver really likes it for some reason?
There are plenty more, but they are the main ones!
The unfortunate thing is I cannot find a good alternative on
OS X for syntax highlighting, the fact that HTML elements are
coloured differently is invaluable to me, and thats one of the main
things I love bout Dreamweaver (not to mention the global replace
feature that other IDE's don't include)?
Bring HomeSite to OS X is what I say :)
What is your experience of DW CS3 on OS X? Does it all work
correclty for you? Or are you annoyed by it too?

I plotted my escape from Microsoft for years before I finally
    knew
enough about software and the technologies I was using and
    had
sufficient money to make the leap. (I went for a top of the
    line MacBook
    Pro.)
On the negative side, I've learned that the Mac isn't a free
    ride.
Upgrading to Leopard was a wrestling match, as was upgrading
    to Adobe
Creative Suite (largely because certain sales people sold me
    the wrong
upgrade package - twice). I'm also bothered by a number of
    annoyances
that sometimes remind me of my Windows PC.
However, I'm working with a far greater variety of software
    programs
than I ever had on my PC, and the annoyances seldom turn into
    the minor
catastrophes that made life with M$ living Hell.
So far, Dreamweaver is working fine for me. The biggest
    annoyance is the
fact that it likes to jump back and forth between "Spaces,"
    though
Spaces remains my favorite Leopard feature.
I'm sorry you're having problems with yours - and I was
    shocked to hear
that that Rosetta crap also applies to Dreamweaver. I'd never
    heard of
Rosetta until I had some problems with my browsers. Enabling
    Rosetta
fixed the problem, but, sheez - all that Rosetta business
    sounds like
something that came straight from Bill Gates' living room. So
    I'm not
sure if the problem ultimately rests with Adobe, Mac OS X or
    both.
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the situation to
    advise you.
However, if you live near a sizeable Apple store, schedule an
appointment with their "Mac Geniuses." I've gone in to see
    them at 7
a.m. a couple times - free of charge - and they were a big
    help.
If you're using Leopard, I assume you've already installed
    the two
updates - 10.5.1 and 10.5.2. Ironically, the second update
    appeared to
create one of the very problems it's supposed to eliminate.
    (Whether or
not it's actually a problem is a matter of debate in the Mac
    community;
it hasn't actually caused any problems for me.)
You might also try posting some questions on Apple's forums -
    http://discussions.apple.com.
If nothing works, and you do go back to M$, I certainly
    wouldn't hold it
against you. If Apple and/or Adobe don't have their act
    together, then
you can't blame people for returning to a platform that
    works. However,
I have much greater confidence in both Apple and Adobe to fix
    their
problems in the long run than I do in Microsoft. Even if you
    get
Dreamweaver to work on your PC, will your other software
    programs work?
In summary, I've learned that there's no free ride in
    computing. But I
still prefer my Mac to M$, and I don't believe I've heard as
    many
complaints about Dreamweaver on a Mac as I have about Vista.
    But do
    whatever's best for you.

  • Adobe CS3 and Mac Pro

For professionals using Adobe CS3 on Mac Pro about how much RAM is needed to run all 6 programs together efficantly? I'm looking into upgrades and really need some advice- Any out there to give?
    Thanks,
    Port

It depends. If you work with files greater than 1GB, almost as much RAM as you want/need (8GB would be good).
    What do you have now?
Are you use to using a large fast scratch RAID to help?
The more programs running (and not just CS3 but others as well) the more the merrier.
Same applies to whether you want 2.66 or 3.0 or 8-core model.

  • Another "horrible performance after upgrading to Lion" post

    Hi,
Sorry for yet another "my computer has horrible performance after upgrading to Lion" post.  I did search the forum before posting.
I have a relatively new Macbook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 2.8 MHz Intel i7 CPU.  I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, then Lion to 10.7.2.
The first time I upgraded, I no longer had my user account, so restored from Time Machine back to SL.  After a month or so, I hoped Apple had fixed the bug, so I redownloaded and reinstalled, and this time the upgrade succeeded.
Ever since the upgrade, my MBP runs like a dog.  I get the spinning beach ball constantly, across all range of applications, both Apple and 3rd party.  Occasionally it doesn't wake up from sleep (close, open lid) and I have to kick it in the head by holding down the power button.
I've tried booting into the recovery partition, running disk utility, and repairing disk and permissions.  I've read elsewhere (Google hit) that doing a completely clean install fixes the performance issues (for those users anyway).
I know this is a fairly generic post, but any advice on how to maximize machine performance under Lion, or should I revert to Snow Leopard?  Do I really have to wipe the disk, install fresh, restore all non-OS files (don't accidentally wipe a required OS file), then reapply the 10.7.2 maintenance?  Yuck.
    Thanks,
    Scott

try an SMC reset if you are not seeing any weird spikes in Activity Monitor and you've deduced that none of your third party drivers or apps are interfearing with the way lion works.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac crash

I want to create a tree panel in my extension. I do a test with "<mm:treecontrol>" and "<mm:treenode>" tags on Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac.
There are only two nodes in the testing tree panel, Dreamweaver crash instantly when I try to drag the node, but it works well on Dreamweaver CS4 for Mac although the tags don't support drag.
Is it a Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac bug?
Does anyone have solution to resolve this issue?
    Thanks
    Simon

I've been a Mac convert for about 2 years now. Right now, I'm
running DW CS3 on an Intel iMac and it runs beautifully. On my
Powerbook G4 (1.33 GHz PPC G4 and 2 GB of ram) the performance is
slightly lacking. One thing to be wary of with adobe products -
they can be memory hogs. Photoshop is especially notorious for
    this.
Also, the more you have installed on a Mac laptop, the slower
it will run. Mine used to take a few minutes to boot because of all
the programs I had installed, and nothing was starting up with the
machine. After a format and clean install it runs like new.
That is something for you to consider, if you have all the
necessary software to reinstall everything you want. I never turn
off any features in DW and I have only had a few buggy problems.
    Nothing major though.

  • Installing InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks

Installation of InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks
    This question is Not Answered.
    s c perks Oct 14, 2014 6:04 AM
    1. I have InDesign CS3, which I bought about 6 years ago, and installed on my MacBook Pro. I have now got a new Mac Pro running OS 10.9.5 Mavericks. When I bought the machine I asked Apple if I would be able to install my InDesign and they said there would be no problem. But it will not install. The intsllation fails every time near the end. It installs Bridge and one other components, both of which it calls shared components. But InDesign is not installed.
I went to the Adobe web site and looked up what to do. I got to a page that had my product on and it seemed to be telling make I must download an installer. When I clicked on this link, however I got a page with the following message:
    HTTP ERROR: 404 /support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
    RequestURI=/support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
I do not know what to do now.
    2. If I do download an installer (I did not need to do this when I first installed the programme on my lap top MacBook Pro 6 years ago, but just installed it from the disc), how do I get rid of the downloader afterwards, since I read somewhere, but cannot remember where, that I should get rid of the installer afterwards but that I should not put it in the trash bin?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
    Stephen Perks

Many thanks for your help. I will try this. After posting this question yesterday I contacted Adobe and was astonished to find that they do not sell InDesign and do not support it and that one can only upgrade to monthly or yearly rental of CreativeCloud. I'm afraid for me this is nonsense, and I consider it very bad practice on Adobe's part. I will have to go to QuarkExpress instead if I cannot install Indesign CS3, which I nearly did do 6 years ago, but after reading such good reviews of InDesign and got it. I wish now I'd got Quark! I appreciate your help.

  • Cut/Paste from Word to Illustrator CS3 for Mac suddenly not working

This issue regards Illustrator CS3 for Mac on a Mac Pro with 6 GB.
Exactly one week ago I created a number of Illustrator files by cutting charts from a Word 2008 document and pasting them into an Illustrator document.
In the past I have dragged the images (or clip art) or simply used Control-C or even Control-X, but by whatever method I opted for, getting the image from Word to Illustrator CS3 has not been a problem.
Yesterday I got a new chart and a request to replace an old image - one that I had created last week on Tuesday by the Drag/Drop or Cut/Paste method.   For reasons I can't begin to imagine the process simply won't work now.
I also find that if I simply select text in a Word Document, hit Ctrl-C and then try a Ctrl-V in Illustrator I don't get to see my text pasted in - ONLY if I already have a text block open and the cursor in place will I get to see the text copied over into Illustrator.  This is very strange and not at all how things have worked in the past - typically I would see the new Text Object just appear, and then I could move it to wherever I wanted.
I have opened up a number of old files that I know were created with copied text and also opened the associated Word files (earlier versions of Word) and again find that I can't copy text over, or even move images over - even though I clearly could do this before.  I have also tried entirely new files - also with no success.
I was at an Apple one-to-one session this morning and they were more than mystified by this.  I can Cut and Paste into Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I can't even cut and paste from Adobe Photoshop Elements into Illustrator CS3.   I can drag the Photoshop file (from the Finder window) into the Illustrator document and poof - get my image that way, but it's as an image only.  If the base image in question is a vector image or something else having a plurality of elements, I can't then select the elements in Illustrator to change their color, delete them, or otherwise play with them.
I have brought up a word document on another Mac system that also has Illustrator CS3 and find that it too can't drag/drop cut/paste between the two applications.   At Apple, we did confirm that such ability is operational in the new Illustrator CS4, but none of their store systems still have CS3 to provide yet a third system to test.
I have deleted my Illustrator CS3 preferences, tried flushing the p-ram, and of course run fix and repair permissions - no dice.
My Mac systems update daily and there is nothing in the main update log that shows anything for Adobe or Office (nor do I think there should be).  Adobe Update reports that everything is up to date, and I don't see a history file to know what might have changed in the last week.   Office also reports fully up to date and happy.
As I can cut and paste the images into an email for Mail and into Photoshop, I am fairly certain that it is NOT a Microsoft Office 2008 issue.  The fact that another Mac with Illustrator CS3 also can't cut and paste suggests that is is really not something personal to my main system.
It is almost as if this is some clandestine "update" intended to encourage me to buy Illustrator CS4.  Given that I bought Illustrator CS3 less than a year ago, I really am not eager to buy the new version.   The greeting on the Adobe Support page that CS3 is no longer the current version and therefore supported was most annoying.
I am really hoping that someone out there has an idea of what to try changing, removing and/or adjusting with respect to Adobe Illustrator CS3.

I tried the Select by Path option - can't believe I missed it - and found it made no difference.
I actually uninstalled and reinstalled the whole app.  When I tried to simply re-install (can't remember it's exact phrase) it got part way through and then demanded another disk - but I only have one DVD with the application - the extra DVD is for tutorials and it didn't accept that one either.  So I restarted that process and chose to completely uninstall.  Then reinstalled - hey with only my one disk - gee, just like the first time.   And then it seemed to work.
I was not aware of the save as PDF option - but yes I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac so that option is there - and it seems to work too.
There were of course a slue of updates, and I let them all proceed - but even with them all in place the system is fine and I can once again drag and drop / cut and paste things back and forth.   I just tried a text block and "The Quick Brown Fox" pasted in with a clipping mask about 10 times the size of the document, but other than that it was ok.
So I have things working again on my primary system.   Will try and figure out what's wrong with the other one - but a reinstall might be the easiest game there too.

    there is a significant problem.
I am unable to access any of my remote servers to upload
files to the sites I have built.
I was able to reinstall Dreamweaver 8 and it works fine with
    all the same setups
I've read a technote on a noted problem with Dreamweaver CS3

You can read the 10.5 technote here:

I have not experienced this problem. Try removing the DW CS3

BTW, what error you are getting when you try to FTP?

  • Premiere Pro CS3 for Mac quits when exporting

I'm using Premiere CS3 for Mac and I imported several mpeg footage I took with my Sony Cybershot camera. The videos are in 640x480, but when I opened a new project I choose 720x480 DV format. Then the videos were stretched to the DV size.
When I try to export my timeline, the render dialog shows 'compiling...' and nothing happens with the progress bar and Premiere is suddenly closed.
I took one of the videos and rendered it as Quicktime movie 720x480 in AFX, and then I created another timeline with this new video and the export worked fine.
I think the problem is the MPEG format that my CyberShot uses. Am I right?

    Yes.

MMHttp doesn't seem capable of HTTPS communication in

    When I do something like

I've only tried this on a trial version of DW CS3 for Mac.

Jeff, I appreciate your comment, so you haven't had any problem with using the painttools in CS 6 photoshop and the 3d type etc, in other words all the features that CS6 photoshop has.
I was thinking about buying the mac mini but was concerned how it works with CS 5 (which I have) I will have to take another look at the MiniMac server with the 3000 card. I do a lot of Digital Painting primarily Painter 12.2 but and would like to use the Painter brushes in CS 5 ( have not upgraded to CS 6.) My Imac is 6 years old and really is not fast enough.

    Erik,
Here it is always recommended to open/save AI documents from/to own harddisk, and to only copy from/to externals such as local server/whatever.
The reason is that with the latter, AI files tend to get corrupted sooner or later, so you may be lucky for a while but it hurts when your luck runs out.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:
