CS3: PNG File Type Problems

I can import PNG files without a problem, but when i drag one
onto the
stage, it is always a very small size and not the size it
should be. JPG
and GIF, etc don't do this. If I drag one onto the stage from
the library,
they are the size they should be, but not so with PNG files.
I can change
the size in the property inspector just fine and the image
will appear as
crisp and clear as it should. But why is this happening?
Thanks

The files being imported into Flash are files that I first
exported out of
Photoshop. If I export a jpeg file from photoshop and into
Flash, there is
no problem, but then I don't have any transparency.

  • CS1 and CS2 InDesign file type problems and Tiger

    Dual 2.7GHrz G5, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.5
    Previously, InDesign 3 (CS1 version) was installed on this Mac. I needed to install the full CS2 package. Everything installed just fine. The problem I am having is the file type associations. The Mac now sees CS1 InDesign files as Indesign CS2 files. I got info on a file I knew to have been created and saved in InDesign CS1. I changed the "open with:" to InDesign CS and it worked until I hit "Change all". It then reverts back to a CS2 file type. On other sites I found some different things to try like rebuilding or deleting the LaunchServices pref files, checking to see if their was a CFBundleIdentifier, etc. Anyway, what I seem to have found is that Tiger gets confused when the Type and Creator are the same in the info.plist files. Panther, however, does not seem to have this same problem. We have 10+ other G5's of similar hardware specs as the one listed above, running Panther 10.3.9, have CS1 and CS2 installed, and we are not having the same file type problems.
    As a test, I modified the CFBundleIdentifier to be different than the one found in the CS1 info.plist, and it let me "change all" the CS1 files to CS1. Of course, CS2 files could not be associated with CS2 now.
    Is there a fix for this? Or, is there a patch being worked on that will fix this problem? We really need to keep both versions of the software installed, and I don't want to have to rely on users making the decision about what version they are working in.
    Tom

    If Get Info shows both app versions (& it should) as "Open with:" choices, you can at least still set individual docs to open with the preferred version. Instead of having to open Get Info windows, you can do the same thing a bit more easily with the contextual menu that pops up when you right (or CMD) click & hold on a Finder document icon.
    Normally, the "Open with >" choice in this menu is a one time thing, but if you hold down the option key, it changes to "Always Open With >" & makes the new app choice permanent as it opens the doc, all in one step.

  • PS CS3 unknown file type (?)

    Hi
    I've been working in PS CS3 with some images and went to open them tonight and PS gives me an error 'unknown file types' these images were created in PS CS3 and are .jpg
    Any ideas?

    Do you have finder set to show file extensions?
    If you aren't careful when saving, and when you rename a file from untitled.psd (default for new files in PS) to (name).jpg the extension can drop if you switch the file type first and then change the name. It may appear to save it as a jpg, but if it dropped the extension, the Mac Kernel will tell PS that it is an unknown file type, or a generic document and you'll see the error. Without showing extensions in Finder, you're none the wiser when it happens.
    Finder>Preferences and Advanced. Check the box to show extensions. Then look at the files to see if the extension dropped when you saved them.

  • Corrupted Fireworks CS3 PNG file

    Is there any way I can fix my it?
    I did make a backup copy of it yesterday but I have several
    hours of work done on it today...
    Thanks for any info.

    Lisa,
    I don't know of anyway to recover your lost work this time.
    Be greatful
    you had a backup from yesterday.
    As a consolation, for the future, there is an extension that
    once
    installed allows you to specify a period of time (hours/
    minutes) to
    auto save the file for you.

  • BSD file type problem install

    Using my Cube's internal DVD I am trying to install Tiger 10.4 (full install disc) on to an external 80G HDD connected to the Cube by firewire.
    The disc check finished and the install starts, but instead of a successful install I get a report of an "error" and asked to restart.  Upon restart I first run Disc Utilities to verify the HDD and get --
    Invalid BSD file type
    Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    The Volume Cube-1a (HDD name) needs to be repaired.
    -- all these on a brand new, just partioned & checked, HDD
    What is happening here - Faulty install disc ? Faulty HDD ? Faulty computer ?

    I'm thinking jumper settings. Here is an article on upgrading a Cube hard drive:
    http://cubeowner.com/kbase_2/index.php?page=index_v2&id=132&c=5
    Note it says "cable select" is not appropriate for Cubes, and that most new ATA drives ship preset to cable select.
    That entire site is devoted to the Cube. Probably some good stuff there!

  • How do I get all my files to open up in Cs5 not Cs3? File plugin problem

    Keep getting error messages about plug-ins when trying to open up an InDesign file that wants to open up in Cs3 When I thought it should be opened up with Cs5.  It says that the worldready.rpln, dynamicdocuments.rpln, and conditonaltext.rpln are missing.  When I say just ignore then it gives me a really long list of things it is missing.  It says things like assignments.rpln, text.rpln, spread.rpln, master page.rpln, image.rpln, text attribbutes.rpn, generic page items.rpn.  I can't seem to change what opens the program either. I got the programs to open up in Cs5 if I went to open and then browse but then it couldn't recognize any of my fonts and put them to defaults.  I just had reinstalled everything to a new computer after my old computer crashed and I wondered if perhaps that had did something. Are there some type of setttings or plugs in I need to download or change?

    To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
    Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • Lightromm 2.4 + Photoshop CS3 + NAS file save problems

    I'm not sure if this has been asked before (I couldn't find it when I looked...) but I have the following problem.
    I have a folder of JPG files on a NAS drive ( I'm using a Mac OSX 10.5.7 )
    When I have Lightroom open I can't then edit and save the images. I have tried opening them from within Lightroom and get a file may be in use error when I try and save it. I have tried opening them via finder with CS3 and get the same error when I try and save them. If I then close lightroom it all works fine.
    If I open a raw file from within Lightroom (also on the NAS) and save it Lightroom creates a PSD file (as i have asked it to do) and saves it without a problem. If I then go back to re-edit the PSD file and save it I get the same file may be in use error and can't save my changes. Again, if I close Lightroom I can then edit and save the file without a problem.
    For some reason it looks as though lightroom locks all the files in the catalog that are stored on the NAS even when they are not being edited......
    Any help gratefully received  !!

    It'll be no surprise to you to learn that LR isn't designed to work on networks. AFAIK, the workaround is as you've found: Quit LR, and the .lock is removed. I suppose you could delete the .lock file and keep LR open, but I can't recommend that.

  • File type problem with email attachments

    Hi,
    I'm using SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 to send email with an attachment. This attachment is a random file uploaded by the user on an ITS web site and sent to my FM.
    It is all working fine as long as I tell SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 that the doc_type is 'PDF'. When I say it's 'JPG' I get an error "Message cannot be processed as it cannot be converted".
    It's not the actual file that is the problem, I can send jpg-images or any other file as long as I say t_packing_list-doc_type   =  'PDF'. However this leads to the attached file being called *.PDF instead of *.JPG, and the receiver has to rename it.
    The relevant code is
      t_packing_list-doc_type   =  ld_format.
      t_packing_list-obj_descr  =  ld_attdescription.
      t_packing_list-obj_name   =  ld_attfilename.
    where
    - ld_format is the file extension (e.g. 'jpg', 'pdf', ...)
    - ld_attdescription = ' ' (1 space)
    - ld_attfilename is the file name without extension (e.g. 'image001')
    My FM has to work with any file extension. It receives the file name and the file extension (jpg, pdf, doc, whatever) as an input parameter along with the file, and I just need to be able to email this file with the originale file name and extension no matter what that extension is. Any suggestions? Tia.

    hi Filip Camerman,
    i am giving you the sample code try this as such.
    it_packing_list-transf_bin = 'X'.
    it_packing_list-head_start = 1.
    it_packing_list-head_num = 1.
    it_packing_list-body_start = 1.
    it_packing_list-doc_type = 'PDF'.
    it_packing_list-body_num = tab_lines.
    it_packing_list-doc_size = tab_lines * 255.
    APPEND it_packing_list.

  • DNG/RAW file type problem

    I routinely download and convert my files to dng.
    The Metadata Browser correctly identifies these as Digital Negative (DNG) - at least for files downloaded by LR 1.0 and LR 1.2. However, files downloaded by LR 1.1 seem to be identified as Raw even though the file extension remains .dng.
    Can someone please tell me how change Raw back to DNG?

    First, save all metatdata to the DNG files (Ctrl+S).
    Second, remove the images from the Lr catalog. Do not delete from disk, just remove from the catalog.
    Third, import the DNG files. Set Develop Settings and Metadata to None in the import dialog.

  • File Type Problem

    I'm new to compressor.
    I sent a FCP file to compressor and it appeared as a job.
    I then chose a setting which was H264 from the QT drop down in settings.
    My Destination I chose as my desktop.
    The encoding seemed to take a long time.
    However my file appears as a .compressor file and can only be opened by compressor.
    What happened to my QT H264 file?
    What did I do wrong?
    Thanks for any help!
    Steve.

    I am not sure if you are running into a variation of this bug, but try changing extension to .mov and also use the technique described to set "Open With" properties.
    If that does not help, if you have some more details on the set-up, computer, OS, version of FCP etc. it may help

  • Converting swf file to Gif/Jpeg/Png file

    Hi,
    I want to save a flash file(swf) in the server as gif/jpeg/png file. Problem is that if on the browser i want to take a snapshot of flash file then how can I convert that SWF file to gif file before sending it to server.

    I used third party java library "Flagstone Software" the sample code for which is as follows:
    File aFile = new File("Flashfile.swf");
    byte[] bytes = new byte[(int)aFile.length()];
    System.out.println("**Number of bytes in before encoding= "+bytes.length);
    try {
    FileInputStream imageContents = new FileInputStream(aFile);
    imageContents.read(bytes);
    imageContents.close();
    FSMovieObject fsMov = new FSDefineJPEGImage(26,bytes);
    byte[] b = ((FSDefineJPEGImage)fsMov).getImage();
    ConstructingGif cGIF = new ConstructingGif(b);
    catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
         //throw new FileNotFoundException("MovieClip.swf");
    catch (IOException e) {
    //throw new IOException("MovieClip.swf");
    The ConstructingGif class simply writes byte array to disk with file extension as gif or jpeg.
    Now when I try to open the generated file through Photo Editor, I am being shown the error message as "Can't determine type".
    Is this the problem of encoding...If so then what can be the solution?

  • File Type Associations Do Not Stick System-Wide CS4

    When I set File Type Associations for PSD, Tiff, DNG and Jpeg fles in Bridge CS4 so that my files will open in PS CS3 (and insure that the same file associations apply in Bridge CS3), this works as it should from within CS4 and CS3, but it is impossible to introduce a system-wide change in Mac OS 10.5.5 via File-Info. It always reverts to CS4 for these file types, if I try to 'modify all'. The same thing happened when I upgraded from CS2 to CS3.

    If File Type Associations are set properly in the Bridge preferences, the default setting can be made to open files in PS CS3, with CS4 installed. This works from within CS3 and CS4. However, it sometimes happens that one is in the Finder, and the default remains PS CS4, however much one tries (via File-Get Info) to modify the default system-wide settings so that these files open in CS3. In any event, a bit invasive. Of course, if I could get comfortable with the Adjustment Layer Panels, all this would be unnecessary, but for the moment, there appear to be too many clicks, and it is going to take some time, so I don't want to burn bridges. Perhaps there is also some ambiguity in my mind as to what the pointing finger in the new Curves dialogue box, much like a tolling bell, is trying to tell me.
    But thanks, once again Anne, for your good-natured help.

  • PDF FILE TYPE ON HP M1319FMFP

    I have recently upgraded my computer fron 32bit to 64 bit. Operating sytem Windows 7 Home premium.
    Since the upgrade I can only find TIF, BMP,JPG,PNG file types to scan to and not PDF as previously. I have downloade the relevant driver after the upgrade.
    Can somebody please help?
    This question was solved.

    Hi @plasie ,
    I see by your post that you no longer have the option to save the scan as a PDF, since upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit.
    I would like to help.
    The drivers are a Hostbase Plug and Play drivers. There isn't a Full Feature Software driver with the extra scanning software for saving the scans to a PDF format. You would have to use a Third Party Software.
    You can download a scan to PDF software, by doing a search over the internet.
    Have a nice day!
