CS3 reinstall issue

I uninstalled CS3 a few weeks ago when reformatting a disk since then I reinstalled it, unfortunately someone took it upon themselvces to clear out "duplicate entries" in the Windows/System 32 folder.
When I try to use Illustrator it tells me that the subsystem licensing has failed and to reinstall, however when I try to do so I get a message that I can only install one adobe product at a time. I am definitely not trying to install 2 products. I think this is related to some files not being cleared out or?

The "you can only install 1 product at a time" can be eliminated by killing msiexec.exe in your task manager. Basically your install never finished. That being so, use the CS3 Clean Script/ CS4 Clean Utility from the support pages, then start out with a clean slate and re-install everything. No way around that. The licensing system is just one hell of a touchy mess... Just make sure you have sufficient user permissions. Installs not finishing means that you don't have proper administrative privileges....

Has there been any news on when Apple is going to fix the CS3 file issues that have popped up?
This is disastrous for all pros out there. This just might be as bad as the great 10.2.8 debacle, if not worse.....

As you see this is not exclusive to 10.5.3. The issue is that Adobe doesn't program their file save routines properly. As for asking when Apple will fix something, no one on this board knows. The terms of use specifically forbid speculation. And people who know what Apple is doing in the future are under non-disclosure agreement. We only know what is currently possible.

Reinstall issues CS3 and Windows 8.1

I am trying to reinstall my CS3 Extended on Windows 8.1. My CD says the installer is corrupt. I downloaded the installer from the website and it says that the installer database is corrupt. Is here a fix?

I believe the reason is because pse 9 and pre 10 are already installed.
Some others with the same problem have mentioned that after unistalling both pse 9 and pre 10 and then cleaning out all the adobe files, then cs3 installs.
Then you can reinstall pse 9 and pre 10.
Before doing any of the above, make sure can get both pse 9 and pre 10 plus the serials from the manufacturer of your computer.

Adobe CS3 License and Reinstall Issue

After a while of using Adobe Design Suite CS3 I got an unexpected error 'Licensing for this product has stopped working'. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Suite, but installation for Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator keeps failing. Only Acrobat and Shared Components installs.
Any help would be appreciated.

Uninstall and try one more time. There is a bug in teh CS3 licensing system where it will only work after the 2nd reinstall. If that doesn't fix it, manually delete the caps.db (C:\Program Files\Common files\Adobe\caps) and run the drill again. It will complain that the caps.db is damaged the first time, so you need to run this twice as well...

CS3 mediacore issue. (Editing modes/plugins)

Hi, I've been having an unresolved issue the past couple days. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I looked up my problem on different boards but I haven't found one similar to mine.
So I own a macbook pro, running on a Mac OS X version 10.6.3, and I have Adobe After Effects CS3. So far, my main issue is with the "mediacore" plugins at the start-up. Sometimes it crashes and sometimes it says "failed to initialize mediacore." I tried checking this problem out by looking inside what's in the Mediacore folder. So I viewed my plug-ins folder and then went inside the Mediacore. In the folder, I found a subfolder called "Editing Modes" and it contains an "Adobe Editing Modes.xml" and under the subfolder, is a list of the next following:
- CompilerQuickTime.bundle
- ImporterAiff.bundle
- ImporterFastMPEG.bundle
- ImporterFlash.bundle
- ImporterMP3.bundle
- ImporterMPEG.bundle
- ImporterQT.bundle
- ImporterWave.bundle
- PlayerMac.bundle
I tried to delete only "Editing Modes" folder and leave the bundle files in place. Afterward, After FX started up properly without crashing. It just gave me an error saying "failed to initialize mediacore" and then the program worked. The only problem with this is, I wasn't able to import any movies or mp3's. They're all grayed out. I wasn't able to drag and drop videos or sounds either. They just didn't work.
So, I undeleted "Editing Modes" and I deleted the bundles. The same thing happened. THE ONLY difference is, when I leave Editing Modes and the bundle files in the folder together, the whole program crashes at start up. So the program works only with one or the other deleted.
Ugh, I don't know what the problem is exactly! I also have QuickTime Pro 7 installed and I have QuickTime X.
Does anyone have a solution??
Also I'm able to export PNG's (seems to be the only workable files) out as quicktime movies, but I can't import. Importing is my only problem.

Something is severely busted. I'm afraid you will have to reinstall the app and also have to reinstall Quicktime. Also of course do the usual and run a Repair permissions to fix any potential file access issues, trash the AE prefs and clean out the media cache manually. Location of folders here.

Ps CS3 reinstall problem

I recently updated my pc to Windows 7, from Vista. I had CS3 on my pc prior to the install. I have reinstalled my copy of CS3 and it appeared it uploaded ok but when it begins to open I get the spinning circle of death. Any suggestions about what I might be doing wrong?

Adobe CS3 Reinatall Issues

Hi,
I was having issues with CS3 so decided to reinstall it. At the time I didnt realise I needed to deactivate it so just uninstalled it from the control panel and tried to reinstall. Now I get faced with the attached.
I tried following the steps at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401574.html and also tried the Adobe CS5 remval tool but get the same outcome.
Does anybody have any idea what the issue may be?

Adobe CS3 Licensing Issue

I have Vista Business, Adobe CS3 with student licensing. It has worked great for three months. Now I'm back in school and I get an error that says "Licensing for this product has stopped working:". It is registered.
I've followed all of the fixes listed here and it still will not work. I have emailed support and they gave me the same fixes as here. Someone must know how to fix it, it's their software.
I tried to uninstall but all I get is the Install Wizard. I went through it once, inserted the disk and waited patiently. I have rebooted each and every time I've made changes. NOTHING WORKS!. I can't even unistall it, that is strange.
Does someone have another method of getting this going again. I have assignments due and it has really caused me a lot of stress.

CS3 Download issues

I have PS CS3 on my mac mini. It recently started saying that my liscense was not working and to try and uninstall and reinstall the program. It was purchased as a download from adobe, so it was simple to do, but i recieved no results. After uninstalling and reinstalling twice, it is still giving me the same message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The system is about 3 months old and has the following specs
Intel (R) Core (TM) I7 CPU
MB 920 @ 2.67GHZ
2x 500 gb hard drives (No problems with storage size)
Running Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pack 3
I use CS3 Premiere Pro and Encore
The assets are nothing out of the ordinary
Simple holiday type projects
AVI files and WAV files for background track music
Generally 4-5 timeline of AVI footage nothing too big
The projects have general two Menus with links back and forth
Also 3-4 slideshow projects created in Encore with transitions and Audio
around 100 slides over three timelines.
I am positive the issues have only developed after recent updates. At one
stage I had to save after every change to the project for fear of losing all
the changes.
The current project was only 1.83GB going onto a normal DVD to a single side
burn.
I put the Virus program in silent mode to ensure that I minimize potential
conflict in the background. I have thought about uninstalling the program
including updates and re installing Encore to see if this remove the
problem.

More CS3 install issues

HI, I have Win xp and I had downloaded CS3. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times and I have never had this problem before. I had an issue with CS3 and thought I would just uninstall and reinstall it again but after I uninstalled it just using add and remove programs I tried to reinstall and kept getting the message that it was already running and to let it finish installing before doing anything else. So I got mad and went in and uninstalled everything manually. Still the same message and now its showing up in add and remove and I cant remove it! I have gone into registry and tried to uninstall everything cs3 there but then every small thing I uninstalled showed up in add and remove programs with no option to uninstall it. So I put everything back in registry and photoshop is still showing up there even though I have removed everything.So I downloaded the Wincs3 clean script from Adobe. I followed all the instructions but I cant get that program to run and now I am PISSED OFF! I have never had this problem with Adobe before and I dont like it. After I did all that crap I tried reinstalling and keep getting that same stupid message. Can anyone help me reinstall photoshop? I dont know what else to do. I have to add that when I tried to run the WinCS3 cleaner it says its not installed and when I click on WINCS3 cleanupadditon it just pops up and closes immediately. I turned of the popup blocker and the firewall and still have the same problem.

Please run the CS3 Clean Script properly from a command prompt. Go to Start --> Run, type in cmd. Then use the cd DOS command to navigate to the folder where you stored the cleanup stuff (to make it simpler, I recommend you put it in a root level folder directly on the C: drive). So the sequence in the prompt would look something like that:
(initial prompt) C:\Documents and Settings\Merryjane
cd..
cd..
cd CS3Clean
CS3CleanupUtility
As for the rest - well, you created all the mess yourself. Going off on a rant and wrongly blaming Adobe doesn't change that. Probably you simply would have needed to restart the system after the uninstall to avoid all that. In any case, do just that and see, if after a restart eitehr the clean script or the installer run. When you do, make sure to be logged on with full admin privileges. It seems to me like you have other install/ uninstall processes from other programs pending that never finished and now get in the way of your Adobe install. Full administrative access would allow them to finish. If you see nothing going on, check your task manager and terminate all instances of
msiexec.exe that may be running, then attempt another install.

Serious CS3 Vista issues

Hello, I am in need of some help.
I have the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium software. I have had it for a few years. Just recently on my Vista laptop, I had the issue of a pop up message saying something regarding my license and it would shut down. I have had this problem before and fixed it so i looked around and found the link that describes what to do.

I went through every step and i cannot get it to work. When i try to download something such as the clean program, I get an error that says python23.dll cannot be found so it doesn't load up.
I thought that maybe if i system restored my computer back a few months when it worked it might work. It made it worse.
I now get a message when I start the programs saying i have a catastrophic error with the licensing or something.
I have previously uninstalled and reinstalled and i had no results. At this point i dont know what to do, what to try again or what needs to be done in general.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a missing or corrupt system DLL there is something you can do on Windows. It will require the original Windows disc.
Open the command prompt and type the following command:
sfc /scannow
That will scan your entire system and inventory all of your DLLs and then it will attempt to repair them first and if it cannot repair the file it will use your Windows disc to restore the DLL to its original state. This process could take an hour or more to complete and could require a reboot at the end.
At that point, try launching your CS3 software, de-activate the software and erase the serial number from your system (make sure you have the serial and your disk). Then run the uninstall and the CS3 Clean tool. At that point, re-install the software.
If you run into more DLL missing issues this would not be an Adobe issue and you might need to consider a complete repair of Vista.

CS3 reinstall problems on Windows 7 64-bit

I had cs3 installed on my desktop running windows 7 64-bit for months. Then I got a licensing error message, and reinstall message. I uninstalled everything Adobe, ran the cleanscript app. Tried reinstalling again, and Adobe Acrobat installs but all other components fail to install. Tried lots of things from other threads such as moving adobepdf.dll_64 to desktop, then renaming it. Nothing has worked. Would really appreciate some good advice. Thanks!

CS3 Performance Issues - Productivity Crippled - S.O.S.

I was having performance issues and repeated crashes with AE CS3 on Win XP, so I talked my boss into upgrading me to CS5 and Win 7. All was well until we hired a new guy to help me with my video work load. He has inherited my old software and there's no money for another upgrade, so we're going to have to figure this out.
He running CS3 Master Collection on a Dell PC running Windows XP (Intel Core II Duo 2.33Ghz, 3.25GB RAM). The graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro, which came stock with the machine. Anyway, my new coworker has been experiencing at least as much frustration as I was, with frequent crashes, a fickle RAM Preview and bad renders. His machine has more RAM and a faster processor than I had when I ran CS3, but his performance seems even worse Since CS3 won't handle AVCHD files, I've been converting our HD camera footage into 720p MPG 2 (Adobe Media Encoder) for projects he's assigned. I suppose that could have something to do with it, but I can't see why CS3 wouldn't run an MPG generated from CS5. Anyway, I asked him to write up a short list of the problems he's experiencing and he gave me this ...
- rendered movies are often corrupted with red frames that flash in spots
- when i try to render an MPEG2 at full res it will give me an error message that says:

- when i try to render a RAM preview, often it does not render the complete work area. it takes several attempts to preview the entire selection
- occasionally, when i bring in new media it gives a message saying 'media pending' and i will have to shut the program down and re-import the media
- it will often (1-3 times per hour) crash unexpectedly and give a message saying 'After Effects has crashed'
- when i try to render a RAM preview an error message pops up saying it needs at least 2 frames to render when i clearly have more than that selected
It's my hope that someone here will recognize a common thread between these various issues and be able to suggest a silver bullet that will fix it all. I realize that's not likely. Research to date has yielded glimpses of possible solutions involving cache and scratch discs, but there are few specifics and I'm not sure exactly what adjustments to make. I also have a spare Nvidia GForce 6800 graphics card form my own computer at home that I could donate to this office if it would help.
I'm about to pass these issues on to our Help Desk and let them deal with it, but I'd love to be able to at least point them in the right direction, since they mostly deal with standard office software and won't have much experience troubleshooting multimedia applications. I believe they also have the option to call Adobe for tech support over the phone, but I'd like them to have a clue if they do. Can anyone suggest what settings, drivers or hardware might be a good place to start to get my man's system running a little more smoothly? I'd really appreciate some insight before we start poking around blindly and I offer my thanks in advance for any forthcoming wisdom.

P.S. For what it's worth, my copy of CS5 is running like a champ on Windows 7 with the 64 bit OS. My machine has an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT for a card, which can't be much better than the "Pro" version in my coworkwers machine, right?

No legal issues, both my CS5 and his CS3 are bought and paid for. However, if After Effects CS3 is incapable of rendering a decent looking file compressed to a reasonable file size, then I'm not sure how valuable it is to us anyway. It seems unbelievable to me that one of the most popular industry standard video aps isn't designed to render anything more than draft quality files for client review. Even if he renders an uncompressed file from AE, CS3 didn't ship with Adobe Media Encoder as a separate ap, so what can he do with it without resorting to third party software? I don't get it, but I'm clearly no expert on the subject.
So, things being what they are, what file format would you suggest I convert the AVCHD file to in order for my CS3 burdened coworkwer to be able to work with them? We are a Windows shop, so I don't know if Dave's Quicktime/PNG suggestion will work for us or not. You've always given good advice to me in the past, so if you have an alternate suggestion I'm eager to try it out. Just go easy on me with the jargon because I'm primarily a print designer and my video skills at this point are (obviously) intermediate at best!

Reinstall Issue

I am having extremely sluggish problems with Photoshop Elements 8, yet everything's fine with Premiere Elements 8.
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my computer (Dell XPS), then I reinstalled the Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements programs using the disks that came with the computer. (I bought these two programs when I bought the computer, and these two programs came already-installed on the computer. It also included a disc for each for purposes of reinstall.)
When I open Photoshop Elements 8, the program opens, but even without doing anything, the computer pauses to "load" every few seconds, and for approx a 5 second duration (ie, the mouse icon changes to windows 7's loading icon, which for me is that blue circle that 'spins') When I try to perform actions, I have the same problem and actions take drastically long to execute or the actions just don't register.
I also uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop Elements, but the problem persisted.
As I mentioned, PREMIERE elements works just fine, as I spent a couple of hours editing video and had none of these slowdown issues.
I'm very frustrated and help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

If you did an Archive and Install, it left a previous system folder. Once you have run the new system long enough to know you have everything you need, you can delete that folder, to free up some disk space.

CS3 reinstall problem - asking for uninstalled CS4 beta

I have a PowerBook G4 with 1.5 Gb RAM running Mac OS 10.4.11. I have the CS3 Suite installed and last year downloaded a beta copy of Fireworks CS4. After using it a bit, I uninstalled Fireworks CS4 with the Adobe uninstaller.
I recently had a problem with Bridge and decided to uninstall and reinstall the software. I uninstalled Photoshop CS3 (in order to uninstall Bridge) and when I began to reinstall Photoshop, the installer ask me to insert the Fireworks CS4 disk! Since I don't have that disk, I hit cancel and the install terminated (I tried this multiple times and rebooted each time)
I then downloaded and ran Adobe's CS4 Cleanup app. It found NO CS4 apps to clean up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Neil and Buko for your input. Here's where things stand now:
1) I uninstalled FW CS4
2) I uninstalled CS3
3) I ran Cleanup Script
4) I repaired permissions using Disk First Aid
5) I reinstalled CS3
The problems with Bridge remained (sluggish, won't display icons properly, won't show a preview image, won't operate the folder list, etc.).
So I called Adobe support. Unfortunately, because I am having problems installing CS3 and NOT CS4, support is NOT FREE. The rep was helpful though -- she pointed me to document number 331594 (Diagnosing Bridge problems) and told me to start there. I followed EVERY step . . . disable start-up scripts, reverted to original preferences, cleaned up the cache, disabled the folder windows, and the problems remain.
Guess I'll have to pay . . .
Lesson learned: don't trial Adobe software. That's when my problems began.
