CS3 - Publishing Mac Universal Binaries

I've noticed in CS3, when I publish to a Mac Flash Projector
the file size is enormous. I assume this is due to Flash publishing
a Universal Binary. Does anyone know of a way to publish to only
PPC or Intel Mac? The file sizes on the projectors are way too
large now. I've seen several files now when published via CS3 are
up to 300% the size of the same files published via Flash 8
Pro.

aren't close.
Exactly... and that's not even for a large Flash project.
I've got one that includes a little music, and even when really
really compressed to 48kbps, the projector CS3 spits out is over
13MB. Same file published using Flash 8 produces a projector
weighing in under 4MB.

There is something else going on. BTW, why do you care?
Projectors aren't really for distribution on anything that it will
matter much.
I regularly work on projects that need to be delivered via
downloadable .exe and Mac projector files in addition to offering
online versions. The downloads end up getting used and passed
around in a variety of ways. When they're kept relatively small
that's not a big deal, but I can't suddenly start dumping files
that 2-3 times as large as they should be. I can always just use
Flash 8 to publish PPC projectors alone, but that means I'm not
pushing out native Intel Mac versions, and that means I have to
retain compatibility with Flash 8 in all my work. It's a workable
solution, it's just not a good one.

I am trying to build DBXML to run on a Mac 10.5, in order to compile the PHP module I need to build all the included libraries as universal binaries: did anyone succeed in doing so?
I have tried in many ways, but although I set the compiler flags, I end up with compilation or linking errors.
    Thanks!

I'm a java developer. This is the worst update apple has released for Java so far. When I installed this update it broke a few things:
    1. Brushed metal UI for JFrames work differently.
    2. Font metrics are not correct.
I am sure that I had an issue with the font metrics in the past, which they fixed.. and its broken again. I am guessing its regression.
I'll just have a rant about Apple's work with java and Fonts here because it costs me so much time writing "hacks" for their bad code:
    1. The true type fonts read the postscript name field for the font name and not the font name field (in the binary data of the TTF files). That is, Font getName() and getFontName() returns the data from table 6 and not 4 which it should do! This is the worst thing I found so far with java compatibility.
    Visit: http://scripts.sil.org/cms/SCRIPTs/page.php?siteid=nrsi&itemid=IWS-Chapter08
Chapter 6 - Apple uses field 6 instead of 4 for getFontName() and getName() for Font. Such a bad bug I had to write my own TTF font reader.
    2. Where is the 32 bit version of java 6?
    3. I lodged a bug about AffineTransform and justified text being broken about 1 1/2 years ago, still hasn't been fixed.

  • Universal Binaries for FCE HD?

will FCE HD be phased out? Or will apple introduce universal binaries for FCE HD? Or has it already been ported?
If anyone knows for sure, please post revelant URLs (rather than opinions)

Well I finally had a real project to work on and rendering is awfully hindered in Rosetta, which I should have expected.
I have several sequences about 5 min in length with several transitions like cross fade and fade to black. I also applied a color correction filter. Rendering takes about 10-15 minutes which, if I remember my G5's performance correctly, is way slow.
Also of note, there are dropped frames during playback when it reaches cuts with transitions and filters applied and is unrendered (real time playback).
Other than that, I was able to finish the project like I normally would have, it just took longer.

  • Epson scanning very slow - Universal binaries not ready yet...

I just bought a iMac Dual Core to replace my G4 iMac 1.25Ghz. Both have 2gb of RAM. I am scanning my own art work to place on the web and to send by email.
It turns out that scanning with my Epson scanner is not a bit faster. I just replaced the scanner in January with the latest model.
After contacting Epson support, it turns out that no universal binary drivers are available and the current version is extremely slow...
I just want to say that I find this extremely disappointing, there are a so many Epson scanners out there, and than this....
And Epson can't / doesn't want to say when this will be fixed...
Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.
We are currently testing new drivers for the Intel Duo Core System Macs.
Once the testing is complete, new drivers will be posted on the applicable Epson Support web-sites. Due to the complexity of this process, we cannot promise an exact date for availability. Please check the Epson Support web-sites for any new driver postings at support.epson.com.

  • [Intel] Any list of Universal Binaries and apps running under Rosetta?

    Hi!
Sorry, I'm not sure about posting into the right group, but found no other place with similar threads...
I just try to figure out if all my apps will run under Rosetta or are available as Universal Binaries (and how much will the vendors charge for them). It's really a pain...
Do you folks know any web site or forum with a "Rosetta compatibility list" and an overview about available Universal Binaries?
I will not consider a change without e. g. a working backup solution (Retrospect), AppleWorks, EyeTV and a few other apps...

  • Cross upgrade Windows CS3 to Mac CS4.

    Hello,
I am new in this forum.
I want to upgrade my old Window CS3 to Mac CS4. Does anybody here had this kind of upgrade? If yes. How long did take you to get the upgrade from the customer service?

I have a good friend who wanted to crossgrade Adobe's applications from Windows to Mac. Here's a quote:
Our senior editor, Kathleen, has been trying to do a platform change/upgrade request on our CS3 Production Bundle since APRIL, and has been getting nothing but a runaround from the published customer service entities. Two case numbers, 8 phone calls, promised call backs from supervisors that never appear, lost faxes, the eternal circle of handoffs (you need to talk to sales/no, sales can't help you, please talk to customer service/wash, rinse, repeat) --- you name it, and not one helpful person in the mix. It's been two and one half months. Meantime, they have our shipping money and we have an outdated bundle for the incorrect platform for our current needs.
Honestly, I'm not inclined to bash a company's support without being given good reason, but this has to be one of the most frustrating experiences I've seen with any tech company, anytime. In my editing career I've never had to make a posting like this. Can anyone point us in a better direction, or if you have a contact behind the "hold-music curtain", forward them this email.
This was published on June 29th, 2009.
Here was the solution, which was posted July 9th, 2009:
Longtime list friend L. W. had the best suggestion though -- he forwarded my complaint to his friend Simon, a top executive in charge of video/film (dynamic) media applications at Adobe. I'm happy to say that the attitude towards customer service at this level is excellent, and within hours Simon initiated a review of our case which resulted in our getting the long-promised software yesterday -- and this case has started a dialogue within the company to avoid problems like this in the future. I think this proactive approach to accountability at the highest levels says good things about Adobe for the future. Thank you, Simon. The business world needs many more like you.
Apparently Simon was not able to make any real changes inside the Adobe Support bureaucracy...

  • Installing InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks

Installation of InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks
    This question is Not Answered.
    s c perks Oct 14, 2014 6:04 AM
    1. I have InDesign CS3, which I bought about 6 years ago, and installed on my MacBook Pro. I have now got a new Mac Pro running OS 10.9.5 Mavericks. When I bought the machine I asked Apple if I would be able to install my InDesign and they said there would be no problem. But it will not install. The intsllation fails every time near the end. It installs Bridge and one other components, both of which it calls shared components. But InDesign is not installed.
I went to the Adobe web site and looked up what to do. I got to a page that had my product on and it seemed to be telling make I must download an installer. When I clicked on this link, however I got a page with the following message:
    HTTP ERROR: 404 /support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
    RequestURI=/support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
I do not know what to do now.
    2. If I do download an installer (I did not need to do this when I first installed the programme on my lap top MacBook Pro 6 years ago, but just installed it from the disc), how do I get rid of the downloader afterwards, since I read somewhere, but cannot remember where, that I should get rid of the installer afterwards but that I should not put it in the trash bin?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
    Stephen Perks

Many thanks for your help. I will try this. After posting this question yesterday I contacted Adobe and was astonished to find that they do not sell InDesign and do not support it and that one can only upgrade to monthly or yearly rental of CreativeCloud. I'm afraid for me this is nonsense, and I consider it very bad practice on Adobe's part. I will have to go to QuarkExpress instead if I cannot install Indesign CS3, which I nearly did do 6 years ago, but after reading such good reviews of InDesign and got it. I wish now I'd got Quark! I appreciate your help.

  • Cut/Paste from Word to Illustrator CS3 for Mac suddenly not working

This issue regards Illustrator CS3 for Mac on a Mac Pro with 6 GB.
Exactly one week ago I created a number of Illustrator files by cutting charts from a Word 2008 document and pasting them into an Illustrator document.
In the past I have dragged the images (or clip art) or simply used Control-C or even Control-X, but by whatever method I opted for, getting the image from Word to Illustrator CS3 has not been a problem.
Yesterday I got a new chart and a request to replace an old image - one that I had created last week on Tuesday by the Drag/Drop or Cut/Paste method.   For reasons I can't begin to imagine the process simply won't work now.
I also find that if I simply select text in a Word Document, hit Ctrl-C and then try a Ctrl-V in Illustrator I don't get to see my text pasted in - ONLY if I already have a text block open and the cursor in place will I get to see the text copied over into Illustrator.  This is very strange and not at all how things have worked in the past - typically I would see the new Text Object just appear, and then I could move it to wherever I wanted.
I have opened up a number of old files that I know were created with copied text and also opened the associated Word files (earlier versions of Word) and again find that I can't copy text over, or even move images over - even though I clearly could do this before.  I have also tried entirely new files - also with no success.
I was at an Apple one-to-one session this morning and they were more than mystified by this.  I can Cut and Paste into Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I can't even cut and paste from Adobe Photoshop Elements into Illustrator CS3.   I can drag the Photoshop file (from the Finder window) into the Illustrator document and poof - get my image that way, but it's as an image only.  If the base image in question is a vector image or something else having a plurality of elements, I can't then select the elements in Illustrator to change their color, delete them, or otherwise play with them.
I have brought up a word document on another Mac system that also has Illustrator CS3 and find that it too can't drag/drop cut/paste between the two applications.   At Apple, we did confirm that such ability is operational in the new Illustrator CS4, but none of their store systems still have CS3 to provide yet a third system to test.
I have deleted my Illustrator CS3 preferences, tried flushing the p-ram, and of course run fix and repair permissions - no dice.
My Mac systems update daily and there is nothing in the main update log that shows anything for Adobe or Office (nor do I think there should be).  Adobe Update reports that everything is up to date, and I don't see a history file to know what might have changed in the last week.   Office also reports fully up to date and happy.
As I can cut and paste the images into an email for Mail and into Photoshop, I am fairly certain that it is NOT a Microsoft Office 2008 issue.  The fact that another Mac with Illustrator CS3 also can't cut and paste suggests that is is really not something personal to my main system.
It is almost as if this is some clandestine "update" intended to encourage me to buy Illustrator CS4.  Given that I bought Illustrator CS3 less than a year ago, I really am not eager to buy the new version.   The greeting on the Adobe Support page that CS3 is no longer the current version and therefore supported was most annoying.
I am really hoping that someone out there has an idea of what to try changing, removing and/or adjusting with respect to Adobe Illustrator CS3.

I tried the Select by Path option - can't believe I missed it - and found it made no difference.
I actually uninstalled and reinstalled the whole app.  When I tried to simply re-install (can't remember it's exact phrase) it got part way through and then demanded another disk - but I only have one DVD with the application - the extra DVD is for tutorials and it didn't accept that one either.  So I restarted that process and chose to completely uninstall.  Then reinstalled - hey with only my one disk - gee, just like the first time.   And then it seemed to work.
I was not aware of the save as PDF option - but yes I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac so that option is there - and it seems to work too.
There were of course a slue of updates, and I let them all proceed - but even with them all in place the system is fine and I can once again drag and drop / cut and paste things back and forth.   I just tried a text block and "The Quick Brown Fox" pasted in with a clipping mask about 10 times the size of the document, but other than that it was ok.
So I have things working again on my primary system.   Will try and figure out what's wrong with the other one - but a reinstall might be the easiest game there too.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and Mac OS 10.4.11 Incompatability

I have been using Dreamweaver CS3 under OS 10.4.10 for a few
months without significant issues... but after upgrading to 10.4.11
    there is a significant problem.
I am unable to access any of my remote servers to upload
files to the sites I have built.
I was able to reinstall Dreamweaver 8 and it works fine with
    all the same setups
I've read a technote on a noted problem with Dreamweaver CS3
and Mac OS 10.5 - but it also appears to happen on 10.4.11
You can read the 10.5 technote here:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402780

I have not experienced this problem. Try removing the DW CS3
preferences file in your Library and then let DW build a new one.
BTW, what error you are getting when you try to FTP?

  • It can't run the DVD of office for Mac University  2011 when the last 6 second, why?

    Anybody can help me?
I am a new user, and set the office of Mac university  2011 on my new Mac book pro, I already get the product.
When the DVD do the last 6 second, an unknown window appear, I can't read the words, I don't understand why?
Then the DVD stop to run, the software unsuccessful to set up.
How can I do?what's the problems of my Mac and the DVD?
Please help me to solve this problems, thanks! ^^

It's likely the same - although the download is for a 'trial' you can still use the activation code on the CD sleeve to authorize the software. That's what I did when I first 'purchased' MS Office - downloaded the trial version and then simply entered the activation code when my 'box' arrived - I've never had the CD in my computer at all.
Just download the Home/Student version, install it and open any one of the apps to authorize. You can always burn a copy of the downloaded disk image to a blank CD if you want to make certain that you've a good 'hard' copy.
    Give it a shot...

  • Premiere Pro CS3 for Mac quits when exporting

I'm using Premiere CS3 for Mac and I imported several mpeg footage I took with my Sony Cybershot camera. The videos are in 640x480, but when I opened a new project I choose 720x480 DV format. Then the videos were stretched to the DV size.
When I try to export my timeline, the render dialog shows 'compiling...' and nothing happens with the progress bar and Premiere is suddenly closed.
I took one of the videos and rendered it as Quicktime movie 720x480 in AFX, and then I created another timeline with this new video and the export worked fine.
I think the problem is the MPEG format that my CyberShot uses. Am I right?

    Yes.

MMHttp doesn't seem capable of HTTPS communication in
    Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac.
    When I do something like
    MMHttp.getText("https://americanexpress.com");
the resulting response has no data and a status code of 0.

(i.e. non-SSL) the response has data and a status code of

This works fine on a Windows version of Dreamweaver CS3. Does
    anyone have any suggestions?
I've only tried this on a trial version of DW CS3 for Mac.
I'm hoping to get a full version soon.

I managed to get a full copy of Dreamweaver CS3 for the Mac.
HTTPS doesn't work with MMHttp there either.
