CS3 prproj files in CS5 ?
While extensively searching I see contrary information which puzzles me and makes me doubt if I could buy CS5.
1.
Could CS3 .prproj files ( ex XP 32 bit ) be opened in CS5, on a 64 bit i7 950 machine, without problems after having installed a new fresh CS5 ( no upgrade from CS3 to CS5 ) ?
Do I loose CS5 features while processing CS3 files in CS5 ?
And, most important, are the CS3 files ( opened in CS5 ) also prone to the Mercury video card acceleration while rendering into mpeg2 ( no avchd ) and playback those mpeg2 files =
Sorry if these are too basic questions, but I need help anyway which I was unable to trace anywhere else.
Thanks for any help.

Yes.
without problems
Probably. Always backup your original project before proceeding.
after having installed a new fresh CS5 ( no upgrade from CS3 to CS5 ) ?
There is no such things as an "upgrade," per se. Each version is a standalone installation.
Do I loose CS5 features while processing CS3 files in CS5 ?
No. A CS3 project becomes a CS5 project on import/opening. You may lose some CS3 effects, but nothing in CS5 is unavailable.
And, most important, are the CS3 files ( opened in CS5 ) also prone to the Mercury video card acceleration while rendering into mpeg2 ( no avchd ) and playback those mpeg2 files =
Yes. Sort of. I think so. Mercury Playback Engine does not accelerate rendering, but instead accelerates certain effects. But I think the answer to your question (or the gist of it, anyway) is still "yes."

Can you transfer Adobe AE cs3 project files to cs5??
Help would be appreciated!

After Effects CS5 can open and import After Effects projects created by After Effects 6.0 and later. -
Issue editing CS3 files in CS5, hangs ID forever, 100% processor
When opening or modifying CS3 files in CS5, ID will hang forever.
Specifically, we have documents that have complex advertiser approval objects on the slug area, many are grouped and have script labels. We have multiple objects on the pasteboard, about 7 layers, some locked some not, master page items, and guides, etc etc. The ads themselves are pretty complex, can be from 15 to 90+ text and image frames. We have many fonts per ad (can be 10+) and the computers have about 250 families of fonts.
When I open a CS3 file in CS5, if I option-drag an object on the page, or if I copy the main page contents to a new template (converted from CS3), and try to move or manipulate some items, ID locks up and must be force quitted once the beach ball starts. I have tried to let it run its course for up to 5 mins. The lockup has happened more on text boxes than images, but I can clearly see ID hesitating when copying/moving objects. I am watching a processor monitor and can see 1 of my cores ramps up to 100% and stays there until I force quit.
The only solution I have come up with is to convert the document to INX in CS3. Then open the INX in CS5, and then most manipulation seems OK with no hesitation and no beach ball. Copying/pasting/dragging/putting into a new document is OK then.
Opening documents directly in CS5 almost universally (except for the simplest "hello world" document) will cause CS5 to die upon manipulation.
Setup: 4 core Mac Pro, 4gb ram, OS X 10.6.4, CS3 and CS5 install; also tested/reports of same problem on iMac 24 and iMac (2010) 27s, OSX 10.6x.
I'd love to be able to send crash reports to Adobe, but I can't actually get a real crash. I keep getting the Apple force-quit reporter. Any way to send that to Adobe?
ChrisI need to find out why this is happening or our upgrade is gonna hit the rocks. Anyone from Adobe here to read this? I'll be happy to send docs over. I can still have this hang CS5 with documents even when exported to INX.
Here's an Apple force-quit log:

Hi, Just a quick question. We have been using DW CS3 for quite some time and have a fairly basic website using it. We are thinking about going to CS5. Is the converting of the files in the website project folder (which is offline) going to be a problem? We would like to upgrad to make use of some of the new features and so we can be compatable with outside devlopers we want to have work on the site. Thanks!
Yes. I posted something on another thread that seems related so I
will try to elaborate. I have files that were created in Dreamweaver
CS3 and recently upgraded to CS5. I have both programs still on my
system, which is Mac OS 10.6.8. When I try to open the CS3 files in
CS5 I cannot do so because the site and html files is not there
visually. This is why I asked about the need to convert. I did find a
way to do something which is hinky but, I will share it since it is
so simple and seems to solve the other problem as well.
I opened the site file in CS3. opened the site management and
exported the site to a new folder. Now the site is visible and I can
open all the files inside CS5. It does create an extra site file, so
I just deleted that one and am left with a usable site in CS5.
I plan to copy off the sites to a new folder and then proceed rather
than overwriting the old ones, just in case.
I hope this helps someone else.

CS3 .ste files won't import into CS5
I recently upgraded from CS3 <on XP> to CS5 <on Mac Snow Leopard.> I expected a learning curve, but I also expect that software works as specified.
My CS3 site definition files won't import. I followed the instructions in DW help to the letter:
Manage Sites---> Import--->browsed to .ste files, selected Choose, and nothing happens. The sites don't show up in the list in the Manage Sites dialog box. ARE THERE MISSING INSTRUCTIONS? IS THERE A PLUG-IN MISSING?
After I've tried to import them, the .ste files are then 'greyed out' from the list of files. It doesn't matter what source the .ste files come from: jumpdrive, email, etc.
Note: This is a new, fresh & clean Snow Leopard install, and my files were transfered at the Apple Store. The CS5 install was just last week as well.
I have client sites to update. Please help!Yes, I did export the .ste files from XP/CS3. I saved them to a jumpdrive, and also emailed them to my Macbook. I know some people don't read or follow instructions before they ask for help, but that's not the case.
This seems to be a CS5 issue in Mac Snow Leopard. Important note; I was able to import the .ste files to an XP machine running a demo version of CS5. I've moved site files before with CS, CS2, and CS3, on XP. Never had an issue with those flavors or that OS.
On my Mac, after I attempt to import the .ste files, they become 'greyed out'. All other file types (.html, etc.) also appear 'greyed out'. It seems like there's a missing step in the instructions?
Update: I right-clicked the .ste files in my Downloads file, and chose 'Open with Dreamweaver'. THEN they imported successfully, and prompted me to choose the root folders. (If nobody answers the front door, knock on the back door!)
Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I think the problem is behind me. Long live the right click! -
Problem working cs3 file to cs5
Hello
I am trying to open in cs5 a document that I created with CS3.
This weird thing happens to some pages.
I can see the images and the text but I cannot work on them.
Also It doesn't read the links of the images.
Any idea what can I do about it or why is this happening?By default in CS5 objects that are locked are not selectable. Did you lock the postions in the CS3 file?
The only reasons I can think of for an image not to show in the Links panel are if was pasted or there is some sort of corruption. Do the links show in CS3?
This last question brings up an important point about working with legacy files in new versions. It's a REALLY good idea to save with a new name from the newer version, just in case you find you need to go back. CS5 files are not backward compatible (this is nothing new -- no .indd file can be opened in a version earlier than the one in which it was last saved), though you can export .idml for opening in CS4 with some caveats.
Enough users report issues with legacy files in CS5 that I now recommend an Export to IDML as the first step, then open that, save as a new .indd and go to work. -
Hi
I cannot open my raw files in CS5. I have a canon 40d and I am on a computer that runs Windows XP. I have no problems with my CS3 wich also runs on my PC. Can any one help?Trying to use DNG is the wrong approach. Photoshop Camera Raw should be able to open your 40D raw files directly. Having to go through two conversions would be a huge monkey wrench in the works.
Some questions:
Do you have anything programmed for your Additional Plug-Ins Folder in Edit - Preferences - Plug-Ins?
Can you open a Canon .cr2 raw file in Photoshop CS5 by choosing File - Open As..., selecting Camera Raw (...) from the bottom, then choosing your file and pressing [Open]?
Is there anything special about your camera? Has the firmware been modified?

Why cant I save a cs4 file as cs5 in adobe flash cs5
When ever I try to save a cs4 file as CS5 the adobe flash cs5 will stop responding for no reasons
also, some times and only for some files when I save the cs4 file as uncompressed cs5 and then save that uncompressed cs5 to normal cs5 the conversion works and some times not.
ofcourse any of the cs5 files cannot be saved as cs3 or cs2 for no reasons..
p/s: microsoft office can be saved to any previous versions.. adobe should learn something from them..oops...posted this in the wrong thread.

Premiere Pro Not Accepting .PRPROJ File Extension
Hi,
Have just purchased the official Adobe tutorial book "Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Classroom in a Book" to learn the fundamentals of the programme and being a "newbie" have encountered numerous problems.
The most frustrating is when I go to open the lesson files with a .prproj file extension in PP it comes up error message "file format not supported"
This seems odd though as the the lesson file names appear in the project panel but are not openable files.
Given that this is an Adobe inhouse file extension being opened by Adobe software am really frustrated that it's this difficult.
Have aready defaulted the ,prproj file on my PC to open with PP Cs3 which I thought would cure it, but no go!! Any help would be most appreciated. The message appears after I click on "open project" and then click on the file within the "select file dialogue box".
But something is amiss here, after ejecting the dvd, I opened premiere and then open project (from the "lessons" folders on my h/drive now) and the file I was having problems with is not showing.
All the "Lesson" folders are there but some of the files that were showing when the dvd was present are not there! The one in particular that I was trying to work on was 4-2 which was in the lesson 04 folder.
What I will try and do is open the "lesson" folders on the dvd and transfer the files within seperately as opposed to transferring the unopened folder as before.
Thanks for your time so far ,will come back tomorrow. -
Transferring AE CS6 file to CS5.5?
Hi I have a file that opens only in CS6 and I need to open the same file in CS5.5, is it possible to save the file in CS6 as a format that will open in CS5.5? This is urgent as my cs6 trial will run out soon. The file was oroginally started in cs5.5 then opened and saved on a trial of cs6 which is still on going.
Please helpWith After Effects you can save your project in a text-based XML format or Save a Copy As CS5.5, again with the caveat that new functionality in CS6 won’t transfer down. Going the other way, there are some tricks to follow to help your older project import and work in the newer release.
If you want a more automated way to export for older AE releases going back to CS3, the third-party Open Sesame plug-in may be another option. -
Exporter plug-in doesn't run when open by clicking .prproj file
Hi everyone!
I am creating an exporter plug-in. It works fine when I open Premiere, open a project and choose to export using my plug-in. But when i open a project directly by double clicking the project file (like untitled.prproj), my plug-in always show up a "Error compiling movie" message.
I use log4cxx to help track the plug-in, but no log was created, so my guess is that the plug-in has not even been loaded.
Could anyone tell be the differences between starting Premiere -> open a project and open a project directly by double clicking its .prproj file. In both case, which file is loaded and which file is not?
I'm very appreciated if anyone would have the same problem and tell me how to fix this. I'm really stuck hereThe version is CS5.5.
And my steps are:
1. open the project by double clicking the .prproj file
2. select a file in the project
3. Choose File -> Export -> Media
4. Select my plug-in in the drop down list and choose Export
=> Error
But if take these step:
1. Open Premiere Pro
2. select a project
3. select a file in the project
4. Choose File -> Export -> Media
5. Select my plug-in in the drop down list and choose Export
the plug-in run just fine.
So I think that there are something different between opening a project directly and open Premiere and choose a project. Could you verify this for me? Thanks. -
.prproj file Error, Cannot Open
please download in:
http://rapidshare.com/files/333062084/part6.rar.html
Please help me to recover corrupted .PrPROJ files? All My .prproj files was corrupted at once since i try to Export the movie, but export movie always failed, It Says "Error Compiling Movie"
now, i never can open my project, it always Froze/Hang when loading on 90%, it show Message "Sorry, a serious error has that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and i ever try to change the source file folder for trick Adobe Premiere, but still not working too.
.... I dont have back up .prproj files, the autosave .prproj file also cannot open too
i also ever re install Adobe Premiere, but i still cannot open my Project.
Please help me. I have big project, 80 minutes video. I can get fired if i cannt finish this video
thanks,
BennyOpened fine for me here.
Try the following, one at a time:
- Start Premier while holding down "shift" (resets plugin cache)
- Create a new project and import the old project into it
- Try opening the project with all the media offline (by shifting it/renaming the folder it's in) and bringing each piece back online one at a time
- Move the three folders Premiere makes next to the project folder to somewhere different (so premiere can't "see" them)
Let us know if any of that worked.

From CS3 InDesign-InCopy to CS5 InDesign-InCopy
Hi all.
We are uppgrading a magazin to CS5 and when we open up CS3 documents in InDesign CS5 it´s no problem, but when we Check out InCopy assigemnts we get an error " this document needs to be converted to incopy document in order to edit it"
Any idea what this is ?
StaaleBecause the file format for InCopy files and Assignment file changed from CS3 to CS5.
When you open your CS3 docs in InDesign CS5, you should open the Assignments panel, make sure everything is checked in and up to date, and then delele it all-- use the trash can button at the bottom to delete linked content and assignments. Doing so doesn't delete any content in the layout, just the links to the external files in the old CS3 format. Delete the old INCX files (linked InCopy content) and INCA files (assignments) on the server to prevent confusion.
Personally, at this point I'd export the CS5 document to IDML, then open the IDML file back in CS5 and save it, checking pages to confirm they're all okay (they should be fine). That will prevent any CS3-era problems from munging things up in the CS5 format.
Finally, export your content back out to InCopy, with or without assignments.

(even tho its shown in folder in library as a file comp1... CAn anyone helop me? (can i actually work with those files like that or premiere CS3 and AAE 7.0 dont match??
thanx for help (i already solved it by exporting it into movie formats...
but that opening of propj file in premiere dbl clickin and draging - anything just didnt work - it didnt open, not stick to anywhere.. its just in library, but nothin else.. (dont know why.. dont matter tho..

Best workflow CS3 to CS4 to CS5 or CS5 to CS4 to CS5
I had been doing a monthly magazine in Mac CS3 and sending it for text edits to someone with Mac CS4. They would return it to me as an .inx doc and I would prepare it as PDF for the printer.
Now that I have CS5, Would I be better off doing it in CS5 then giving them .inx to do edits?
So what's best?:
CS3 to CS4 to CS5
CS5 to CS4 to CS5
CS3 to CS4 to CS3
TIAI had been doing a monthly magazine in Mac CS3 and sending it for text edits to someone with Mac CS4.
Text edits? Only text?
How about CS5 -> RTF -> CS5?
Just set up your text as one great big threaded, well-styled story, and export the RTF. Your editor edits text using TextEdit (how apropos), and returns the edited RTF file to you. You place it & clear overrides, and magically have an updated InDesign file requiring only minor tweaks. (We call this "poor man's InCopy" in our office.)
If I had to pick, I'd be dithering between unhappy options. Going backwards (CSn -> CSn-1) is a bad idea. Going forwards two versions at once (CSn -> CSn+2) is also a bad idea. Heck, in any workflow you want to be reliable, going forwards one version (CSn -> CSn+1) is dangerous and should be avoided. I would suppose that CS5 -> CS4 -> CS5 would be the least dangerous, if you made absolutely certain that no CS5-specific tools were being used. This requires some serious diligence, and even if you are 100% perfect in your avoidance of the new tools in CS5, text reflow will still happen occassionally. On top of that, I wouldn't advise relying on CS5 until the first bugpatch gets distributed by Adobe.
Basically, every option you have is fraught with possible dangers.
Edit: it's tough to tell someone to do something dangerous. CS3 -> 4 -> 3 is something I've done a great deal of, and it's worked out okay. Over more than a year, I've only had two projects blow up in my face because of backsaving in this workflow.
