CS3 premiere import ppj. project problem

Hi,
I gotta problem with CS3 premiere importing a project file.
I'm grabbing Premiere project file ppj. from Premiere 6.5 on
PC and transferring it to CS3 on Mac. Problem is when I try
to do this. I can't, it has an error message saying "this project
was saved in a version prior to adobe premiere pro cs3 and
can not be opened on a mac." Is there anyway to fix this
problem?
Thank You
Paul

Yep...
Open it in 1.5 and save it
...then open it in 2.0 and save it...
then open it in CS3
then you only have to deal with opening it cross platform.

  • Transitions don't work after importing a project from Premiere to AE

I've imported a project from Premiere CS3 to AE CS3 and all my transition (fade + wipes) are now solids and they don't work on timeline or on exports, but they still show in my sequence.
How can I make AE use those transition again so I don't have to go through all project and keyframe transitions.
Notice that I use Cineform and that those transition are Cineform's one; hope that doesn't cause the problem since AE uses CF too.
Thnak you for your time and interest in my problem.

Exactly the problem. AE is only to able to translate a few transitions, which include the normal cross-disolve, linear wipe, dip-to-color and a few others, but since those routines are hard-coded in the Premiere Pro Importer, they have no way f doing the same for third-party products. So more or less you will have to rebuild your stuff, either by using the proper transitions in PPro or in AE.

  • Problem with Premiere Pro CS5 project files bloating

Has anyone had the same problem that we're experiencing? - we have Production Premium CS5 installed on a machine with Win 7 Pro x64. We have three separate edits all of which are experiencing bloating of the .prproj project file. Often this bloating seems to occur when no importing of assets has occured, just changes in the edits. A project which started at 5mb has bloated to 1.5GB and we can no longer save it. Another project has bloated to 200mb and continues to grow in size. We have not brought in any weird assets, although we are using hi-def footage.
We upgrade from CS3 and never had this problem using Premiere CS3.
We can't fix the problem by 'remove unused footage' as this doesn't reduce the project size, although it does remove the unused footage.
We can't fix it by importing the project into a new clean project as the problem and huge file size just comes with
We can't fix it by using the project manager to collect up the project as it requires to save before collecting and the problem files can't be saved.
A couple of points to note - these projects were originally on Premiere CS3 and were upgraded to CS5. The footage is either Sony EX3 or Canon 5D - both HD.
The machine it's running on has 8gb of RAM.
Currently the projects I'm working on are gradually grinding to a hold with no way to make the files usable again.
Any suggestions are greatfully recieved as I'm at a loss. I've reported this to Adobe, and will report back if I get anything useful.
    thanks.

    TClark,
I'm shocked that you are having the same problem on a mac. This seems to suggest a problem that could be really widespread. You've also beaten my 1.5GB file bloat size.
What the hell is going on with Premiere Pro? I'm surprised to have heard nothing from Adobe either via my support request or on this forum, save for Jeremys useful work around, considering how serious an issue this is.
I've had to break all the projects I'm working on which have multiple timelines in each project into a new seperate project per timeline in order to reduce the file bloat problem and reduce the risk of me loosing all my work in one go on a bloated file.
Adobe - we could do with some help here. It's frustrating to have spent so much money on licences for this software only to have virtually non-existant help when a serious flaw in the software manifests itself.

Yeah...it's really a bummer that no one is acknowledging it.  It's pretty serious!
I hope Dennis jumps in soon!

  • Error importing old project into Premiere Elements 11

Trying to import old project backup - that I made a couple of years ago.  When importing the Project file, I get the error
"The selected file cannot be linked because it's type (video) does not match the original files type (audio and video)."
I try and select the file, but it then gives the error "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video).
If I skip the ones that give me the error, I get an incomplete edit - with lots of bits missing.
HELP!!!  I need to sort this asap......for a client.
    Thanks

Here is my plan, either a start to better or a dud. We are going to start small to get a foothold in this.
My major puzzlement is you telling me that you are replacing video with video and getting the message
The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video)
.The only time I have ever seen that message is when someone is trying to replace still with video or video with still.
At this moment, where are the source media that went into the original Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project? Let us say, all in Documents in a folder named Special - all have their original names. Given that you are 100% that they are the ones that went into this project...the type (video or still) and file name and file extension.
I am not sure if it matters for this test whether or not you are using Premiere Elements 11 or 9.0/9.0.1, I just want to find out what is going on with your source media.
    (a) Open the project using Skip All if you are hit with a bunch of "Where is....?" messages which I assume you will be.
    (b) Go to the Timeline, pick a file with the colorful Media Offline display, write down the file name from its title band.
Right click that file on the Timeline and select Find in Media.
From Organize Media, delete the Media Offline thumbnail that was pointed out to you clicking Reveal in Media.
Go back to the Timeline and this same file, right click it and this time select Reveal in Project. That should take you to Project. Delete the file there that Reveal in Project points you to. That will also delete is counterpart on the Timeline. All traces of that particular Media Offline file are now gone in the project.
In that project, go to Get Media/Files and Folders and browse to and select the original file (with the exact same file name and kind that you just deleted from the project) that you have saved back in that Special Folder in Documents.
Drag that file from Organize Media or Project to the Timeline in the space made available by your deletion of it as an Media Offline thumbnail.
Does that work to replace that particular file. Is it the file that you had there originally? Keep in mind that we are identifying this file by name in each step and need a match of file name from start to end.
If this works for one, then we can plan around this basic finding. And, if this works we may revert back to Replace Footage. But, let us see what happens here first.
What is your estimate of how many of these Media Offline displays are there to be dealt with? How many of the media are in place on that Timeline and are no problem?
    Looking forward to the results.
    Thanks.

  • PPro CS3 JPG import problems

Hi, CS3 PPro, importing JPGs often results in a blacked out file, but when re-opened in Corel PPT it is fine.  deleting it and re-importing results in same problem.  When placed in timeline, it remains black.  Have played with adding Color mask, but makes no difference.
This problem also occurs occasionally with JPGs that work fine initially, but at some point in the project they black out.  Some JPGs work fine.
All have same location on drive, none have been moved, or names changed.
    Help!!!

    Welcome to the forum.
What are the pixel x pixel dimensions of the JPEG's, and what is the Frame Size of your Sequence Preset?
If your JPEG's are overly large, this ARTICLE will provide some background and hints on how to batch process them in PS.
Now, there are some other considerations with JPEG's. They must be RGB. They cannot be Progressive (a Web feature to partially load images, until the full one downloads), and some programs do not create perfect JPEG headers. Adobe programs have issues, with improper JPEG headers, but other programs do not. The trick is to open a problem JPEG in one of those, like the free IrfanView, and just do a Save - the header will be correctly written.
    Good luck,

  • How to duplicate a sequence in Premiere Pro CS3 within the same project file ?

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when I import CS6 project files

I recently upgraded to CC, but every time I try to import my project file from Premiere Pro CS6 into Premiere Pro CC it crashes, or stops working if you like.
This is very irritating as I wanted to make use of the SpeedGrade workflow in the CC packaged between Premiere Pro CC.
My project file is no longer than 1 minute, however is does contain After Effects CS6 compositions, could this possible cause the crash? I have tried to import without these but it still stops working for some reasons.
Also I have no idea where to find the error log for crashes on Adobe software.

I have experienced similar crashes and timeline playback failure when importing a CS6 project into CC or CC 2014. I had to rebuild two projects by hand before I realized it was a bug in CC converting the CS6 project files to CC project files. I don't think this has been addressed yet, but I have had better luck starting projects from scratch in CC, not cross-converting a CS6 project. Although I'm still experiencing issues with multicam projects in CC 2014.
Curious to hear others chime in on this.

  • Export/Import Project problems

I have two machines: a PowerMac (G5) and a MacBook Pro (Intel Dual Core). Both 2GB RAM, running OS X v10.5.6 and Aperture 2.1.2. (More tech spec info available if anyone thinks it relevant).
I have built up a project on the MacBook Pro, creating albums, creating stacks and making picks within the stacks, making adjustments to each of the picks and then creating a book.
I now want the project on the PowerMac G5, which is my master machine and contains all my other projects.
On the MacBook Pro I exported the project and then copied the resulting .approject file to the PowerMac. I then imported the project into Aperture from there. On a cursory scan, everything seems fine and in the Projects Inspector it shows 1376 images against the project on both machines. However, if I look more closely, I've lost all my picks. I.e. I need to go through every stack again and reselect my picks (very boring).
It gets worse when I look at the Book within the project - it's lost the positionings (i.e. I double clicked on the image and moved it around slightly to get the best crop for the selected box shape). And then I did a Close All Stacks and it deleted every picture from the book so all 60 pages were empty again and the images were all back down in the film strip!
At this point, my immediate thought was the .approject file got corrupted during the copy, but I've done a recursive diff (diff -qr fileA fileB) between the file on the MacBook Pro and the file on the PowerMac and it reported no differences at all.
Has anybody else had similar problems? Is the project import/export known to be flakey? Better yet, anybody know of any workarounds?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
    Darren

OK - I've tried eliminating some of the variables and it turns out the two-machines-issue is a bit of a red herring and this is a straightforward Export/Import bug in Aperture.
On a single machine (2.16GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.6 and Aperture 2.1.2 (build 3G13)) I have a project with many images. I create versions of these images and apply adjustments (Sharpness, Monochrome Mixer, Exposure, Enhance, etc.). I then make the adjusted version the Pick and I've created a 62 page book from these Picks.
Now I export the project (i.e. in the Project Inspector I right-click the project and choose Export > Project). I export the project to a file on the desktop and rename the existing project in Aperture. I now import the saved .approject file and I find that all my (long and carefully chosen) Picks are no longer Picks. (I've tried this a few times and ruled out the possibility of a corrupt export file).
As a result, when I select the Book I get the "Non-Pick Images" dialog with the dreaded "One or more placed items are no longer the pick of a stack." message.
I have two options at this point: "Use Current Pick" ruins the book - I have to go through and work out all the picks again (and also re-pan all the images within the Photo Boxes as this data has also been lost).
Or I can choose "Create new Version", which appears to preserve my book's original look (I haven't looked in too much detail yet), but my project now contains a couple of hundred more images than it used to (or at least extra versions which, whilst I know these are relatively 'cheap', are still unnecessary) and this still doesn't help with my other albums and light tables, which still have incorrect images shown as the Picks.
I'm finding this quite a worry - I originally hesitated to move my photo library into Aperture due to the thought of losing the metadata one day if I moved from Aperture to something else, but in the end I decided to trust that something as simple-to-test as Export/Import would get properly implemented - now I'm beginning to fear that it doesn't even within the same version of Aperture, never mind different versions of Aperture or (heaven forbid) different applications altogether

  • Problem importing a project

I created a project with 802 images on my MacBook Pro. I rated, keyworded and made adjustments to those images. When I returned home, I exported the project (just the project, not the referenced masters)and imported that project to my iMac. I also copied the masters onto the iMac. The import completes successfully, but I got a warning message that there was a database inconsistency. I restarted Aperture and did a consistency check. I no longer get the error message. However, Aperture only shows previews for 199 of the 802 images. When I show the package contents for Aperture, the project is there and all of thumbnails and previews are present just as they are on the MacBook Pro. I cannot figure out how to make Aperture show all of the images. Any ideas on how I should proceed and how to get all of the images into Aperture?

Thanks! Now the frustrating thing is that the client doesn't want to use what I created after all...bah humbug
It's not the RAM (which is either 8GB or 16....not sure on that computer). Got an e-mail from Boris Support that implied that this will happen all the time...that you have to export all projects before you use them in FCP or DVDSP or the Continuum filters won't work (loved how the support person suggested that I just use the filter in FCP...which defeats the purpose of creating something in Motion! But I digress...) Told me I had to buy a $500 program called Automatic Duck to get things to import properly...and that Boris filters won't work with the latest upgrade of FCP, btw.

  • Import project problem

    Hello everyone,
    - Someone left me a project in the proper shared directory, so that i could change anything that has to be changed, while the original author is away. The project is a DC.
    - when i import the project->Existing Project into Workspace, i'm losing all texts in buttons. If i try to enter something manually, the sistem doesn't let me. I can write whatever i want, but then all text disappears. Is this a bug, or the project has some property that i'm not aware of ?
       Thanks in advance.

  • Importing older projects

Never mind the hype, I have been unable to import some projects created on Premiere 6, CS4 crashes with an "unknown problem" where I have been able to import CS$4 crashes when I try and read the sequence information.
As for anything older such as premiere 5, CS4 insists that the files are corrupt.
Since ppj files are editable in a text editor, is there any way, any utility anything that could strip out what CS4 does not like in order to import these older projects?
Whilst there is much in CS4 I like, there is much I do not, and not everything is an improvement. Some filters and effects have been lost and the ability to import Mpegs with AC3 sound has disapeared completely.
Some of my original projects were saved on a system using a Matrox card, which had the oddity of importing DV as seperate AVI and Wav files, could that be part of the problem?
    Larry

Not to be unfriendly or dismissive, but you should post this directly in the Premiere forum, not here in the general suite forum. You'll get a lot more help over there.

  • CS3 Premiere error 0xc0000409 on boot-up no matter how many times I install

It wasn't easy finding this forum place but anyway I hope you can help me out
first off I use Windows XP and it is CS3 Premiere Pro I am talking about of the Master Suite, second off I am not English and because my error was displayed in Dutch I have tried to make a translation that was as accurate as I could.
Well how it started, Premiere was working fine one morning, I have been using it for about a year no errors nothing with any of my products however when I came back from school one day and decided to rip some audio for a school assignment it started crashing on boot up without giving me any indication to why it was doing this, the purple block came up and when it was done windows popped up with the message that the application had to be terminated and that was it..
So I tried to reinstall and afterwards my After Effects joined in on the fun with the Virtual Function Call and library errors, Premiere had no changes in it at all. So I tried again and then After Effects complained about not being able to unpack the effects and this went on for 5 hours afterwards with every reinstall I would either have the virtual memory plus or the unable to unpack fileformats and effects error..
I scanned my pc for viruses, zero were found, I tried system restore but that failed because there weren't any changes made to the system and so I called a repair man who took my computer away and took a look at it himself, he installed the master suite again and now After Effects works again however Premiere says this when it starts up
an exception unknown exception in software (0xc0000409) has occurred in the application on location 0x06ad5389
the beginning part made me laugh a little and I just tried to use a different setup and tried to trial version however that one as well results with the same error message as labelled above and I fear that every time I install it this will happen..
So could anyone care tell me wth is going on?

okay I'll work off the list:

    current driver version: 6.14.11.6921
    3. project settings, I didn't save the project but it was a Pal and I only imported an audio file and navigated through it nothing else:
    Codec: 0x0161 (WMA v2)
after that my premiere started crashing with the "this application had to be shut down error" and when reinstalling it wouldn't go away and then After Effects started erroring with the Virtual stuff followed by unable to unpack effects so I checked for virusses, tried System restore but both had no effect because there were no virusses and no changes were made to the system. So I send my pc to repairs and they were reinstalled it and told me there was nothing wrong with my system and so I tried to boot up Premiere again btu I got this error now, After Effects however works fine I must add
I tried reinstalling on a different drive but it doesn't help..

  • Serius project problems - Need help please

    Hi,
I'm using adobe premiere and after effects to my last film (this is not the first time). I'm using DV 1280*720 default sound settings (as I did before in other movies). I have an Imac C2D and plenty of hard disk space.
Yesterday when I import new takes and done some light fx's (blur 10% and tint) when I saved the premiere frozen for 30 minutes and then I had to force quit.
When I've tried to open that project again, it just don't open. I've tried everything. See if there was any corrupted file, checked for Hard drive problem (it doesn't have any) and I delete the previous rendered files (as I saw on some tutorial).
At least I could recover that project using autosaved and previous project backup (I take care always of saving backups).
But when I saved again (the new recovered and rendered project) it freezes on quit and there comes again. (it seems that premiere it is getting something from the old(damaged) project and just stack there !!!!!!
The project then it just don't open (I don't see any error message) I just see after 1 hour my premiere freezed and there is no way to see the timeline to fix anything.
I assume that I have to recover again and to all work over and over. I saw some forums talking about adobe "broken links" something related to video files source and corrupted files, but I still don't get it (since premiere doesn't tells me what is going wrong!!!!!!). They talk about deleting MACC file on windows but I'm on a mac. I didn't saw any tutorial about recovering.
whe this thing happens I see my timeline with video and audio. I can render but when I quit the program doesn't load the project again.
Please any help...... I'm working since a month ago on this movie and I need to deleiver that asap.
Is it better to export the video in parts and them join in a new project or there is any other thing that I can do without missing my month of work.
ohhh man I just want to scream

For any reason that I can't explain when I arrived home after day work, I've tried last time before looking my backups and Premiere loaded my project
Before save and quit I've take a look in all file (check the link and where is the source) I found 2 still frames (photos) were lost ( i mean from my hard drive).
My biggest clue now it is, when I deleted some video file before, when I enter the premiere project 1st thing that show it is a windows asking me to "point" where is that file.
But when happens with a photo, premiere doesn't say that this files are lost. It just stucks your project. Any tip to prevent this again?

  • Premiere Elements 8 Project Won't Open. Please Help.

    Hello,
I was working on a Premiere Elements 8 project for my video class last night (HDV, 1080i 30p) and the program stopped responding as I was importing a clip. I was prompted to wait for response or close the program. I closed the program and when I tried to re-open my project, the loading dialog box reaches 100% and then does nothing.  I let it sit for over 30 minutes and nothing changed.  When I clicked cancel after 30 minutes, I was prompted with the same "program is not responding" box.  Other projects open fine, but this one simply will not.  After reading through the forums, I disabled McAfee and updated Quicktime, but I am still having the same problem. I have 6 GB of free RAM and I am using footage shot on my DSLR. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated as the project is due this week.
    Thanks,
    Jake

OK, there is possibly a problem with one (or more) Assets.
This next step might be easy, or not, depending on how you have your Assets arranged on your computer.
The easiest is if one has the Assets, or Copies of them, in sub-folders below the Project's hierarchy. See this article for an example: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4028199#4028199
I would Move the Assets from their location, so that PrE cannot initially find them, and attempt to load their links. Then, launch PrE, and Open that Project (since the AutoSaves do not work better, just go with the original Project here). You should get the dialog, "Where is file ____ ?" See this article for more details and tips: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4598705#4598705.
If one has many types of Assets, such as Still Images, AVI's, MOV's, etc., it would be easier if one Moved each Asset type to a new, and separate sub-folder, for this next step.
At "Where is file ____ ?" navigate to where you Moved that requested file. See if it loads. Per the above article, you will see that PrE will then survey that folder, the one that you just navigated to, and try to load each missing Asset IN that folder, and re-link to them. If all goes well, then you should get that same dialog messege for the next Asset type. Repeat. Do this until you get the hang on an Asset. At that point, DO NOT Save the Project. Instead, Save_As and increment the name. That is IMPORTANT.
Then, Move that faulting Asset elsewhere, and test Opening the Save_As Project. If all works fine, then you know that there is a problem with THAT Asset. You should study it carefully, to see what the problem is. If it plays fine elsewhere, and is not different, than other good Assets, then try Importing it again, into that Save_As Project.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Import copied project

    Hi,
I am moving a project from one computer to the other. I have Premiere Elements 11 on both computers. From the first one I did a Project Archive, and chose Copy. Can I import this project on the new computer in just one click?
    BR
    A

    A
Just did a run through where the project that I created in Premiere Elements 11 Windows 7 64 bit had numerous photos and one video in a project that I archived with Project Archiver Copy Option.
Copied Folder was transferred to USB 2.0 Flash Drive which subsequently inserted in a USB 3.0 port of the Windows 8 64 bit computer. From the USB Flash Drive in Computer, I opened the Copied Folder, right clicked the project.prel, and Premiere Elements 11 opened without any glitches...source media in Project Assets and on the Timeline and no missing media messages or Media Offline displays.
Full disclosure....It was not as easy as all that since my problem was getting Premiere Elements 11 to open instead of 10. I have versions 10 and 11 on Windows 8 64 bit and that computer insisted on Opening With version 10 instead of 11. I finally got the .prel associated with version 11. As an aside, everything from the Copied Folder opened without problems in version 10 before I changed the Opened With to version 11.
Please review your steps to see if we can determine why we are not getting the same outcome. Again, even if you are asked for a file location and there are duplicated files in your computer, I do not see any problem in you pointing the program to the Copied Folder to get the file in place in the project. You should not have to do that, but it would get the job done if you were in a time crunch.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.
