CS3 palette problem

Not sure if I'm missing something but my levels and curves dialogue windows seem to have
attached themselves to the top of the screen, I can't move them around as usual and it means I
can't see what I'm doing to the image. Have tried re-installing photoshop but no change!

I deleted the prefs within the adobe cs3 folder and it didn't work so I then deleted that
whole folder and now it works! Don't know how it changed in the first place or if its a bug but you fixed it.

Help please (not blather): Fix/Disable CS3 palette fade-in/fade-out

My other thread got clogged with lots of insults and useless comments.
For those of you who have a problem with slow fade-in/out of CS3 palettes, I am asking for possible solutions to this problem, thanks.
I am not asking for misdirection, insults, suggestions to get a new machine, etc, thanks.
I am courteously asking for anyone with a practical solution, including hacking the binary or whatever, to stop the useless fade-in/out of palettes on CS3.

Okay, I switched my primary Scratch drive over to a different IDE internal disk volume with 23 GB free. (Then I quit & restarted PS)
I have 2GB (max) RAM on the dual G4. 67% of installed RAM is assigned to PS.
Having the other Separate IDE Disk as the Scratch volume made No difference in the fade-in speed.
I also tried stuffing a heavy QT encode into the system, which takes 80% of both CPUs when running. This does make a bit of difference, perhaps 0.5 secs overall.
Opening a large-ish document in PS ( 580 MB ) causes the fade-in to slow down a little bit, perhaps by 0.5 seconds slower.
With this large image, trying BOTH Raptor and IDE internal hard disks for Scratch, made No difference in fade-in time. So, no way is the fade-in slowness due to the Scratch disk setup.
Except for the video card, my sys looks pretty much like Ramon's. I have never enabled Dashboard (CPU hog), and Spotlight is disabled on my Sys and Scratch volumes (same disk, separate partitions).
One more bit of info: the Fade-In always looks like it takes only two steps, (1) 50% opaque over desktop, (2) 100% opaque and ready. 2nd monitor is 1600x1200 x 24bit via PCI video card.
I have perhaps 150 font families installed under 10.4.11 and use Unsanity's FontCard, but most of my work images do not include any fonts.
Unless it's the Fonts, or the Video card (soon to be tested), I don't know what else it could be.
New Info: (Don't know why I didn't try this earlier, too tired at 2:30am...) I moved all my palettes over to my main monitor (AGP slot, ATI 9000 Pro on 1920 x 1200 Apple Cinema Display)... The fade-in is much quicker there; around 1.5 seconds to fade the palettes in.
Again it happens in two steps of fade, just faster than on the 2nd monitor. This leads me to believe its the video card, and perhaps the new 9700 AGP will fix this problem...
Also, the fewer the number of palettes open, the faster the fade-in on the main monitor... Looks like a simple "too much graphics to build, paint & fade" to me...

CS3 reinstall problem - asking for uninstalled CS4 beta

I have a PowerBook G4 with 1.5 Gb RAM running Mac OS 10.4.11. I have the CS3 Suite installed and last year downloaded a beta copy of Fireworks CS4. After using it a bit, I uninstalled Fireworks CS4 with the Adobe uninstaller.
I recently had a problem with Bridge and decided to uninstall and reinstall the software. I uninstalled Photoshop CS3 (in order to uninstall Bridge) and when I began to reinstall Photoshop, the installer ask me to insert the Fireworks CS4 disk! Since I don't have that disk, I hit cancel and the install terminated (I tried this multiple times and rebooted each time)
I then downloaded and ran Adobe's CS4 Cleanup app. It found NO CS4 apps to clean up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1) I uninstalled FW CS4
2) I uninstalled CS3
3) I ran Cleanup Script
4) I repaired permissions using Disk First Aid
5) I reinstalled CS3
The problems with Bridge remained (sluggish, won't display icons properly, won't show a preview image, won't operate the folder list, etc.).
So I called Adobe support. Unfortunately, because I am having problems installing CS3 and NOT CS4, support is NOT FREE. The rep was helpful though -- she pointed me to document number 331594 (Diagnosing Bridge problems) and told me to start there. I followed EVERY step . . . disable start-up scripts, reverted to original preferences, cleaned up the cache, disabled the folder windows, and the problems remain.
Guess I'll have to pay . . .
Lesson learned: don't trial Adobe software. That's when my problems began.

Premiere CS3 Reinstall Problem

I am currently running Windows XP Pro on a Matrox Axio system in which the CS3 Creative Suite was already installed for me upon purchase. As of late I've had problems with Quicktime (Premiere and After Effects no longer see it as a compatible format) and I was hoping that as a solution, I could reinstall Premiere and After Effects from the original discs.
This theory might work but when I get the disc to the Progress portion of the reinstall, it asks me to "insert CS3 Production Premium Disc 1 into drive \\prod\Adobeapps". I don't claim to be an expert but I just cannot figure out what the installer is asking me to do and I'm very frustrated. I tried a multitude of Quicktime-related fixes that didn't yield results and I was really hoping to try this particular fix to see if it works. Does anyone have experience with this error? If so, what was your method of bypassing it?
If this helps in any way, Quicktime stopped working with my system when one day Premiere couldn't get past the CompilerAIFF.prm during the initial program load. I went back a few hours on a system restore and when I got Premiere up and running again, Quicktime was no longer a viable option. I've tried totally reinstalling stand alone Quicktime (and I did use the Windows Installer Clean Up to remove iTunes and Quicktime before the reinstall) and I've tried repairing Quicktime in the Control Panel, and helped. In fact, attempting to repair Quicktime led to a "fatal error on install" and put me back where Premiere got hung up on the CompilerAIFF.prm again.
Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

8800GT palette problems?

I just received my 8800GT upgrade for my "original" Mac Pro. I had seen a couple of instances of the palette getting "screwed up" after a long period of time, which I thought might be a problem with heating (my 1900XT had all sorts of problems). Looking over the posts here, I saw a number of people with the exact same problem, a green-cyan color showing up in lines around the screen.
However, the problem seemed to go away and I hadn't seen it again. Until just now. My screen saver kicked in and when I shook the mouse to wake it up again, the palette problem was back.
Can anyone else with an 8800 confirm or deny this problem? I'm on a 1 GB dual 266 Mac Pro.

Icon page view:
Not that I want the image of the icon to actually change/scale in size....I visually see no page icons in my palette. The only way I can see the page icon is if I drag the bottom right corner all the way across my screen. Then they appear on the right hand side of the palette. If I only have the palette open half an inch or so it looks like I have no pages in my document.
Snapping closed:
This only seems to happen to my top dock. My other palettes in lower docks (stokes, color, swatches, etc...) do not snap closed.
I'll try to discribe the best I can since I don't know what is going on with my image. I have my palettes icon view only in 1 long skinny palette menu bar. Inside the long palette it is divided up. The top section is pages, links, layers. The next section is stoke, color, swatches, gradient. The next section is text, paragraph, chara styles, text wrap, glyphs.
I'm working in the icon only view of my palettes, but I've also tried icon and text view of the palettes. When I work with all palettes expanded they do not snap closed
Preferences:
Tried deleteing preferences to fix problems with no aveil. Just have to wait for an update I guess. Just weird because I work with 4 other designers who have not have as much problems as mine recently. Should I consider reintalling?

Viewing large Illustrator CS3 files problem

I use bridge to browse through previous work in created in Illustrator CS3.
Problem - when viewing these files in Bridge some files (whatever their dimensions) show as large thumbnails and others (with the same AI dimensions) are small and do not seem to stretch in Bridge?
Can anyone explain how to stretch the thumbnail in Bridge.

Sorted - I need to save the CS3 file with 'create pdf compatible file' checked in the options, and it then opens as a large thumbnail in bridge.

The same old Character Palette problem

Yep. I've got the same old Character Palette problem. Running Mac OS X 10.4.10, all the latest updates, checked the forums for all the help I could find, and tried everything, and still every **** time I sign in or come back from sleep, the character palette shows up!

InDesign CS3 Swatch Palette Problem

Hi,
I have an issue in InDesign where the "Pantone Solid Coated" library is covering any other colour book I am trying to work with, including CMYK etc. Also I have to change a colour from Process to Spot and then back to Process again to be able to name it. I havd to re-install the Creative Suite on a different computer to the one I used before, and that's when this started. I am using CS3 Design Standard on an Intel Mac 10.4.11
If anyone has a solution, please do let me know as i have to use the programs more than 8 hours a day!

Next time you can just copy the backups into the real locations and you won't

Bridge won't launch from CS3 - intermittent problem

Hi folks I dont think I am alone in experiencing this problem as a quick google threw up other sufferers but the suggested fix update everything at the Adobe website has not fixed the problem, so I am hoping that someone here can shed some light. Problem 1; Bridge will sometimes not open from CS3 - ie when I click on the icon , or if Bridge is set up to open automatically when CS3 opens, I sometimes get an error message that reads error 2:Photoshop is undefined. Line: 1 ->photoshop10.invoke bridge (false, false, ); When this happens Bridge will still open fine from the start menu, so it is not disastrous but is annoying because the keyboard shortcut <shift ctrl W > won't work either (to close a file in CS3 and bring the Bridge window up on screen) - a similar error message is received when using Shift Ctrl W as when trying to open bridge. Problem 2; the fly out menus will not remain on screen. Eg if I have a layer and want to access the blend mode menu - if I click on the menu in the layer palette the menu appears for a second and then disappears. Problem 3: If I try to create a new action as soon as I click on the "new action" in the actions palette the word "scripts" appears multiple times in the action - it just produces line after line of this until I click the button to stop the action. Problem 4 (may be related to problem 2 ?); in the crop tool - I can't get the cursor to remain in the width and height boxes - so I can't control the dimensions of the crop (which is currently stuck at my last size of 3 x 4 cm - not much use to man nor beast). Most frustratingly of all - these are all intermittent problems. Things I have tried - updating CS3 and bridge from Adobe site, opening CS3 and bridge before any other program, not running any other program at the same time, uninstalling and reinstalling (after disabling all antivirus etc stuff), but so far nothing works. I am using a 1 year old Dell PC, lots of RAM and hard drive available, only working from internal drives, no new hardware or software loaded (although there might have been a windows update - but this occurred after the problems started and has not noticeably changed things). Windows XP pro. Recently done whole system scan for viruses etc and no problems found. Please help, this has been going on since I loaded CS3 a few months ago and it is driving me nuts. Amanda - One consistent recommendation that has fixed a lot of problems, especially if program worked before, and does not now, is to reset preferences. This is not the same as uninstalling and reinstalling, as the preference file is not affected with that operation.
Since it is intermittent problem this will probably not help, but worth a shot.
When it does not work is there some process that is running, like a anti-virus scan, or?
What about startup scripts in Bridge? Disable any you do not need.

10.5.3 Seems to have solved Photoshop CS3/Spaces problem

I've just backed up and installed the 10.5.3 update. The only remaining problem with PS CS3 and Leopard was using Spaces and finding out that the Palettes, Tool Bar and Options Bar would frequently not redraw, depending on how you used Spaces. Twenty minutes worth of testing and that issue seems to have been resolved. The update for my Mac Pro was 420mb and required one OKed and two automatic restarts. It's a bit of a process.
So far so good!

I too have this bug on my Mac Pro at work and my iMac at home. I use Spaces religiously so this bug is extremely annoying.
I went ahead and reported this bug to Adobe. I suggest that everyone else do the same.
I haven't been able to fix the blinking cursor without restarting Photoshop but here are some ways to avoid it:
1. Switch spaces using CTRL + Arrow Keys / Number of Space instead viewing all of the spaces in a grid.
2. If you are like me and prefer the grid you can avoid the blinking cursor by making sure the Type tool or Marquee tool is NOT selected in Photoshop before you switch Spaces. If you have another tool such as the Move tool selected when you switch Spaces you will not get the blinking cursor when you switch to the Type or Marquee tools after returning from another Space.
Let's hope Adobe gets this fixed ASAP.

Pages Palette Problem

Hi all.
I opened InDesign CS2 the other day and encountered this strange look to the pages palette. THough I've reset the workspace to default, changed my screen resolution, played with the Palette options, I can't get the palette to resize so I can see all the pages in the document. I usually have it set vertical. The pages icons are way off to the right at the edge of the box. I usually can't see the 2nd page in the spread.
Anyone have an idea what this is doing and how to fix it?

DON'T like Indesign CS3 Palettes! Bring back CS2's

I'd like to know if any other designers out there despise CS3's new palette style as much as I do?
I loved in CS2 that you could group them and pull them in and out from the side of the window from the left and right sides. I had a whole system set up in CS@ for fast efficient work flow and now, I've been completely slowed down by the new set up. I've been working with it for 3 weeks now and still haven't adapted.
My main dislikes:
1. Having them all strung together means that when you click one out you can't see two full palettes at the same time. I need to see the swatches and color palettes all the time together.
2. I used to doc my long pallets together on the left side of the screen under my tools, the links, glyphs, and pages. I could have them open and also palettes multiple ones on the right side of the screen as well.
If anyone knows of a plug-in that could simulate the palette set up of CS2 please let me know.

There are good technical reasons why you can't dock other panels to the tool panel. So there is need for compromise. You do understand about compromises, do you?

CS3 Tools Problem

Hi,
I have Photoshop CS3 and I am unable to use the tools (brushes, lasso tool, gradient, etc...).
I have tried restarting and the usual but whenever I select a tool CS3 seems to not do anything in response - the cursor remains as the white hand.
Everything else seems to be working apart from the tool palette.
What could be the problem here?

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)

Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

Can anyone help me...
I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).
My Java Script is as follows........

Hi Bharath Raja G,
If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).
